Angel,

I am proud of you! Great job, girlfriend! emoticon

In another posting, I wrote how busy I've been with school and traveling for work. However, I am going to make a point each week to communicate with my WOAM. I miss you ladies very much! Also, I have not been doing well with eating because of traveling. Yesterday, I ate like a pig! Ugh! I cannot wait to get home. I have 2 more days in GA, then on Saturday I will be returning home. Like Dorothy said in the Wizard of the Oz, there's no place like home! emoticon

I almost forgot to share - I had to buy new black dress pants because my hubby and I were chaparones for my 8th grade son's spring formal.

So, I picked up a pair that was on sale never thought in a million years that they would fit because they were a size 12. I havent been in a 12 since right after high school which is 20 years ago!

Well I took them to the dressing room and tried them on just knowing that I would never get them over my butt!

Well - not only did they fit - they were nice and looked great and I ended up standing in the changing room crying with my kids outside the door asking me what I was doing and why I was crying! I then took them to the plus sizes and showed them the size 24 that I was in last summer! I wish you could have seen their faces. Then they got why I was crying like a baby.

I was so proud to be in those pants on Friday night!!

Just had to share.

Hello everyone!

I hope that everyone is doing well. I am still with you all.

It has just been so busy here at work and that is a good thing!

I really like it and I am starting to get customers of my own that I am handling the freight for! So it is exciting!

Hey there ladies,

I know I have been MIA. However, I have been working on my dissertation for school! I was reading through my emails and received a walking program from Prevention Magazine. It's for 8 weeks! Also, they have a program for a half marathon (13.1 miles). Since, I think I am going to have to give up running, because of my achy knees, I was thinking of doing this and finding a half marathon. Anyone interested in the training?

Angel,

I am glad to hear that the weight is still coming off despite it coming off slowly. Sometimes, when weight lost is slow, it's better! So, keep up the great work and let us know how you're doing with your job and your weight loss!

Hello everyone!

I have been doing good - the weight loss has slowed down some but it is still coming off.

I will not make my 170's by 4-1 this month. First one that I have not made but I am only 2 lbs away and that is not too shabby! This last month has been hard with getting laid off and then starting a new job, but I have been eating better and did not gain or over eat during all the stress I was going through.

Well I am getting settled into the new job and will hopefully have more time to check in and see what is up with all of you! I hope that everyone is well and that you are all sparking away!

Talk to you all soon,

Jill,

Welcome back! I hope you are going to join us for the 90-days before challenge.

Ladies,

I am working on my mini-challenges I am going to do on a weekly basis, because I want to break this plateau! So, let's encourage each other during this challenge by staying in touch through this thread. Let's really hold each other accountable by at least posting once a week. I know everybody is busy with families, work, school, and other activities, but we have to take time for ourselves in order to be truly effective for those activities. Let's go for it these 90 days!

Hi ladies,

I am a 30-yr-old SAHM with a 2-yr-old son. Just saw the post for the Summer Challenge and I'm so excited. I have been on this team for years...literally...but have not participated in quite a while and it shows. I have already started to ease my way back into things and am exercising regularly now but I really need help with my eating! I love the idea of having an accountability partner and I'm looking forward to getting you all better.

I was talking with a girlfriend tonight! We were talking about getting healthy and eating well in order to have great skin and beautiful hair. My goal is to eat clean Sunday through Friday and have splurge days on Saturday. Additionally, my goal is to press into my running/walking program.

Partners, what are you short-term goals?

I have been busy, but I'm doing good! My eating is getting better. I know there are still some changes I need to make. However, I am very pleased with myself. I just have to get back into being consistent with my workouts despite me being busy. Working out is definitely my stress reliever! I think my body just needed a little bit of a rest this week. So, I haven't worked out as much as I normally do!

Angel, hope all went well with the interview.

Angel,

How did your interview go? Did you hear anything? Let us know! I pray all goes well for you and may you be blessed with a job!

