I hope you get some answers at your appointment. My right IT band has been grumpy since the San Diego marathon, that sloped freeway stretch was probably the least runner friendly section of a race course I have ever seen!

I had this a couple of summers ago, and ice, rest and strengthening my hips really helped. Apparently weak hips really have an effect on your knees. I've been good ever since.

I agree to see a doc first though to be sure that's what it really is.

I get knee pain as well. Only when running, no other activities. It has been a long standing issue. I work on strengthing my IT band and alternating sides of the road frequently. It has helped me but I know exactly what causes my pain. Hope this helps

Be careful! I've had arthroscopic procedures on both knees and it's taken a good year and more to work my way back to where I can start to run...

You might want to see a doctor to make sure that what you have truly is runner's knee and not something else. There are lots of moving parts in there! In the meantime, don't run, keep off of it as much as you can, and ice it several times a day for 15 minutes at a time.

Sorry to hear of your injury and I hope you recover soon!

My husband has that as well. His PT told him to stretch emphasizing the hamstrings and building strength there as well. Of course...doctor always has the best advice.
