I purchased the DVD set from the Zumba website and it is set to arrive Thurs / Friday.. Looking forward to the work-out for I have heard that it really works.

While waiting I have been doing my Turbo Jam workouts, but looking forward to have something else to merge into my Cardio slots.

Remember to take everything one day at a time and we will win the war in the end!!!

Kelly, how do you like water Zumba? I would love to try it but there are no classes close enough for me to check out. :-( Seems like it would be lots of fun!

Has anyone else had any experiences with water Zumba.

May the sweet smell of "Scentsy" be with you always!

Calorie burn for zumba depends on a lot of things. Your height, weight, your fitness level, and how much you get into it. I burn anywhere from 650 calories and up. Last night I burned 791 calories and I also ramped it up. The classes I am taking have been running about 62 to 65 minutes. The last 10 minutes of my classes are ab toning. Good luck with your first class, enjoy the music and the beat you will have fun. emoticon

I am so excited - tonight is my first class and I am already wanting to on Sunday too! How long are the classes? About how many calories does it burn?

No one is watching, they are too concerned over their own moves. We are there for ourselves and not anyone else, or at least this is how it should be.

It has taken me a long time to realize this.

Congratulations for joining the team. On the Zumba DVD's you need to experiment with the moves and find what is comfortable. Once you get the rhythm you can do any combination. Nothing is cast in stone. emoticon

Hi,

I'm new to the site, forum and Zumba. I have a question about the zumba program that you all may be able to help me with. I started the 1st week by the booklet that you receive at the beginning of this week. After that would I go on to the next-10 day workout and then on to the 7 day workout as a permanent workout?

I think your instructor is probably new at instructing Zumba. You have to memorize movements and music to about 12 songs which makes an hour. If they are new it takes one or two times to get in the groove.

i go to zumba three days a week and LOVE it. my instructor has just been certified to teach zumba w/ weights (can't wait for that one) and water zumba. anyone know if we will need water shoes for in the pool? don't know what kind of moves to expect, and didn't want to wait till the last minute and end up w/ dorky looking shoes. columbia has some water shoes that actually look cute, but they are a little pricey. anyone doing water zumba???

I am looking into getting a pair of dance shoes b/c they'll help slide, I started another thread about it. So far I have gotten a few good answers there. You might want to pop in there and check it out.

BRENDY I have the same problem as you with the carpeting. Did you find anything that worked? I tried socks - that sucks. I have Asics gel shoes and there is literally no way I can slide even an inch LOL But I need the stability of a good running shoe or I get extremely sore arches.

No one can make you feel any particular way, good or bad........ unless you let them.

I did my first Zumba class about a week ago. I burned 468 calories in an hour! Wow!! The only thing I didn't like was our instructor didn't seem to know what she was doing. She would start doing a move while we all followed her then she would say, "No, that's wrong" and change the move. It happened quite a few times. She also at one point said, "When all else fails, you shimmy!" ?????? Perhaps it was just me. Anyhow, her moves were really different from the moves I learned on the DVD's. But as long as you are moving you are burning calories right?
The gym is offering a discount later this month. I think I am going to join so I can take the classes every week!

I got the DVD set from the infomercial. I've tried all but the live party and the sculpt and tone. I love them all. Tried the ab workout for the first time this week. Holy crap! Who knew you could make your abs work hard without a single traditional crunch. YAY!!

i love my zumba class, but it's only once a week and today it was cancelled. :(

at first, i was a little self-conscious to do it, but then i realized that everyone else in the class was doing the same moves, and the instructor is laid back and just wants us to move and have a good time doing it.

i've been considering getting a zumba dvd for when my classes aren't available, like today. does anyone have any good suggestions of a certain dvd to get?

So, I tried the tape, and it wasn't helping, I'd have to put it on the whole shoe, which seems really unsafe. So I just did it in socks. It hurts a bit on my instep, but it's actually less painful then the sticking my shoes give. I'll try another week of it, and see if my feet get used to it.

Also try those socks that have the grips on the bottom, some have a solid gel bottom like the ones that come with the Wii while others have dots or lines. Not sure how to help with arches though, maybe even slippers. Just got my Zumba DVD's a week ago but had to wait to try them since we are putting a new floor down. Hope to try monday since main room is done!

I got Zumba two days ago, and yesterday I tried the basics video. It is SO much fun and I know it's going to keep me motivated for quite awhile, but I DO have a problem...my exercise space (whole house, actually) is covered in carpet..some of the moves where there is sliding involved are hard to do because my sneakers get stuck on the carpet. Any innovative ways around this?
Thanks,
Brendyloo

Depends on your intensity. For starters, I'd stick with dance as your exercise on the tracker. Once you're sopping wet with sweat, use kickboxing.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the DVD set from Amazon. It's not supposed to ship until the April 2nd which stinks.
Websam- wouldn't it be my luck that I would getting do it, really like it, then trip over a toy! I'll have to try to do it while my daughter is napping.
I'll keep you posted!!
One more question. I see that Zumba can't be entered in the cardio tracker. How does everyone track their zumba workout?

Depends on the dance. You want a little room. Check out some youtube videos to get an idea. you can adjust as necessary, but I'd clear out the toys first!

obviously the more room you have the bigger your moves can be giving you a better workout...it's not impossible to do in a tight place but it's not really optimal either..

Do you need much room to Zumba? I have a small living room that usually has toys scattered from my toddler (the floor is like a magnet, I pick them up and there they are again...) I can and will move stuff around, but space is still limited.

Just try it! It's so much fun. The point is to get a good workout and have fun, not to be a perfect dancer.

Don't let that stop you!! I have absolutely no history in dance! I've never danced in my life because I had two left feet and didn't know how to make my hips move. Everything I did always looked and felt so awkward! When I first started zumba I stood in the back of the room trying to figure out how to move my legs and arms at the same time...but now it's 6 months later and I'm a certified zumba instructor and LOVING it!!!! MY advice to you would be to go to a real live zumba class if possible- even though you may feel a little self conscious you will be able to see some people simplifying a lot of the moves and find yourselves following them at first. The DVD may be a little initmidating.

I am no where near a good dancer. I got a set of zumba dvd from zumba.com for about $70 after shipping. If you are doing it in the privacy of your own home, you shouldn't worry about what you are doing because there is no one watching you. Unless you have kids and they can always do it with you. I hope that is a little more advice to lead you on the right path. Zumba is fun! I did it tonight for my workout.

I have been interested in trying Zumba. The reason holding me back is the fact that I don't have any rhythm or a dancing bone in my body. I have an interest in dancing. I have thought about buying the Zumba DVD set.
Can anyone give me some good advice? Anyone else like me out there?
