emoticon no rain though it has been forecast for several days...therefore DH on ride with disabled Vet and I am hanging the laundry on the clothesline Currently 2 loads on the line and another in the washer . So far getting by with a fan in the livingroom and the ceiling fan at night in the bedroom. emoticon

Went to the Clinic this morning and have an eardrop medication that deals with pain and is an antibiotic to take 2x a day 12 hours apart.......if not improvement by tomorrow I have to call her to be put on something else....still hurting... emoticon

HI EVERYONE!
OUT OF THE FRYING PAN INTO THE FIRE...
FASTING LABS AND CT SCAN TODAY....I WAS STRESSING, THOUGH I DIDNT KNOW IT AT THE TIME MY FBS150. I DIDN'T SLEEP WELL LAST NIGHT AND WAS AWAKE EVERY FEW HOURS BECAUSE I WAS ANXIOUS...NOW ANOTHER WEEK TO SEE DR AND FIND OUT THE TEST RESULTS.
IF YOU HAVE GREAT WEATHER WHEREVER YOU ARE GET OUTSIDE FOR A BIT AND ENJOY WHAT WE CALL HERE OUR...LIMITED TIME ONLY DELICIOUS WEATHER!!!

You were Blessed to get to see that Special Turtle! I haven't seen my snapping turtle go through the yard yet this spring. It usually goes thru a few time each year right by my south fence line. My Chihuahua stand there jumping up and down barking. Which I am sure slows the turtle down.

The weather here has turned back off to the cooler side of spring which is okay with me. I just wished we could get more moisture in here. The Drought is taking a major toll on things.

Look who came to visit our yard today...Cuddles spied it from our French Doors and had to go out and take a look! Cuddles discovered a Blandings turtle in our yard this morning!
In other states they are endangered. They are protected in Michigan.

The last few days we have had so many birds visiting our yard or flying over it that include: lots of robins, mated cardinals, goldfinch, blue jay, bald eagle, herons, chickadee, song sparrow, cedar waxwings, heard a catbird or a mocking bird, a little blackbird don't know what it was, and the blue birds are nesting. We have more birds than the aviary around the lakes in Minneapolis! Anyone interested in birding should love Anoka County!

So far 2 dozen daffodils have bloomed plus all my forsythia bushes! Happy Mothers Day! emoticon

The leaves on the trees are the size of mouse ears!
My goals to complete this growing season:
working on getting new steps and landing made for kitchen door- our primary access to home with a gable roof overhang to protect the landing from snow & ice. Then a new driveway, aerating the lawns, bringing compost, horse manure and wood chips to the gardens, removing extra lilacs and old fashioned phlox and transplanting perennials and re-doing the daylily bed and the blue garden next to the deck.
Did you know that wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, and Queen honey bees can sting multiple times. It is only the worker honey bee that can only sting once because they have a barbed stinger that comes out as they sting and they die.

May is upon us. My Sister and neice have realized after going for the MS Walk that they are out of shape and have decided to join me on a local track three times a week for a walk. I posted the 12 week walking guide article for beginners to Facebook for them and I. I will be taking a Dachsund or Chihuahua with me for my walks. They help speed up my pace. I will walk with my Sister for a warm up and then go on walking the rest of the track which is only 0.9 miles of twists and turns and hills and valleys, lol.

What are YOU going to do to help your bones this MAY????

The Last Weekend in March. What are You Plans for the Spring and Your Health?

Mine are: #1 Make sure I am Hydrated by drinking 4 of those 20 ounce bottles of water daily.;

#2 Try to get 10 minutes minimum of Sun without any sunscreen so my body can produce Vitamin D. No more that 20 minutes and before 10 am or after 4 pm.;

#3 Eat at least 3 different fruits each day.;

#4 Walk at least 20 minutes for the pure pleasure of being able to get out there and do it each day.

#5 Share with others. emoticon

Wow! Some of You are getting your Spring cleaning done during winter. That is good, I suppose as it lets you get outside when the warmer weather comes and do things in the yard.

Trying to remember to take my Meds (Calcium Citrate, Magnesium and Zinc Plus Vitamin D3) at the appropriate times and do my PT. That is what I call my exercises to strengthen my core muscles. I have a tendency to slack off if I call them Strength training. They are suppose to be done several times each day not every other day and they were prescribed by a Chiropractor so why not. emoticon

well everyone we are way behind in preparing for Christmas. now we will have to hustle to get everything done but for today there is finish the laundry, wrapping the trunks of my trees as colder weather is coming in as we speak and , bringing in my clay pots so they don't crack in the cold weather. once i find our Christmas mugs and my advent wreath we will be lighting my advent wreath and sipping on hot spiced cider. Christmas music will be in the air and I have to prepare a ged of my Fitzpatrick line today. tomorrow fasting labs & Dr appointment before the gym.