Ladies, how have your workouts and eating habits been going? I am doing well with both. However, there are times when I want something sweet. My mother and I are going to have something sweet once a week in order to satisfy that craving! This definitely takes serious discipline!

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

May God be with you and bless you:
May you see your children's children.
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.

May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home
And may the hand of a friend always be near.

May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.

Happy St. Patty's Day.

I really need a better week, this week. Our weather was rainy & dreary over the weekend which, for some reason, gave me the pass to not exercise or eat right. Woke up this morning & know I need to work harder. That's the good news, until we take that last breath, we always have a chance to start new.

Have a great week everyone!

Sorry I havent been on here as much as I would like, even though I am online from morning til night - I am doing nothing but searching for a job.

The interview that I had on Tuesday still looks very promising - I spoke to the owner yesterday and he said that he has been so busy this week that he will call me on Monday with an update. He said that I was the leading candidate for the position, which was a huge boost to the ego and trust me I needed that.

I am still doing well with the weight loss - it has slowed up a little but it is still going down. I just have to get up and move more but I cant stop looking for a job until I have one.

I have a doctor appointment today so I am excited to see what he thinks about what I lost. I am going to ask him about my sleep machine because I cant wear it anymore - I think that the pressure on it is too high (which is great!) Maybe I have reduced one health issue with the weight loss.

Well I will check in probably on Monday and I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekened.

This week was definitely a "dud" but you are absolutely right, it is a journey. A friend described it perfectly yesterday. Imagine your in a sail boat, depending on the wind to get you to your goal. Your not going to sail in a straight line and some days your going to get more wind than others.

Good luck with school, Stevie. I am hoping to get back there myself one of these days. I hear you about the SP teams. I narrowed my down to just two.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Thank you StevieBee! I had the best of hopes to do as well this week as I did last week, however, it looks like my daughter has strep and I have a growing cyst on my ovary. (It was back to the hospital for me again today.) My daughter seems to be doing fine....we're just keeping an eye on her. I was feeling bad for "dropping the ball" with some of my teams - and of course for mysef - for not putting the hour or even HALF hour of exercise in I wanted to on some days. Did park as far away as I could each place I went though. I would normally be discouraged, but as I put in my SP blog, I'm not letting myself think like that. =) If anything, I'm focusing on watching what I eat!

Thank you so, so much for your prayers. They mean a lot!

Sweet,

I hear what you are saying about keeping up with SP. Right now, I am going through the teams and seeing which ones I need to stay in and which ones I need to let go off. I try to stay in the ones that motivate me the most. Of course, I love this team, because you ladies are awesome! However, there are other teams that really do not challenge me.

Additionally, my life is about to get more hectic, because of school. I try to make it a point to check in with SP, because I need the motivation and encouragement. However, I may not be able to check-in all the time. So, you are not alone in this.

Also, congratulations on reaching a goal last week. Continue to keep up the great work! emoticon

Also, keep us up to date about your daughter. She is in my prayers!

Oh, Patty! That happens to me sometimes. I know if I want a good deep tissue massage, he's the guy....though he doesn't mean too. =)

Yesterday, I had to rush my daughter to the hospital. I'm sort of trying to get back on top of my game here as a result with the laundry, kids' schooling, exercing and all. I'm just pacing myself. I think I can do it.

Take it easy Joss - this is a journey! I'm still working on my back. I had my husband do his "massage" and I think he bruised my muscles. It does not feel as tight as it does sore. I won't tell him though.

It is so tough to get back in the swing after not feeling well for a few days. Add no sleep and its just a bad combination.

Finally feeling better. Just need to get back on the treadmill.

Patty - maybe your body is craving rest right now! Are you dehydrated at all? That sometimes makes me feel pretty groggy too.

I had a bad eating weekend. BUT back on track as of yesterday. Exercise is good too. I keep forgetting to weigh myself. I have been sleeping so good (a miracle) and wake up just in time to get the kids up and making lunches and the all important COFFEE! I've wanted to record a yoga show that's on at 6 and I'm not getting that done either but I'd rather sleep!!!

