Hi kids,

Coming off an amazing weekend. Yesterday was our foster daughter's bat mitzvah. It was one of those amazing events where everyone participated, bringing out the best in themselves and in those around them.... Now I really need to be focusing on my trip, but I can't quite bring myself to, ya know?? Ooof. Flying Tuesday, so I'd better come down to earth soon....

Glad you had a great trip, Honey! I'd be happy to go back to either London or Paris....

Sorry about the injury, Jenga!

Welcome back, mc.

OK, better go. Time to exercise....

Hi Q4 balance and 3 points..its been.a long time since I've been here. I recognize a few faces from the ediets, 7% and WIDRT groups. Much in my life has changed over the years as I'm sure it has for all of you. The support of the previously mentioned groups helped me when I needed it and I find myself missing the daily check-ins, reminders for self care, and genuine concern the members of these groups have for each other. I understand the premise of this group is less rigid than the 7% mentality, yet the accountability factor was so helpful in keeping me focused. I hope I can jump back in. I will share when I can. I will adapt the three points to what I need at this point in my life.
Glad to be back,
mc

Shorey...so when you read my post...have you even heard of this behavior? Yes, we all have seen the Klepto cat YOUTUBE piece. But this is...um...very unique.

OKAY...sorry this is chopped up - but constant interruptions and more to share over weekend...

I have a stove! Gas line installed today. Have the instruction manual stacked up by my side for review tonight. Last time I had gas? 1967? I remember liking it - Dan'l has wanted one for years...ya' know watching Emerill LaGasse, Michael Symon and other Chef's of merit. They all use gas. I've been using Crock Pot, microwave, RV gas stove (always fun to go outside to cook) mostly been buying prepared foods to heat up in Micro or Toaster/Oven - which is a MacDaddy Kitchen-Aid...but still - so this week...real tile floor, a kitchen island with a place to put towels, potholders, wine, bar stools to sit down for a snack...my world is coming together.

Slow Cooker. Haven't used in 3 years. Action Man doesn't care for crock pot cooking - says the food doesn't digest properly? Whatever! So just enjoy your Buffalo Wings and pizza, darling and keep up those life insurance premiums!

I've decided to cook for me and everyone else can take or leave - may have my Mother-in-law living with us soonly - figure she will eat the very tender results.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Begin with the end in mind."~Stephen Covey
So planning dinner either with the crock pot or something marinade for dinner has helped to stop the "winging it" or over-eating at lunch...too much snack in afternoon...then messy supper and wake-up at 2AM for Cheerios and anything not nailed down!
Fitness Efforts - been on back-burner (if I had one!!!) while handling MIL in re-hab, Biz day, Home/Office Re-model and constant action from carpenters, plumbers, Computer Fix-It Gurus, Vet appts, MIL appts...toss in car shopping since our 1995 Audi mechanic who has kept it on life support said...THE DANG THING ISN'T SAFE TO DRIVE!!! Get a new car!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Maybe I share this before...sorry - been blogging, etc. a bunch...ya' know a sanity protocol)

Cat-Tales - so SHOREY - we have 2 felines in da' house - belonged to Mamasan (MIL) but she never took to Vet, didn't even know that Samson was a male ...just called any cat that come to her house as "kitty" so needless to say trying to blend a male Maine Coon with a female Tortoise Shell. Much hissing and ruckus! The little female does the weirdest thing! I'm going to try to get a film of it. She goes around to where hand towels are on a rack and then drags them around the house, MEOWWWING - at first we thought in heat - then mourning her kittens? It is so pathetic and cute (even tho' she is...ahem...not pretty)

Welcome new members! I read some of your Biopages and can certainly relate! Posting is the fast lane to Goal!

Mar, Nicki, Tara, Shawn and lurkers...jump back in... Just say "HERE!" Or Clean Slate...something most of us have done at some point!

Honey...we flew 1st Class as well! I still have some of the freebies, blindfold for sleeping, convertible hairbrush/mirror, too! Lol.

Comparing London and Paris...gee...what a tough choice? Lol
We spent most of our time in England...Paris for only a day ...to be honest. I want to go back to Great Brit and see Scotland and Ireland. Danl and I love the PUB atmosphere and ease of getting around ...the history, the feeling of "heritage" my Fathers side came from Manchester, England...all those weekends with Grandparents and sharing of their world made me feel so connected to my past.

Jenga...I screwed up my rotator cuff lifting weights improperly. Went to a Sports Doc...he put me on Fish oil and Glucosomine at therapeutic levels. Took about 9 months to resolve...yes, I had to go to Wellness One for physical therapy, too. One guy, hurt so bad...tears would flow when he put arm against wall. You situation. May be worse than mine but hope you can resolve.

My Daisy (age 42...middle DD) reached around while in the parked car to handle a toddler's sippy cup in car seat and her shoulder is still messed up!!!

(Auto correct called it a SNIPPY cup?)

Hi you guys!

YAY Honey for a successful vacation! Sounds great all around. Love your report. Awesome.

HI to Shorey, and all you lurkers who have NOT been posting, hint hint hint!!! It's fall now, people - no excuses!! Get in here and start talking! ;-)

Me - found out that I have a tear in my rotator cuff which will most likely require surgery to fix. So now I have to go deal with finding someone good to consult, etc. I do want to get the problem solved, but who likes surgery? Blah. There's other stuff going on too, but this is the big one right now. Sigh.

Right now my weight is stable at about 181 which is good. I do want to lose about 20 more lbs. I don't expect more than another 5-10 to come off without a more focused and detailed effort from me in terms of diet and exercise. But right now, my doc doesn't want me attempting strenuous exercise. We are focusing on getting my adrenals and hormones in balance and don't want me to push things too far and upset the apple cart. Plus, of course, the shoulder issue limits my options. I think that I should try to get out on the bike more and just call that good enough for now. I'm in charge of my own food again too, now, so that's going to take time and effort - and I'm not too organized about it yet to tell you the truth. Just keeping things reeeally simple right now. And, hey, simple is GOOD!!

Better go. Come out and post.

Talk to you guys later!

Hi Everyone

I am back! We got into town on Saturday night and I had to hit the ground running on Monday. Not a lot of time to adjust, but overall it is working out nicely. :-)

So, did I tell you all that we flew first class for this trip? It was my first time doing that and DH basically made it a condition of the trip - he wouldn't go otherwise. I was a bit peeveed about that but it turns out he was totally right. Flying first class just got rid of all of the stressful things about flying that I hate, and with the lay flat bed and an over night flight, we were able to show up in London and hit the ground running. So it really meant that we didn't have any down time for getting over jet lag. Certainly a huge plus.

The trip was wonderful! It was exactly what I needed. I came home relaxed and refreshed and in a happy place. We walked, and walked, and walked and I think I broke DH. ;-) He wasn't up for the extensive amount of walking - he even calculated our longest day at about 14 miles. Still, he was mostly a trooper about it. I was worried about the gluten free thing, but it all worked out well. I ate a lot more meat than usual and found that I really feel better eating this way. I am also down 4 pounds in two weeks. :-) I keep telling DH - I don't need biggest loser, just a long trip to Europe to get to my goal weight.

I really enjoyed Paris, but DH liked London better. I think mostly it is because I had some early mornings by myself in Paris when it wasn't crowded that were truly lovely. My best morning was walking through the Tulieres garden when it was empty, and then going to L'Orangerie to see the Monet water lillies in a nearly empty museum. It was breathtaking, and relaxing, and just wonderfully beautiful. The paintings are meant to be immersive and are huge and surround you, and the museum was designed by Monet for optimal viewing - and he got it right! But over all the crowds in Paris were unbelievable, and the museums weren't very well designed to handle the onslaught. At the Musee D'Orsay there are all of these impressionist/modern master works (Van Gough, Gaugin, Degas, Cezanne, etc.) that are hung at mostly eyelevel for me, so with a crowd you can't see them unless you push your way to the front - and then they look not very impressive since they were painted to be viewed at a distance. The pointalist stuff was even worse (Seurat). If it was up to me, I would have hung them all about 2 feet higher. LOL

SHOREY - I can't even imagine how you did anything in Paris with a crowd of 50-60! How could you even fit on the trains in the metro? They were crowded no matter the time of day or night we were on them.

Overall DH didn't like Paris since it didn't handle the crowds very well, and London seemed to do a much better job of it. I think he also didn't like not understanding the language. That really didn't bother me much. I really enjoyed both place but found Paris to just be special. London was great but it was more like Manhattan or something and Paris seemed more foreign, which I really enjoyed. I love it when just getting a cup of coffee in the morning is an adventure. ;-)

A couple of great things have also come out of this trip. I have been telling DH for ages that the huge amount of soy milk he drinks is not so great for his system. After the trip and two weeks off of soy milk he realized he feels much better without it and has given it up. :-) We also came back home to some unruly dogs, so we have started doing long training walks together in the morning and a short walk at lunch time, in addition to our evening walks. This is a huge improvement over me just giving each dog a short work individually by myself. This is also great for all of us. So yeah for vacation!!

Haha Lisa! That's so interesting. I would love to read their research when it's all done! ;-)

MLO, thank you kindly for the links you posted! Some I have known about and others not. Believe it or not, the vast majority of audiobooks and most voiceover projects, really, are now recorded in home studios. People certainly do go into studio, depending on circumstances, but you'd be hard pressed to find a pro VO person who does not have home studio space. Not glamorous home studio space, mind you. But functional. :-) I am glad to know that you're keeping some of my colleagues in business with your listening habits! Recording audiobooks is an animal all its own and no joke in terms of stamina, planning, logistics, etc etc. I have done one and am making adjustments to my studio space before I will attempt another. I would rather record shorter form projects such as e-learning, corporate videos or phone systems, web explainers and commercial stuff right now, because it is logistically much easier for me to manage while the children are still small. But the flip side of that is not being too picky right now since I am still building my portfolio. So if I get reasonable book offers, I will probably do them.

Hey Shorey - you're FREEEEEEEE!!!!! Congratulations!! Ya know, you are right here in town and have a bit of free time now - I ought to buy you a drink! LOL

Time for kid potty training pit stop and then I sleep. Talk to you guys later.

Jenga, "I will say that I often find your descriptions of the style of social interactions there fascinating."

Heh. My husband is one of the contacts for the community where I live, for English speakers who might be moving to Israel. So the other day he got a letter from a group of students in Denmark who want to do a field study... of English speakers who have moved to Israel.... Back in the day when I thought I might be interested in anthropology, I never thought of being the group being studied...

If they're around in November, we figure we'll invite them to a Thanksgiving celebration.... BIL suggested we should all wear sombreros or something.

There are several more resources - not sure how old that link is? For sure the Audio stuff is growing so fast - big article in New York Times earlier this summer - they finally have done an analysis - people who listen to AudioBooks are better educated, above average financial success and more.

Any of you see this commercial? Jenga? PIZZA! I absolutely love it! However, as the video shows - it doesn't love me back!

Thin and crispy - big fan of California Pizza Kitchen frozen and I do have one on hand - but need to have someone in the kitchen with me so I won't eat the whole thing. LOL

Eating Fast - especially foods eaten "out of hand" - that is with no fork or spoon - I can over-eat so easily with those choices.

Shorey - I visit your blog - my DD - Work-out Nazi and her whole family did "The Color Run" last weekend - photo shows them covered with paint - everyone messy! Tough Mudder is another fav - I'm trying to wrap my mind around it! LOL

ENGLAND and visits across the Pond. LEE just got back - guess it was a 40th Anniversary Trip - Dan'l and I spent our 25th back in 2007 doing same thing.

ERROR CORRECTION - The article about Intermittent Fasting was in Reader's Digest - not Prevention as I first posted. Yes, I'm carrying around those Senior Citizen type magazines to read in waiting rooms and other boring times while coping with Hospitals, Re-Hab facilities, Clinics, etc - for Mamasan. They fit in purse along with my Ipad.

JENGA - re: voice gigs. If anyone listens to Audio editions of all types more than Dan'l and I - haven't met them nor seen posted on any forums we both visit? I assumed that most recording is done in New York studios? I have a site that features Book-Readers - as I get captivated by a Reader and often select by their voice RATHER than the Author of the book! Lots of us do! I can ask my brother, too - if he has any connections. Don't you need to contact some sort of Agent? Talent Agency? something like that?

Speaking of Senior Citizens - So I bounce on over to Elite Fitness - breeze in and Miss Heather is all smiley and wants to show me around even though she doesn't know what a recumbent bike is??? So I growl - been here before - saw about 60 people back in a big fitness room - doing some sort of chair excersizes - everyone gray hair and flabby. It is called Silver Sneakers. I'm thinking - NOOOO WAY do I want to be linked to that! I mention to Miss Heather - and she say - OH - you over 65 - and I'm DUH! - well - if I join the Silver Sneakers my Health Insurance will cover the whole cost of membership to the place!

So I'm signed up! But pul-ease - said in my best Joan Rivers voice - not gonna hang with the Geezers!

