Hi Becky emoticon

Still in the pit, but the good news is that there's nothing really wrong. Maybe that's the problem...First my Dad was in hospice for 14 months before passing, I had to sell mom & Dad's home, find a new place for Mom to live, then my hubby had esophaegal cancer surgery and chemo, then Mom passed away...It was a rough 3 years. Maybe it finally all caught up with me. Anyhow my doctor decided to try medication on me and all I can say is that the cure is worse than the ailment. Yesterday I stopped taking the medication after three weeks and at least now I don't have a continual headache. I am hoping that the dizziness goes away. Anyway, I started back with a new session of Tai Chi so that has "perked" me up a little.

Glad you had such a good time with your nieces. Too bad that your brother has decided how he wants to "correct" the error of your ways....if he could only "see" inside you to understand. Sometimes I think there's a MAJOR difference to male-female thinking! Give yourself a hug for me because I know it's a pain. Live your life the way you want!!!!!!!!!!! Only you KNOW what's best for you. (Maybe we don't always do the best each time, but we know when it's right.) Next time you'll have to tell him that you are the one driving on your path...not him. I bet if he sees you stand up to him, he'll take that as a sign of growth/commitment. If not, that's his problem...not yours. You're definitely correct that he shouldn't try to emotionally abuse you. I wish I could look him in the face and do one of those juicy-sticking-out the tongue things that Sylvester the cat used to do. Can you imagine your brother when this crazy old lady comes up to him and does that? That would really surprise him!!! Wonder how he would do with some criticism? Not to be mean, but I think he needs to see what he's doing to you.

Sorry I've been away from the computer for so long.... Again I just couldn't talk myself into doing anything. I'm working on the "fake it til you make it" mode right now. I sure hope this works. emoticon Hey lady, I'm still over 200 email messages in my inbox so I'm gonna go for now....Be good and take good care of yourself!!!

Carleen,
I'm sorry that you're feeling down...Trust me, I know all too well how that feels. I've just finally pulled myself back up after being down for most of the last three weeks. All I can say about that is that if definitely feels SO much better once you get back on track. It's hard to do it, to MAKE yourself do it, but it's worth the effort!! If there's any way that I can help, please let me know...we can always get together and walk! I'm off Saturday through Monday this weekend.

I'm glad that you are finally getting some time to yourself. You've been a fantastic Grandma this summer, now it's time to love yourself! I suggest a bubble bath, some candles, and some good music! Hahaha!

Seeing my nieces was GREAT, but the weekend back to Chicago was a nightmare! My brother and I don't get along well. I think he's too introverted. He thinks I'm too immature and that I lack focus. We just don't agree on anything, except we love one another. It makes for a very stressful trip, and the stress lasts the entire five hour drive home with my mom, and causes stress between us! (all is fine now with mom-we always work it out) Needless to say, I'm going to have to take a stand. I need to find some of that focus that he thinks I lack, and stand up for myself! I am NOT going to go back there and be emotionally kicked, stomped on, and knocked down. He knows how much his girls love me. He knows that they want to see me. He'll have to figure out a way for that to happen. He's a good dad, so I know he'll do it.

No plans for the weekend. Just the usual laundry and grocery shopping. I'd like to get in some "veg time" on the couch with a book....I don't know if it'll happen, but it sure sounds good.

I hope that you feel up to par soon...and I'll be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way!

Hey Becky...

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. No excuses, just no motivation to do anything--even look at the computer!!! Monday was my last "booked" babysitting day for Julia for the summer. She's been really good, but my patience was waning and I've been less enthusiastic lately. Don't know where summer has gone. My house and gardens look neglected, dust is settling everywhere and tummies are being emptied. I have NO desire to do anything! Sorry I'm in such a downer, but I'm having a hard time finding the energy to get out of the recliner.

My hubby and I avoided most of the Dream Cruise by going to an air show at Selfridge Air Base. Had to fly in and be there about 8am so it was an early start. They let us leave during the air show because some nasty weather was coming in. It was funny seeing some F-18s having to wait on the taxiway because they were letting us go ahead of them. emoticon We beat the weather home and even picked up the puppy from a friend and were settled in before the storm hit. Some neighbors lost trees and power, but luckily we only had their branches in our driveway and our power was off for about five minutes. emoticon

Don't have any plans for this upcoming weekend. My hubby wants to do something, but nothing sounds interesting to me. Maybe I'll perk up for something, I hope. Got anything going for you?

Sounds like you're surviving/enjoying having the "littles" (a name my daughter gives to children) in town. I know it's nice to be able to make memories with them. I hope you've gotten some sleep/rest.....it's hard to keep up with them.

