REDGLITTER - I wear my pedometer most days as well, especially on those days when I know I am going to be doing a lot of walking, and it really helps. Good for you - keep it up!

I am doing much better and thank you Steph for the encouraging words. I have been wearing my pedometer at work and walking whenever I can. I know I will get through this episode and back on the exercise track. I will read that post you made for me Steph and what a great idea...thanks Velvet and Steph you are WOAM rock stars.

REDGLITTER,

Remember, you were one of March's Breakthrough Women on a Mission. You can breakthrough this rut. I would like for you to go back to the Breakthrough WOAM stories and scroll down to the short story I wrote about you. This is just a bump in the road for you in your weight loss journey. You are well able to overcome this! You've done it before, you can do it again. Stay motivated! Just Do it! Your strength will return to conquer any obstacle that comes your way. Remember, you are a woman on a mission and you can do it! Be encouraged, my sister! Stay strong!

Sincerely,

Steph

Thanks guys I really appreciate you! Velvet I wish I had an answer to that wonderful response but thank you for asking. I will try the list method Sudden it sounds encouraging, thank you. I purchased a book called The insulin resistance diet, I have heard good things about it so thought I'd give it a try. It's a little South Beach without the phases and healthy.

Redglitter,
Maybe if you make a list of reasons why you wanted to exercise and lose weight and how good you felt when you did, it might motivate you?

I'm having the same problem :(. I can't seem to bounce back from my injury when I couldn't exercise for a couple of months. Now that I can the motivation has gone out the window. It is frustrating because I really want to be good and work out and was doing so well before. I just need to focus once again and get up off my tush and walk.

Weird.
I get my SP messages on my "home email" (health reflections, etc). But, I never get any notifications (notifying me that I have SparkMail, Comments to my Blog, Reply to a Post, etc.) Maybe SP just can't keep up with it all.

Sue,
I've noticed that I haven't gotten all of my mail notices lately. I do get some, but sometimes I check and there's new mail. Maybe there's just such a big response SP can't keep up. I noticed that sometimes the site is quite slow.

Hi SUEALOHA - I'm not sure how the 100 day challenges work but I do think each one is different. The only thing I can say for sure is that you have to make the 100-day commitment to the challenge, whatever it is. And yes, my SPARK MAIL notfications do work, I usually get a notice in my inbox with a link to click on when I have a new SPARK MAIL message. The email will be from SPARKPEOPLE MAILER and the subject line will be A NEW SPARKMAIL MESSAGE.

Steph, it's so great to see you posting. I can totally relate to feeling out of control! I've had A LOT going on the past week, and while I haven't totally abandoned my healthy lifestyle, I haven't been exercising consistently or journaling. And, I just feel out of control.
I like the idea of tiny decisions and rewards. And, I think that book sounds good. My head needs some serious retraining.

While we're at it, can someone point me to how these 100 day challenges work? I'm totally lost.. Also (if you're still reading, as I hijack Steph's post), do people's mail notifications work? Mine doesn't and I tried the troubleshooting recommended, and it still doesn't work.

Thanks!
Sue

I like the idea that you're organizing things better for yourself - I have to do the same thing. I've been in kind of a rut myself, lately, I haven't felt like I've been in control, either, but I'm going to get it back, and so will you, TEXASSTEPH! emoticon

VELVETCATT,

I'm slowly getting it back together. Part of the problem is that I'm so overwhelmed at work and when I get home, I don't want to do anything. I bought a new planner and made out my To Do Lists and spent this morning organizing my work area. I feel so much more in control in that area, so the food control is coming next.

Tomorrow morning, I have my appointment with my diet coach and am looking forward to talking all this through with her. I missed the last 2 sessions because I felt so out of control and frustrated.

Everyone's support means so much! This is an awesome, awesome group.

Steph,

I completely relate to what you're saying. Do not get discourage. Start with one thing and focus on that. For example, if you want to focus on increasing your vegetable intake, then focus on that only for a few weeks. I heard that it takes 21 days to create a habit. So, maybe for the remainder of this challenge focus on one challenge for 21 days and see how that works for you! Much success to you on your weight loss journey!