I share this info because some of you could have Aunts, Mothers or Grandmothers who may not be aware that this service is available to this age group. Guess it is part of preventative care.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Foster Cat Care R Us - Vets, Toy shopping for Laser Lights, new and bigger/jazzy litter boxes, scratching panel, grooming implements, various treats and trying to understand food preferences. But at least with the stress of re-hab while living with the sawdust, glue, blah, blah - have these little clowns to amuse us. Rescue Village is full and they running a 2 for 1 program - no room at the Inn for another month or so. Probably by then - all will be part of the family.
Hi you guys.
Kiss me Dirty, huh Shorey? I figure once you're in it you might as well go all the way! Lol. Sounds like you did. I'm glad you had fun. And a big WOO HOO on two more days of work for you! Bet you thought that day might never come, eh? I know I wondered! ;-)
I saw on FB that Honey was off on her trip so I guess we will have a report in a couple weeks. ;-)
MLO, hope you are able to get a fitness routine sorted out. Sometimes just an outsider perspective is all it takes to change your approach for the better. Ya know, being gluten free can be made easier by a lot of the products out on the market but still, so many of them are filled with sugar, which is something I try to minimize. Then add on being dairy free and the list of prepared foods that are compatible goes waaaayyyyy down. GF and vegan baked goods are, by and large, atrocious, with very few exceptions that I've found on those days when I do want something sweet. And SO many prepared foods have cheese or milk as ingredients. I tried a GF pizza made by the Daiya people (they make a soy-free vegan 'cheese' which is the most realistic I've tried texture-wise and not too bad-tasting either). The pizza actually tasted pretty good to me! It was light and crispy and hit the spot for comfort food. But I don't want to eat a ton of grain or starch, so I'm hoping I'll get over my pizza fixation soon. Probably the way to do that is just eat it as often as I want for now. Then it won't be such a shiny object for me.
Despite my self-warnings I managed to push myself too far recently and got way too tired. When you start feeling good, you want to go do all this stuff but sometimes that leads to me going beyond where I should stop. So I want to get more sleep tonight. DH is currently on a biz trip in northern Europe for another 9 days, so I have to be proactive for myself. Even though I have help with the kids it's still very tiring.
I am still working to land more voiceover gigs. If any of you know someone who hires folks to voice phone system prompts, corporate narrations, e-learning or web videos, or commercials, I would be grateful for an introduction. Let me know if you do!
Hi Lisa! Hi Shawn! Hi anyone else I am blanking out on greeting at the moment! :-)
Better go. Hope you guys have a great rest of the week.
Jenga
Good morning my peeps.
This weekend was a one of a kind. First off on Saturday my bestie and I did the Kiss Me Dirty Run at PIR. Our wave went out at 10:30am. We all had our purple shirts said Macís Dirty Dames, picture of a girl in a martini glass. Weather started off very well, the first obstacle was getting over tires and going through ropes that were zig zagged. I did it without falling on my face. YEAH!!! The next one was crawling through a culvert and into a mud pit that had a cargo net over the top of us, got nice a dirty there. Then we had logs to go over and under with culverts plus some pushups. I did some pushups; other girls did not do any at all. Then the next one was a dumpster like thing full of silt, mud, water and climbed through that and of course pulled our teammate down and in to be sure they got nice and dirty. Then we got to climb up a cargo net thing and slide down some poles like a fireman. That was so much fun. I was surprised how many people didnít do it at all. Then we had more mud pits to army crawl through. Then there was a 4 to 5 foot tall wall to climb over. I used the step ladder to get up and jumped over the other side. Then there was a huge freaking slide type of thing and I wasnít sure if I would be able to stop. Lol. I did. DH took video of it and got lots of pics of us.
That night we planned my in laws 50th Wedding Anniversary and they were surprised. Sunday morning got woken up with a horrible Migraine and slept for 13 hours. Today itís gone. Thank goodness. This week I donít have to be in until 8:00am this is my last week to work. They are actually doing a luncheon for me on Friday. I am SHOCKED!!!! They only do this for people who retire not quit. I kind of feel a teeny bit special. Lol.
Honey Ė Have a safe trip on your vacation.
Mlo Ė I know youíll find a way to figure a routine. Sounds like your house is coming together nicely. I absolutely hate moving. Lol
Shawn...flashbacks from Hell...taking teens to constant activities! Seems like I lived half my life at the Office Desk...other half in car!!
Intermittent fasting. Prevention Magazine feature that in their mag. One of my cyber pals was trying it, too...MIckie/Bamateacher tried it with some success.
NIcki, we have adopted Mamsan's cat which I call Samson. Didn't want his hair groomed/cut! He got his teeth cleaned yesterday so has hangover from being "put out"...then Danl felt bad for another stray his Mother fed so went over and picked it up today. It is in the Florida room tonight but will go to Rescue Village where hopefully can be adopted and not live her life as an inner city feral cat. She is so loving and must have been in a family as a kitten and then abandoned.
Jenga....I hear you. I know when my mental/physical state is "not right!" Went thru the struggle of menopause even tho having a complete hysterectomy! Night sweats, mental fuzzy, worst occur at TAX time...as always in Accounting ...the most frustrating. Also had trouble in large gatherings like Church, Playhouse Square for concerts, weddings...anywhere I had to behave with decorum?
House is still challenging...just got the kitchen arranged...now the tile guy is coming to install a new back-splash...so all will be moved again!
I do love my new appliances, French Door fridge, Bosch dishwasher...soundless! Also when I hit grocery,..didn't have to buy 2 of everything, Ivory Dish Soap, Gas-x (lol)
Catch in soonly.~mlo
Honey...so, you did get my note on one of the posts that I would be happy,happy to serve as your groupie for the trip, like handle the bags, monitor sites, read the map...only thing I can't do is drive on the left side of road.
Ya' know I forgot you are diabetic. Now answer me this...why is their 100 Gluten free birthday desserts (nod to Jenga) but zero for diabetic! Way more folks suffer from the latter. My step-son is special needs and diabetic so wanted to buy him a cake...because of the move and so much chaos (no kitchen sink, mixers and beaters still inboxes, blah, blah) could not bake as usual. Danl did find a sugar-free cheesecake on line $42! I must say as a lover of that delicacy it was the best I've ever had! Only took a few bites but it tops my efforts by a mile.
SHOREY...to be honest much as I complain about structure and routine...I'm frustrated about planning and ability to get a system going for Training. Lost my work out studio in this much smaller place. I talk to my son last night as he is a personal trainer as hobby. " Mom...take your measurements tomorrow...then stop by Elite Fitness and get an appointment....sometimes that is all it takes to get the momentum going." So I have on my Calendar for tomorrow...firm!
Lisa...that band is very good! Love the high energy...haven't been to a club in ages. One year seemed like something every month...Eric Clapton, Chris Isaak and more. Danl is great dancer...had the crowd on the feet at an RV Rally with "Low, Low, Low...if any know that song...pretty engaging, sexy.
Hi Everyone
Counting down to my vacay!
LISA - you are right about not needing to bring everything under the sun. That is why I am editing it all so well. I am going with a roller bag and a backpack (for my diabetic stuff, purse, and neck pillow). I am not bringing much in the way of clothes, which is why I am happy my new shirts dry over night after being washed out in the sink. :-) And I might do one more paring down before I leave, so I have lots of room in the roller bag for cool things from London and Paris.
SHOREY - this is a good transition for you. It is weird when your life has been so ruled by this job to be ending it. Woo hoo for you!!
What can I say, other than I am both excited and a bit anxious about my vacation. I can't wait to go and I hope I haven't forgotten about anything that will need to get handled when I am gone. I think it is all covered....
Yesterday I had a massage and then did pilates/strength stuff. I was a bit wimpy on the exercise but I still woke up this morning with sore abs. :-)
Hi all!!! Not a whole lot going on over here. Work is getting boring since I don't have much to do anymore and if there's anything new person is doing it all so she can get used to being the one woman show here. emoticon
I emoticon so good last night I have a kink in my neck. It's emoticon not really. I stretched this morning. Food and exercise has been down hill most of this month. Trying to get a routine down. I'm having difficulty with it right now. I think it's because of the work change happening. This week I'm coming in an hour late to give new person time to be on her own to see how she does then next week I'll be two hours later.
It's just a weird to me. It's at least breaking me in slowly to actually NOT be working.
emoticon to you all. Have a great day.
Hello to you all!!!!
I only have 10 more working days left. YIPPY!!!! Although Iíve got a lot of feelings and mental things going on. I know I need this time off on the other hand SCAREY for when I go to look for work. lol. I did prepare and save dollars to account for time off. Food is off and exercise completely off this month. Next week Iíll be coming into work later by an hour or two to see how she does on her own. She gets 5 calls in 30 minutes and I can see her body completely tense up. Thatís just an introduction. I really am not sure how sheíll honestly do on her own. There are so many different various things that can happen in tech field and I donít see her taking her own initiative to figure some things out. Which is how I learned because my boss spent more time telling me he didnít know this or that so I had to figure it out somehow some way. There were certain things she was doing with her body and how she was searching and she was just literally lost even though I have it in the Knowledge base. She got frustrated in trying to find it. I basically have every error message listed in the Subject line and thatís how she searches. I also explained to new person that sometimes you have to talk out of your butt and not put ANY blame on them because we get in trouble for that. Because we know the field does NOTHING wrong. (insert eye roll here) Not my deal after 9/27.
Shawn - Yeah for yard work!! And getting water down. Hope you had fun at the Fall Festival. It sounds like fun. Hope your ďsisters weekendĒ was a good one.
Lisa - The curtsey squats are fun but KILLER on the thighs in a good way. lol. Ooo I didnít think about a pop-quiz. lol. I love relaxing days. So how did the do on their Pop quiz? Thanks for paying attention. My pop quiz will be showing up an hour late next week then move it to two hours so the phones donít get all behind IF they get that busy. Weíve been in a lull for a while actually a LONG while.
Honey - Oh no! Thatís not good. Sounds like possible IT band. I believe this runs down the side of the knee. Hope you got your knee issue resolved. So excited for your trip. Itís right around the corner.
Nicki - Congrats on your new kitty. Iím so glad DD moveout was uneventful. Stressful. Good job on your weigh in. I know there are some things that I may have not written in because it doesnít happen often enough. lol. Iíve asked my boss and my co-workers to read everything Iíve written in to see if Iíve left anything out by chance. NONE of them have done this. I tried to get their imput. They chose to not read anything of it.
Jenga - I know it will help them out. I know both of my bosses are so far disconnected from what I actually did. Iím so glad that you are able to tackle whatís going with your body and see results. You have two run around toddlers to run after all day. Thatís work. I donít care what people say. lol.
MLO - You know I would definitely like to know how to teach resourcefulness. I know I donít know how to teach it. You are right that field you definitely have to have the ability to do that. That is some hair color scene. lol.
You all have a good day.
Honey, at the end of the day, you're not going to a desert island. :-) Make sure you have your meds and prescriptions--the rest you can buy there if you have to.
Shorey, I followed through on the pop-quiz. LOL! I sent targeted assignments to two team members to see if they could figure out how to do not-their-usual-tasks if they had to. They appreciated the reminder that there's a lot of information at their disposal... and we all started thinking about parts of our own workflows that we *haven't* documented. Aren't you glad someone's paying attention to you--even if it's someone who works on the other side of the globe?? LOL!!
Enjoy the weekend, Shawn!
Ann, waving....
MLO, 'I keep thinking "Well! It isn't a bomb shelter!"' Bwahahaha! So glad to be inspirational.... Things are feeling a bit calmer at the moment--though I keep expecting a 40th anniversary memorial of the yom kippur war... Ick.
Yeah, there's nothing like living in the headlines, ya know? This week, my mom and I are trading places. She lives in Longmont, Colorado. Not in the part of town where they've evacuated because of the flooding, but still.... I keep checking for updates. Can't imagine how frustrating it must be for emergency response teams. There's so much they can't even *do* because of the conditions... Ooof.
On a brighter note, had a fantastic time last night. One of my favorite bands was playing at a local pub, and I rounded up some girl friends to go out dancing. I didn't sit the entire time.... Well, except for the PABF moment. :-) and this was after running in the morning. Though my running habit is in place to enable my dance habit....
So I'll leave you with this. About 2 minutes in is the reason I also still pull out the belly dance videos on occasion...
Good Morning Everyone
SHAWN- enjoy the time off of work! It sounds like a fun weekend.
MLO - your hair dyeing story cracked me up! Of course the towel was lavender, not white which could be bleached or dark.
JENGA - I am so glad you are feeling better and have found something that works for you.
LISA - glad you enjoyed a quiet day, even with gas masks at the ready.
I feel like I am hitting the home stretch over here before my vacation. My dining room table is covered with all the things I think I want to bring with me, and I will do the final decision making next weekend. I know I won't bring it all, it is just there for deciding. It is like time is speeding up for me
Hi Everyone Ė
Been doing good with water and not too bad with food choices. Have to get rid of some of the junk in the house again.
Monday night I went to the store for more lettuce and other salad stuff. Then I went to watch our 8th grade girlís basketball team play a game because I needed to bring the league a check from the church athletic association. When I got home, I made a salad for dinner and two for Tuesday and todayís lunches.
Tuesday night I had to stop at the church rectory to sort some of the athletic associationís raffle tickets because I have to give my girlís parents their tickets. Then I went to my dadís to figure out the weekend because Iím going out of town and DD is staying there. I picked up dinner for me and DD and went home. Didnít do really anything after that.
Tonight I have to get a bunch of stuff organized. Iím off work Thursday, Friday and Monday. Thursday Iíll do all the yard work and house stuff. Thursday night I have an athletic association meeting and then we have to pack. Friday I take DD to school and then take all her stuff to my dadís house. My aunts are having their ďsisterís weekendĒ in Michigan so I am meeting them to hang out Friday and then Saturday and Sunday Iím at my best friendís house for Nascar weekend in Chicago. Iíll come home Monday and go back to work on Tuesday. Iíll try to pop in here tomorrow or Friday morning before I leave.
Hi Everyone Ė
Jenga Ė from what you wrote, it sounds like slowly, step by step, you are taking back control of your body and knocking out issues on at a time. Good for you for recognizing what is working and what is not.