I hope you're finding your inspiration to keep on track. I'm still looking. I'm in a break until my new Tai Chi classes start. I'm debating about Curves--I've had a membership for two years and I'm debating whether or not I'm renewing for another year. Guess my mood isn't helping me make any decisions. I hope this isn't catching......Keep on working, girl. You can do it!!! Catch ya later... emoticon Carleen

Carleen,
Sorry again, that it was awhile before getting back to you. I've had kids pretty much nonstop lately.Alix, my five year old niece, is sleeping in my bed still right now as a matter of fact. Gotta get her up in a bit to get ready to go to Chicago for the weekend.

Great ideas for the craft projects! I would love to be artsy and crafty, but I don't think that I've got that specific gene that gives me the ideas or the talent! Well, actually, I'm more artistic with photography than anything. I LOVE taking pictures!!!

So how did everything go with the Dream Cruise? Did everything go according to plan? Were you able to avoid the masses?? LOL

I took Alix with me to work the last couple of days, and she kept Lainey (3) very busy. Actually, they kept EACH OTHER busy. I just want to sleep, but I did sleep better last night than I did the night before. Oh well, maybe one day.

Do you have any exciting plans for the weekend? How has your food/exercise been going? Mine has NOT been going....I look forward to Monday, when everything returns to business as usual, because at that point, I will have NO excuses for this lack of motivation and follow through....wish me luck!

Have a great weekend Carleen, and I'll talk to you soon!

Hiya Becky:

Yep, this was definitely a weird week!!!

Yesterday afternoon/evening I got into a "craft" mode. I really needed that! I think that's something that I NEED to do for me. It started with some 12x12 canvases that I bought when the family was in Colorado. I had each family paint something (like blobs or lines or squiggles--just nothing concrete like a house or flower). Everyone had the use of various brushes and only 5 colors. They came out very interesting!!! Well my son-in-law from Ypsilanti said that would look cool in his newly decorated bedroom if it was in the right colors.....Well I've made 10 panels for them to choose from. Only one is not quite finished--it will be a sunburst using Julia's (the 6y.o.) handprints as the radiating beams from the sun. I hope to get her to cooperate with the project on Sunday.

Saturday my hubby and I will be at Selfridge Air Base. He's looking forward to it. I'm hoping to survive without being too uncomfortable! Bunny goes to my friend Shirley's house tonight so they can have some playtime. (Our house is in Dream Cruise Territory and being here on the actual day is a pain!!!!!! It's sooooo noisy and my street ends up in gridlock as I live a block off Woodward.)

Sunday I get Julia back and we get to go to a birthday party for another 6y.o. WooHoo. Dunno whether I will have her overnight, but I know I'm the babysitter for Monday.

Just a short note about Sophie's eyelashes....I found that the easiest way to clean Bunny's eyes is to soften the lashes with a wet washcloth. Hope that helps.

Enjoy your little visitor! And, yes, I would love to get together.....and September would be best. Looking forward to it!!! Hope your weekend is spectacular! emoticon Carleen

Hi Carleen,
As you know it's been a pretty crappy week so far, but I've managed to get myself back on track with my food. The exercise part hasn't fit in though because of running back and forth to my mom's house taking care of her babies. Sophie's eyes are looking better now. She's so good with her eye drops...I just lay her belly up across my legs, and she stays there and lets me do what I have to do. Then I had to get all of her girlie lashes out of her eyes and use a kleenex to get some yuckies... the things we do for pets! More accurately, the things they do for US!!!

Yes, Brewster and Sophie had a bad start, but they're living the good life now and they both know it. In fact, I can see what Brewster's "problem" area was/is, but I still could never give him or any of my babies up. Bruce is very, very, very A.D.D I think. He's always into something that he's not supposed to be, and he's always harassing my Bailey!!! In his defense though, he is just playing. He thinks it is fun. I'm still convinced though, that Bailey DOES NOT think it is fun! We'll see. It gets rather old breaking up their "tiffs" but I'm hoping that this won't last forever.

Is Julia the six year old? I love that your favorite part of pool time was when she was Ariel without her voice. That says a lot! LOL!!!

Mora and my mom come back on the train tomorrow, and then Alix and Mora switch on Sunday, I think. My sister in law never fails to be a last minute kind of person, which is especially frustrating when my family is an early/planning kind of family. Oh well, whatever it is, it is.

You know, we can always get together before the fitness thing and walk. The kids are going back to school soon, and I'm guessing that your life won't be Quite as hectic, right? Just let me know. I'm game if you are.

Well, I need to go get ready for bed now. It seems that I never get to bed anymore before 10 or 11 and I'm more of a 9:00 kinda gal! My age is showing!!!

Take care and have a fantastic night/week!!! emoticon

Well it's Wednesday and I've got a break from Julia as she's going with Papa for a little while. We've painted and played today. She helped Papa wash the truck. She arrived about 8am yesterday which means they left their house about 7. She was snoozy most of the day, but we're trying to get her into "school" mode so I was trying to keep her from napping. Yesterday after breakfast and playing, we flew to a small airport around Flint to a little restaurant for lunch. Home to more play and then the pool. Thank goodness the pool is small and only 4 ft deep so with a lifevest Julia can happily splash for hours. My favorite part was when she pretended to be Ariel (losing her voice). I had some quiet moments then. After dinner I went off to my last Tai Chi class for the summer. I came home to a sleeping kid. Papa said she crashed at 7:30pm....we didn't hear a peep from her until 8am when Bunny decided she should be up. emoticon Think I'll put her in the pool this afternoon too even tho it's a little cool for me.

