DARKANGEL5055,
I HAD THE SAME FEELINGS TOWARD SMALLER PORTIONS IN THE BEGINNING BUT NOW IT IS NORMAL. THE SMALLER PORTIONS HELP ME TO STAY FULL THROUGHOUT THE DAY WITHOUT EVER GETTING REALLY HUNGRY AT ANY ONE TIME.

Saved1,
Too bad it feels like 6 meals turn into snacks instead of actual meals. It could be a mental block I have towards smaller portions. =)

DARKANGEL5055,
I AGREE THAT EATING 5-6 SMALL MEALS THROUGHOUT THE DAY HELPS TO CONTROL CRAVINGS AT NIGHT.

I am working on controlling my cravings. Possibly thinking of something else to do in place of eating when I shouldnt be eating. I am also working on cutting down portions. Tough...

Short term goal: 300 Min of Cardio per week

Stopping to eat after a certain time is tough. I found that it helps if I eat constantly through the day then I don't get those EVIL cravings at night.

I'm working on trying not to eat after 8-9pm. I'll do good for a short time but then something happens and it throws me all off schedule. It's so frustrating because I really want and need to do this! emoticon

It is impressive but GOD I need the will power to do it =), we all do.

Praying does help to stay on track.

Yeah, I always forget a multivitamin too, so that's something else I have to add =)

It never actually hit me that it takes 21 days to form or break a habit. Steph thanx for reminding me what it takes =).
So the things I will work on for the next 21 days are:
1. I will try and not have snacks replace my meals
2. I want to eliminate all the prepackaged foods from my diet (as in snack bars, meal replacement bars, frozen meals, etc.)
3. I want to stop eating "on the go"

I have problems with the stress/emotional eating from time to time as well. It's probably one of the biggest obstacles I face with losing weight, but I am determined to not let that keep me from focusing on my goal. When I do give in to it (and its a lot less frequent than it used to be), I don't beat myself up over it like I used to, but I do increase the exercise to try to offset it.

My issues right now are emotional/stress eating. I crave sugar and carbohydrates like nothing I've ever seen.

My other one is that I don't see results fast enough so I assume what I'm doing isn't working and try to find "something else".

Even though I've lost 4 clothing sizes since Thanksgiving I don't feel like I LOOK any different at all. The clothing fit says otherwise but I still see myself being the size I was after I gave birth to my son 10 months ago.

So I guess mine are giving up on myself when it IS working and stress/emotional eating.

I'm starting a five day fast with a few friends next week (just 5 days) where we are going to eat only one meal a day (breakfast), no bread, only grits or oatmeal or raisin bran cereal or special k, turkey bacon or sausage, eggs. Also can only have one serving of fruit or veggies per day. Must have a minimum of a gallon of water in addition to any other beverages you may drink. And we must do a minimum of 45 minutes of cardio each day - sounds like fun, huh?

My 2 biggies right now are eating better on the weekends when I am with my skinny husband and taking a multivitimin and folic acid everyday. I am finally in control of my eating until full, and my finances...that was a biggie! I am also in control of my recycling habits finally. That sounds strange, but since I am moving to another city, I have been very lazy about finding the recycling center in my new town. I just happened to find it while out driving yesterday, so now I have set up my recycling box. Good luck everyone!

Seems like I'm always working on the same few things...

1) Learning to manage the weekends. I'm great on weekdays, but am more lax once Friday afternoon comes.

2) Planning ahead for social events and time with my boyfriend. That's when I tend to eat and drink more than I normally would.

3) Finding better ways to manage my stress. I'm a major stress eater. Exercise helps, but when I'm really stressed I suddenly find myself wanting to eat a house.

XOXO, good luck with quiting! I quit almost 2 months ago and I am soooo glad I did! I am really sticking to it because I know that if I resort back to it I won't be able to workout anymore and I won't lose weight!

The 2 habits I would like to work on are:

1) Not letting myself miss a workout because "I just don't feel like it".

2) Try more foods. I have always been a picky eater and just need to STOP!

Do2Heal and Tammy, instead of cold water have a cup of hot water, like tea without the tea bag. You can have the water a room temperature too. It doesn't burn as much calories but neither does one glass of water. I find that since its so cold here also I'm drinking more and more room temp. water, something I could never stomach before. Good Luck ladies!