Lisa Ė glad you had a relaxing day. Good luck with the 7th grader being in the house but very nice that your girls are starting to appreciate you and their home life.
MLO Ė good luck to your DD as she does some research regarding her thyroid. My biggest problem was getting the doctor to realize that just because someoneís blood work, namely mine, is in the ďnormalĒ range it doesnít mean that is normal for me. OMG such a hair coloring adventure you had too.
Friday right before I left work, my girlfriend called and was sick so she couldnít open the concession stand. So I called a few people that could cover but that meant I had to get there as soon as possible. So, I went home after work, picked up DD, dropped her off at her girlfriendís house, went to the store for concessions and got to the field around 7:15pm. Luckily, I didnít have to actually work in the stand, just hang out and be there to supervise. We had two Fall Ball softball games being played there, one at 6pm and one at 8pm and as I predicted we were there until about 10:30pm. I went home and put out the garbage and yard waste cans out on the street for the Saturday morning pick up. The nice thing about hanging out at the field was I drank a lot of water.
Saturday I got up, puttered around the house, brought DD her inhalor which she forgot and then I ran the church raffle from 4-6:30 pm. After that I met my friends at a local Fall Festival to listen to 2 bands. Sunday I got two loads of laundry done before going back to the fest for the Bon Jovi Tribute band. They ended at 8:30pm which closed the fest. DD and her friends were there so I drove everyone home.
Tonight I have to do some errands but hope to relax too.
Shawn
Today I color my hair. Now, understand I do not do permanent dye...not even at Aveda Salon ($100). So I bought some Clairol whichever is a rinse that supposed to last 6 weeks. My Aveda color used to last 9 or 10 weeks but with the expansion of grey hair it is reduced to about 6 weeks as well.
I'm thinking about composing a blog to share the experience with the action this morning! Lol. Now understand I bought the package 2 weeks ago. Read the instructions that day! Then again on Friday! Then this morning the fun began! No paint brush to be found, didn't need as it turned out.
Pretty lavender hand towel clipped to my neck. Forgot the color would stain? Next, the plastic disposable gloves? Could fit LeBron James hands! Then to find a spray bottle for water to make hair damp. Mix the stuff, apply best I can....head to desk to read Sunday paper for 10 minutes.
Realize I need to find a tan/brown big towel. Start the rinse using the goldfish bowl size sink in bathroom...then just give up on that and lean body into shower...apply formula Nbr3 and wait...then rinse out...jump whole body into shower ...white special hair towel absorb color somehow.
I open lower cabinet to get my hair dryer...HA! Flood zone under sink??? Guess the faucet is corrupted...calling plumber tomorrow...so much for saving $100!
Anyone start a new thread at 100 posts? September is one of those times of the year to me that feel very New Yearish? Maybe because of Rosh Hashanah? Maybe because the kids are back in school and summer break is ovah? Dunno
Seems like I have more to report - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the tracker on SparkPeople! YOWZA - all the Trader Joe's foods, all the brands that are at Whole Foods and health food stores - why did I stick with Fitday? Had to make everything a "Custom" food on that site when clearly it was mainstream. Started 10 days ago - 1600 Calories for a day, then 1550, then 1475, then 1300, then 1275 - now most days around 1225-1250 - amazing what control and taking the time to log in? I'm here everyday posting somewhere - who knew?
Also I keep seeing that Sparky is gonna update the site...scary but could be good.
I'm working towards a new photo - now, isn't that such a shallow goal? Hey! as Nighthawk used to say..."whatever it takes!"
nite nite~mlo
Lisa..I read your blog about stress. Very insightful...ever since reading that...as frustrations have been presented in my world...I keep thinking "Well! It isn't a bomb shelter!" I follow world news more than most women I know, Business Week rather than Oprah magazine, Fox cable broadcasts off/on during the day. I so want to visit Israel someday but it looking farther and farther away. Lots of action around the 'hood the other night with fireworks celebrating Rosh Hashanah. Fall has a lot of Jewish Holidays...many that most people do not even know. I have a link on "My Favorites" called My Jewish Learning.
Shawn...my youngest DD who is mumble,mumble age is beginning to suspects she is having thyroid issues. Was on phone with her lots this weekend. I cut out pages to scan to her from Encyclopedia of Nutritional Health about the issue. She is going to start the "self-test" tomorrow with taking her temp in the AM. Her weight gain, bloating and a number of other symptoms are scaring her.
Nicki...well, interventions can be very helpful...let me say this to you...be patient and as supportive without being an enabler. My Son turned his life around in past 5 years. Now in College on a grant, bought a home...good relationship with a partner who is stable and working on her PHD...here is the facts as I see them...as Mothers we just can't give our kids all of what they need BUT after age 12...it is room and board and minimal influence. Thankfully Son was able to find Mentors to guide him along. We want to be in control but have to hope the foundation of our love gives them the skills to interact with others that will continue to guide them.
Shorey,,,training ...ack! Gag with forklift. How do you teach resourcefulness? That is what I want to know. So much of industry is dependent on that's skill.
Yeah, Shorey, I actually do a lot of internal documentation--but it doesn't really seem to matter. They still come and ask me... I think I'm going to give a pop quiz tomorrow (working day for us).
Heh. Jenga, finally I've found something I have in common with the Łber-libertarian survivalists. Two weeks ago there was something of a frenzy because some of the distribution points (of which there were NOT ENOUGH, even if we were all supposed to have taken care of this ages ago) ran out. There are a lot of positives to living here--though every once in a while I'm like, really? I live in a place where I hear a plane and check the news? (and find that stuff is happening in the Egyptian Sinai, which is the other side of the country. At least 6 hours away....)
Really glad some of your issues seem to be more or less under control. I'm getting hit by the hormonal tsunami these days. you know, where instead of monthly, it's more like oh, is it Monday? Must be TTOM. Ugh. Actually it's still not quite at that point. You'll know I've hit it when I start referring to TTOW instead....
Oof, Shawn, I don't want to go check my lawn, but I think it needs mowing. Fortunately it's just a patch of green, not a real lawn....
Nicki, glad things were drama-less with your daughter. I had an interesting talk with my girls yesterday--now that they're living in other places most of the time, where they're expected to clean up after themselves, AND notice other general messes and deal, they realized how lucky they've had it at home.... They actually did some things unasked today. Huh. Growing up....
Honey, hope the leg gets better fast!!
~~~~~

I just had the most relaxing day... (In spite of the air traffic. :-) ) I spent it either reading, catching up with some stuff online, or doing laundry. Which doesn't really sound so relaxing, but when the week ahead starts looking too crazy, it's just really calming to know you'll have clean undies, ya know??

In addition to the hormonal tiredness, we're still adjusting to having a 7th grader around. The biggest challenge so far is that I have to speak Hebrew most of the time. My level is OK, but I'm not used to it being my primary language. It's very draining.... The first two weeks of school have passed without problems. Also without being full weeks, since last week they had two days off. Next week is full, then they have two weeks off. Oof. I have some of that time off, too, but not all of it. Keeps life interesting. Which is the goal, right??? LOL!

Lisa

Hi you guys. I'm back for another attempt. ;-)

Hey Shore, I'd be amazed if you *didn't* have a pretty healthy dose of schadenfreude about your workplace and its fate after your departure. Hehe. I know that you'll do a good job of documenting as much as you can. Believe me, they will thank you for it. I actually had someone tell me thank you for archiving information SIX YEARS after I left a job where I had been the Lone Ranger. Seriously. I KNEW they'd want it!! LOL!

Honey, good luck resolving your leg issue ASAP. Do you think a foam roller might help? Sounds like it could be IT band. I could always manage to irritate that part of my leg as well as my shins if I tried to power-walk too fast. Even when I was in great shape. That was when I said screw it to attempting anything close to a 4 mph walking pace, and decided that walking half marathons was not something I enjoyed! LOL! Also you might try some deep glute stretches just to help keep things in balance - I found it so easy to get super tight with hips and glutes yet never realize how much so until BAM! PAIN!! At which point it was a lot more intensive of an exercise to recover as opposed to prevention.

MLO I hope things can calm down for you soon. Moving is a nightmare even without any of that extra stuff going on. When I saw your laundromat bill I thought, wow, people could rent to own a washer and dryer for that kind of fee and probably be clear on them in not much more than a year! I remember going to the laundromat with my mom when we were really little. I know for sure that it didn't take more than two quarters to start the washer back then! And I would swear to you that the dryer was just a dime. And powered by gas and hotter than he##!! LOL

Nicki, good job on getting structure back into your eating plan! I'm glad that you're already seeing results and hope you will reach your goal with no problems! :-D I'm glad your DD found shared housing. That is one of the cheapest and most stable ways to share since you're not depending on a single roommate to keep the arrangement functional. When I did that, I really saved a lot of money.

Hi, Shawn! You are one busy mama. Not that that is news. Taking one day and even one meal at a time is a great plan when you tend to get overwhelmed or discouraged. If you have the large pieces in place such as on-plan foods being in your house, then you can make the daily steps work without much trouble.

Lisa, gas masks? :-S I guess that shouldn't be surprising in any way, but as you know, it's not exactly something that ever crosses your mind to have on hand in the States these days. Unless you're some kind of Łber-libertarian survivalist or something. I will say that I often find your descriptions of the style of social interactions there fascinating. They have an apparent quality of interdependence that is appealing to me. It makes me wonder how much of that is due to the constant threat of military conflict hanging over people's heads, or if it's due to something else entirely. I have little other knowledge of the culture and wouldn't know what other factors those might be. And, oh yes, keep me posted on your upcoming foray to Portlandia. :-)))

Hi Tara! Glad to see you posting again. Let us know if you get stuck implementing your renewed plans and we will help. :-)

Me - I honestly don't feel like I know where to start so I'll just blab a while. I have been continuing with the intermittent fasting for about six weeks now. It is really not at all difficult. And I think it is one of the best things I could possibly do for myself mental-clarity and energy-wise. Possibly it is resulting in a little bit of weight loss, which of course is welcome, but is honestly at least third, maybe even fifth on the list of desired effects now that I think about it. My docs seem happy as well so I plan to continue this indefinitely. It honestly makes things SO MUCH EASIER to not have to worry about eating, too, when kid chaos is descending all around me. Oy!! So, now, the biggest stuff that I am working with my main doc on is getting my hormones balanced and my adrenals back in shape. The hormones are wack, but not affecting me as badly as they once did now that we have some other, underlying things under control. The adrenals we are going to re-evaluate in a couple weeks and see what we find out. I'm pretty happy with her ability to come up with ideas to get my peri-menopausal mess straightened out. Now, if I could just get my shoulder pain issues squared away, I'd be thrilled. Various measures have proved only marginally helpful so far, so I'm thinking of getting a referral to a PT/OT next week if at all possible. If my experience with them over the last couple years, they seem pretty good at diagnosing and treating typical Mom injuries. :-0

I wish I could say that I had a solid exercise program in place right now, but I don't. I try to work in walks and bike rides whenever I can. It's pretty mellow. I am really quite wary of pushing myself to do a lot of exercise at the moment, because it was not at all long ago that I was dealing with serious fatigue on a daily basis. I do not in ANY way want to trigger a reoccurrence of that, and I sense that it wouldn't be too difficult to do. So......I'm gonna keep it mellow (hi, Mellow) and keep up the fasting plus eating well and see what happens. The last couple days, I weighed myself (the second day to make sure the previous day's reading hadn't been a fluke) and was really shocked to see myself at 181. That is definitely welcome. My current goal of an optimal weight is 160, so I feel like it is within reach at some point in the next year if I can keep getting better health-wise.

I am still not eating any gluten or dairy, which is treating me well, and am considering going on the autoimmune paleo protocol (google it) since I do have a thyroid condition. Also because I suspect there is way more systemic inflammation going on for me than I ever knew, and that I may be causing a lot of it via what I eat, without ever realizing it.

Ok - enough blabbing from me. I hope you guys all have a great weekend! :-) :-) :-)

Jenga

Hi Everyone Ė

Honey Ė take care of your leg so you are good to go for walking on your trip.

Nicki Ė very cute that you got a cat. Glad DD (19) moved out without any drama. Good luck cleaning everything. Iím just glad my backyard is smaller than my front yard so it doesnít take as long to mow.

Last night after work, I met DD for her fall softball game. They won. I didnít get home before it was pitch black out so no lawn mowing last night. LOL

This morning I drove DD and her friends to school on my way to work. Tonight I have to go help out at the ball field because we have two Fall Ball softball games being played there. I found out one is at 6pm and one is at 8pm so I have a new plan. Iíll go home after work, mow the back yard, put the garbage and yard waste cans out on the street and then go help out at the field since weíll be there until 10:30pm.

Saturday I have to do laundry and then run the church raffle from 4-6:30 pm. After that I meet my friends at a local Fall Festival to listen to 2 bands. Sunday is church and then in the evening, I go back to the fest for the Bon Jovi Tribute band. They end at 8:30pm which closes the fest.

Hi everyone! I just saw a funny quote on Pintrest- ďIím so tired of food having calories!Ē LOL

MLO- wow, lots going on, wow!!! Iíve colored my own hair since I was 14- almost 30 years now! I think Iíve gotten it professionally done like 3 times? Just use a deep conditioner like a week after. Iíve really liked the John Feria foam color, itís just definitely darker on your hair than what the box indicates. Sorry about your MIL, hope sheís doing better!!! I canít believe it was that expensive to do your laundry in a Laundromat!!!

Honey, so sorry about your husbandís friend- you are such a good friend to her. Hugs to you. ITA about the working dog, etc opinion. Luckily DH didnít bond with the breeder up in VA, heís probably going to go with the NC one, and those dogs were very ďchillĒ LOL. The NC breeder wonít have any pups until early next year probably, so that gives us a chance to get our yard fenced first!

Shorey- it is amazing trying to explain every little thing you do in a day- and I know for me, not everything comes up every day, so itís harder! You just have a couple weeks left, light at the end of the tunnel!

Shawn- yes, one step at a time. Truly words to live by. I canít believe itís been 5 years since your nephew died! Wow. Hugs to you, for sure. You just hang in there and do the best you can do. I HATE mowing my backyard- itís 1/3 grass/weeds, 2/3 dirt and rocks.