The September event sounds very interesting. I'd love to do it...I just hope it doesn't conflict with previous plans. Let me know. I'd love to meet you!!!

Poor Sophie and Brewster. I loooooove critters and feel so bad when things don't go easy for them. My shihtzu has long eyelashes too. My youngest daughter calls her Tammy Faye because they're soooo crazy.

Mora should be there soon. I hope you have a terrific time. I sometimes wonder who has the best time....the imported kids or the crazy relatives? emoticon

Well we have Julia another day. Friday I have both Julia and her mom. Saturday I will be all day at a fly-in at Selfridge Air Force Base. Early Sunday I get Julia again....her dad and other grandpa are going to a Tiger ballgame (her mom works at a restaurant in Ann Arbor). I get to take her to a birthday party and then she'll stay with me until Tuesday. I usually don't see her this much so I'm enjoying it. I'm not used to it but when school starts I'll be having withdrawal symptoms. emoticon

Keep on sparking!!!! You're doing so well. emoticon

Carleen,
That's so funny! I found myself saying just yesterday to the three year old, as I've told her EVERYday this week, "Please, use your naptime voice!" Of course, it only works for like a minute before that little voice works it's way back up to crazyville, and the baby wakes up!

I had a crazy idea, and I will sparkmail you the details, but there is an event taking place in September, I think, with all kinds of fitness classes and stuff, and it's free... and I was wondering if you might want to go to it with me.....maybe it would help to put you back on track? Anything that I can do to help, please let me know. I know how hard it can be, and how extremely frustrating!!!

What are you doing this weekend? My mom leaves tomorrow for Chicago, so only five more days until I can see Mora, my younger niece! I am so excited!!! I have to go to mom's house two days this week when my step dad works late. I have to feed the dogs, and her shihtzu, Sophie, has to get eyedrops in both eyes because they keep getting infections....she was found abandoned and neglected, and her eyelashes are super long, and with that, and her hair being overgrown, it infected her eyes! Now her eyes are very sensitive, and she has problems with them....poor girl. My step dad is the person that comes over here when I go to Chicago to feed my babies, so I guess it's fair, right? They came over today so that he could meet Brewster, my newest cat, (who I've had for eight months) before he just shows up unknown. Brewster was abused by men, so he's VERY skittish around them. Normally, he is feisty, lovable, and dopey, but when my stepdad came in today, he got the big eyes, and ran, and wouldn't come near him. When he first met my mom a month or so ago, he went right up to her and kissed her. So I see how it's a "man" thing.....it breaks my heart! He's normally such a lover!!

Well, I hope that you have a great weekend. I'll talk to you soon....

Hi Becky:

Today is my youngest granddaughter's birthday....She's 6. Tomorrow is her party. I was at her house all day Monday. Wednesday she came to my house and left about 2 today. It wasn't my best time with her. She's cute, spoiled and very bright. She definitely had the pre-birthday attitude going. Add her bouncing body and squeeling to the mix and there were several times when I wasn't happy. She has lots of energy--I don't. She looooooves to talk (the whole family does). I had to tell her I needed some quiet several times. Since she's good most of the time she gets her way. Well, I felt I had to challenge that and I paid the price. It didn't bother her--it bothered me. We did have some good time. She got a blank book from me and she was dictating stories for me to write in her book. Hopefully this will help her read because she already knows the story and can recognize some words. Well I think we did about 18 stories.

Sounds like you're going to have some family fun too. There is nothing better than good times with family. While the kids are in MI you'll have to bring them to the zoo--it's a good day trip. So the adventure begins Sunday???? Tell your Mom to take her vitamins. You too.
ENJOY!!!!! emoticon

I'm glad that you're sparking along!!!! I'm sooooo jealous. Right now my plan seems to be one day on, the next day off. I am determined to keep on trying. I just now that I've got to find the right combination to fit my life while being healthy. I've done the shakes and the counting. It worked for a while, but I need to find what I can "live" with. You're doing so well. Keep remembering the good feelings that you're feeling. Those feelings are so powerful that they can carry you over some rough patches. You go girl!!!!

Next week my daughter is taking a short vacation. I get Julia from Monday to Friday. This week my Tai Chi classes wrap up for the summer. I think I'm just gonna work on maintaining my cool while trying to stay on course.

Bunny is doing well. She just went to the groomer so she's looking trimmed and cute with red bows in her hair. We might fly Sunday...depends on the weather and if there's any pancake breakfasts at any airports within a hour or so away.