I have cooked down the carcass and de-boned it. emoticon the meat is in the freezer and the stock is cooling outside so I can remove the fat layer. then the stock will be stored in the freezer for future use. We don't try to eat it all day after day but spread it out and enjoy it in various ways. emoticon The tree & decorations are now up too! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I worked on my yard for the past week. One of the monsoon storms split one of my trees so most of the time I was cutting up the broken into manageable pieces. I got a few bushes trimmed, too. I've got to finish cutting up the tree then rent a truck and haul it all to the dump.

This interrupted my plan to fix the bathroom wall. My DH had fallen and now there is a head sized dent in the wall. I've bought all the necessary supplies and they are staring at me from the corner. I should finish the yard stuff mid week and have the wall fixed by the weekend. Then I have to decide what color to paint the room.

I had my DEXA test the other day and am hoping it shows my disease has not advanced. And that I can still do stuff like this. I should have the results some time next week.

I am so motivated to walk these days. I walk/trot on my treadmill while I look out the window at a beautiful day. However, it is still so hot here - hovering at or above 110 - that I just can't go out. By the time i'd wrap myself up in my sun screen clothes, I would be panting in distress. So, I'm gonna figure out how to make our TV connect to YouTube and call up some dancing tapes. (I know I can because I've done it before. I have to haul out the user manual.)

Maybe late afternoon I can work on me totally overgrown bushes and trees. I want to get outside!

Very Very hot here! Going to be spending most of today indoors. So far today did more Work on another part of the veggie garden fence. Hoeing & weeding today and finishing the laundry! Going to make a tuna salad today with avocado instead of mayo or salad dressing and sun-dried tomatoes.
Plants blooming zucchini, tomatoes, pumpkins, monarda aka beebalm, roses, hydrangea, , lilies, clematis,and liatris aka blazing star is starting.

I also sent out a team message about this in case members aren't following this chat thread.

I have a FitBit and I have a question out to the FB team. In reading the description, it wasn't clear to me whether SP will ignore any exercise tracked on SP once this change is made. most people track strength training, swimming (since the FB isn't water proof), and any other activity that doesn't provide the walk like body movement in SP. More experienced members of the team find those activities more accurately measured in SP so recommend this "track different activities in different places" approach so, it'll be interesting to hear what others think.

Spark is changing their fitness and food tracker to be more in sync with the activities of real life. Once you switch over to the new tracker you can not switch back. If your wanting to test it without worrying about switching back, they recommend creating a 2nd account and then if you do not like it, close that account. I think this could have been handled better, and will make a suggestion for future updates.

The new trackers are suppose to be able to tell you the number of calories based on your activities of the day - so if your real busy one day, and not the next, the number of calories required would change to reflect that.

Anyone with a fitbit will not have a problem because the fitbit is based on a 24 hour day and how busy you are already.

All new members will have no choice but to accept the new way of tracking.

If anyone switches let me know what you think.

Anyone with food or not tracking calories should not switch over, but again its personal option.

Hope everyone is having a good night out there I need antoher 1000 steps to get in. Cheers !!

Actually, water is not normally restricted with kidney disease. However, it's that balancing act too little and they can't flush out the bad stuff. Too much and they are too busy drowning to work.

So, I follow the pee color/smell tests to decide how much more/less I need at that point. Everyone is supposed to do that, I just pay more attention to it. I drank about 8 cups during the drive and another liter when I got home. I was very tired of peeing!

Hope everyone has recovered from their holiday activities! What did everyone do? My DH and I usually don't do anything on this holiday; we boob tubed all day

Well, our heat in Phoenix has been brutal. I drove home yesterday from San Diego; 6 straight hours at 117! My car is 9 years old (wow, where does time go when it's flying by?) with a putt putt engine so I kept the air off as much as I could without opening the windows.

(After 45 MPH, open windows suck gas mileage cuz the aerodynamics are all screwed up. Another piece of trivia for you...)

I was soaked and wrung out by the time I got home. No umph to jump on the treadmill, so it was only a thousand step day.

Oh, and I got a ticket for 85 in a 70 zone. Oops.