Lisa- I love your posts no matter when they happen . I agree with being a little older and wiser when you start studies. I hope youíre staying safe, I do think of you and how close you are there in Israel with the whole Syria thing!

As to me, we have joined the pet owners! DH surprised me and we got a cat last Saturday! We looked on Friday night, and then DH and DD went up to VA to visit the breeder (the one he didnít like, he found out, LOL), and DS and I went and finalized the adoption at Second Chance cat adoptions. Heís about 1 year old, very mellow, grey tabby cat. His name is Dave Meowthews. I named him. He loves getting in the bathtub after someoneís taken a bath or shower. Heís a quick learner- the first day, when he did something I didnít want him to do (jump on the kitchen table/counters, etc) I squirted him with a water bottle and hissed at him. Now we just have to hiss and he gets down. Heís super cute, sleeps with DD at night, not a big shedder. Yay! I love having a kitty around.

Also, DD(19) moved out without drama. She found a room/bathroom to rent, sheíll have 3 female roommates, in student housing near the NC State campus. Itís pretty inexpensive with all utilities included, a kitchen and living room. She left a HUGE mess- I worked on Monday for 45 minutes in her bathroom and itís not clean yet- and itís like 4x4 feet. Havenít even started on cleaning up the crap in her bedroom. Oh well. Itís done.

I was down 2 lbs today for wid, so thatís down a total of 10 lbs in about 5 weeks, so a steady pace to get below 200 lbs by 2014.

Hi Everyone

HERE! I like the idea of posting once a month at least.

(((MLO))) - so sorry to hear all that you are dealing with. That is very tough to handle.

SHAWN - good job on the water and the trimming.

LISA - nice to see you posting.

I have been walking alot lately and have gotten new shoes, and now a tendon or ligament by the side of my knee is hurting. :-( I need to be able to walk and walk on my trip and I just hope this doesn't get worse or slow me down.

Hi Everyone Ė

Lisa Ė maybe we should all just commit to posting once a month and if we do more than that it is a bonus. LOL. Hope you are doing well.

Tuesday I drank 88 ounces of water throughout the day and most of my food choices were good ones. I ended up having to go to Walgreens for toilet paper and milk. I had hoped my prescription would be ready but it wonít be ready until Wednesday. Called AT&T and after 45 minutes, the TVs were up and running again. After that, I made dinner and relaxed.

Last night we had our chiropractor appointment. After that we picked up my prescription and when I got home, I went outside for about 30 minutes and trimmed around the house, garage and next to the fence in the backyard. Unfortunately it got too dark for me to mow the grass back there. I ended the day with another 88 ounces of water.

This morning I got up, got ready and made salads for lunch. Tonight after work, I meet DD for her fall softball game. Iím hoping when we get home that I have enough daylight left to get that back yard mowed.

Hi, kids!

I think it's time to stop apologizing for always dropping off, and start committing to coming here the first weekend of the month, and any more is [non-fattening, diet-conforming] gravy. Of course, it might lead to some confusion as I respond to things you posted 5 weeks ago!

And since this is a long weekend for me....

Shorey, I had to look up "curtsy squats". LOL! This actually looks... almost fun...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvzq0JzM2NM
And yeah, I wouldn't recommend mandatory military service in a normal place that's not actively at war. But, um, Israel isn't quite there yet. And it's getting more not normal by the minute! But, hey, we have gas masks now, so why worry?? emoticon

The Portland trip is looking almost definite.

Nicki, there's some leeway as to when military service starts, but basically you can't do studies first without approval. The advantage to this is that by the time the kids actually start the next level of studies, they're more mature, and tend to have a better idea of what they want. They worked out the "being away from home" stuff in the army, then they usually travel and work for a year or two. The disadvantage is that by the time they get to graduate school, they're often married with a kid or two. Makes things a little different.... And ((Hugs)) for dealing with your own daughter....

Hi, Tara!

Jenga, sorry for the dreaded lost post!

(((Honey))) sorry about your friend's husband. Not easy. Not fair.

Oh, and MLO! I can't quite imagine dealing with a move, no kitchen, and a family illness at the same time... Sending positive thoughts.

Shawn, ((hugs)) to you, too. I can't believe it's been 5 years since your nephew's death. And... on a more positive note... hard to believe your daughter is so grown up. Ah, time.

Speaking of which, time for me to get in some exercise. After a VERY enjoyable day of doing pretty much nothing.

Lisa

Hi Everyone Ė

Jenga Ė sorry you lost your long post. That is so frustrating. Thanks for posting anyway.

Nicki Ė thanks for the encouragement. Iím going to take things one step at a time with everything. There is so much I need to do around the house, with me regarding food, water and exercise plus DDís activities that I just need to refocus and tackle 1 thing at a time and not feel guilty if that 1 thing is all I get done. Sorry about the scale slide but good for you for taking control and getting the scale to start moving down again.

Honey Ė {{{HUGE HUGS}}} so sorry about your friendís husband.

MLO Ė {{{HUGS}}} for you too. Sounds like quite a lot going on over there. Good luck with everything and hope your mother in law is doing better. And youíre right I have learned my lesson Ė no more running out of thyroid meds.

Shorey Ė good luck training the new person.

The weekend was okay. Had a major storm fly through Chicago on Friday around rush hour so traffic was a disaster. DDís softball game got cancelled after literally 3 batters. Friday night my brother came home for the weekend so I ended up going out with him for awhile. Saturday I puttered around the house and then DD & I went to my best friendís house to hang out with her and her husband to watch the Nascar Nationwide race and just chill. We havenít done that in quite awhile so nice and relaxing. Sunday we got up and hurried home because both DD and I had to serve at the 11:15 am Mass at our church. After church I changed clothes, ran to the grocery store and got ready to go to my brotherís house for an end of the summer BBQ. Yesterday I rested.

Emotionally it was a hard weekend because Saturday was the 5 year anniversary of my nephewís death. First, I canít believe itís been 5 years and second, it sucks that he should have been 23 years old and enjoying life after college, etc. The BBQ on Sunday was a nice distraction for my brother and sister in law since it was mainly family.

I did okay drinking water this weekend but food choices werenít so good. However I made salads for today and tomorrowís lunch and will take it one day, one meal at a time.

Yesterday a transformer near the house caused a power outage. Once the electricity was back on, I went to turn on the TV and the one in my room wonít reset itself. It freezes halfway during the restart so Iíll have to fight with AT&T tonight when I get home. I also realized I need to clean the fish tank and put new filters in it so Iíll do that tonight too.

Shawn

Good Morning to you all!
Jenga - Hate it when interwebz eat the post.

Honey - I'm sorry to hear about your friends husband.

Nicki - Good job on being down on your weight yeah. New hairstyle always makes you feel great.

MLO - I cannot believe how much it costs to do laundry. Holy Cow!!!! Hope your MIL is doing better. Scary. That's a lot going on.

Shawn - Hope things have calmed down a bit for you.

Me - I've been training new person and it's exhausting. I have so much I do on automatic pilot it isn't funny. Hard to slow down to explain every little detail. Just until the end of the month then I won't have to do anything about it anymore. Last night thunder rolled and scared Miss Honda so much she shook for three hours and I had her on the bed with us just so she would calm down some. Ugh. I'm a bit tired today. Hope today there's no Thunder or DH at least turns the radio on for her to hopefully mask the sound a little.

That's about it. TTFN

Shorey...don't worry your co-workers are going to miss you terribly! I know when I left a couple jobs...management had to get 2 people to handle my work..plus they will call you! No escape from that...but also the new player will want to handle on her/his own but just get a bit of feedback from you.

Shawn...thyroid meds...don't mess with success. Lack of this assistance just leads to more issues.

During all the ruckus I'm handling...making appts for hair, other self-care needs...just in the trash. Cutting hair myself. Bangs look the most amateurish. I have a note on my calendar to order something called a Bango...also I bought Clairol hair color...last time I did my own was a nightmare..ended up with red, burnt, ugly look...had to have it all cut off! That was in 1985...swore I would never do again...but no way to keep and make appointments in next 2 weeks or longer plus everyone I know face to face and online does it...

Weight flux up/down...just when I think I have control of my menu...slammed with long hours in hospital, or unpacking, appliance shopping end up scarfing down anything just to kill the hunger and frustration.

Since my Computer Internet has been "Boo Hiss" and ipad apps for Fitday didn't seem to get handled...checked out Calorie King and some other ideas. Finally just gave the Sparkpeople tracker a shot...am on day 4 and tho it isn't as comfy as my Personal Fitday (not the free service) (which I had at least 20 Custom foods...including "my salad".. So I don't have to log in greens, olives, mint, tomatoes, blah,blah separate) hopefully this week I'll get the time and patience to figure out some shortcuts to that program.

Other than that! Happy Labor Day almost and I have been popping in here while in waiting rooms, on-hold with Tech Guru, etc.~mlo

My last post 8/11

Office conversion

Living like Amish woman...no counter, no kitchen sink, no microwave, no dishwasher,no cabinets, no flooring! No washer/dryer! tDoing dishes in lower level bathroom at the moment. Using a lot of paper plates, toaster oven.

No washer/dryer! My first trip to Laundromat was eye opening! I took $11 in quarters.HA! Cost over $20 bucks. No wonder families in poverty can't get out! This was for 2 people, folks there had twice as much as me! Plus it was 115 degrees that day inside the place! Needless to say...we hit Lowes, Home Depot right away for appliances...funny thing...they all out of stock for what we want? Ended up at Sears? Go figure...they had the Bosch,LG, etc and could deliver in 48 hours. Sign us up!

We did not want to move forward on Office conversion until we knew FOR SURE that the home sale was gonna happen. So this is how we got caught in peril.

Next up...our Server crashed! So work was a challenge..actually just got off the phone tonight with Tech Guru who has been struggling to restore all my Accounting.

Next up...my Mother inLaw had a heart attack last Saturday so rush to Hospital many nights. Try to connect with family and friends to give updates and info.

Next up...decided to bring her cat to the Office/Home...now can't set alarm when we leave building as she will trigger the sensors. She a Maine Coon...huge, bizzy...has already knocked over a flat screen TV on a pedestal in the Florida room. Danl needs to change the settings...so alarm will fire up only if someone is trying to enter at doors, not windows, too.

NICKI - didn't see your post until after I left mine. Anatolian Shepard - make sure you get a very good breeder and confirm theirs make good house pets. They are working dogs and huge and that is not always a good combination. Working dogs need a job and if you don't give them one they will find their own and you may not be happy about what they choose!

Our Evie is a Leonberger. She is 126 pounds and about a year and a half old now. Leonbergers basically come as either couch potatoes or turbos- the turbos have the personality of border collies. Not very doable without a lot of land and something for them to do. Our breeder told us all of her dogs are couch potatoes. :-) Even with that, when Evie gets really excited it is all I can do to stop her. She is sweet and wonderful and I love her to pieces, but she can be a real handful. She is like a bear - she goes through things instead of over or around them. Good luck!!

Hi everyone! Jenga, bummer about the lost post! Hi to you too!

Shawn- emotional stuff sux, yes? Hang in there, I just did a major backslide (from 202 to 234 since last October because of my ice cream addiction!!!), and now am down to 226 as of WID yesterday. I was upset with myself, then I figured that wouldnít do me any good and to just refocus and decide what I was going to do. So Iím back. Two steps forward and one step back is okay as long as we keep taking the two steps forward, LOL.

Honey- you hang in too! It will all get done, it always does, right? It is nice to have your trip to focus on. I too am trying to add intensity to my workouts, I figure if Iím working out I want to get everything out of it I can!

Shorey- sorry work is stressful, but soon it wonít be your problem. I know what you mean about wanting the department to fall apart- Iíll bet youíd like some acknowledgement of all you did over the years that they donít even know you did- but theyíll find out once youíre gone! Itís normal to feel that way. Yah, dd is a challenge, it will all work out- she has until Sunday, after that the locks are changed and her stuff is at Goodwill.

And frankly, dd is acting like sheís calling our bluff on moving out- except itís not a bluff. Sheís out. So kinda stressful, but soon to be over. Sheís got to learn, and she really is so disrespectful. Sigh.

DH went to a dog breeder- he wants an Anatolian Shepherd dog. These suckers get to be like 120 lbs, and are very protective of the family. So, weíll have that to contend with. Luckily DH has experience training dogs. Also, I got my hair cut- and got bangs again. Iíve grown my hair out for the past year and a half, and just donítí like how I look without bangs. Thereís a salon right next door to my work, so she did my bangs on Wednesday Ė for free! And I went back yesterday for an official cut. I really like it- itís more bangs than Iím used to, but I wanted a little different than what I had back in the bangs days before, LOL. So overall very happy. And she does free trims too, lol!

Down another 1.5 lbs this WID. My goal is to be below 200 lbs by 12/31/13. So thatís 26 lbs in about 16 weeks. A stretch goal, but possible. Iím diligently logging and making it happen!!!

Everyone have a great day!

Wow, I just lost a really, really long post and I am pissed. No time to retype so I'll just say HI and sorry that the Internet ate all my news and your personals. :-(

See you guys later.

Hi Everyone Ė

Honey Ė thanks, I know it was stupid to run out of the thyroid meds and Iíll stay on top of it from now on. Sorry work is crazy but at least you have your 2 weeks away to look forward to. Hang in there. {{{HUGS}}}

Iím doing okay. Have some emotional stuff going on right now so trying to keep a handle on everything. Last night I did some running around and then we had to go to the City Council meeting last night. The mayor gave certificates to the 2013 winning softball teams and the 2013 boys and girls All-Star teams. Itís a nice little ceremony for the kids at the beginning of the meeting. Tonight I have one errand to do on the way home and then I have laundry to do. Iíve been feeling over tired so I think Iíll try to go to bed a little early tonight or at least lie down early and rest.

Hi everyone

Hope you are all having a good week.

SHAWN - good job on getting more sleep. And congrats on your daughter being in high school! That seems crazy. :-) And try not to run out of your thyroid meds again - it will seriously derail you in life! I missed a few days in a row and I really felt it.

I am here and just trucking along. Feeling very overwhelmed lately. Work is insane and I can't believe I'm going to be gone for two weeks shortly. I am trying to get things all set so it won't be a problem for me to be gone, but that is a big PITA at the moment. I know I need to exercise with more intensity, but I am having trouble with that lately.

Hi Everyone -

Honey - sounds like you are doing things right. Keep it up and you'll start losing again.

