Hi Kathy, welcome to the team!emoticon
I also have sleep apnea, being using a bi-level machine for 6 years now.
I think I'm addicted to it now, can't sleep without it.
The complications of diabetes scares me to death, everyone on my father's side has it.
Everything I learned about diabetes I learn here on Sparks.
I hate to exercise, don't know if I'm just lazy or what but I do try to walk everyday.
My knees hurt really bad, but I know its the weight I'm carrying, hoping one day that will all change.

Hi Kathy,
I just want to welcome you to the team and I hope you will be able to find all the information and encouragement you could possibly need. I know this is scarry - my mother had diabetes and so did both of my grandparents. There is much information here, as well as many supportive and encouraging people. If you have questions or issues, just bring them here and I'm sure you will find the help you need. God Bless You.

Hi Kathy,

Welcome to the group! I only joined a short time ago when I found out I was pre-diabetic. I decided I didn't want to end up like my mom, so as soon as I found out I started reading about what foods are low G.I. I've tried to change how I eat (but not a strict diet) and I'm trying to walk 4 or 5 days a week for 30 mins. I've only lost a little weight, but when they re-tested me a month later, my sugar was down (almost to normal), my cholesterol was down (also almost down to normal) and I'm feeling much better! Is there anyone who you could walk with? It helps to have someone to talk to while you walk to pass the time. I only walk 30 mins each time.

The key is to start slow and steady. If you try to over-do, you'll never stick with it.

I hope this encourages you.

Alicia

Hi my name is Kathy and have been diagnosed with pre-d. My a1c is 6.1. Have known I have been having problems for some time and have numbness already in my feet. I am so petrified I can't move. All I'm hearing is Lose weight, Stop smoking, Exercise! I also have depression and dercums disease. I am overwhelmed and feel guilty everyday because I can't move in a positive direction. i feel bad most days and I need alot of sleep. I was just also diagnosed with sleep apnea and put on cpap. My mom and dad both have diabetes. My mother suffered so much for 10 years, I took care of her all that time every day, until she passed two years ago from kidney failure. Strokes, bladder infections, staph , gastro paresis, nueropathy, pain paralyses, etc. I know first hand it kills you a little everyday, I am scared to death. I wont exercise eat right or anything and i know what will happen. What is the matter with me? I am new here and hope to have enough determination to at least explore the site. Thanks
