Hi, I'm new to this. I going to run the Urban Cow Half Marathon on October 7th in Sacramento. I have been running since last August and have completed a bunch of 5Ks and did my first 10k on Memorial Day.

Porgy, that was so great of you to help that young woman. You are right, a long run can psyche you out if doing it alone. I ran my first half yesterday, did it alone, and I was also strugging at about mile 8. Then again at mile 10, and luckily a young man also walked with me for a short distance and talked with me which helped me along. So, I was grateful for that and I finished with a time of 2 hours 42 minutes, giving me a pace of 12:26. I was pleased with my outcome. Kudos to your help and the time you had. Well I am a step closer ...

The event at Soldier Field (10-miler) was great fun ... but it was cold, wet, and windy. Go figure ... is was on Lake Michigan. LOL. I stood around in my corral for nearly an hour after the first runners took off. Was supposed to take off before my sister started her 5K Hut, Hut, Hike. Needless to say, I was a popsicle before we started.

I finished the course in 2 hours 24 minutes (was on the course for 3 hours 16 minutes), a 14.27 mile pace ... but, that included a pit stop and helping a younger woman who was having a hard time near the 8 mile marker. Long runs or walks can psyche you out, especially if you are doing them by yourself. She had a heart issue and was starting a panic attack. I did what the duck does best and talked through it while we continued to walk at her pace. She was going to give up. I told her that if she was needed medical attention, then we would both stop and get it for her ... I wouldn't leave her alone ... it seemed to ease her. We crossed the finish line together.

It was a good day. I chocked up almost 30,000 steps that day, but haven't been below 15,000 with exception of yesterday when I flew back.

The Disney Half is supposed to be a lot of fun. I didn't do it, but a friend of mine did.

I might be running the Diva's Half in Long Island in the fall. Haven't signed up yet, but I'm waiting a little to see how training starts out. I have a knee injury and recent foot surgery, so I don't want to push too hard too fast.

Hi everyone~ I'm new to this forum..... I'm a shorter distance runner - just ran the Fargo Marathon 5k and took 2nd in my age division (there were 8,339 finishers - runners and walkers) - but I also walked the half marathon.... working on getting my sister back into running or walking more, so we walked -- together.... she told me at mile 12 that she had had no intention of finishing..... 3 hours and 57 minutes (it is a PB because I've never done 13.1 before! LOL) - anyway now I'm hooked, and am looking for more half marathons (that I can run! - the Fargo Half will probably always be a walking Half because of my sister - and that's okay!!) - Also the day AFTER the race - my sister called and asked us (the two couples) to do the Fargo Mini Marathon Half Marathon in October with them!!!! emoticon I am so excited!!! Maybe, just maybe she'll get into run/walking!!

Hi Half-marathoners! :) I haven't checked in with this group for awhile, but I ran my second half last fall...PR by just over 10 minutes! Hoping to bring it down another 10 minutes this year :) My third Half will by the first weekend in November...just trying to find my groove right now before really diving into Half training. Will be checking back to see how everyone's training is going!

Has anyone else run the DW&D? It's Disney ... so it has to be fun ... and it is the international wine festival to boot.

I have never done a night run ... and think it will be a lot of fun running through Disney and Epcot!

The Wine and Dine looks great but I don't think I can fit a destination race in before the holidays. I'm sure the weather will be great for it as well. Maybe next year if there's good feedback. Enjoy the miles!

I am now signed up for two 1/2 marathons...

First will be the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Sept 2, 2012

Second will be the Disneyworld 1/2 Marathon January, 2012.

I ran my second half marathon on Sunday! It was great! I beat my time from last year by about 13 minutes. I hope that I can get so good at half marathons that I'm not so intimidated by the thought of a full marathon someday.

My husband and I ran a half today and we both beat our PB!!!! I am so over the moon happy right now!! Not only is it an amazing feeling in the world finishing a race but beating my record is such an accomplishment. I am so proud of my hubby who did a great run too! He finished at 1:55 and I came it at 1:57!!!!