I have black out curtains that keeps my part of the apartment cool but can definetely feel the difference when I step out into the other part. Also have a huge fan I can turn on and cool it instantly and my son has his air conditioner that he runs from time to time but he likes heat so should be ok.

Stay hydrated too as best you can - and fill the tub with cold water and wade in it when you feel real hot ....

My yard looks terrible. I have weeds growing out of my bushes and throughout the gravel walkway. It is just too hot. With all my sunscreen clothes on and activity, I'm beet red and panting in minutes. We are heading into record breaking heat this weekend (115+) - it's just too much. I've closed my curtains and am letting nature take it's course.

evening everyone,
we just came in from burning off more brambles, dead rose canes, pine branches, etc.
remember when i said i went wheat free and didn't have vertigo anymore? well, yesterday while on our trip i was...as my grandson says...glutened! the only thing i had that could of been a problem was some fries with a hamburger without bun, lettuce & tomato at a restaurant. i asked ahead of time and they said no wheat in the fries...i told dh they appeared like they might have wheat...i.e. some people dust the fries in flour to make them crisp. but i was assured no wheat...and since then headache and some vertigo. i surely hope this doesn't last because i have glorious weather to work in my gardens and i need to look down without a problem...it started as i was at the computer...so hoping it is working itself out of my system

Actually 2 or 3 lbs weights will do in sets of 10 reps and not planned, do them occassionally, a can of something can sub or a water bottle. Take it slow breath in curl breath out curling up ... in on release I always get that mixed up...

yes being active helps, our bones were not ment to sit ....

Definitely Low carb has helped...I have 45 ' meal and 15 per snack. Carrying wet laundry up the stairs and hanging on the line also burns calories and keeps my blood sugar down. While my osteoporosis is very bad...doing the things I do helps it..I may never lift heavy weights but laundry, groceries, Cuddles...well she is pushing it at 50 lbs...thankfully I don't have to lift her too often.

Good for you and of course low carb has helped immensely with this, true?? Low carb is not so bad, think of all the nutirients you get from green leafy plants that dont' come in a tin !! Better for the bones for sure !!

Hi, everyone! I got good news and bad news on the medical front this week. I had a chest xray just as a standard test and they found a spot. Thump thump goes the heart of this 35 year smoker (quit 6 yrs ago). We do a CT Scan and send me off to a lung doctor.

When I was 25 my lung collapsed. I was sitting watching TV and the next moment I couldn't catch my breath. After a zillion questions from a bazillion docs, nobody knew why. I worried about it happening again for several years. But, it didn't happen and I quit thinking about it. I still write it out on every medical history form, though. So I was telling the lung doc about this before she reviewed the CT Scan.

She looked at the scan and told me the lesion was nothing. Good news! She decided it's scar tissue from a cold or something like that.

Bad news! She found the reason my lung collapsed. I have this 'dead area' at the top of my lung - the tissue isn't absorbing oxygen anymore from the air so it just kind of sits there in this pocket. Almost no one gets these things. And most of them never know they have it or have a problem with it. However, sometimes they leak - bam. Down goes the lung. (When your lung springs a leak, the air settles between your lung and chest wall. Once it's out there, your lung can't take in any more air because it's squished.)

She thinks that is probably what happened then. AND, the going forward bad news is that I should be paying attention to air pressure for cripes sake. If I had ever gone sky diving or scuba diving, it probably would have collapsed again (wouldn't THAT be bad timing!) Air planes ok. Hiking in Denver not ok. Hiking around Phoenix OK (elevation 1,100). Driving up to Flagstaff (9,000 feet) without a mid-way stop for my lung to acclimate not OK.

It blows me away that I have been very very lucky that something hasn't happened since 1978!

The heat has arrived and rain expected so that limits my time in the garden. emoticon
emoticon In the garden for 3 hours so far today
I am watering the veggie garden right now, and the day lily garden isn't finished BUT I will take some photos tonight IF the rain doesn't prevent me from doing so and add them to my page.

1. I have so many day-lilies to move. And
2. My hostas that are under the apricot tree. we are re arranging some of my beds so it is easier to mow. The hostas will go in the windbreak by the fairy house i plan to do.
3. I have lilacs to move to continue the row in front of the windbreak, south side as I add rhodos to the north side.
4. Also adding lilacs along one side of my vegetable garden
5. Making a fence around my blueberries
6. Re-doing the garden fence
7. Transplanting a lot of lily of the valley too!
etc. etc. keeping busy and I have tons of pruning emoticon deadwood and those rascally brambles to pull so I am keeping busy emoticon

I have a small bush area around my bedroom window - it has a tree, teacup roses and another bush of some kind to try and keep this part of the building shaded - no problem. Someone on the upper floors are throwing their vegetables ( some still have the orangic yellow band on them ) into the garden - how sad - we dont' have a compost and that 's not the way to do and if I open my window I do NOT want to smell wrotting veggies and fruits so I'v reported it to the building manager ... besides it will atract rodents or raccoons.