Enjoy your weekend my friend. I'll catch you later. emoticon

Carleen,
Now I am a craptactular friend! emoticon I'm so sorry that it took so long for me to respond to your last message. The night that I read it, I was having a bad night, and that was followed by a bad week.....and then, I forgot! I feel so horrible, but I'm going to make it up to you! emoticon

It sounds like all in all you had a great vacation! That's awesome... This Sunday, my mom is going on a train to Chicago to spend a few days with my brother, sister in law, and nieces, and then next Thursday, she will bring my youngest niece (almost 3) back on the train with her for a visit in Michigan. My sister in law is bringing my older niece (5 3/4) by car next Sunday, and taking my younger niece(Mora) back to Chicago! emoticon My older niece (Alix) is going to get her Michigan vacation with Grammy and Aunt Becky, and then the following Friday (Aug 26th) Alix, my mom, and I will be driving back to Chicago for the weekend for Mora's 3rd birthday party, and then mom and I come home on the 28th! It sounds like a lot of back and forth, but it's totally worth it! I haven't seen the girls since Easter!!! (Other than one time, on Skype) I miss them SOOOOO much!!

We've taken Alix for a week every July for the last four years, and last year, Mora joined her for the week. The year before that, Mora came in with her mom halfway through the week and spent a couple of days. She was not as easygoing as Alix has always been, and she is much more stubborn....much like her Aunt Becky.

Do you have any more plans with the Grandkids this summer? I've been doing awesome with my exercising, and I am hoping that this will be the first week, and the start of a streak, for six days of exercising in a row.....who Knows, maybe I'll go for seven!

I'm starting to see/feel a difference in my body and it's shape. My waist is feeling smaller, which is fueling me and helping to keep me moving. I just can't believe that by this time next year, if I play my cards right, I will be AT or NEAR my goal weight. That's such an unbelievable and emotional thought...I've NEVER been anything but obese in my adult life. I was a cute little kid, grew into a chubby preteen, but looking back at pictures, I wasn't that chubby. It wasn't until close to Junior High that I started gaining and gaining....I can't wait to see who I really am on the inside! I can't wait for my inside to finally match my outside!!! Unbelievable!!!

So, how has your week been? Anymore plane trips lately? How's your puppy dog?
Well, I hope that you have a great night, and AGAIN, I am really sorry for forgetting to write back....I honestly kept thinking about you, but I was at work, and my computer was at home, (I don't take it with me) and by the time I get home, I'm eating dinner, exercising, and I'm brain dead...maybe that's why I couldn't remember! emoticon

Hi Becky emoticon I'm finally back from vacation. And yes, I agree about too much togetherness. With 7 of us in close quarters and each of us with a different ideas, some times there were some differences of opinion. Luckily, it all worked out and everyone was still glad that we spent the time together. I landed Tuesday am about 1:30 and it was about 2:30 when we got to my daughter's house in Ypsilanti. Finally got to bed between 3 & 4. Woke up with her cats romping like a herd of elephants through the house. Got out of bed about 9. Boy...yesterday was a rough day with two hours of advanced Tai Chi in the evening. I think I had a severe deep, deep sleep cause I didn't hear anything from midnight to 9am. I know I can't make up for the sleep I lost on vacation, but sleeping in this morning sure felt good!!!

No...you're not craptacular at all. You're right where you're supposed to be!!! Don't beat yourself up over any overages. Remember we're TRYING to be better. We're human and allowed to have issues. Sounds like the exercise portion was in the SPECTACULAR range. Be proud of yourself. You have a VICTORY there. Each day is a new beginning...another chance to improve.

Gotta get my head back in the game. I think I'm gonna try switching some things up to get my renewal on the right track. I'm looking forward to catching up on my emails (and your blogs). Take care and be good to yourself!!!! emoticon

Hi Carleen,
I just realized that you were the last one to reply on here, and that I am a "craptacular" spark friend this week. I know that you said you'd be out of town, but I could still write, huh? So here I am. It's been a so-so week. I had a food fest again on Tuesday at work. At the end of the day, I had gone over my calorie count by 500 cals, and the only other thing above was fat, which was only 6 grams above the max. I guess that it could've been worse. Spark is teaching me to modify my binges apparently, and they are getting less spectacular when they do happen. I am grateful for that.

I hope that you are having fun with your family on your vacation. I know that sometimes too much togetherness gets a little stuffy...hopefully that is NOT the case. emoticon

I have had a great exercise week. The only day that I skipped was Tuesday, because I was feeling sorry for myself. LOL......today is Thursday and I think I'm close to 300 fitness minutes. Mostly because of my 1hour and 45 minute marathon workout session on Sunday. I wanted to start the week off with a bang I guess.

Let me know when you get back and settled in and we'll catch up, ok?
emoticon

Happy Sunday Becky!!!

We flew to Owosso, MI this morning for breakfast. It was warm, but still doable. Aly just turned 15 this past week. It hardly seems possible. Tomorrow I put her and the other granddaughter (almost 6) together for a day of fun and frolic...I hope.

