I just ran across this and thought I would like to comment, although this topic is probubly mute by now.
Osteopena is a warning sign only, it is NOT osteoporosis and therefore calcium might be enough as long as she is eating properly and exercising. EVERYONE has a diffent body type and their body type will dictate the kind of treatment they follow.
Yo Yo dieting is no good for anyone, never mind anyone with health issues.
It is up to each individual to dictate what they need to do for their body.
Here's another thought, the numbers for osteopena/osteoporosis is NOT an exact science, its a set of numbers given to a bone condition by the makers of the machine who give you fosamax and other meds, the higher the number the higher the scare tactics used. The only true test for bone health is really quite simple, the condition of your nails, colour of your hair, AND your jaw - its bone too so if its shrinking, so are your other bones.... just my 2 cents on the subject .... a bone graft is always helpful too. Your bones are made up of more then what you think, its a living part of your body, just like your heart, lungs, liver, etc, so you need to care for your bones as you would any other part of your body .... nough said, thanks,