Good going on your garden work Dusty, remember to stop and stretch those muscles some, I am sure they tighten from the repetitive work !!

420 minutes....tilling, raking and putting veggi garden in...and tomorrow I move the day lily garden to a sunnier location...then back to fighting brambles.

I am glad the veggie garden is tilled and planted

7 hours....the zucchini, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, cilantro, basil, yellow squash, romaine lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower and cantaloupe are all in

Cuddles out now off to bed...rain expected tomorrow afternoon and i have the daylily bed to get done. Will stretch before the day lily bed tomorrow.

i am sore in places i didn’t even know i had! today is a slow day i will do the weekly laundry and get it on the clothesline. sure today is suppose to be sunny and rain again tomorrow as we finish the deck.. oh well we work with what we have. a dr
appointment and lots of phone calls to deal with so back to it.

check out the photos of the deck because i will be removing them shortly so i can share the tree removal area in our windbreak where the fairy house will go.


full day of laundry on the clothesline including our bedsheets & towels. also have to finish removing the rest of the pine branches from the windbreak area, cut up the limbs and gather pine needles for my blueberry bushes. this will keep me busy for several hours after the dr appointment.

Today, I feel human for the first time in at least a week. I had a stay-in-bed cold that just wouldn't quit. I was trying I get as many doc appts in as I could before 6/1 because our health insurance is changing. Before, pay a $35 copayment to see a doc. Now, they only
Pay80% AFTER we meet a $3000 deductible. I had to cancel 3 appts due to this cold.

One missed appt is for a chest CT. When I was at my family doc's office the week before, a chest X-ray shows a lesion on my lung. They don't think it's anything important - just need to be sure. Unsettling even still.

emoticon Good Morning Team...
I am sore BUT not as sore as I would imagine after so much time in the last two days working outside.guess while I am using muscles I usually don't use I am kinda like a car and burning away the carbon from my system..and while I enjoy being in my gardens I really want to get to the gym and in the pool for some nice less impact on my body exercise. Have a lot of tree branches to deal with emoticon before I do that.

Our felling trees is just the end result of insects, disease as secondary causes of drought for years. Trees become attractive to both when stressed and drought is a stressor. Check my page to see my windbreak...I removed two pines that grew between my black hills spruce and blue spruce.
I hope to put a fairy house, or two in their place and move some hostas there to make a shade glen.

For the most part yes, but eating is at the way side, hope to nip that in the bud - have not been taking my vitamins iether - took a break from them all - no more constipation !! BUT I have to get back to the bone building exercises, I can see a difference since not doing them!

Yes interesting but most Dr.s will not promote health that way, there's no kick back for them in eating healthy - more kickback in prescribing drugs !!!

Thanks for that, LindieMae. Interesting! Over and over, no matter what the illness, the #1 thing to do is create a healthy lifestyle.

Oh how nice I know of two other sparkers who meet and walk at a mall once a week all the time, and sometimes if the weather is nice, they will walk at a near by park !! Sure hope you two can meet up - the encouragement for both of you would be rad !!

If you go to road runner park, then I live close by. Maybe we can meet at PV Mall for an afternoon stroll? You can rest when you need to on the benches. If I want to do more I can continue when you are resting and come back around and get you up again. Waddaya think?

I am in PT working on strength and balance a lot. I can use a cane when I feel secure but still use the walker. If I walk outside I use the walker. I have 6 more PT sessions and then am on my own.

There is good and bad information out there about this condition as everyone wants to make a buck and get rich off it. A well balanced meal of threes servings of non starch veggies and fruits to 1 serving of protein is a start, good sourced or food sourced vitamins is another and those should have the 18 nutrients and vitamins needed to build bone. Take your time healing so you do not have a set back and have to wait longer - you'll be walking again sooner then you think. Use weights to exercise your muscles - and if you had surgery, follow your surgeon's advise. Have they set you up for physio therapy? You need to keep them informed on what you can or canna do. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Come here as often as you need for support or just to talk about how you are feeling. We will support you in your progress and may make suggestions from time to time but in the end, all decisions are yours. Cheers :)
