I'm inching out of a plateau now. I was stuck between 179-182 for four weeks. I'm now at 179.5 and have decided not to step on the scale for a couple of days. I did several things to try to bust out of it.

1) The zig zag diet which calls for eating a bit more than your weight maintenance calorie level 2-3 days every couple of weeks or once per week.
2)Doing a superset of weight training once a week ... you use much heavier weights but only do 3 reps.(All I did was get tendonitis) emoticon
3) The third thing I just started last weekend. I bought a heart rate monitor ( Omron ~ $30) and am making sure that I'm working out hard enough and staying in the zone (It turns out that I wasn't..was way below)

I read an article that claimed that many women drop pounds in "spurts". You have a period of time where there is no change in weight and then a sudden drop. I'm hoping that is the case with myself.

The best way to overcome hitting a plateau is to eat different amount of calories everyday. Lets say, if you try to stay at 1200 calories per day you might want to eat 700 one day and then 1800 the next day a long as you average out 1200 for the week. This way your body is fulled into not knowing how many calories are coming your way so it does not adjust to one particular amount that it needs to burn off or store.

I am going to start the Eat Clean lifestyle. There's a book by Tosca Reno titled The Eat-Clean diet. However, it's not a diet, it's more of a lifestyle diet. I do not only want to lose weight, but I want to be healthier. So, I am going to incorporate some of those points from the book into my eating.

Much success to everyone!

LADYWITHABABY - I think we've all been there with the plateau thing, but please dont give up. You've worked too hard and come too far. I've read the other posts and I think everyone has some really great ideas about mixing up the workouts and the eating habits. Shaking things up a bit may be just the ticket, so give it a shot. I'm going to do the same thing because I believe it's gonna work. Hang in there!!

These are great ideas. I am going to have to incorporate some of these, because I want to continue to drop these pounds!

Thanks for sharing!

Definatly try the mixing up the workout and meal plan. I had also hit a plateau and broke it in march. The scale hadn't budged in so long and I got discouraged and ate 2000 calories one day and the next day I collected myself and had discipline and ate 1200 calories well the next morning I lost a lb. Just like that. I then mixed up my workout routine always alternating different cardio and changing my strength exercises. I always worked out the same muscles just not the same way. I broke through my plateau and lost 6lbs last month. Hope this works for you.

Loved the tip about eating at the low end of your range for a couple of days, and then at the top. Thanks a lot!

Change up your schedule! I hit a plateau about a month back, and when I did different workouts and changed my meal plan a bit, the scale actually budged. I'm not sure if that will work for you, but I hope whatever you try gets you back in the groove.

MINI GOALS!
Jan. 30: 140 pounds
Feb. 13: 138 pounds
Feb. 27: 136 pounds
Mar. 13: 135 pounds

Ladies,

I completely understand about this crazy plateau business. I was at a plateau for months and not really understanding why. In addition, I was trying to remember what the heck I did 4 years ago, when I lost about 40 pounds. I decided to get back to eating more often as well as really tracking what I ate. I had to be completely honest with myself, particularly when it came to my eating habits. I knew it wasn't the fact that I did not workout, because I worked out all the time. I even changed up my workouts. So, it had to be my eating. Finally, in March, I broke my plateau. I think I like the concept of eating low calories a few days and then eating at the upper end of my range. I am going to try that after April's challenge. I am going to make that range probably 1400-1700 calories. I just made some adjustments and finally 6 pounds came off in March! This is what worked for me!

Hugs to us both and we'll get over this plateau...... I'm w/ya, girl!!! emoticon

Awwww I'm sorry you are feeling discouraged. I can definitely relate & think probably most people can. Have you read any of the spark articles on plateaus and their tips to get beyond it? Making changes by either eating a little less or a little more, or changing the type of exercises etc. are some ideas. Just please don't quit or give in your emotions!!! What can I do to encourage you??? We have to help each other!!

I have been so discouraged this week because for the second week in a row I have not had any progress in weight loss, inches loss, bodyfat...nothing.

I've been big time stressed out that I only have a couple more months until my goal month and if things come to a standstill like this I'm afraid it won't happen.

I'm a huge recovering stress eater so all of this is really putting me on edge and wanting to sail straight to the kitchen to "fix it"

I feel so discouraged with this plateau business. I've made a lot of progress so far but I've still got a long way to go.
Boo hoo for today.
Now I've got this defeatest attitude about it and for the second day in a row I have not gotten up for my am workout...I gotta snap out of this FAST!
