First of all, I'm curious what the "non-Zumba Zumba class" was like. What did they do?? What kind of music did she/he use? What kinds of steps--or were they just aerobic moves?
Yes, Zumba is supposed to be 70% Latin or International music, and the instructor can incorporate 1-2 other songs in her routine, like pop,hip-hop, rock or even country. (One of my instructors does a REAALY cute salsa routine to "Why Don't We Just Dance"!! I like it, eventhough I'm not a big country music fan). But you WEBSAM is right--there is a Zumba "formula" that they expect you to stick to, even with all the flexibility.
YES!! It's so fun to be certified and a ZIN member!! I did it in Oct and still haven't taught a full class, but it's something I did for me more than to make money. I LOVE getting the choreo DVDs and the music CDs and practicing the routines at home. Someday I hope to have the confidence to sub for my regular instructors at the gym--they've both been "grooming" me to fill in for them when they need a day off! LOL!! It's nice to have a "Zumba mentor" or two!!
I'm also going to contact our local Curves, now that the holidays are over..