Bad eating day today....I really need to pull myself out of this rut. Plus, today left no time for exercise, even my 20 minute video.
Vowing to get better, it's just been a crazy time. I'm gonna pack my lunch tomorrow, though and start back on the healthy track. Plus, I'm promising now - with all you guys as my witness that I'm gonna get back on the 30 Day Shred horse and pick up with day 5 of level 2. Plus, it's going to be a SP strength day, which I have to keep up for the challenge!!

I still feel kinda gross right now, though. What do you guys do to keep from eating crap? Especially when it's right there in front of you and - the hardest part for me - FREE. I could really use some help in that area.

Sweet, I know what you mean about keeping up and finding time. For me, time seems to disappear on SP. I'll log on to do something and, before I know it, a huge chunk of time has gone by. I've started setting specific tasks up when I go on. Such as "I'm just going to add these glasses of water" or "I'm going to log my exercise and nothing else." I've also noticed that I've had to cut back on the number of message boards I follow. Or just not be as diligent and read every post, especially on boards where other people obviously don't.

Hi! Am just checking in here. This was Day 9 for me! So far it's going good. I met my goal for last week to lose 2 lbs. I actually exceeded it a little bit.

What is a struggle for me right now is keeping up with my SP emails and teams. I am staying within range yet I'm finding it sometimes hard to create a block of time to do all the computer work. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Stevie, I am at a bit of a crossroads myself these days. As far as eating, I am doing okay. I did not feel to well today so took a break ont the exercise.

Hope everyone has a great week.

I had a long talk with a friend this afternoon about understanding where I am in life right now. I am ready for some sort of change. So, I am trying to figure things out! So, maybe we can come up with some names and see what we come up with.

Also, I am doing well right now with the eating. I am planning on keeping this up! Taking a week at a time.

I have thought about changing my name. I have been on sp over a year now & thought a change might be good. Ironically I spell "joss", "joc" short for jocelyn but thought people would think its "jock". I just have no idea what I would want it to be...

Stevie I am right behind you. I turn 40 next year and want this to be the start of the best to come.

Rebecca, I was thinking about changing my Sparkmail username as well. I feel such a change is about to occur in my life. I am turning the big 40 this year and I am so excited. So, I am trying to determine the next level I am in. Thanks for sharing with us your new name and I am glad you are still with us!

A few things:

1. This is my new post under my new username. I had been posting as KREIPKE, but for various and sundry reasons, decided to change. But I'm still here with you!

2. Sorry that I haven't been around recently. As I mentioned, I was helping organize a recruiting weekend for my grad program and basically spent all my free time starting Thursday helping recruits or being passed on in exhaustion. I slacked majorly on cardio (but am still within bounds for the month's challenge...just not my own personal goal) and didn't make the best eating choices. However, I was able to keep up with my SP strength training and fit in my Thursday night session.

3. On to the now...I'm back on the wagon. Did my killer cardio this morning and will do some strength before the day is over. I'm also back to rigorously planning - in advance - what I'm going to eat and not deviating from that.

As Joss said, I hope that everyone is having good weather! Here in MA, it's been gorgeous. Tomorrow, it's supposed to return to gross, so I'm gonna take advantage of it while I can!

I have to admit, I really dislike strength training. I know I need it, but I would rather go 5 miles a day on my treadmill than do a crunch. Oh well, I'll get it.

Great job on the sugar intake Stevie. There is this new product called "ideal". I have only seen it in packets but I really like it for my green tea. No calories and tastes better than splenda. Comes in a green box. I need to cut my sugar, too. Last nite I was so bad. I bought a bag of "crack" i.e. reese's pieces Easter eggs. They are my downfall.

Stevie - Congrats on limiting sugar. Right now, I'm just trying to limit calories and not really pay attention to break down. I figure once I'm good with staying in my range, then I can move on to paying attention to particular aspects.

