I loved my Nike+ sensor/app for the treadmill but could never find an arm band that didn't irritate my skin. It wasn't a problem in the winter when I had pockets but come summer time I converted to the GPS watch and iPod shuffle.

It's a love/hate relationship with my CWX Stabilyx capris. They're hard to get on/off and up/down and a bit warm in the summer. BUT I could not do the distance comfortably without them. The difference is amazing.

Music is a must so my ipod shuffle. However, now I feel lost without my Garmin! It is so much easier than carrying a phone to use an app. The less I have to carry the better.

Definitely my Garmin, for me. I rarely run with music anymore, so I don't use an iPod very often now, but I love being able to track my distance and pace without thinking. But I also love Pastafarian's comment about a keypad so you don't have to carry keys. What a great idea! Thanks for the link.

SHOES are the most vital. I started running with what I thought were top notch running shoes...but the pains in my feet and knees caused me to go to a running store. Found out I had too much support and the wrong size. It was amazing what the right shoes did for my body and my run!!!!

Then my ipod and then my Garmin...I love to have music..it is almost a must...then tracking is important.

This will sound strange but I bought a keypad for my car so I could run without having to carry/hide my car keys during races/workouts. (Nice secondary benefit: No longer possible to lock myself out!) Best running gadget ever!

My Garmin GPS watch. I can tell how far and how fast I I've gone. Also it frees me up to taking any detour or random route I feel like taking, without thinking about it.

Just curious what everyone's favorite running gadget and/or gear is. Was there something you purchased that completely changed running for you?

My favorite gadget is my GPS watch. I love being able to glance down and know how many miles I've gone and at what pace. Close second is my iPod shuffle, because it's nearly unnoticeable compared to carrying my iPhone.

For gear, my first real pair of running shoes were the best purchase ever. I think they were what made running bearable, then comfortable when I first started. They've since been replaced (a couple times) and donated to charity.

So what about you?
