Congratulations on your sobriety and your weight loss. God blessings to you always!
“I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is 'Abortion', because it is a war against the child... A direct killing of the innocent child, 'Murder' by the mother herself... And if we can accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love... And we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts...” ― Mother Teresa

Zumba has really helped me get more toned but I am also watching my diet and doing strength training. The aerobic workout that Zumba gives me really helps but I know I have to do more in order to lose the weight I want to lose.
Zumba alone won't get you in shape, but it is a good part of an exercise program. Because it's fun, you tend to stick with it. I have to admit that it helped me get my waistline back because you are always shaking your hips and waist.
My heart rate monitor shows that I may burn from 300 to 500 calories doing Zumba workouts, depending on my intensity that day. I'm 160 pounds, so if you're heavier and jump around a lot you may burn a bit more than that but I doubt it will be much over 600 calories
To loose 1 pound, you must burn about 3500 calories more than you eat. So, if you do Zumba every day and honestly keep your intake the same, you should loose about 1 pound a week... I use the combination of a healthy diet and working out every day to loose weight, the burned calories and lost pounds do not match every week, bu t it kind of gives the clue about your progress... I've notices that when I work out, I loose inches a lot faster than weight...it means I may have lost only a couple of pounds, but I look a lot better than when I do just dieting
I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day. E. B. White
I have lost 45 pounds since August 11th doing Zumba. I started out with Aqua Zumba and am now kicking butt in land Zumba. I would say it is a great way to lose weight if you control your calories also!
Sweet, senstive, Purple Dolphin losing some weight!
AZULVIOLETA has a good point--if youre new to exercise and/or heavy (or "older"--like me!!), you need to start slowly. Most zumba classes are very high energy and many instructors use very high-impact moves. I have to be careful of my feet, so i use mostly moderate to low impact moves, but add intensity with lots of bog arm movements. Every instructor hss his/:23 own style. If you can, try to go to a zumba gold class when you're just beginning. These classes are designed for older people or those who dont exercise regularly. The routines are easier to follow and are low impact. However, if zumba gold isnt available, you can participate in any zumba class, as long as you listen to your body and dont over-do it. Ask the instructor to show low-impact modifications, or if all else fails, just march in place when you feel your heart-rate getting too high or if you feel any discomfort in your joints, feet or muscles. My 72 yr old mom goes to a VERY intense zumba class with mostly younger very fit participants, since they dropped zumba gold aat her gym. She does fine, because she knows her limits, how to moodify steps, and isnt afraid to march in place in the back when she gets winded.
It probably depends on your metabolism and current level of fitness. I can't imagine that you will be able to lose 50 pounds without also being on a healthy diet. Losing 50 pounds SAFELY should take something like six months.
Zumba is very high impact and very cardio-focused, so I would argue that in-and-of-itself it is not a complete exercise plan. You also need to lift weights. You might want to think about how high impact your weekly workout plan is too and whether or not you will also need to build in things like swimming that are easier on your joints.
Please be careful about trying too much high-impact exercise too quickly. That's a great way to injure yourself.
For me dieting is more like 80% exercise and 20% diet...a lot of this is going to depend who you are as an individual.
Zumba is an excellent cardio workout that burns lots of calories. But of course, you have to do it consistently for it to work--and the thing that makes zumba different than running, treadmill, spinning, etc is that it's so FUN that the hour flies by and you actually look forward to the next workout!! And of course, you have to eat healthy and consume the correct number of calories for your size and activity level. Ive heard that wt loss is 80 percent diet and 20 percent exercise. That seems right to me, since I do LOTS of zumba, but only lose wt when I'm watching my diet as well.
Hi BRANDYBEIR - Congratulations on setting a goal. I don't know what you mean by quick. Safe weight-loss journeys always take time. Zumba Fitness is a fun way to party through your journey but remember the choreo can't do it alone. When you take a class, play a game or follow a DVD make sure you are engaging your muscles. Pull in those abs as tight as you can, engage all of your core muscles but remember to breath. Don't hold your breath your muscles need oxygen. When you move your arms flex those biceps and triceps. Feel your muscles work and yes you will feel the burn. Jiggle, shake, giggle it's all good. Have fun and remember to track your calories. You want to make sure you properly fuel your body. And hydrate with lots of water. Have a great time and good luck!
I am wanting to lose 50 pounds and I want to do it quickly. Will Zumba help me lose the weight and tone up quik... If I can lose my love handles quick Ill be ok with losing the rest at a slower rate.. I am wanting to start this today!!