Well, today did not go quite as I had hoped and tomorrow will most likely not be much better. This weekend is a recruitment weekend for my graduate program and I'm helping coordinate the students this weekend. I had hoped to be able to get in my 20 minute Shred DVD when I got home from dinner with them tonight, but that wasn't until almost 11 and then I was too wiped to try it. Also, tomorrow is going to be a long, full day, so I don't exactly see myself finding time to do it. So much for 30 days in a row...I suppose I'll have to reevaluate that goal. Not to mention that I probably didn't make the best choices when going out tonight, although I did limit the beer intake, which is a small step. At least tomorrow night is Thai food, which will be healthier than brewery food.
On the plus side, I did get in my SP strength tonight, so I'm staying on track for that. And I have been good about keeping calories low all week, up until dinner today.

I suppose this happens. It's not possible to be perfect. But I'm committed to finishing the week strong, making sure to get my last strength session in to make it up to 3 this week and doing my video both Saturday and Sunday and then starting the new week anew!

Ladies, I have really been pressing in with decreasing my sugar intake! This week, I have decreased my sugar significantly. I am going to keep up this trend at least up to Easter Sunday. Hopefully, I can incorporate this habit into my eating lifestyle. WooHoo!

Aah! Life has been quite crazy lately.
And today was just one of those days...Seemed like I was two steps behind everything all day long. Missed the bus, missed my train, stuff in lab isn't working out, wocka wocka wocka.

Anywho, it improved when I got home. Let myself eat a small - yet nutritious! - snack, crashed for about 20 minutes while watching last night's Daily Show and then forced myself out of bed to do my daily Shred with Jillian Michaels. It's amazing how a little bit of working out can simultaneously kick my butt and make me feel better.

On the nutrition side of things, I've decided to try and do some calorie cycling. Nothing fancy, just trying to consciously stay low in my range for 2-3 days and then - preferable on days when I was going to splurge anyway/have hard workouts - eat high in my range for 1 day. So far, I'm on day three! Woohoo! Monday was low, Tuesday high, Wednesday low. Plan is Thurs low, Fri high, Sat-Sun low. I'll let you know how it goes and if I'm able to stick to it...

We also had snow and ice, but were able to retain power, at least. Was stuck at home all day and tried to be productive, but it just didn't happen. I have this paper I need to write and it's just not coming. So, I ended up just kinda holed up in my house all day not doing much. In a new twist of fate, I'm actually low on calories today. It was quite the experience to figure out how to get in those last 100 or so calories so I was in range.
On the exercise front, I started Level 2 of Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred. Don't know if anyone here has ever done the 30DS, but man, she is one tough coach. Really pushes you. It's only a 20 minute workout, but I could hardly make it through.

Hope everyone is staying warm! (At least in the places with this freakish March blizzard...)

We had snow, ice and no power yet I still managed to eat fairly decent and got 30 on the treadmill. I have 90 minutes of cardio and strength exercises in so off to a good start.

The weather here is also horrible, Joss. We're supposed to get between 10 and 15 inches of snow tonight. And it's March! And it was 50 two days ago. I'm soo sick of the winter. I'm ready for spring. Of course, now that I'm on Spark, I guess I should be grateful of a few more weeks in winter wear to really be good and get closer to my fitter, leaner self. But, I really wouldn't mind some warmer weather.

This weekend wasn't nearly as bad as I had feared. Yes, there was some indulging, but not as much as I had thought. And, since the weather was nice, we ended up walking around the city for over an hour. Didn't walk very fast, but it was still some activity. While I did have a few drinks, I tried to stick with low calorie stuff. Only had one beer and then stuck with Bicardi and Diets, so at least not too many calories. Plus, as I had suspected, we went out dancing for several hours. If the sweat I worked up was any indication, it totally made up for missing my day of 30 Day Shredding.

Hope everyone's weekends went well! It's a new month and a new chance to dedicate ourselves to this task.

I was away this past week for a few days. Some wrong eating and not being able to go to the gym really got me out sync. I really had to push to go to the gym. I did do a total body workout but not too heavy. Only a few minutes of cardio. I have an appt. tomorrow with a trainer at the gym. It's free and I hope more than just a run thru of all the machines.