Yep, vacation is fun and the family truly spoils me when my hubby isn't around. It's like being the Queen Mother and all six of the family take good care of me. I agree with the large group vs small group thing. I hardly ever "do" functions where there's huge crowds. It's just not worth the commotion to me. Being that we'll be in the Denver area I do have to slug down huge amounts of water not to have issues with the altitude difference....hopefully that will also help me keep my food choices in line.

I hope this upcoming week will be cooler....it just seems to make everyone happier. Keep cool and I'll catch you later. emoticon

Hey Carleen,
I hope that you are enjoying your visit with your older granddaughter! How old is she?

I agree with you about needing time away, and I also am like your husband in some ways. I prefer to be in smaller groups a lot.....but I can do large groups if need arises. emoticon

I hope that you don't miss them too much...(Your hubby and your doggie) And remember, what happens on vacation, STAYS on vacation.........What? That's Vegas?? Oh well. emoticon Do your best, and enjoy yourself. You only live once, and it's not the end of the world if you're off track for a few days...what's important is to keep trying!

Have a great vacation and drink lots of water

Hi Becky. I hope you're keeping cool! emoticon Been busy today so far. I've managed to get in a few walks with the shihtzu the last few mornings before it got too hot. Today was another Tai Chi day. Been getting ready....my older granddaughter who lives in Colorado is in Michigan visiting her father...we will have her with us Saturday-Tuesday.

On Wednesday my younger granddaughter and her parents and I will be going to Colorado for a visit for a few days. We return Aug 2. So if you don't see me for a while, I will be thinking of you. I'm really looking forward to this trip. My hubby and dog will be here in Michigan, but the rest of the family will be together. (My husband does better with smaller groups....he can't stand trying to corral the whole group to do something. Besides he likes different things than the rest of us. Anyhow, I look forward to the separation as he's retired now and togetherness while wonderful can sometimes do with a break.) Hopefully when I get back we can find a date, time, place where we can meet.

Keep up the good work. I'm gonna try and be good and still enjoy. Hopefully when I get home I can try to kick my plan into a new gear! Keep on keeping on!!! Trying and planing are two items we can both achieve. Go girl! emoticon Carleen

Carleen, (It's official emoticon )
It's very hard to keep up with food and exercise both, at all times. I have little streaks where it all falls into line, but after feeding my face all day Saturday, I'm STILL feeling the negative effects of it in my system. That'll teach me to do THAT again.... I keep telling myself that food doesn't make anything feel better ...it's like alcohol. It dulls the pain for awhile, but you still have to face it in the end, and it's usually worse by then. I saw a quote somewhere on here: Nothing tastes as good as lean feels.... SO TRUE!

You're lucky to have your granddaughter so close. I would never want to interfere with that special time. I generally work Monday through Friday, 8-5 and have the weekends off. Being a nanny for most of my life has spoiled me with having weekends off. emoticon

I hope you have a great week, and drink lots of water so you don't get dehydrated in the wonderful heat.... emoticon

Take care,
Becky emoticon

emoticon God job, Becky!!!! Food and exercise BOTH....WOW!!!

I'm getting in my exercise, but still finding it hard food-wise. I keep telling myself that baby steps are better than total mess. Another meal, another chance to redeem myself.

Had a nice weekend. Hope yours was nice too. Had the granddaughter in the pool Friday and again today. She lives in Ypsilanti (about 45 min from me) so it's nice to see her a little more often in the summer. She'll be a 1st grader this fall.

Also got to fly to Owosso for breakfast. Bunny stayed home in the air-conditioning....too hot for her.

As to name you can call me Carleen or Apple. I answer to both. The Apple works out best for my sons-in-law and friends of my daughters as they find the Mrs....too formal and Carleen to familiar. Also all the kids can call me Apple with out the confusion of being someone else's grandma.

I'd love to meet you sometime... What are your hours? I'm retired. My commitments are to hubby, granddaughter and Tai Chi classes. Other than that times are negotiable. Hope we can work something out....maybe a mall walk in an air-conditioned mall?

Take good care of yourself and consider yourself hugged.... emoticon

Thank you for your support. I've been kicked hard on this, but I'm trying to get back to "normal" functioning levels. I'll be doing great, and then I'll think of him, and then I get somber............

Change of subject......... I tried another recipe today. I made it up, and it's quite simple, but tastes really good. It's a side dish made with barley, which I have never tried before today. If you are interested, I can tell you how to make it...but again......SIMPLE!

My food was right in line with my plan today, which made me feel really good. Especially after yesterday's food fiasco! My body has been revolting ALL day, but I may have turned a corner. Whenever I feel like having a food fest again, I'll try to think about how awful I felt afterwards. My exercise was awesome today. It's like there was no stopping me!! It felt good to be moving again, and I was able to do 90 minutes of Cardio/strength/yoga exercises.