I'm also a "slow" runner on my long distances, and truly not that fast on my short, fast ones! lol

Have my first HM this Saturday; signed up for the Disneyworld Marathon in January 2013, and will sign up for more after this race! My goal is just to finish and hopefully average 5mph....I would be happy with that!!

Denise - I now how you feel! I ran a 1/2 last Saturday and I have a 1/2 next Saturday. I want to run a marathon on July 24th but I'm not sure I have the confidence to be ready by then! I am a VERY slower runner. I usually average a 12 minute mile.

I run just for the HEALTH of it!

Did my first HM of 2012 a week ago last Sunday and have my second coming up this Sunday. I have another scheduled in May (Portland Rock'n'Roll) and then either my first full or another half in June (Seattle Rock'n'Roll). I'm currently registered for the full in that but may switch to the half depending on how training goes between now and then--just haven't been able to get in long enough runs to feel really confident about doing a full, especially as slow as I am.

Hi! I just joined this team. I'm going to be running my first 1/2 marathon, Hospital Hill Run, on June 2nd. It's in Kansas City and "is 37 years old and the second oldest continuous running half marathon in the country." They call it the 'Granddaddy' of Kansas City running. I've heard this race is brutal. I signed up late so I have only 6 weeks or so of training. I've just started my 2nd week. I already completed two 5k's (one last year and this year) so I decided to go bigger... emoticon Anyways, I need some runner friends so feel free to add me if you'd like! Thanks, See ya around!

I just signed up for the 20th Anniversary Disney World Half Marathon being held in January, 2013. I am running my first Half Marathon at Disneyland this September.

It's nice to have goals to keep my butt in gear!!

Started running with C25K in March of 2010 (before which I couldn't even run a 1/4 mile without feeling like I was going to pass out). Completed my first half, the Atlanta 13.1, on October 2, 2011 in 2:22 and my second half, the Georgia Half, on March 18, 2012 in 2:16. Both are very hill courses. Looking to better my time and run the Atlanta 13.1 again on October 7, 2012. Seriously contemplated trying a full in mid-November in Savannah.

I'm running the Garmin Oz marathon (Olathe, KS) with my daughter next weekend. I'm also signed up for KC Marathon. Figure I could use it as a goal ... If all else fails I just run the half instead. I'm also signed up for a Sprint Triathlon in August! Lots of training to do!

Just signed up for the Kansas City Marathon in October! Super duper pumped! Last time I did a half marathon was a few years ago, and I walked a fair amount of it. I want to run the whole thing this time! Hopefully being 60-70 lbs lighter and having 5-6 months to train will help.

There is a half marathon at Camp Croft, SC on Nov 10. It's ran on the horse trails. Proceeds go to the park. I grew up very close to there and went to vacation bible school there when I was a child.
I've never ran so much as a 5k.... but I think I'm giving myself plenty of. time to train.

I'm returning to the American River Parkway HM at the end of this month, but the big thing for me this year is my first full marathon at the end of Sept. It's a trail (Big Sur), so I'm nervous about that, but excited too. Trying to be more diligent about my hill workouts, which I do not love yet!

My first Half Marathon is in Oct. I was told to keep strengthing my ankle so this is good news for now!

Hello everyone,

I hope this is ok, but I have decided to set a new goal. I completed my first 1/2 Marathon in January of this year, and have done several races since. I have decided to do the Nike Women's Marathon in San Diego in October of this year. I am doing this event again with Team in Training & raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The reason I do this is because I have a good friend whose son passes from Leukemia 6 years ago at the young age of 8. I myself am also a cancer survivor. I'm the type that needs a lot of motivation to do things sometimes, and this is what motivated me to do the 1/2. Now I am going to do a FULL Marathon in october.

To do this though I need a lot of help. I need to raise almost $3000 for this truly worthy cause. I am asking for any and all help. If you can donate $50, $5 or even just $1, NO amount is to small and every $ helps.

but for me, it's like you running in NY -- closer, really. a 2.3 h train ride (and i'm a 15-min bus ride from the train station). but yes, it feels very exciting and beautiful. like running through all the Georgette Heyer novels of my adolescence, almost:-)
and amazing how much more motivated i was for ST this morning!