Thanks all. Everyone has made great points! I sat down tonight and made some priority lists and scheduled some things, including exercise.

Sandra, I'm going to look up the Becks book, it sounds like it could be helpful.

You guys are great!

Steph,
As said before "been there, done that" time and time again. This time just seems to be different and I think the thing for me has been my purpose. Before I was "trying" to lose weight because I felt like I should or just didn't want to be large, however, I didn't want that more than I wanted to be lazy and eat anything I wanted. This time is different though because I reached a point where I was actually afraid I was going to have some serious healthy problems if I didn't lose some weight. So I began again, determined that this was it -- It was coming off!! One day when I was searching Spark Teams I found a team based on a book called "The Beck Diet Solution"; what she helps you do is to retrain your brain to want to lose weight, eat healthy, exercise, take good care of yourself. Instead of feeling like I was being deprived of what I wanted to do -- my thinking changed so that what I want to do is eat healthy, exercise and take care of myself. It's been 6 weeks and I'm still not struggling to do this. I don't want sweets or junk -- they make you feel icky!

I'm not sure this book would help you (it probably wouldn't hurt) but I'm saying you have to find your purpose. Spend some time goal setting; make your motivational poster. One thing we had to do is make a list of "Advantages to losing weight" and read it twice (at least) every day to remind ourselves what we want to achieve. It helps to work for something, instead of just to lose weight.

It worked for me; hope it helps you! Hang in there!!

All great advice. When I'm stressed, I pray. It helps me relax so I can think straight and put my priorities in order. after that I set small goals and like Nike said I "Just do it"

I can certainly understand. It's so hard when you get stuck in a rut- you can never seem to work your way out of it.

For me, small, short term goals are easier to deal with when I'm stressed. You might try to set a TINY goal for yourself, just to give yourself some success to encourage you to move forward. Like walking for 10 minutes each night, or 5min. of stomach exercises each morning. Do it for a week, and give yourself a reward for staying with it. If you wake up in the morning, or come home from work & don't want to do it- do it anyways. You can whine & gripe & complain the whole time, but just DO IT- it's only 5-10 minutes, and while it can seem like forever, it's also that much more encouraging to yourself after you've made yourself go through with it. Plus, you can tell yourself it's only for a week- don't make yourself any promises for after that week.

We all get into ruts- hopefully you can find something to help you back out of it. Good luck!!

The advice from both these ladies is very good. There are always going to be times when "life" gets in the way of the things we want and/or need to do, but we can't give up. Hang in there - you are not alone!

Don't give up been there done that myself. I work outside the home and have two kids that do many sports. This year I commited to put me first. I started walking while my kids practice their sports and even during their games instead of just sitting the whole time. You have to remember if you do not take care of yourself first, you can not take care of others. Spend sometime this week planning your day and scheduling time for you. It many be hard at first but I am sure you will start to enjoy the me time.

Sometimes we become so overwhelmed with everything else that's going on that we find it hard to have time for us. Take a deep breath, and write in a journal. Collect your thoughts and set one goal a month. That should get you back on track.

Good Luck!

IF I CAN DO IT SO CAN U!

Urg....I started this challenge with such good intentions and then life got in my way. How does everyone deal with the daily stresses of life and still find time to eat properly and exercise? I get so overwhelmed and immediatley give up my good intentions.

This is the first time I have logged in to Spark in over 2 weeks. I haven't been on the scale in that same amount of time. I can feel the difference in my weight...the comforts soft drinks, sugar and mexican food will do that to you. Every day, I think, I am restarting today and I don't. Honestly, I have been in this do welll for a few days, fall off for a few weeks since the first of the year.

I heard that admitting you have a problem is the first step...I'm open to hearing from anyone on how I can get to a mindset that sticks for me!

Thanks for letting me whine!