If you ever get any free time and would like to meet to walk, let me know and maybe we can work something out. It would be fun to have a buddy to walk with, but certainly not in this heat!!! My air conditioning is working overtime, and has been for over a month now.

I hope that you had a great weekend, and I'll talk to you soon......
BTW...can we compromise on a name that I should call you? I feel really silly calling you Apple, but if that's what you really PREFER, I can try my hardest! emoticon

Becky........ emoticon I'm thinking of you (and Gizmo). What a brave decision. You know it was right, but that doesn't ease the hurt. I know I had to take our beagle to the vet when it was her time. That was many, many years ago and I still miss her. Gizmo will always be with you in your heart. Take some time to heal. I'll be here when you're ready to talk. HUGS.

As I'm sure you already know, I had to let Gizmo go last night. He was just too sick to go on, and his outcome wasn't good regardless. This is a very hard time for me, and I'm putting all of my energy into getting my heart back to a semi-happy place. Please bear with me during this time...

Good for you trying new recipes. I get stuck in the same old rut. Better luck next time. Think I'm gonna throw some chicken in the slow cooker for tonight and leftovers for lunches.

I understand about mornings.....I am NOT a morning gal. Before I was retired I used to get up at 4 to exercise, shower and rush to work. NOT my favorite thing, but it was the only way I could manage to get on the treadmill. I AM a night owl. That really made for some rough days when I couldn't sleep the night before. Retirement is great---don't worry your time will come too. Unfortunately the treadmill and I haven't spent hardly any time together in the last two years. I think that it's something that I have to try again. I got my best success while I was using it.

Gotta go clean...UGH! I HATE cleaning. My daughter and granddaughter are coming over tomorrow so today's the day. Hope your day is going well

What's up for the weekend? Anything special?? emoticon

The recipes that I tried on Saturday were Parmesan chicken and Lentils with veggies. The parmesan chicken was awesome, but the lentils....not so much. I realized about three days ago that I made the lentils ALL wrong. It was a recipe from Spark Recipes, and I didn't write down the fact that it was a cold lentil salad. I just wrote down the ingredients, played around with them a little, and by the time I actually got to making it, I forgot the cold part, and made it as a hot side dish....lol
It wasn't until later when I saw the recipe on spark again, that I did it all wrong. Better luck next time, huh?

I wish that I had the gumption to wake up early enough in the mornings before work to work out...but I don't. I value my sleep, especially since I'm pretty sure that I have sleep apnea, so what I get of it isn't the best. On the weekends, I usually wake up, have coffee, eat breakfast, then workout.....but during the week, it's a night time thing.

It sounds like you had a great time with your grandaughter. I'm glad that you get that time. It's pretty special, isn't it?

Well, I have to go workout now. Have a great night!

Hi Becky...

Been busy. Sunday was a gathering of moms, daughters, and grandkids. The girls (daughters) have been friends since they were 3. They did school, scouts, cheerleading, figure skating (team precision) together. 4 even roomed together during college. We had fun. Food was plentiful, but I was being relatively good....they almost got to practice their Heimlich maneuver on me tho...I think my allergies were kicking in too. All is well tho.
I ended up bringing my granddaughter home with me.
Julia finally got to go in our pool...only 4ft deep, but she's just about that tall. Well we swam Sunday nite and monday morning before the storm so that kept her (and me) busy. Tuesday was chores, grocery shopping and two classes of Tai Chi (the advanced classes).
Today my bad is twitchy so I'm doing laundry, weeding and catching up on the 'puter. I hope to take the shihtzu for a walk with it being a little cooler...and yes, Bunny, the shihtzu flies. I don't think she really likes it. She does tolerate it because she has no choice. She does love airports, people, and airport smells!
Best time of day to exercise??? Mornings definitely!!! I do it and then I'm ready to conquer the day. If I try afternoons or evenings, I find excuses....like I'm too tired...and sometimes I talk myself out of exercising. The only thing I do manage in the evenings is walks or Tai Chi classes (that I've paid for).
Hope you're having a GREAT week!!!! What recipes did you try? Were they good? emoticon

I'm glad that you enjoyed the Zoo....I love all animals, so that sounds like a great time to me.
How is your weekend going? Mine is going great! I tried out two recipes yesterday, and was very pleased with the results of one, and will make alterations on the other.... Live and learn, right? emoticon

So, you take your Shihtzu on a plane, and she LIKES it??

emoticon

That's awesome! To have the ability to travel freely like that, must feel great. I get motion sickness, so I don't think that it would work for me, but I envy those who can do it without any problems.

Today's just going to be a "lazy" day for me.....meaning that I'm staying home, but not exactly lazy. I have an apartment to clean, so that should keep me busy. I'd also like to get my workout in earlier today than what I've been doing it. I finished last night around 11pm, and I don't like that. I felt great, and I fell asleep quickly when I went to bed, but overall, it was just too late to be doing that.
When do you prefer working out? emoticon

Hi Becky...

