Doing a 10-mile race April 27th as a warm up to a half-marathon in October

Going for the half-marathon...if there is a road, run it. If there is a hill, run up it. If there is a finish line, cross it. Train...run...finish.

Half marathon this Saturday! ZOOMA Texas, the third time I've tackled this race. I like it because it is a medium-sized race but very challenging going through the rolling hills. I'm so excited!

Next Half is 10 May. This will be my sixth one. So plan this month is to continue to work my training plan and get my speed up for the mileage. Should be close to 200 miles for the month with a lot of intervals and tempo runs.

Praying not to blow up and get injured...

At the end of the month I'll start to taper.

It's April, the month of my long-awaited first half marathon. Absent injury, I'll complete my first half at the Flower City Challenge on April 27. Between now and then, I have the remainder of a training program to finish.

I ran a solid 10k this morning. The race was populated by some serious runners. I felt pretty discouraged to be in the lower quarter of finishers, until I realized that from my first race in May 2013 to today, I've shaved a ful 3 1/2 minutes off my pace. AMAZING. I'm super excited about that.

Ran 4 easy miles plus a 15K race today, as part of half marathon training. This is both the furthest I've run in a day and the longest race I've run. Made some rookie mistakes, but I think I learned something that will help me run a better half marathon on April 27.

I'm on track to do a Half Marathon next week. Coming back form an injury, I'm not expecting to do anything competitive--just going to go out and run within myself. It'll be a good long run training.

I have a half marathon planned for early March, and am exited and anxious at the same time.

I have been training all winter, running 2 -3 times a week 5-15 km each time.
I have a 18.5 km run planned for this Sunday, and have done 15 km and 16 km runs in the fall, so I think I am fully prepared.
But still, I really want to make it a good run, so that is putting on a bit of pressure. Perhaps I should take the 18.5 km as a trail and take it easy that time to make sure I am prepared for the 21 km.

It was hard for me to admit that I was in training, until I knew I could handle the training, especially in the winter months. I have brought my runs indoors, on a track or a treadmill. I am lucky to have a choice. At new years, I was in Tucson for two weeks training in beautiful weather. It is my inspiration to continue. I am logging 26 to 30 miles a week and climbing.

I started this month with a Half Marathon on 1/6 in which I hurt my foot. So now I haven't run since. I'm hoping to see how it feels on Saturday because I'm already signed up for another half on 2/23. It'll probably have to be more of a training run than a race.

There's actually good training weather here in California.

This month is so, well, January. I did a Half in West Virginia on 1/5 then a Full at Disney World on 1/12. I did very little running other than that. But not it's turned god-awful cold again.

Ugh!

Next month I have one race -- thr Hilton Head (SC) bridge half marathon. I am planning it as a car trip, one night in Hardeeville, then back to B;more after the race. I'll stay over somewhere like Wilson NC if I get too crampy on the way home.

I wish my son great running today. He is in Phoenix (warm weather!!) running the full Marathon. His goal is to run in all 50 states. He is my inspiration --

I just started training for a half in April. It's been 2 years since I've done any races. My training should be interesting. My husband who is deployed is my virtual training partner. We are following the same schedule. It helps keep me motivated and keeps us feeling connected.

I am scouting out my next race - not sure if it will be a half - it is so cold here in Chi-Town getting out to run has been brutal. My runs usually begin with good intentions and then I am powerwalking - not sure how I get there but it happens

By the end of the month I will run 9 miles without stopping. I have ran a 10K and ran 6 + miles on my own and have done fine. So I will add 3 more miles to my distance this month. should be in good shape for the 1/2 marathon I registered for in May. I would like to squeeze in a 10 mile race prior to the 1/2 in May.

Been training for 12 weeks and walked this distance once during but the unknown is scary

After running my first HM in May of this year and pushing through what I thought was just some calf cramping (and turned out to be Achilles tendonitis), I finally had to take a running break in June. Wow, the first steps after getting up in the morning were a quick trip to hell. Then to go down the stairs... OWWW!

