Good advice, Steph - my neighbor was talking to me about the same thing as far as changing up my exercises so I've started doing that, hoping for some change.

I AM THE SAME WAY RED! WE THINK THAT BY EATING AT THE LOWER END OF OUR CALORIE RANGE AND DOING ALOT OF EXERCISE WE WILL LOSE QUICKER, BUT LIKE STEVEBEE SAID SOMETIMES YOUR BODY NEEDS MORE CALORIES TO KEEP UP THE EXERCISE.

I WAS GOING TO DO THE EXACT SAME THING STEVIEBEE IS DOING AND I KNOW SOME PEOPLE CALL IT ZIGZAG EATING.
EATING LOWER CALORIES ON SOME DAYS AND HIGHER ON OTHERS.
A GIRL AT THE OFFICE WHO DID THAT, SHE WENT BY WEEKS, THOUGH, FOR INSTANCE SHE WOULD TAKE IN 1200-1400 EVERYOTHER WEEK AND THEN GO TO 1600-1800 ON THE ODD WEEKS....SHE LOST 50 POUNDS IN 6 MONTHS!!!

AND YES THE SECOND THING IS TO CHANGE YOUR EXERCISE ROUTINE EVERY 6-8 WEEKS.

IF WE WERE TO START LIVING THE "TRUTH" THAT OUR BODIES ARE TEMPLES THAT GOD GAVE US, HOW WOULD YOU TAKE CARE OF IT??

REDGLITTER,

I was in a serious 4-mth. plateau until I played around with my calorie intake. I would eat at the low end on some days, then on the high end. I ended up losing 6 pounds in one month. Also, look at your exercise routine. If you haven't changed it in about 6 weeks, then it is time to do so. If you walk, maybe add some hills. Our bodies are quick to adapt to our exercise routine. Even if you do strength training, go up in weights! Even with your eating! So, change it up a little bit. Shock your body!

I hope this helps!

Losing it slowly is the best way according to the doctors I've been going to. MSUMOMMA makes a good point and I had to laugh when I read it - "eat at the high end of your range and enjoy it!"

I agree with Michelle! I've been losing very very slowly because I don't want to deprive myself just to lose fast and then have to fight so hard to keep it off later. I say, eat at the high end of your range, and enjoy it! emoticon

REDGLITTER - I'm where you are, and what SKHANNA123 wrote is the solution I turned to as well. I decided not to focus so much on what the scale says, but on how my clothes feel (looser) and how I feel. If I let the scale dictate my progress, I'd have given up some time ago and I refuse to have a defeatist attitude, so you hang in there, girlfriend! I do some form of strength training every day, too, and it feels good, so you keep doing your thing!

I really appreciate the advice and I am going to check out the resource center right now. I don't want to lose weight too fast but one lb in 3 weeks in just not right :). Thank you so very much to both of you great gals!

I edited my post to add one of the snipits of an article I just read it was just what I needed:

Suppose someone has cut calories, but still hits a plateau. Is it possible that she may need to eat more calories to lose weight?
Itís possible. If youíre not eating enough, your body sort of panics and goes into whatís known as Starvation Mode, slowing down your metabolism and fat-burning processes. If itís being starved of calories, it has to hold onto all of the energy stores and calories that it can. Think of your body as a furnace. If thereís not enough fuel, the fire just simmers for a long time without really burning hot. If youíre not eating enough calories to match your activity level, your body just simmers and no real progress is being made. The danger is that people react to this type of plateau by eating even less, which of course just makes the problem worse and harder to recover from. Itís a horrible cycle that can lead to real problems.

I would suggest going into the Resource Center tab and searching for the word "starvation" and see what they have to say. It's possible that your body is hording fat because you're exercising and your calories are so low, but it's better to find out from those who know what they're talking about! Go to the experts and see.

I'm losing weight very slowly (avg 3lb per month), but that's a choice I made because I don't want to go to such a low number of calories that my body goes into starvation mode; I'm strength training and running and want to have the "fuel" to be able to keep doing it. I also want to be able to sustain this lifestyle for a lifetime, which I believe for me would be harder if I was at such low calories right now.

That's Great!! You must be gaining muscle with all this exercise.

I have stopped weighing myself and instead use fat loss every month as a measure of weight loss and not the scale. You are on the right track and JUST DON'T GIVE UP!!

Good luck.

Thanks SKHANNA123 I do strength training 3 times a week. Actually I started at the beginning of the May/June Challenge. I also do cardio most everyday, walking on an incline treadmill for 30 minutes or Tai Chi for almost 40 minutes (which I love).

Hi, I am in the same boat!!! However, as you wrote, I am not going to get discouraged and stop following my regimen of exercising and eating 1200-1400 calories. I feel great when I don't stuff myself and exercise 5-6 times a week. Are you doing strength training? If not, try to include it into your schedule. Again...keep doing what you are doing and you WILL LOSE BODY FAT AND WEIGHT.... emoticon

Hey there Spark pals:

I have a question for any and all of our savvy team members. I am losing weight very, very slowly and I don't get it. I measured this morning and the only body part that has slimmed was my neck. What I am thinking is that because I exercise regularly and stay within my low end range caloric wise (which is 1200) maybe my body has gone into starvation mode. I don't know if this is the case or not but that scale should be moving. I am stumped and to be honest getting discouraged. No I am not stopping by any means but losing the weight is the goal and it's not working as it did when I started. Any advice is very much appreciated.