Yep, the Toledo Zoo was nice and I met some of my daughter's friends which was enjoyable as they chauffeured and guided us around. The weather cooperated and we had a great day. BTW I'm just a few miles north of the Detroit Zoo...just a block off Woodward (in the middle of Dream Cruise territory).

Today my hubby. shihtzu and I flew in my hubby's small plane to Big Rapids for a pancake breakfast. (Not too good for the food plan, but I try to keep it small and aim for any fruit.) Another great day. Gonna head for the wading pool to try to burn off some of those pancake calories.

Tomorrow is a party day. My youngest daughter has had the smal bunch of friends since she was in the 3 year old preschool. All seven buddies, their mothers, (possibly some husbands) and their kids are getting together. We haven't had the group together since graduation. Looking forward to the day....hoping to keep the food choices appropriate (small, with a taste of everything interesting and lots of veggies).

Good luck and happy choices. Hope you weekend is terrific!!!! emoticon

It's amazing what we can do once we put in the effort, huh?

I had a great food day today. I didn't argue with myself. I just ate what I brought to work with me, and that was that. Now I'm off for the weekend, so that gives me three whole days to get into the habit of staying on track....I can do it, and I will.

Hope that you have a great day at the zoo, weather wise, and fun too! I've never been to that zoo. Only been to Detroit zoo, The Lincoln Park zoo in Chicago, and a Large cat zoo in California, which was AWESOME!!!

emoticon emoticon Wow!!! You go girl!!! What a great feeling! I'm poking around today. I had two "easy" classes of Tai Chi. Our maneuvers were really slow so I put some extra effort into form & balance hopefully deriving more calorie burn. Spent a few minutes weeding and now I'm into laundry. Not quite the aerobic workout, but still better than loafing on the couch.

My granddaughter, daughter and I are planning to "do" the Toledo Zoo tomorrow so I'm taking it easy today. Hopefully the weather will cooperate by not being too hot. emoticon

Glad that you're part of the Spark family...it's good to have such a support team!!! emoticon

Do you ever participate in the walks that they have for the Detroit group? I was thinking about going to one, or more, but haven't been able to yet.
I just finished a great workout with the Wii fit. That seems to be my most consistent form of exercise lately, because it kicks my butt with new challenges, and I like the variety. Today, I actually ran for 12 minutes straight!!! It may have been in my living room, but nevertheless, it was 12 minutes of nonstop running at a steady pace...just the same as if I was doing my walking/running DVD. I also did yoga, boxing,(Which I'm getting annoyed with) a 3 minute hula hoop challenge with four hula hoops, (Which I could never do in real life) and step up challenge. I am completely exhausted, but I feel accomplished..which is good!
It's amazing what being a part of a supportive community can do for one's mental and physical being..... I'm so happy to be a part of Spark! emoticon

Hey Becky...

Hubby is fine after removal of his esophagus due to cancer (from GERD). His only changes are smaller meals and earlier dinner. Pretty remarkable stuff!!!

I was tagged with Apple by my youngest granddaughter. We think it came about because my daughter was working on "Nana" and the granddaughter confused banana with apple and Nana. She was always eating banana slices at my house. Anyhow she had a family picture and she was consistent on Mom, Dad, Papa, Auntie, baby ...and then there was Apple. I love it. It's easier on the SIL and offspring of our daughters' friends and the friends themselves find Apple to work better that Mrs. B or Mom or anything else.

Sorry to hear about your internet connection...it can be soooo frustrating when you aren't connected. Good luck.

Well, I'm off to my two hard Tai Chi classes....it should be fun.

Keep Sparking!!!! emoticon

It sounds like you've had a rough go of it...but you're strong, and you'll make it.
I'm sorry to hear about your Mom and Dad....And your husband is good now?

So why do you go by "Apple?" I'm sure you've been asked that many times.
I haven't been able to get online for the last few days....internet connection isn't working. I have a new connection getting installed on Friday, so hopefully after that, I won't have any problems. I've been feeling lost without my daily doses of Spark!!!

Sounds like a busy life with kids and critters! (BTW my daughter had guinea pigs as she was growing up...her favorite was a strawberry blonde long hair who was a sweet as could be!)

I've been on Spark People for almost two years. I did really well at first and lost about 15 pounds. I then had issues with the passing of my Dad, illness of my hubby, and passing of my Mom. I gained some back. I've been plugging along, but haven't really gotten my head together. I'm "doing" the exercise portion, but am struggling with appropriate food choices and portions. I'm trying to get "into" the lifestyle vs diet mentality, but I find I'm reverting to old bad habits when I'm tired or lazy. I try to get on this website every day to keep my head in the game, but I don't always manage that. SparkPeople is such a great source of friendship and information. I just love that when you fall down, there's always someone around to boost you up again. It's a matter of continuing to try. I found that I did best when I ignored the numbers and just did what I knew was best for me. Hang in there....good things happen to those who wait (and work).