4-5 months off and my doctor cleared me for activity again. I can ease into some running, and I will for sure... but my newest trial at fitness is going to be crossfit. My first class is this Saturday the 23rd of November. I'm excited to get started and hopeful that mixing up the routine (vs just the running and constant leg abuse) will help prevent overuse injuries moving forward.

I'm also excited because I have 2 other friends that have signed up too!

Made my way to single digit sizing one veggie at a time. :)

CK, my husband and I were just talking about climbing the Hancock! How ironic! It hurts just thinking about it. I doubt it will go beyond the talk stages;))

November 30th! Just around the corner. You will do great. What a feeling that will be when you cross the finish line. You should be in the taper now, my favorite part from other athletic events in my life. Do not cheat yourself. Do the taper! Good luck to you, but since you have trained well, luck will have nothing to do with it.

There is a 4 miler in the spring on the Purdue Calumet Campus that requires a run up the 4 story parking garage and back down. So I was intimidated, until I tried to do just that on Sunday when I was on campus for my daughter. Piece of cake, nothing like steps! So I will enter the spring romp and roll and take on the challenge.

I have not selected my HM yet for March. My fall back is the mini-marathon in Indy, May 3rd. A biggie race.

MB I just jumped in

found something that was more than 12 weeks away - signed up - then got online and found a plan

been using the plan to map out my training walks/runs etc

very good - I am so excited to do this half - I know I can and I know I will

even if I cross the finish line last - I WILL FINISH!!!!

And that is my goal

I am thinking of Hustle Up the Hancock for April but need a goal in between the finish of the half and the hustle.

I am just going to keep grabbing at stuff that I wanted to do but somehow was afraid to do

my first and I am so nervous already

been training since August - omg

I am trying for a 3.5 hour finish and I think I will do much better. I did 11 miles last weekend in 3 hours at a nice pace. So I know I can give it more based on that long walk. I did no running at all for the 11 miles - it was brisk and nice.

Hi everyone!

Running my Half in 2 weeks! I'm ready. I keep flipping back an forth between 2 emotions. " I must be crazy!" and "I am a powerful runner! I live healthier than most people I know!"

My goal is to finish under 3 hours. I've been training just about that. I'm not for sure certain. I am waiting for race day to make the final judgement.



Make today better than yesterday. Let go of the past and believe in your goals.

Courage is not forging ahead without fear. It is forging ahead in spite of the fear.

Wow. So not only did I finish my 1/2 today, but I did so well that I am kind of bummed I didn't do better ;o)

Ended up with my 2nd best time for a 1/2 - ever

Get to be in one of my favorites races of the year - the Zeitgeist Half in Boise.

Would like to beat my PR from last year, but am still recovering from a stress fracture, so we'll see.

At this point, it may just be good to finish ;o)

on the 20th is my first half marathon in seaside nj that runs into a state park . hope it is still on . they shut down the sandy hook race for tomorrow.

Hello Half Marathoners !

I've noticed everyone seems to be doing alot of bike riding, I haven't been riding my bike enough I can't seem to get comfortable after 1hr i want to stop. Something about summer that makes us more active.
I've been running more lately in addition to my weekly long runs (a must) , and I've been swimming more. I did 1 hour of weight training today. I guess I'm trying to kick myself in the butt to get in shape for Chicago (Oct 13)

Does anyone know which Spark friends are in Chicago or running it this year? it would be nice to meet-up at some point

Leaving tomorrow to run the Great Lakes Relay in Northern Michigan. A beautiful, challenging 3 day relay with 10 runners per team. I am still recovering from a hip injury sustained in late March. I was just diagnosed as having arthrisis in that hip.

It's already past but I had an 8K race on Mother's Day. I ended up receiving an age category metal! I was really happy, I wasn't expecting that at all.

In June I have a 10K and a half marathon planned. emoticon