Nicki - thanks, I know she's basically a good kid but it's so hard realizing she's almost 15 and needs to have little bits of freedom. Like yesterday I dropped her off to meet 2 of her friends and then they walked to the mall and her friend's 17 year old brother dropped them back at my house later for a sleepover. Then 2 of the boys in our neighborhood came over and they played volleyball in my front yard for awhile. Today the same 2 boys came over and the 5 of them walked to our local pizza place to hang out. Ugh.

So sorry about the drama with your DD and your DH. Keep the faith, I'm sure it will all work out in the end.

Shorey - I know it's scary that DD is now a freshman. Can't believe you are still having so many work issues. Hope it all works out for you.

I was out of thyroid medicine for about 2 months because there was never a good time to go in for an appointment. Finally went in the week I was on "stay"cation. They didn't argue with me this time. They reviewed my file and gave me my prescription. Unfortunately when they weighed me, I was back at my highest ever. After three weeks on my meds, I'm starting to feel better again.

I haven't been exercising. However this morning I went out and pulled all the weeds in the front and trimmed around everything and then mowed the front lawn. Everything took me just over 2 hours. The back yard will have to wait until tomorrow night. I decided that I need to at least start doing some walking for 30 minutes a day while the weather is still nice and if it's a crappy day, I need to start doing my 30 minute DVDs again.

With DD starting high school this past week, it has forced me to lie down between 10 and 10:30pm and falling asleep around 11pm. Since we have to be up at 6am to both get ready, I've been getting 7 hours of sleep each night. I'm sure that will help me stay on track too.

Water intake has been pretty good overall. Food choices go up and down. This past week, I oatmeal for breakfast and I made sure to have salads with lots of veggies at lunchtime which made me feel better. Now to keep it up this week. I haven't been logging mainly because I know what I should be eating and I know what my portions should be and I think the only way to lose the weight again, keep it off and stay on track is to take it meal by meal and not stress out.

Will try to keep up here. I think it will help keep me on track.

Shawn

Good Morning to you!!

Work is a bit stressful since the new person wonít be with me full time until just maybe the second week of September. So Three weeks of training is all she needs right? Um ya, the department will probably become the laughing stock of the company. Not my deal. I feel for her because none of this is her fault. I went to my bosses boss to see if he get her in here permanently next week. Food wise hasnít been stellar Iíve been logging it anyways. Exercise is going pretty well. Canít out exercise bad eating though.

Honey Ė Good job with staying in limits. Iím so excited for your trip for you!!!

Shawn Ė I just canít believe your daughter is a freshman this year. YIKES!!! You are a good momma and strong one too.

Nicki- Good job for being down 7 pounds whoo hooo. Glad logging is working out for you. Oh no about DD. Thatís hard. Iím not a mom and have no clue what to say. Iím sure it will all workout; I just donít know how. Does your DD have another friend she can move out with? Why is her other friend backing out?

Time to slam more things into new database so they canít hold that over my head either. BBWWWAAHHHAAAA

Is it sad that I actually want the department to fall apart? I know it wonít ďtechnicallyĒ fall apart; I just know there are things I know my boss has no clue on how to fix certain things. Reason being because Iím still working on a computer HE broke from when I was gone to Europe and HE LEFT it for me to fix because he didnít know how. Basically they cloned a computer that never needed cloning and when they cloned it they didnít use a GAS store clone they used a normal store clone which in turn BLEW everything up. Iíve pieced it together and got it functioning moderately well. There is one thing I havenít been able to get fixed. Iíll be throwing that back on his plate when he gets back from vacation. Iím done dealing with the BS. The kicker is the original fix without cloning I had it in solutions in tracking system and all he had to do was delete out one sql statement that WE added in and it would have worked. Itís a sort statement.

Off that tangent things like that.

Anyways. You all have a great day and weekend.

Hi there!

Shawn- yep, it's a freaking out moment for sure! She'll be great, you're a great mom and have taught her well. Just make sure you stay communicating with her, you'll be fine!

Honey- I'm doing great with the logging! It's kept me away from the ice cream on more than one occasion, that's for sure, LOL. I lost another 3 lbs this week, for a total of 7 so far this month- 7 down of the 25 I had regained from last year! But at least headed in the right direction. I wouldn't worry about holding steady for a couple weeks, it's just your body settling.

Also, doing zumba and started adding in weights again. I also got on our Wii Fit, that we've had for ages- my Wii fit age is 8 years less than my real age, which is awesome! LOL. But it's kind of cool, and motivating.

Trouble with dd- she was to move out at the end of the month, and now the girl she was going to share an apartment with is backing out, and DH won't let her stay- his point is "she made her choice, now she has to live with it, even if she has to sleep in her car or crash with friends." So drama.I get his point, but I'm still her mother.....sigh. It will all work out (right???!!!)

Everyone have a great day!

Hi Shawn and Shorey and Everyone else!

SHAWN - great to see you posting here again.

SHOREY - yeah for the new person!

TARA - nice to see you posting here again.

JENGA - hope all is well with you.

MLO - hope the move has gone well and you are enjoying your smaller digs.

NICKI - how goes the logging?

I am here, logging things, and working hard to stay within my limits. On the good side my weight has gone down and stayed there, but on the bad side it has stayed the same for the last two weeks.

Still working hard and prepping for my trip. :-)

Hi everyone -

Trying to not go crazy in my 3D life so sorry I haven't come here to chat and support all of you.

Wanted to pop in today as the beginning of a new start.

Today I dropped off DD for her first day of her freshman year of high school and I'm a bit freaked out.

Will hopefully get back in the swing of things here and will catch up with all of you.

Hi ya all!!!

Hope all is well. I've had the new person for about three days this week and already put her on the phones to get the "hands" experience and so forth. I think she'll do fine as long as she has notes to rely on and I'm working on making sure they have more detail than originally done. Basically so it's written for anyone to walk into the job and be able to find everything and somehow fix things. I didn't realize how much "little" things I do that I don't have any type of notes on. Geesh.

Tiara - welcome back to Spark People and the group.

The exact title for a topic I needed Jenga. At work, so can't post much yet, but... I am fighting my way back. Back to 3 points, back to logging my food, back, back to health. And back to posting here. Not sure how long I've been gone, but absolutely positive I need the support and this community to get where I'm headed!

MLO - hope the rest of the moving goes well! And boy do I understand about boys and their toys. With my DH, he is a fisherman, and we have poles, waders, boots, dry bags, fly tying stuff galore. Not to mention all the bike stuff - multiple bikes, wheel sets, trainers, etc. Our garage is a very full place. :-)

On the safety front - well I am not really worrying about that too much. I'll be in London and Paris, not Yemen, so I figure it should be fine. :-)

NICKI - yes, this is the husband of the friends I am cooking for. I know this was inevitable, it is still just really sad.

SHOREY - good attitude on the work stuff - you just have to let it go. They are making their own bed, and they will have to lie in it after you are gone. And make sure you DON'T take those phone calls! LOL

I am recording everything, and exercising more, and as long as I stay away from foods I know I react to, my weight keeps going down. It is slow progress over here, but I will take it!

-Honey

POW! BIFF! BAM! Arms waving! Huff puff...trying to keep up!

JEEP...channelling your energy! Hear you on the muscle over-use, tension, and in my case spasms from tote that barge, lift that bale! Yes, the whole pack it up is beyond my wildest imaginations. We may need 2 storage units to handle the over-flow...now, I not say that as an elitist with a place for all my jewels but more to store camping, hunting, fishing and survival gear! Lol...married to a true outdoorsman...don't call him Danl (we're not lost, just exploring) Boone for nothing! They need a lot of stuff to feel happy and safe! Of course if we really needed to get out of Dodge for some sort of high alert...could we even get to the storage facility? Lol

Speaking of Safe...Honey, thinking of you as you will be crossing the Pond and off to foreign lands at a time of some serious travel alerts. I'm sure you have been in touch with advisors and taking precautions.

Also Nicki...I've spent little time on the couch often dragging, slogging and schlepping boxes, bags, gigandis artwork under my arms...up/down stairs from Man-cave to 3rd Floor Guest areas...yet! Gaining over a pound a week...partly because of clearing out 3freezers! Who put in a Key Lime Pie? 2 Pizzas? Things I seldom eat, unless sharing with a group of friends or family??? The fun of realize I pack every can opener? Pizza cutter? My kingdom for a rubber band? Thank goodness for the RV that is stocked...of course had to put a post a note on the outside of Van to remind to return the items...no grocery near Mountain streams of PA!

Another reason for abundant materials...we have 2 or 3 of everything! Coffee pots, egg cookers, silverware sets, pots/pans, etc. Office, home and RV! 5 refrigerators including the RV and keeping inventory for all ...DONE! I told Danl...leave the BAR fridge for new Owners...come on! It is just 2 of us most times though we do have Danls special needs son 2 weekends a month. He is diabetic so need special food inventory for him as well. Time to SIMPLIFY!

We used to entertain so much. Our home could handle the family and friends for all Holidays including Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Easter, Xmas...really felt sometimes like a Buffet Event Coordinator. But now it is time to figure out other ways to celebrate.

Broke down my Work Out Studio and weight bench, treadmill and toys will go into storage. I kept my Bosu ball, free weights, various leg and wrist weights...but now I need to figure out what to do...checked out a couple of Gyms in my area...Elite Fitness reminds me of an Army Training barracks...do have a higher end Athletic Club. Pricey...more like a Country Club.

I'll be watching everyone's progress...sort of from cyber-afar since Wednesday we sign papers and Thursday the movers come...hopefully next weekend I can find my iPad (charged up?) and check back in here. ~mlo

emoticon Good Morning my peeps.

I went to massage and chiro yesterday and feeling much better. My back is sore from being ground into and my neck feels much better now that bones are back in their rightful place. We got the trailer ready for DH to head up camping today. Work is work. Did I mention we only get the new person for four hours for three days next week and one day for full time? Then full time in September. Plus the days sheís with me for part time afterwards she gets to go back to field audit to do inventories. Not sure how sheíll remember things. Basically only one month of training, I know it isnít enough but not my deal and I will not help them out in October this goose is done/cooked.

Honey Ė emoticon YEAH for being productive. Iím so sorry to hear about your friendís hubby. emoticon I canít wrap my head around on how to deal with that at such a young age. Thanks for the info on MyFitnessPal. I went ahead and loaded on my iPhone and been playing around with it.

Nicki Ė emoticon for tracking and NO emoticon you are emoticon . Baby steps my friend. Small ones lead to big changes. Iím working on that still myself which will be a continuous process.

Jenga - I hope things are going well.b emoticon

Hi everyone!
Honey, yes, I use My Fitness Pal too, love it- love that I can just scan a bar code and itís 90% of the time there! Itís really kept me on track this past week or so- and Iím getting in all my protein, which I was struggling with as a carboholic! Iím glad youíre being productive, and it is so hard about your friendís husband- theyíre the ones youíve been cooking for, yes?

Mlo- I HATE to move. I told DH that the next time Iíd be moving it would be in a pine box, LOL. DH is way more of a pack rat than I am, but I am not perfect! But I have gotten rid of a whole bunch of stuff for sure, cleaning one room really well at a time. Just out of my linen closet I had a huge bunch of sheets, etc- mostly for a queen sized bed we donít even own.

Shorey- Iím so sorry about your migraine! How awful! Hope you feel much better soon.

Jenga- thanks for the info on Shawn. She was just such a staple! I know (boy how I know!) that life gets in the way. I wonder sometimes- since no one in this group (or others I belong to) has my info, if I just disappear, no one will know what happened to me, LOL. Kids are wonderful and challenging, for sure! Keep it up, remember, this too shall pass.

Lisa- do kids get to choose when their mandatory military service starts? And they wait until that is finished to start their further education?

Well, Iím hanging in. Been below my calorie goal for all week. Counting every blt! And NO ice cream. Although the monkeys have been calling, Iíve been able to shut them up pretty well. Not doing as much exercise, do have Zumba tonight, but for me itís just so much about the food if I want to lose weight. DH still not supportive, but thatís never going to change so I really donít even care anymore, LOL. Everyone have a wonderful day/night!

Hi Everyone

I am feeling very productive lately. Lots of cooking, tracking, exercising, errand running, reading blogs, listening to Rick Steve's audio files, playing with trying on clothes for the trip, etc. :-)

SHOREY - I use MyfitnessPal. I think Nicki does too? I love that the database is so complete - I can look up almost anything I buy at Trader Joe's and it is in their database. I do it on my iphone and it is just super easy to use. I also love the "multi-add" feature - where I can look at my most used items and click a bunch at a time - it really helps when I am trying to add a salad or something with a bunch of ingredients.

MLO - 60 boxes - OY!! That has to be a good work out.

JENGA - here is some good juju to help you conquer the grumpy feelings.

I am trying to be very grateful everyday for all that I have. My good friend's husband is 33 yrs old with cancer, with a baby almost 1 year old, and she has been told that he has days/weeks left. It is so sad. It makes me want to just tell DH to suck it up and stop complaining about how hard his very easy life is.

Hello my lovely peeps.

DH and I went riding on Saturday and I found out that riding approximately 30 miles of trail creates a migraine for me the next day. Yesterday I spent recovering from that; today my head is still sore per se because of my neck and back being tight. I am pretty sure thatís what causing the headache. Thatís about all Iíve got right now.

Mlo Ė Wow packing 60 boxes thatís a lot. Iíve pulled things out of our RV also when Iíve run out of something in the house. Trick is to remember to put it back in there. Lol.

Jenga Ė I know you are very busy. Lol.

Hello Fun-Seekers!

Lisa...I checked out your link...forwarded to email address. So I just noticed you are a co-leader on a Sparkteam with the same dynamics.

French....took for 3 years in high school...but, like anything...if not refreshed..we forget..wish I had friends in Canada to keep the memory.

Read all the posts...I'm brain-dead from packing 60 boxes, and not done yet. Stoopid stuff like 10 cutting boards, 6 colanders....too much stuff ...we donated 10 boxes, trashed so much Xmas things, Party items like a marguerita ball, banquet items like electric heating trays, old toy trains...ice skates which haven't been used in 50 years? Not mine...but Danl likes to hang on to things. Not me! Can't stand clutter!

I do think moving is like having a baby. We forget the pain quickly. Our last move was 13 years ago and remember nothing! Of course we didn't have a finished basement aka "Man-Land," Danls son who is "Special Needs" and has a suite here that he visits 2 weekends a month....which didn't exist in our previous home.