Well I hope you're having a great holiday. Pat all the critters and do something that you enjoy doing!!!!

I'm in Waterford, near West Bloomfield. I am a nanny in the West Bloomfield area for two little girls....one is 3years old, and the baby is about 7 weeks old now. They keep me busy during the week, but on weekends I enjoy relaxing and spending time with my mom.....a lot of times, we can be found on her back deck, each with a book in our hands, among the many animals. By the way, that reminds me...your shihtzu looks just like my mom's Sophie.

I have three cats and a guinea pig named Pudge. emoticon they are the only family that I have living with me, and they're awesome!! Couldn't imagine life without them.... My mom and step-dad live close by, and my Dad lives nearby also, but that's another story all together. I have one brother, and he and my sister-in-law live in Chicago with my two beautiful nieces, ages 5 1/2 and almost 3...don't get to see them as much as I'd like, so every minute that I get with them is precious. emoticon

How long have you been on Spark? Isn't it amazing?? I love it!!! Hopefully my weight loss will start happening again soon. Don't get me wrong, I feel so much healthier now, and I notice subtle changes such as clear skin and clothes fitting better, but as for the scale numbers going in a downward direction....not happening! How about you?

Maybe this crazy weather is throwing off your water meter...I know I'm not adjusting to weather this summer. It seems like it's cold or hot, but I'm missing the mellow days in between.

I can relate to your favorite time of day, but now as I'm retired my husband likes to say that "it's all vacation time". Not really, but that's how he feels. I guess I've always been a night owl...I like a good movie or book in the evening. emoticon

I'm pretty close to 13 Mile and Woodward in Royal Oak (just three miles down the road from the zoo)..been in this house since 1973. Geez that sounds like forever. It's just hubby, me and our diva shihtzu now. We have two daughters (each one has a daughter--one granddaughter is 15, the other six). How far away are you? How many in your family?

I actually have struggled with my water intake the last couple of days...don't know why. Haven't really felt like drinking much of anything, but with lots of fruit, I think I'm ok. I'm going to try harder tomorrow.

When I'm not working, I like the first part of the morning, when I can sit with my coffee and zone.....but on workdays, my favorite part is when I come home and get to unwind. Pretty lame, but true!

Whereabouts are you located? Are you in the Royal Oak Area, or another area, like me?

WOW!!!!! emoticon You go girl!!! What a great day. I guess the best thing about it is that when you lack that get-up-and-go attitude you'll have a great day-great feeling to remember to help you.

I just finished two Tai Chi classes (very easy ones today), but I'm still feeling righteous about getting in my exercise today.

Still struggling with my water issues. I think you're right about tap water being the easiest to down in quantity. I guess I'll have to try doing that at least once or twice a day to make sure I'm "in the zone". emoticon
Think I'm gonna work on my clutter issues for the rest of the day. Ugh. What's your favorite part of the day? emoticon

I did 3000 step-ups last night in 30 minutes on the Wii Free step challenge. Then I did 10 extra minutes of yoga and strength exercises....I feel so accomplished once I finally work out, but getting myself to get up and work out in the first place is where I have the issue sometimes.

To your question about water and how I like it........all of my life I've been a water drinker, so it's not a problem for me. I was never hooked on anything BUT water. So I love to drink plain water. Sometimes ice cold if I'm just taking sips............fresh from the tap if I'm drinking quickly.....You'll get there, just give it time! emoticon

My daughter has a WiiFit and I've tried it and I definitely had sore arms doing that too!! My granddaughter had me doing the step aerobics and the KungFu Rhythm, sword fighting and tennis the next time....boy, I was in severe need of a masseuse! Have fun and switch 'em up occasionally for best results.

I've been struggling with trying to get water in me lately....do you liked it room temp, super iced, flavored or just plain old water?????

(p.s. my daughter lives in Ypsilanti...I wish she was closer so I could use her WiiFit more often.)

I've recently found out that I'm enjoying boxing. I've just started doing it on Wii Fit, and I'm quite good at it. The only problem is that my arms are so sore from the constant action that it's hard to keep up after a few days. I'm trying to mix it up and not do it everyday, but it still hurts. Hopefully, I will get used to it soon and I can pursue it further.

Hey Becky...I'm glad you're enjoying SparkPeople. There are so many wonderful people and so much helpful information here. Right now I'm overbooked with granddaughter duties this summer that I'm falling behind in my own workouts, but I like e-buddies!!!

What's your favorite workout? I LOOOOOVE Tai Chi. I've been crazy doing Tai Chi for over twenty years now. I take classes in Royal Oak. Luckily I have a great teacher locally.

Looking forward to chatting with you..... emoticon

Hey everyone,
I've been a member of spark now for almost a month, and I am absolutely loving the motivation it brings. I am from the Waterford area, so not quite Royal Oak, but not very far either. I would be interested in finding new spark friends as well as workout buddies that may be interested. If you are interested then feel free to let me know....Good luck everyone! emoticon