I, too, workout at both. I am not very good with DVD's but I am going to look into the strength training equipment. I think that is my best best along with crunches & planks. My middle tire needs to go!

For cardio I stick with the bike & treadmill. I have a treadmill at home so it makes it easy. My back does not do well with the elipitical. This sounds weird, but I almost feel too tall on the eliptical. Like I cannot get the hang of it.

The weather is horrible here. Cold, raining, and now they are calling for snow. Yuck.

Joss, do you workout at the gym or at home? If you workout at home, there are some great strength training DVDs out there. For example, I have the following strength training programs: Jari Love, P90X, ChaLean Extreme, The Firm & Jillian Michaels. You may want to goggle these and check them out. I actually do cardio mainly at the gym, because I love the elliptical and I am going to start walking/running on the treadmill. But, I do strength training mainly at home, because I can grunt as loud as I want. emoticon I also do a few machines at the gym in order to target certain areas on my body (mainly the lower body). I hope this helps!

Stevie, we can do this together. I started my cardio and did some strength training. If anyone has any suggestions for strength training that works well, I would love to read it. That is my weakness.

I am with you!

After my "beat up on Joss" moment I went to my weight loss challenge group that meets on Thursday nites down the street. I lost 3.2 more pounds. I still have a long way to go, but that was just the kick I needed to keep going.

Stevie I hear ya about the "jiggles". I know the challenge in March is really going to get me in motion. I do really well with eating, excercising is another story. So if you stay on me with the exercise, I will stick with you on the eating!

As far as alcohol goes, that is a tough one. I only have a glass of wine every now and then so I am probably not the best person to make a recommendation. You could make up your mind to be the designated driver & stick with club & lime, you could drink 1 low carb/low cal lite beer, or drink 1 bacardi & diet coke (they are actually pretty tasty & fairly reasonable calorie wise).

Faith is taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase.

Rebecca, welcome to the team! You joined us right on time! We will be starting our March challenge on Sunday!

Ladies, we have a full 31 days this upcoming month to get rid of all the excuses and get back on course! We have weight to lose and bodies to tone up! So, let's really focus this month and keep one another accountable.

I need you ladies to get on me about my eating habits, because they were awful in February. However, for lent, I am giving up sweets. This is time for me to treat my body like the temple it is. It's time to maximize my gym membership as well as my strength training DVDs and stop wasting my money. Additionally, I am going to start a walk/run routine in order to get ready for a 5K this summer or fall. I really want the jiggling to stop and I want this ugly fat off of my body. So, no more excuses! I am a woman who is really on a mission to get the best body I can get through discipline, focus, and consistency! Whose with me?

Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

No one can do what you are called to do, but you!

I totally hear you, Joss. Today was a rough day for me, too. And I'm not entirely sure why. I think it's mostly just the cold. I'm really ready for it to be nice outside again, so that I can be warm and in the sun. I think it also has something to do with school. I'm in grad school and right now, we're in this weird limbo period where I know whose lab I want to work in to do my thesis, but we're not allowed to pick labs for another two months, so it's just waiting for now. And I'm not a fan of uncertainty. It may also have something to do with boys, but that's not really something I want to get into....
Bottom line: they summed today to put me in a general malaise, which is not fun because I'm usually a very positive, upbeat person.
I also totally hear you on feeling like your goal is completely out of reach. I was doing really well, but today I blew it because I didn't bring enough snacks with me to last out the day when I had to work late and ended up eating an oh so healthy cheese steak sandwich for dinner. I didn't even log today because I don't want to deal with it. And I've only been at SP two weeks! I feel like that's way too early to be failing.

But, as I said, I'm generally a positive person, so I try not to dwell. I'm trying to focus on the fact that, while I may not have done well with the eating, I stuck with my 30 day shred goal and did it again today. It's strange to think that in a week that I would be able to see a change, but I definitely feel like I can. The workout is getting easier and I feel like I'm nearing readiness to move onto level 2. (Which is good...because I'm supposed to in 3 more days!) And then I try to remind myself that tomorrow is a new day for me to attack and begin anew.
What's one thing that you did well today? Exercise? Drinking your water? Focus on your small success. That's what I usually try to do...admittedly with varying levels of success, but that's life.