I have the scale ready to pack tomorrow....gee, so sad...NOT! I'll be winging it as Nighthawk used to say. All kitchen stuff packed up...can use the Galley in the RV if I need resources. Already snagged aluminum foil since I allow us to run out at home.

Our new digs will be challenging...the kitchen is waiting for new cabinets and flooring. No microwave or dishwasher for a while either...oh! And no laundry room...gee, flashbacks from Hell as I'll be using a laundromat! One of the biggest time bandits! Gee, I can be 19 again?

Updates on-going....one thing is obvious...need to get back into structured training with weights as my stamina is compromised.~mlo

Shorey, I know, it's ridiculous isn't it?? Of course I have very little social life in general so it's not like you are special in me ignoring you. LOLOL Thank god for social media or I would feel like I have no life at all!

Good job everyone on keeping track of what works and following through with it. It's not always easy but the results are always soooo much better when you take a long series of small, positive steps vs trying to take giant leaps in an all-fired hurry.

Nicki, I just think Shawn is super busy right now but I'm hoping she can hand off some of her volunteering stuff as planned so she can visit with us more often. :-)

I don't have a lot more to say. Right now I'm sort of cranky and probably I just need to sleep. There are some kid-related things interfering with that which make me feel a bit resentful at the moment. I'm sure it will pass. (In the meantime: Ugh.)

Hope you all have a nice weekend!

emoticon emoticon Hello!!!! My Peeps!!!! emoticon emoticon

Made it to Thursday. Ughhh emoticon . Yesterday I did these Curtsey Squats and some lunges my butt cheeks are sore. Plus since Sunday Iíve been wogging up on our hill the motorcycle track. Thatís a workout let me tell ya. My lungs sometimes feel like they are on fire!! Itís all good and Miss Honda loves running around up there which tires her out. I signed up for the Kiss Me Dirty Run in September. My bestie and I will be celebrating our 40th birthday with this event. Itís a mud run/obstacle course; part of the reason why Iím running on the hill.

The boss has hired someone unfortunately since itís internal we will get her part time starting August 12 for about three days a week, then full time in September. I donít see this going well. Because when I started the position there were three of us on the front line and gradually worked to just me over time. Where she wonít get that opportunity to really ďlearnĒ everything. Iím reviewing my manual that I wrote back in 2006, making changes to it so hopefully it wonít be as bad. I hate feeling like Iím throwing her to the wolves. Oh well after September not my deal. I already told boss that he needs to sit in with me to know what I do to fix certain things. He says he will and yet has done it. Count down is on let me tell ya. Iím freaking tired of the phones and I wonít be off of them until late August. I have to do basic training before I put her on the phones first.

Lisa - Jenga and I live in P-town, Corrie is about five hours away in Southern Oregon. Jenga you werenít to far off. :-p. About when will you be here? Wow daughters are through school already. Hope all goes well with military thing. Iím not sure how to handle the Military being mandatory. Iím not really sure of what to think of that.

Jenga - Youíve been living in P-town for what a year or more now and we havenít yet hooked up. Look at us go. lol. We should one of these days. Iím glad the fasting has been working out for you. Hope the girls are staying out of trouble.

Honey - Which app are you using to log food on? Iíve been using Spark People, which is okay, it works so I donít have to log into another site to log food ya know. That kind of sucks about corn issue. Thatís in everything so it seems. Nothing better than comfy shoes/boots. You be styliní over there in France.

Nicki - Good to see/hear your back on the wagon. Good for you. I know you can do your no buying scream stuff. Would freezing some greek yogurt with fruit in it help the urge of the scream stuff? That way you have a ďsubstitute per say. Just a thought.

Ok off to make some din din and pack the lunch box for another day.

Hi everyone- it's August 1, so I'm back on the wagon! I have logged my food so far today (Honey! It keeps me on track to do that too- I'm successful when I do it so why oh why do I stop??). I use My Fitness Pal on my phone. Love it, it has a scan feature. No ice cream for 6 months. There is still some in the house, but I have other things to snack on like popcorn. I can do this, I won't be psyching myself out, I'm planning on psyching myself into being successful.

Where has Shawn gone???? Did I miss something?

Hi Everyone

Hope you are all enjoying your summer!

JENGA - hope the fasting works well for you. And I hope you finally solve your issues.

LISA - if only I had had high school french! It was 4 yrs of Spanish for me, which made Italy a breeze - I could very easily speak enough Italian to get by since even if I lapsed into Spanish we could still understand each other. :-) I am sure I will be fine in France, but I am practicing some basic phrases before we go. My biggest problem is pronunciation - I want to say it all like it is Spanish. And we will be downloading apps that talk for us, in case we can't say it right.

On the food front, I am using my iphone app and counting my calories every day. Every single, bite, lick, and taste. And it is working so far. I am also staying away from things I know I react to. It really is astounding - I know corn is an issue for me, and the more processed it is, the worse it affects me. Still, it is the one thing I tend to cheat with. I stay totally away from wheat - and haven't had any since January, and the only soy I have is occasional tamari, which seems to be fine. On Friday I had tacos on corn tortillas, and on Saturday morning I felt bloated and huge. I don't know what my weight was to start, but today I am 3.5 pounds lower than I was on Saturday morning. So clearly the corn was a problem. :-)

I bought some awesome short boots for my trip. I LOVE them, and they were on sale at Nordies so woohoo! Comfy and cute - can't beat that.

Hehe. You know, Lisa, I actually, finally ate real chopped liver a few months ago. I just could not pass up that opportunity. And hey, I liked it! LOL!!

Shorey and I are here in Portland. Corrie moved two or three hours south (I live under a rock so I don't know exactly how far away she is!). Let me know if you do wind up in town!

I rode the bike with the girls again today. Not tons, but greater than zero is a good thing, and when you're pedaling 80 extra pounds, even little hills command some serious attention.

I have been incorporating intermittent fasting as a medical therapy of late. Of course it may have a side effect of some weight loss which would be welcome, but the other potential effects would be even better. It is amazingly not difficult for me at all, in fact I typically feel quite good and am super productive after fasting a while. Typically I don't do less than 18 nor more than 24 hours. My docs seem to think this ought to be quite beneficial for me so I am gonna keep with it. I'm thankful that something this simple may be able to help me sort out this complicated stuff I've been dealing with.

Better go
Have a great day!

Jenga

Sunya, Inside Out Weight Loss has really helped me get back to who I am... and it's helping me with the Now while I try to figure out who I want to be. (Jenga recommended it way back when...)

Jenga, chopped liver, am I?? At least let it be lentil-based mock chopped liver with lentils and eggplant. Heh. Made some yesterday and started freaking out because I thought someone moved my Marmite (a.k.a. secret seasoning). Not something I ever pictured freaking out over, but there you are...

Honey, we managed pretty well in France with no more than what we had in high school. (Ya know, high school French from 30 years ago was perfect for reading ads....) The nice thing about travel these days is that you can download dictionaries or Language X for Dummies onto a smartphone and pull it out at need. We did a bit of that when we were in Italy in May. You'll be fine. :-)

YAY, Shorey, for giving notice!!! You've been so unhappy for so long. Glad things are changing! Right after I sent a "let me know if you hear anything" email to a bunch of friends in my field, and updated my resume, our team was restructured. It was almost exactly what I had suggested several months back, so it could be good... if the one who used to be the official team leader doesn't try to bring down the team member who's now officially the leader. I now have an official title to go with what I do, and more authority to do things right. Yeah, there's also more room to officially screw up--but it's a different kind of stress. And you know what they say, a change is as good as a rest!

Oh, and there's a chance I'll be going to a conference in Portland in October.... Who all is out there now? Jenga? Corrie? Shorey--are you there, too?? I'll keep you posted.

MLO, Nicki, Shawn, Mar, anyone else I've missed--thanks for being here.

ME: Well, I didn't mean to drop off the face of the planet again. Really. But life's been a bit crazy. The highlights were getting my girls all officially through school--graduation was on July 4th. Then on the 14th, one of them started her mandatory military service. This is the one who went to a Jewish-Arab school, and went to Italy a couple of times on various peace programs with Palestinian kids, so military service is NOT high on her list of Things I Want To Do In Life. But she's working on it. Two weeks of basic training down, one to go, then she can start training for what she'll actually be doing (a teaching/translation job).

Other stuff, well... My "In Transition" blog pretty much sums it up.

OK, kids. The treadmill is calling.

Hey my peeps.

My boss has only interviewed one person out of 10 people who have called. I think he just called the one person for the second today. Question is how is he to compare to someone else. Iím not saying she may not be able to do the job, but really. I donít get it. Well, if she quits in 6 months to a year not my deal. 9 WEEKS LEFT.

Nicki - Sounds like a good plan with the ice-cream. Without being bought definitely less temptation.

Jenga - Itís definitely warm lately. lol. Yeah for bike rides in sunny weather.

Mlo - Thatís great your appraisal came back matching to asking price. You have definitely been lifting weight lately. lol

Honey - I bought a pair of Keens for my walking shoes. They were AWESOME!! Several of the adults had the Keen sandals. I wore t-shirts, jeans and capris. Some of the cathedrals you will need shoulders covered. The people pretty much wore what I wore for the most except for when it was during working hours. Some of the more ďfashionableĒ women in my group did wear lots of skirts with leggings and walked around in sandals or wedges. If I wore sandals or wedges I wouldnít have made it my back cannot handle that for long amounts of time. We didnít go to really any fancy shmancy restaurants either.

Itís almost 8:00pm and I think Iíll get a walk in with Miss Honda girl.

MLO - enjoy your deep woods experience! Just think - with all of this packing you are getting in your workout without even knowing

We are going to London and Paris, one week in each place and I just can't wait! All this work stuff is getting in the way of my trip planning. lol I am planning like a demon right now. We have dinner one night at Nopi. check out this website - I am so excited about all of the great food. http://www.ottolenghi.co.uk/locations/ Look at the recipes link - they all look awesome! I love Yotam Ottolenghi's cookbook - Plenty, it has great veggie recipes. We were also able to score a reservation at Gordon Ramsey Restaurant - which is a 3 Michelin star place (yikes!). All the restaurant stuff will make DH super happy, and hopefully will help him to endure the long days of museums/sights/and walking that I am planning. :-)

I am also trying to plan clothes for the trip. I don't want to look like a total tourist, but I do want to be comfortable and able to walk all over the place. Shoes are really the biggest issue. And having to have nice clothes for the fancy dinners that I can ball up and smash into my luggage. We are so casual here in NorCal - hard to plan for a European sense of formality. One restaurant we looked at in Paris had a dress code requiring a tux for men. We certainly won't be going there! I am hoping dresses/skirts and leggings will do it for me.

Mar...read your "ventilation" blog. As wives we have a role and a responsibility and hopefully a relationship...but sometimes that section of the partnership gets the short end of the action. I don't know enough about the situation to give any real insight.

Honey...you are going to England as well? What a time to be over there with all the smiling faces from Prince George. D you need a guide? I can help, really, like pull your bags, hail the cabs, sample some restaurants and give you my full reports?

Nicki...I used to read a very fun Diet Guru...she talked a lot about the preference for creamy foods...giving the details why the pleasure is so intense for many of us. I've tried every substitute possible...frozen yogurt, soy, ice milk, Popsicle, Skinny Cow, Italian ice, sugar free, low fat....none solved the problem..you have small kids so I'm sure they want the treats in freezer.

I switched to a couple things...punkin custard and my own enhanced cooked vanilla pudding with ample additions of mocha flavoring...or coconut...something to give an ADULT taste.

As a working mother...I'm sure you are exhausted at the end of the day and the brain wants a reward or maybe even a lift since your "work" is still not done ...with the whole baths, lunch packing, bedtime rituals, planning for next day...maybe have to iron something, fold the dang clothes, review inventory for grocery shop and tomorrow's dinner....rock and roll.

*********************

Our home appraisal came back with a match to our asking price...the inspection fix to level the A/C fans completed. So we are good to go. Our Office is getting new carpeting, new kitchen cabinets...so a ruckus over there as well! In meantime I'm trying to figure out how to condense 5 bathrooms down to 2...actually our Office/Home will be 1/2 size of current residence...plus holds 2 complete offices and a Lobby instead of a living room...just need to be creative. Not one of my strengths...have relied on Interior Designors, Decorators and Stagers for past 15 years.

Advil is calling my name...lifting, dragging, packing, sorting...somehow I thought we were better prepared. Escaping to Deep Woods for last bit 'o fun before the real work begins!~mlo

Jenga- that's a great idea to go talk to my doc about that. I'm sure, at 43, I'm peri menopausal. And I have contemplated the journal writing too. I just got a new fancy Kindle, and downloaded a notebook app that I like to "write" in, so I just may sit in my "library" and journal- or write my best seller!! LOL

Nicki, good plan re: the ice cream. Sometimes you just have to draw a hard line and break a bad habit. Writing a book is quite an undertaking! I was thinking that maybe a different kind of writing may help you. Maybe during the time that you would otherwise eat ice cream, you could write in a journal. I was thinking that you might learn something about what you're feeling at that time. There must be reasons behind the ice cream fests. Maybe you can see your way clear to addressing them in some other ways, if you sit and listen in place of the eating you won't be doing.

The other thing I thought of is that if you actually are peri, there's are likely some pretty precipitous drops in progesterone around ovulation and/or menstruation which cause you to physiologically crave carbs. Personally I know that I would be driven like a robot to eat them to excess and nothing could stop me, not even a mountain of knowledge that I shouldn't. When I started using a progesterone cream, all that stuff got better. Then I got an IUD to help control excessive menstrual bleeding, which has progesterone in it, so I stopped the cream. But what's in the IUD doesn't seem to provide enough for use throughout the body, after a few months of observation. So now my doc suggested that I take pregnenolone at bedtime, which will convert into a few different hormones as needed including progesterone. We'll see how it goes - so far so good - but at least I know one of the reasons behind my seemingly irrational behavior in the past!

