I WAS READING IN SHAPE MAGAZINE AND IT SAYS THAT ASCIS AND NEW BALANCE WERE THE BEST FOR COMFORT AND SUPPORT AND THEN NIKE CAME IN THIRD!!

IF WE WERE TO START LIVING THE "TRUTH" THAT OUR BODIES ARE TEMPLES THAT GOD GAVE US, HOW WOULD YOU TAKE CARE OF IT??

Let me clarify. I am saying that you should wear your running shoes for running and not for everyday use. After a while you begin to wear down those running shoes and they will not support your feet like they should. No matter what type of running or walking you do, you need to have the right pair of shoes. Like you for example, you spent over a $100 dollars on some shoes and they didnt support your feet like they should. So that is why I say you need shoes for running( actual running shoes and not basketball shoes)and then regular shoes for everything else. Your feet take a beaten when your running compared to walking.

Plain and simply, you need to take care of your feet and just use those should for running. That's just my way of thinking.

Runnmama, why do you suggest wearing sneakers just for running? I bought a pair of walking sneakers that seem to be causing me knee pain. It took me a while to figure out that it was the sneakers and not the aerobics I was doing. I have been doing low or no impact exercise and find that my knee hurts after wearing the shoes for a while despite the change in activity.

I am going to try getting inserts for the sneakers and go to a running store to get shoes fitted to my foot. I just bought a new bike so I need to use sneakers for that. I also want to walk pain free and build up to running. When we have nasty weather I need to wear sneakers to exercise indoors. After spending $104 on walking shoes I will have to limit myself to one pair of running shoes which will be a stretch financially to manage. I even went to a good shoe store to buy my walking shoes so it really frustrates me that they are causing me problems. I hope a running store can help me to get comfortable shoes.

FYI,
No matter what shoe you buy for running, you should only use those shoes for running and for nothing else. Same for walking shoes. If you are an avid runner, make sure you are changing your shoes out about every 6 months. If you run a lot or walk a lot, those shoes tend to wear down quickly and your feet sre no longer getting the support they need when you are running. Remember your feet are the foundation to your body, if they are not taken care of the rest of your body, (i.e knees, hips, back) will soon follow.

I wear New Balance. I have wide feet and narrow heels, so it is difficult to find a shoe that fits. I wear 881's.

Thanks for all the advice ! unfortunatly I live in the sticks and I dont have a specialty store. Pretty much my only option in internet. I did find a website that asked what shape of foot you have and then they pick the shoe depending on your foot..I will try to find that agian.

My New Balance shoes were great and comfy! My only thing was that apparently while I was walking on the treadmill, sometimes my feet would knock into each other, and so the rim of the top of the shoes wore holes in them. Weird.

I wear New Balance and I have to say they are the best sneakers/shoes I have ever own. I had this one ingrown toenail that would not go away even after the doctor took care of it the thing would come right back. I work in a hospital so wear comfortable good shoes all the time, but still could not get rid of the thing. Well I bought these New Balance shoes and within 2 weeks the ingrown toenail was gone and has not returned. That has been since October and being pain free is a beautiful thing.

We live each day with the thought of a better tomorrow so lets make all of our tomorrows healthier and fulfilling.

My favorites for walking are Reebok and Nike. I tend to wear my sneakers out in about 6 months - I either get holes in the toe area in the sole of the shoes, or I wear out all of the traction. But a good, comfortable shoe is the way to go!

I agree with checking out a shoe store to get fitted. It definitely helped me find a good pair of shoes that work for me - New Balance 767s. They come in wide and are made for people with flat feet like me. I've bought a couple of differnt pairs of shoes in this series and I love them!

Thank you for that info. I have trouble with shoes also, because my feet have no ligature support at all and so the typical running shoe doesn't work. I'll go look at TJMaxx!

My ticker now shows my entire struggle since 2 weeks before I started SP. I started SP at 208, but started losing at 219.

I have had much success with Aesics and Saucony. I have very flat feet and I need shoes with really good arch support. I tried Reebok, but just wasn't enough arch support. I have tried New Balance, but the pair I had didn't allow enough flexibility for foot movement. My feet hurt bad in those.

I've actually been able to find great deals on both Aesics and Saucony at discount stores such as TJMaxx and Shoe Carnival. Don't know if you have either in your area, but if so you may want to check them out. Oftentimes you can also find last year's style on sale, whereas this year's is still at regular price. Same quality just isn't the latest versions.

I LOVE my newbalance work shoes "nurse shoes" but I really don't like my running shoes from them. I have flat, inverted feet and they don't have a strong enough arch support to hold. My feet just flatten it. It may be because of my weight in which case I will be thankful when that is over because they are comfortable shoes when I first start wearing them... And the price isn't too out there. I'll wear them for the couch to 5K because I cannot afford new ones, but if I could I would buy a specialized pair at a special store (wherever one may be near me?)

I LOVE BUYING SHOES AT REI.... if you don't have one I am so sorry.... My fav store! But I don't know if this is true at all REI's, since I live in Seattle and we have the flagship store, but you can try them out on their track.... and if you dont like them return them... ( i dont know exactly how that works but you should ask)

CHRISTIE,

I have to agree with FINECHINA. You should probably go to a specialized shoe store. We have one here in Toledo. I use to run with Nike, but I feel they were to heavy. Then, I went to Saucony. This time around, I may invest in some New Balance. I want comfort, while running. So, we shall see!

Sincerely,

Steph

I recently wanted a pair of walking shoes, I asked the ladies in the shoe department for advice on what type shoe I needed. I told them that I needed a good pair of shoes for walking. I also told them that I was diabetic and needed a good suppportive shoe. The shoe that I purchased is called Nikewalk. It feels comfortable on feet, they feel great on my feet while walking. Ask the The shoe store for help. The shoes were a bit pricey but I know that they will pay for themselves in the long run.

I use to think New Balance was the way to go until I got Aasics IGS for Christmas. They are the best shoe I've ever run or walked in my whole life. They're not cheap but I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for as far as sneakers go.

I would suggest going to a store that specializes in running shoes. At first, they will examine the arch (or no arch) on your feet and from there they will have you try on different pairs of shoes. They will have you run up and down the store to make sure you are properly aligned and that the shoe is a good fit for you. They are the shoe experts and will give you great advice. You will pay more for the shoes, but at least you'll know it's the right shoe for you. Another suggestion, stay away from the retail stores. They don't care about your feet, they just want to make a sale.

I've actually heard that if you are doing a variety of exercising, you should purchase a pair of cross trainers. I use them because of all my walking and running after the kids and they last me quite awhile. Look into Reebok or Nike for those. Good luck:)