In other news, I sense that I may have a difficult weekend coming up. A friend of mine and my roommate's is coming in town for an interview and is visiting us Friday and Saturday. I know that this will likely mean going out to eat and most likely drinking. Any suggestions of ways to stick to being good even with huuuge temptations? I have to admit - at the risk of sounding like an alcoholic - not drinking any alcohol is such a hard thing for me. Luckily, I have the consolation that drinking will likely be compensated for with dancing. Clubbing may be fun, but hours of bouncing also burns those calories!

Ladies, forgive me but I need to vent just a little.

I am so disgusted and disappointed with myself I can hardly stand it. I feel as though this 80 lb. goal is completely out of my reach. I looked in the mirror and all I wanted to do was cry. I am ashamed because I have no one to blame but myself.

Okay. Time to get real. I cannot wait for the March challenge, not that I am not working on this now, but I know this is the kick in the behind that I need.

emoticon KREIPKE!

You have come to the right place! I am with you on the large groups. I do a lot better when I am with a smaller group of peeps. The food tracking has done wonders for me, too. Now I just need to get my exercise in. With the help of the March challenge, I think it is exactly what I need to get jump-started.

We are here for you and each other. Welcome!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to know that I've been reading this thread and I find it really inspirational. I was hoping that I could perhaps jump on as well. I've been checking in various places, but I think a smaller group of people where I'm more than just one of the masses would really help me out.

I'm new to both SP and to be completely committed to getting healthy and losing this weight. I'm totally loving SP, though. I think it's just the kick in the pants I need. For me, getting the exercise in is way easier than the eating. It's partially a function of being a grad student with a crazy schedule and partial laziness, I must admit. But since actually tracking everything with SP, I must admit I've gotten better. Just knowing that I have to type it in and see it there in my log is such a motivation to not put that extra helping of whatever in my mouth. Today I was bad, I admit. Ate way too much at an Indian buffet at lunch. My only redemption is that it was a late lunch and filling food, so I really haven't had to eat anything else for the rest of the day.

Anywho, I just wanted to say hi and I hope I can join you guys. You ladies seem like very motivated people who I'd like to have on my side, rooting for me and I hope to be able to do the same for you.

You got it.

Okay, so I have a Fat Tuesday confession... I ate a Big Mac for dinner. Amazingly I stayed within my calorie range but I am still horrified.

Tomorrow is a new day. For Lent I have given up chips and chocolate.

We can do this together. No doubt.

Joss & Patty,

Let's really keep each other accountable this month! I am really tired of the jiggle! It's time to tighten up!

I'm in!!! Enough of letting time slip by. Spring will be here then summer. I haven't made much progress since thanksgiving!!! Doing great today!
I went to the gym yesterday afternoon and no lower back problems. Still working on getting that knot broken up. I worked out for almost 2 hours then came home and got into some cheese curls. It was leftover from a party my son had. When that happens I need to pitch things like that in a strong mement.

Ladies, I have now posted the next challenge for March! I hope you are going to join me in really transforming our bodies this upcoming month. I am going to press in, because I want to become Sassy Stephanie, no longer Saggy Stephanie! emoticon

I am ready to focus in on my abs and lower body as well as cleaning up my eating. I want to see a change in March. You know how the college basketball has a March Madness tournaments, I am going to have my own March Madness competition with myself. I am going to challenge myself each week by focusing on a particular area. For example, the first week of March, I am going to focus on eating clean. The second week, I am going to start the Couch to 5K (C25K) schedule (it's a walking to running workout). I love to run, but I have always started it, but never finished the C25K. However, that's going to change this month!

I am tired of my body looking the way it's looking. It's time for a change. It's time for a transformation! So, I am going to challenge myself in March!