Today and yesterday I rode the girls around in the bike. They like it, and I like to get the exercise even if it isn't some intense workout. I really do enjoy biking and hope to continue doing more and more of it as the years go on.

In other news - it's too d@mn hot here tonight. LOL!!

Better go so I can go eat something. Talk to you guys later.

Hey everyone- I'm here, here!!! Everyone must be baking in the heat- or in my case (in NC)- swimming, it's been raining so much!

I'm declaring to you all- so you will hold me accountable- that as of 8/1/13 I am not going to buy or eat ice cream. I won't say ever, but for at least 6 months- none. It's such a huge trigger and it's killing my past progress from last year. I'm afraid to step on the scale, but on 8/1 I am going to- and just go from there.

Had to give dd 19 an ultomato (as we call it)- either abide by our rules or be out by the end of August. She is moving out. We said if you're not in school, you will pay rent ($200). She refuses, so out she goes. I'm actually a little bit excited, as now, due to sleeping schedules, I share a hall bath with the 2 little kids, who apparently cant' brush their teeth without a half cup of toothpaste on their brushes which sticks to the sink. After dd moves out, I'll get "her" bathroom on the third floor- have plans to paint it, etc. She has just been so very disrespectful, it's time for her to shape up or ship out, and she's choosing ship out!

Mlo- have you sold your house yet? You're right about the fancy glassware- I never use it.

Shorey- you sound great with the job thing! I'm happy for you! I'd bet that the tiredness you're feeling is kind of the whoosh you get after a big event- kinda like the low after a big adrenaline rush. You've been under a lot of stress, and now it's gone....maybe, idk, LOL.

Jenga- yay for massively productive two days! I've been de-cluttering, and making a point to put everything I want to donate into my car immediately so I actually get the dang bags and boxes out of my house. It really does feel good!

So I have to figure out what I want to do instead of eat ice cream at night. Maybe write a book.

Have a great day!

Just lost my post! I can't believe I've never used my little kitten signature Depress the arrow keys for whiskers along with the "insert" sign for the 2 ears and a few periods in the middle for eyes...Sparky says it is HTML...Geesch I use it all the time on Facebook to my Feline loving pals and family!

MAR just so you know we have had 5 cats at one time...little clowns but lots of work. We are Petless at the moment...had to put down our Blackie for feline Peritonitis.

Shorey/Honey re the Paris experience. Stepping down from the Train platform a young female stepped in front of me holding up a hand printed letter saying her Father was in hospital and she needed financial assistance...I had no option but to push aside as she block my path to join Danl for our exit to get a bus! She about my size...thankfully! Then outside the Station lots of thugs with these dreadlocks milling about...we ran to bus stop and take first one not even caring the destination! Nothing like the "RUSH" of escape!

We used a Travel Agent to plan this trip...over 60 emails of options and ideas...she could have warned us! Have to behave like a New Yorker...arrogant, purposeful.

So my previous post was all about digging into Bureau and finding materials from my Goal time back in 2005...how I must have been a B!tch...bring "my own food" to cookouts, parties, etc.
Food pushers getting insulted, blah, blah.

Next week the sale of inherited Fostoria Glass...nobody uses fancy glassware anymore...casual dining is rule of the day. Figure I must have used it twice in 13 years.

Revising menu AGAIN! Broke a cap off back molar...can't chew salads...lotta tearing of raw materials. Geesch! And I just got all new provisionals in June! Reminds me of when I wore braces...had to make salads with canned veggies. OY!

Sorry this is short and choppy...now I know my "design" limitations!~mlo ....oh good iPad didn't auto-correct to read ~moo

Good Morning my peeps.

Can you believe it? I actually am quitting my job. The stress part is for the most part gone, now I just want to emoticon and sleep alot. Iím not feeling very motivated just literally feel like I have no energy at all to do anything. I slept in until 8:00 and here it is almost 11:30 and I made a good omlet breakfast and I want to sleep right now. Iím wondering because Iíve been under so much stress for the last few years now Iíve actually got a plan to end the job my body finally feels relieved. I have no clue. I figured Iíd have lots of energy or something now I've put in resignation.

MLO - Yes, being on your own side is all we have. You have been very busy. Hope all goes well with selling things and so forth.

Thereís lots and lots of gypsies. They are a bit pushy, lol. So glad no one was injured with the tree geesh. Never know when one of the big oldies will fall.

Honey - I bet youíll do fine. You travel a lot more than I; I bet you will have it all figured out. Just donít let the gypsies push on you or touch you. Especially if they want to try to tie a string around your finger to ďsellĒ you something. Itís weird. I canít remember exactly what it was for. lol.

The next 10 wks will fly right on by. Iím handling everything much better with everything going. I wish I had energy to do stuff I need to right now.

Mar - Sounds like you have been doing well on your weight training. How exciting to see your in-laws.

Nicki - pick one baby step to focus on. Like walking for 10 minutes or 10 squats while making dinner.

Jenga - Yes the date will be kept firm. He did try to propose a couple of ďother optionsĒ I kept saying we will re-evaluate in September and so forth. I know he really doesnít want to see me go. The pres. of the company even visited me, he NEVER does that. I was honest as I could be on why I am quitting without bashing the company and how I hate the field. lol.

I really do appreciate all of your support for listening to me about my job. Itís definitely a change; however, it will definitely be for the better. It took me a long time to actually do something about it; the thought of it was so far out of my comfort zone. DH and I are actually doing much better with each other. Sometimes I think some of it was so much work related. Iím expected to ďfixĒ everything and have an answer to everything and I carried that home. I know the next job will not have as much responsibility nor will I be doing tech support or customer service. If it is Customer Service it will be just a receptionist type of work with menial tasks to do. Iím good with that.

Hope you all have a great day. Iíll take Miss Honda out for a walk today. I have my grocery list to do some shopping.

Shorey, congratulations! Good for you for taking a positive step toward your own mental health. It's kind of you to stay that long to try to help the transition. Keep that date firm, ok? I know how the bosses sometimes drag their feet at finding the replacement person - BTDT. But I'm so happy that you have a path out of the soul-sucking situation.

Hi MLO! Congrats on selling your house! Must be a relief. I hope your new place brings you a lot of happiness.

WTG Honey on the stair training and the planning. You'll be glad you did all that stuff. :-)

There's probably more to say but I'm tired and need to go to bed. So I'll talk to you guys later.

So boss and I had a talk yesterday. I gave my notice and we came to an agreement that I would work for 10 more wks end of September to transition out and train person. He will start the interview process and as soon he finds someone who he feels can do the job, that person will be put on the phones immediately to take the calls and then I'll train them on computer side. I feel good about the discussion and comfortable with the decision to remain for two months. I gave my reasons about why and lack of communication and all the other things. I know it doesn't me things will change for the next person it might eventually.

Good day :)

I think we finally have summer, after a buttload of hail, lightning storms, and general crazy weather. Our neighbour's truck was struck by lightning--literally across the street--scary! No one injured, but their truck is a total write off. Big hole where the hood used to be. A lot of hail damage all around the area--fortunately our end of the city was spared that part of it.

3 more weeks and our in-laws will finally be home from Japan. Looking forward to seeing my nieces again.

Weight front--still going to the gym fairly consistently, though my weight loss stopped about a month ago. No gain, but no loss either, and no change in measurements. I think my good fortune with weight loss just from weight training has petered out--time to take it to the next level--the dreaded cardio. It will be interesting trying to tweak various things and create a consistent and viable cardio plan that won't bore me to tears. Priorities though, right? Do what needs to be done. 20-30 mins of cardio a few times a week is very easily doable and incorporate-able. Just need to be not lazy. :) Eating should be easier to tweak, seeing as how I've made some long term healthier changes that have lasted.

I love my kitty horde, but I will never again in my life acquire 5 cats at once. TOO many. Too destructive. And too busy! Sometimes I like my peace and quiet--patiently waiting until they all become lazy sleeping cats! Lol.

Goodnight
Mar

Good Morning Everyone

Another great weekend in the bag! I don't think I posted about it, but DH and I are trying to make an effort to do more fun things together over the weekend. Otherwise, all I do is work, clean the house, go food shopping, and cook.

Had a lovely day on Saturday. I got up and did a nice long walk starting with running up and down stairs at the Capitol. It was just beautiful out. Then came home and DH and I went and rented a canoe and went canoing for a bit in the afternoon. It was hard work but also fun and it was lovely to be out on the water. We were surrounded by geese and ducks who didn't seem to care about us. We are thinking about buying a canoe and I can tell it is going to take me a long time to get in good shape for that. :-) I am also not a great swimmer and not very comfortable on the water, but I am sure I will get better. We ended the evening with a nice dinner with DH's family for my FIL's birthday.

On Sunday I went to the Farmer's market and food shopping with DM and then came home and we took the dogs to swim in the river. It was such fun. Yesterday was the first time Evie swam and seemed to really get it and enjoy it. Before this she has been a bit scared of the water. It was awesome to see her have so much fun and motor around. It was also a nice hike to and from the water.

So I feel like it has been a lovely and active weekend. And the best part - NO work this weekend! A girl could get used to this. :-)

MLO and SHOREY - you are making me a little nervous about France, but I figure we'll figure it out. I have been to Germany, Greece, Israel, and Italy without a tour or speaking the language and that was all fab, so I bet France will be as well. And at least in France the names of things should be standardized - in Greece the same place might be spelled three different ways, so I never knew if I was on the right bus or not. :-) And I figure most things I want to see are easy to find - they can't hide the Louvre or Notre Dame from me. And I do trust in my guide books. Also, if all I get to do is sit at an outdoor cafe in Paris and sip my cafe au lait - I will be a happy camper.

MLO - good luck with the move! I hope it all goes smoothly. And those gypsies are something else! I have locks on the zippers of all of my pieces of luggage and purse, so no pickpockets can get in, but I have certainly felt the tugs.

SHOREY - good luck with your talk. I am hoping to hear good news from you soon. And when we lost Nemo, Roxi got needer than you could imagine.

JENGA - glad to hear you are busy working on the audio book. A very cool thing to have a gig.

We secured the last hotel reservation yesterday, and I got my renewed passport back so I am feeling totally set for our big trip. Next up, figuring out where we want to make some reservations for fancy dinners. Maybe something Gordon Ramsey in London and definitely want to go to Ottolenghi's restaurant (I have a veg cookbook from him called Plenty that is outstanding), not sure about Paris yet.

Okay, back to work!

"Be on your own side."~Eve Taylor

Why haven't I checked in? Took a contract on our home for sale! Packing, Craig's list for unwanted items, contractors for moving, fixing items from Inspection, Re-hab housing that we will move into...new carpet, kitchen cabinets, grantie countertops, finding recipes to use up all freezer items, taking canned goods to Food for Friends, blankets, towels, materials for Rescue Village Pet Rescue, trips to Box store for storage place and all the fun of changing addresses, plus trying to stay sane and continue a weight reduction plan!!!

Shorey...I did take the time to view your trip report. We went to London and Paris in 2007. A dream of a lifetime for me as my Father's side of family from Manchester, England...had so much history from Grandparents, etc. Westminster Abby...hello? Am I transported back to the most elegant time in history?

Chunnel...we took to Paris...my Danl Boone, the Cowboy not want Guided Tour! A mistake since we could not read French signs! We did get to Charles deGaule, Champs L, and Eiffel Tower all fabulous...but scary at the Chunnel Station when accosted by roaming vagabonds, not right word, sorry.gypsies...that is it! We also took river cruise.

..just get back from huge Outdoor Adventure...camping in Western Pa ...HUGE dead tree fall in front of us as we travel along high drop off to river below...actually it blew up from being rotted inside. So we skid about 30 feet and had to advance to left lane to avoid crashing into new Honda ahead of us! Female driver was freaked out, needless to say...but the tree was just full of mulch and sawdust!

Honey...San Francisco...YOWZA...my favorite destination on so many levels. More about that later, too.

AudioBooks. JENGA...my Brother is legally blind. Back in he 50's we received the original Books For the Blind...basically audio books on records. He loved to listen...fast forward to the 80's and I have terrible long commute to downtown Cleveland so found a place that rented AudioBooks for a price...sort of like a video store..

Library, Audioeditions.com, Audible and more...I listen to AudioBooks all the time, cleaning the kitchen, folding clothes, empty litter boxes,on planes (playaway) Never bored, never tired!

Shamal...hopefully by now you have found a resource to guide you toward your goals. Correct me if I'm wrong but I've never found any resource targeted to my age,limitations, demands for encouragement without whining and judgmental attitudes. So if you are successful let us know!

Oh! As I start this post...with a quote from Eve...Danl's niece is preggers and constant post on Facebook about craving corn dogs, cup cakes...blah,blah...she already gain 50 pounds and still has 2 months to go...like many young women...she has no clue about nutrition except a small flyer given out at her Doc.

"Cravings: it is only a thought and a thought can be changed."~nighthawk

Yup, been pg 4 times. The first was 46 pound gain and then I research about calories, food components, proper intake...no more off the chart weight gains. Cravings? Had them...but learned how substitutes actually do work!

Missed Shawn...bet she and DD are having a fun summer! Teens have this habit of wanting to hangout with friends more than MOM after a certain age.

I'm dealing with as Eve used to say, "time, time, time." Seem to get caught in these crunches of having to be somewhere and starving! Either I'm super hungry or I have to Pee! Lol. Gets in my way of healthy living.

More to say but DH want to catch up on TV recorded since we have been gone to Deep Woods! Which, BTW, we need to cleanup or watch all the stuff logged into the DVR since it will not transfer to next abode....OY vey!

Nite nite...see you next Sunday...a promise!~mlo

Where has everyone gone from this board? Wow....... I know everyone is busy with the awesome emoticon weather. Or do some people feel they no longer need to be here anymore?

Today Miss Honda dog and I went out on a wog emoticon this morning. Yesterday was horrible at work worked about 12 hours straight barely able to leave desk. They thought they fixed something while I was gone and well it blew up yesterday. Figured out the fix and I tested it in a live store to be sure it worked and it did. I had to dial into 45 locations and revert some files back so bottle deposits would ring up today. It was a blast....... NOT. Work is work and on Monday there will be a little chat and such.