I have many to work on but here a few.

I have ran across an articule(excuss me but I'm a sort of researcher since being diagnosed with diabetes)I drive my hd crazy but I can't help. I want to know how to defeat this disease and It's my battle for life. I found that some people think health drinks are good for you: diet colas, drinks like gator aid, sports drinks have added sugar and salt I don't drink them but some do. The best things is plain old water.

1. I don't drink enough water. I really struggle except when it is hot outside.

2. Late night eating. Need to stop and have a cut off time.

3. I'm am a night owl. Need to work on this badly.

I have too many habits to work, but I'll narrow them down to two that I can do for the next 3 weeks.

1) I need to get more fruit and vegetables in my diet.

2) I need to get in 10 glasses of water everyday, it's been really hard since it's so cold here in Michigan, the last thing I'm craving is a cold glass of water.

Great thread!

I'm working on drinking more water. I've bought 2 new water bottles and a variety of Crystal Light flavors and am trying to drink at least 80 ounces a day. I just have to plan for bathroom breaks and am learning the location of every bathroom stop on my hour drive to and from work (LOL).

I'm also trying to do better with eating fruit for snacks and keeping carbs low. Still a challenge there.

I am working REALLY hard at planning ahead. With four kids, this is TOUGH! I know that when I plan ahead - I tend not to snack or over eat.

I am also trying to break the negative self talk habit. If I slip up - it doesn't mean I'm a failure - it just means I slipped up. I tell myself to "get back to it and move forward".

You are terrific Steph one good idea after another:

I need to balance my meals, I have a problem at work wanting to snack so I need to cut out those 100-calorie bags snacks and stick to fruits and veggies. I don't have this problem at home but at my desk I enjoying nibbling.

Great Idea ! ! !

1) I need to stop obsessing over the scale and that number. Just not healthy

2) I need to use my calories more wisely. I need to eat more fruit and veggies. I need to reach my min. calorie range with food - real food and not have 200- 300 calories of junk at night to reach it.

Great Idea! Three weeks to break a habit huh. I'll try really hard.

1. Stop eating so much chocolate or candy. This one is so tough because I make sweets for my husband for the week and he only takes on portion and leaves the rest home and I'm always tempted. Today I put the whole cake in the cupboard so I don't see it, or smell it. I can't elimate eating chocolate cus I do crave it alot when T.O.M comes and they say if you eliminate it you're only setting yourself up for a major binge later.
2. Stop snacking inbetween meals unless its fruits or veggies. And to eat only at the table and not on the couch.

If I can accomplish these two things I will be very proud of myself.

Bad habits are like a comfortable bed, easy to get into and hard to get out of...

1. Control my eatting. I have a habit of picking at food if it is in front of me (even if I don't like it) I am going to work on that self control.
2. Giving up coffee. I consume way to much in the day. So, I am going to work on going to a cup a day and leaving it at that.

hmm...well, there's a few things i'm working on for sure. the big 2 (at the moment) have to be:

1. i'm going to spend this time improving my flexibility, specifically in my knees. my right knee was hurting last week, and today its popping instead--i wanna work on strengthening my knees so they stay strong.

2. i'm gonna review my mantra and list of stuff every day, and keep my hands off the cookie jar, too.

I'm a nerd out of habit, not out of spite.

Ladies,

I hear it takes a full 21 days to either break or make a habit. This month's challenge has me thinking of areas I really need to work on as far as my eating habits goes.

For the remainder of this month, I want to focus on 2 destructive habits and change them into good habits.

1. I want to decrease my refined sugar intake. This includes chocolate! I did not say eliminate, I said decrease it, especially when it's that time of the month.

2. I want to eliminate all fried foods from my diet. This includes french fries. I love potatoes, so I need to create different ways to have them, besides baked. I need to look at SP's recipes as well as Cooking Light.

These are the next 2 habits I am going to work on during the remainder of this month and part of April or at least until I have some control over these habits. I want this weight off of me and I am willing to eliminate any bad habits that are hindering me from accomplishing that goal!

Ladies, let's hear from you. What areas of eating or working out are you willing to truly work on? Remember, we are Women on a Mission and we are serious about becoming healthier, not just slimmer. So, please post the habits you are willing to work on for a full 21 days, because your goals may assist other WOAM!

Thanks,

Steph
