I burn 600-780 per class depending on the routines. My instructor always asks me how much when she sees me wearing the watch. lol. Ends up we burn almost the same amount during class.
My polar heart rate moniter is AWESOME!! I've had it about 3 years with no complaints. It gives me all the info I need to know without guess work. I highly recommend it for everyone. My zumba Xbox (so far) at home has only been about 400 cal. (shorter duration, stop to answer phone, and not as high powered w/o 30 other people around I think).

I have been taking a Zumba class for 4 days a week for the past 2 weeks. I knew from the beginning that I would need to track my calories with an HRM... AND MY GOODNESS!!! I am burning an average of 1900-2200 calories per class?!?!?!?! I know its different for everyone, but has anyone else noticed high amounts on your HRM? I even called the manufacturer (Timex) and according to their formula used, its right. I cannot wait to see the lbs drop. I really love ZUMBA!! :)

I bought a HRM @ Walmart specifically because of Zumba and for purposes of tracking my calories here @SP. It cost almost $30. What I love about the monitor is that as I go I check my HR so that as it changes the calorie burn changes. I am sure most monitors do that, but they usually cost a little bit more.
I wish there was a way to measure my calories burned as well. I have been attending a Zumba class for a while and I love it! I moved back to school and bought Zumba fitness for the Wii, which is also very fun. But I don't have any device to count my calories.

I got my heart monitor at Target - it's a New Balance one that has the watch and strap you wear that goes with it. I really like it - it's easy to use and the strap was more comfortable than I thought it would be. They have ones you just touch when you want to measure your heart rate, but that seemed like it wouldn't be as accurate and I didn't know if I'd have to remember it. This one tells me at the end of my workout just how many calories that I've burned.
i use the high intensity aerobics when i track my classes at the ymca. our instructor really works us a lot harder than the dvds. when i'm at home doing dvds or the wii i use the low impact aerobics on the fitness tracker.
i like the heart monitor idea, where can i get one of those?
I do ZUMBA at the "Y" and love it so much that I asked for ZUMBA for my Wii for Christmas. I love it too. I have not lost a lot of weight with either yet but have lost inches. I've gone from a size 20 pants to size 16.
If anyone finds out how to track it on sparks please let me know.
There is actually a scientific math method that uses your height and weight but since I don't know it or own a heart monitor. I just use SP estimates under dance either fast pace like the twist or moderate like disco. You can sort of tell if you gave it a lot or a real lot of umph! Just don't make the mistake of using someones else calories burned. My friend asked me how much calories I burned in a kicked boxing class (she also takes it) at the time it was 720. Now with my weight loss it is more like 605. Point being she is at least 30lbs lighter. She probably burned no more than 525-550. Way off but I did not realize she was using the it for herself. I just thought she was wondering about me. Ooops!

Tracy--glad to hear you are enjoying Zumba!!! I give myself 600 cals/hour when I do Zumba at a high intensity level (sweating, heart rate up pretty high). I think this is a good estimate for me--but YARDWALKER is right: only a HR monitor can tell what YOU burn, since we are all different wts and work out w different intensity.
you can use the fitness tracker under dance and it will give you a good estimate. the best way however, is to buy and use a heart rate monitor. I love mine, wouldn't be without it for any type of exercise.