Miss Honda is becoming a really bad whiner over things. Iím not sure if sheís lonely or what since Jazz passed away. Either way not really ready for another dog yet. Ya know.

Iíve been pretty consistent in walking, working out and logging food. I havenít been getting all obsessed about it or white knuckling anything. Iíve lost about 13 or so pounds and feel difference in joints so itís something I really need to do so I wonít have all the joint pain.

I weeded the flower bed today and cleaned the bathroom and spot cleaned kitchen. DH is over at his uncleís today twirling/raking the hay. Not sure when they will bale. I lounged out in the sunshine catching some color with sunscreen on of course and read some.

Jenga - yeah for working on the audiobook. emoticon Having a weekly conference helps give you a schedule and something to look forward to I bet. Medical issues suck in general. I really hope you figure out whatís going on and find a plan of action that will work. I know itís trial and error. Still just takes a lot of time. May it be speedy for you.

Honey - Iím so excited you are going to Europe!!! I trained with 10 pounds in my backpack that helped a lot for me at least help strengthen my back so it wouldnít be as sore. emoticon on good food choices.

Time to go check on the bbq see if dinner is done.

Have a great day.

Hi Everyone

Sorry to not be posting much. Things are super busy right now.

Here is what I am doing right: I have been increasing my running up and down stairs to get in shape for Europe. On Saturday morning I went and walked with Abby, we ran up and down stairs at the Capitol, then I went home and we drove to San Francisco for the day, where we hiked around on the cliffs above the beach, hiked down to the beach and ran around with dogs on beach for a few hours. After that we walked around SF - which was great! On sunday my calves were very sore. :-)

I am making good food choices and staying about from simple carbs (like GF crackers) and concentrating on veggies/greens and protein.

-Honey

Hi kids.

I started to post something here last night but got too tired to finish it. Now I'm thinking better of it anyway, so maybe that was for the best. :-/

So anyway, here I am. I have had too much going on to check in as often as I usually would. Some of it is work on the audiobook, and some is elusive medical stuff that unfortunately I continue to have to deal with, and it looks like I will have to continue to deal with for quite some time to come. Believe me I would so much rather that not be the case, but there it is and it does me no good to hide from it. So I am going to continue looking for answers and progress and professional support as best I can. I think I am starting to have the right professional team in place now (oh please let that be the case). The medical issues that I have going on plus kid demands and work make it difficult for me to commit to regular exercise on my own. I feel that I run a real risk of tiring myself out even more instead of making myself feel better, as happened when I took a simple walk the other day. I may need to find exercise that can be done entirely from a lying position or at the very least, seated. I'm not sure yet what may be appropriate and am probably going to need the advice of a professional, possibly a physical therapist. I just don't know yet.

On the bright side, I think that I made the right decision to remove dairy from my diet again. I'm starting to see gradual, positive changes and hope that in another month, I'll be back to where I was at the end of April before I decided to trial dairy.

One good professional thing I'm doing is participating in a weekly videoconference with four colleagues to report what we have completed and are working on, what we have upcoming and what's in our way. It's a good way to build accountability, to get motivated to actually accomplish things and report in (hello, anybody here ever noticed that before with any other groups they may have been in, hint hint). It also really helps to get suggestions about how to deal with issues you have been having, or at the very least, to vent to folks who totally get it.

I hope that you all will post a little more about what you have been up to lately as well.

Shorey, I'm sooooo glad that you enjoyed your vacation!

Sunya, happy that you are finding Duolingo fun and useful. If you are looking for clean eating/fitness motivation, maybe check out Tom Venuto's blog and groups. (Remember Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle?) I'm not sure if the forums are paid or not but they may have free forums that could be just what you need right now.

Nicki, hang in there!!! You can definitely do what you need to do to get back on track. Remember that the more you take care of you, the better everything else gets.

Honey, hope things are going well with work, exercise and vacation planning. :-)

Thinking of MLO, Shawn, Pam, Mar, Corrie, Ann - who am I leaving out? If it's you, speak up to complain. :-)

I'd better go. Gonna just veg and probably actually go to bed early - I think it would do me good.

Hope you guys have a great week!

Jenga

P.S. SHAWN -- HOLY CRAP GIRL, I just saw your new profile pic and I know this is not new to you but DD is as tall as you??!?!? Holy freakin crap. Where has the time gone??? Wow.... ;-)

Hi all! I created a blog about my trip here is the link misshondadog.wordpress.com/2013/07/0
3/
europe-trip-2013/

One thing I did notice while over seas, they have perfectly portioned food on a giant plate. This plate I swear was either 12Ē or 14Ē big, the food never took up the whole plate it was AWESOME!!! We did so much walking around. I lost about 5 pounds. It was Weigh In Wednesday for my BLC22 Midnight Mustang group. I loved the creme` boule` desert the best. I know probably misspelled.

Iím still feeling a bit tired. Iím certainly not ready to go back to work. The bits I have gathered so far they have been saving things for me. Iíve been for like 2 1/2 weeks. This is uncalled for. My boss goes on vacation next week when I get back so Iíll have to figure everything out. He will have a rude awakening once he gets back. I just think I will have the rest of this year off we will see. Hmph

Shmal - On spark people if you search there are plenty of challenge groups for exercising. May have to dig for them. I found BLC 22 before it went to private mode it lasts for 12 weeks. I think August 5th is when it ends once they start opening up for another round I can send you over the public link to see if there is a team you may be interested in joining. Good job on hitting the salad bar and opting for the 0 grams of sugar bar.

Honey - I hope your trip planning goes accordingly. London is definitely a cool place to see I wouldnít mind seeing it again only if there is a direct flight. lol.

Nicki - emoticon You are not a blob. You have a lot of crap going on right now. Try to do one thing today even if itís only a 15 min walk and drinking water. Start there okay. emoticon emoticon

Jenga - that really sucks about gluten and dairy and about the shorts. I tried on my motorcycle pants yesterday I have a pair that I fit into now. They are for winter, I donít care how hot I get in them they fit even with my kidney belt on. Wooo Hooooo.

I'm wondering if anyone has found a fitness-specific board better than this?
All of the ones I used to use when I trained 'back when' have gone away, or the founders had families or new careers or whatever and fitness wasn't their focus anymore.
I'm gearing up to get back into super-awesome shape again....! I have a whole new attitude about it and am not so interested in balance anymore, lol, I kind of want to be a little nuts about it. My son is grown, I'm going to be a grandmother this winter, I have noooooo romantic attachments, learned to feel very very happy alone, ditched all of my hippie pothead community, I have a blank slate of a life and the things in my life I had a total passion for was fitness, dance, meditation, and yoga, I'd like to somehow rebuild my life around those instead of trying to balance it with the rest of my life. I've seen with my own eyes the power of commitment, when I decide, everything else in my life flows to support that so...I'm feeling excited :)

BTW, Jenga THANK you for the Duolingo suggestion - I've been practicing Spanish with the guys at work and it's a ton of fun, they are great clowns. Es Charles un pescado? No? Es Will un pollo? No? Silly conversations :)

Thank you all for the other suggestions, too...and wouldn't you know it, things suddenly got busier at work? I was swamped this week. I've been getting overtime, woot!

WIDRT - hit the salad bar instead of the hot bar.
Put back the 10g sugar protein bar and opted for the 0g sugar.
Drank water instead of a Red Bull, lol - AND, drank a lot of water and had my protein bar instead of hitting up the candy before my therapy session, so I could be there with all my feelings, instead of sugar-numbed feelings.

I'm back on track...back in the groove, back in love with myself and rockin life, at least for today :)

Hi Everyone

JENGA - congrats on the job!! I am so happy to hear that you have some voice over work! on a related topic - have you ever listened to any of the Harry Dresden books? They are read by James Marsters (sp?) (Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and he does an unbelieveable job. Just amazing! I am listening to the first book - Storm Front (there are 14 books I think) and I have never heard anyone do such an amazing job before.

NICKI - sorry you are feeling like a blob- sounds like vacation hang over to me! I am always sad when the vacation ends and it is back to regular life. I hope you feel better soon.

I am deep in planning mode for our trip. I think I am going to be a bit obsessed for the next few months. I really love this part - dreaming about all we are going to do, trying to find the best places to eat, stay, etc. I think our first hotel in London is going to be way cool. It looks wonderful and overlooks a giant park and is very close to a Tube station. :-) It is also associated with Gordon Ramsey, so the hotel restaurant and bar is one of his. It gets rave reviews so we are excited.

WIDRY:
1. long walk, lunges and squats
2. water
3. food on plan

Here! Just kind of a blob. Not motivated, tired all the time, and know I'm eating like crap and likely that's half the reason I feel the way i do. Haven't been to zumba in like 2+ weeks, nothing really since vacation. Sigh. It's okay, it's a process and a cycle and just because I'm in a downward swing won't mean I won't be on that upward swing soon!

Sorry not much else, though I hope Shorey is having a BLAST!! And Honey, I'm jealous of your vacation plans too! :)

I am here.

Just wanted to stop by and say hi while I procrastinate a little bit on a VO project that I need to be working on. Heh.

I am going to start recording my first audiobook in a few days. (Boring nonfiction, not exciting romance novel... hehe ;-) So I have a fairly big learning curve over here. But I'm happy since it'll be my best payday so far, which is definitely welcome. Do not confuse this with "huge payday", LOL!! But it's a good step in the right direction.

Honey, how exciting about your vacation plans! I for one highly approve of you taking a two week vacation - in the strongest possible terms, actually! WOO HOO!! :-D

After trialing dairy for about six weeks, I've decided to take it back out of my diet. Sigh. Too many negative effects, including that it made my shorts that I bought two months ago no longer fit me! WTF?? That's a lot of bloating. So anyway. Bye bye to it for the foreseeable future. No gluten or dairy is kind of a pain in the @$$, to be quite frank. But I will stick with it while I try to figure out the rest of what's going on with me. I am also planning to minimize carbs again and we will see how it goes.

Ok, better get to working on my project now. Talk to you guys later.

Jenga

Hi Everyone

JENGA - hope you enjoyed your massage!

SHAWN - great idea to get the walking in while you are at the games anyway.

SHOREY - I know you are out there in Europe enjoying your trip. I can't wait to hear the details!!

NICKI - I think I am in peri-menopause as well. Sucks to be here so early!! I think the hormone thing is messing with my (lack of) weight loss.

So I have decided that I need to get into better shape before my trip. I don't want long days of walking and sight-seeing to exhaust me. Starting on next Saturday I will be meeting Abby at a place where there are stairs to walk. It is so flat here and there are no stairs, and I don't want to die when I am climbing the 400+ steps up some big tower or something. :-)

Hi you guys.

I'm just here for a quick checkin. I don't feel like I have too much to say, but when has that ever stopped me before?? LOL

Nice to see Shawn and Nicki checking in. HI !! And hi to Honey and Shorey and Sophi and anyone else I forgot.

Big Missy is doing mostly well in preschool. She tends to be rather defiant at times, so between us and the teacher, we are trying a new disciplinary approach and we shall see how it goes. I am optimistic.

I have been talking to people about how to promote my voiceover services and getting some ideas to implement. Every place is different, but there are some things that can apply everywhere so I'm hoping to get some returns on the new efforts over the next several months.

We went to Sesttle over the weekend and I won't bore you with the gory details, but we had a really good time seeing a ton of friends and I cried a lot it it was all worth it. :-) tomorrow a couple friends will be visiting us here so that will be really good.

Tomorrow I get a massage and I am soooo looking forward to that. :-D

One of these days when I stabilize with this vitamin regimen, then I wil go back to the gym but it's not gonna be too soon.

Too sleepy, gotta go. Ttyl!

Hi Everyone Ė

Mar Ė WTG on the weight loss so far this year. Sounds like you have a good plan in place for yourself.

Honey Ė yes, life around here is the usual crazy. I like the discoveries you have been making regarding food.

Nicki Ė Iím truly lucky that DD is pretty level headed and not boy crazy yet. Everyone keeps telling me that the high school years zoom by so I want to try to enjoy them with DD.

Shorey Ė Good for you for joining a group challenge. I say do whatever keeps you motivated. Yeah on getting ready for your trip.

MLO Ė love when you post. Thank you for being you.

Jenga Ė {{{HUGS}}}

Didnít plan on disappearing for the last 2 weeks. Iíve been spending most evenings going to the ball field to help close the concession stand. There are 5 of us opening and closing it. Plus Iím in charge of getting the parents to sign up to work the concession stand. The good news is I may have someone to take over being Team Parent Coordinator. If it works out, Iíll just be the Communications Director. Iíll still help out in concessions because my girlfriend is in charge of that.

DD has had basketball and softball camps for the high school in the month of June. The basketball coach has been asking her and a couple of the other incoming freshman to play in games for the sophomore team in the summer leagues. Itís cool because DD is getting practice and the coaches are getting to know her.

Havenít been doing any formal exercise with the exception of yard work. I noticed a sign at our main ball field the other day that lists how many miles it is on the track around the park. I might start walking on the track since Iím there keeping an eye on things almost every night.

GO CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS!!

Hi all, first day back from vacation! It was great- except Will (5) tripped and caught the corner of a deck chair right between the eyes on the first day and had to get 2 stitches (stitch 11 and 12 in his little life, poor critter!). He couldn't get wet for 2 days, so we did the alligator adventure attraction (a LOT of alligators all in one place, and some other critters, our collective fave were the lemurs).

So, I actually did pretty good food wise, exercise it was more than I have been doing. We went to the Battleship North Carolina, and I was totally able to go up and down the ladders, wasn't too fat to fit anything, including the little gun turrets, and so I felt good about that.

Shorey- I'm so excited for your trip!! I can't wait to hear all about it.

Jenga- I think I'm in perimenopause as well. It's weird, I have 4 kids and don't want more, but am kind of mourning the looming not being able to have kids- like now, it's my choice. At some point in the near future, it won't be my choice any more.....don't know if that makes sense.

Honey, yay for HIIT's! I need to get back on an elliptical, for sure.

Hope everyone is having a good summer, and as I have proved now twice, it really doesn't kill you to post if you're lurking!! LOL

Nicki
