I was super busy yesterday--retirement luncheon for a co-worker, helping my supervisor get caught up before she goes on vacation for a few days, etc. I've been doing OK, though, I guess. I had a root canal on Wednesday, mouth still kind of sore but I think it's improving and I am now hopeful that I can return to 'normal' food soon. In fact, I'm slowly introducing more foods into my diet now, without too much trouble. So I am HOPEFUL! Yay!

I mowed my lawn after the root canal on Wednesday (FYI, I have a gas-powered push mower) and I'm keeping up with my strength training. Cardio? Not so much. My pedometer is registering pretty high numbers, though, so I don't feel too guilty. I did weigh in today at 1.5 pounds higher than last time, but I think that will pass once I get my diet back on track.

What's up with the two of you? I'm going to houseclean this weekend (rain is in the forecast!) and maybe visit my family or go to a movie.

Take care,
Donna

Trish, sorry about your VF check-in--but glad that have another place to check in. Namely, the Videfitness Sparklers!!

I'm afraid I'm not going to be very motivating for at least a few more days. I've been having ongoing dental problems that are taking much longer to solve than I ever expected. And every little thing gets me down these days. So--just thought I'd warn you! I think I'm going to have a root canal this afternoon. Can't wait. emoticon

After my dentist appointment today, if I'm feeling up for it, I need to mow my lawn. If I don't do it today, I don't know when I'll get another chance (rain forecasted for the next few days). Maybe tomorrow will be OK, too. I'll try to do at least part of it this evening. That will be my workout.

After I get my mouth straightened out and pain free, I will get back to tracking my food and plan to through my 'issues' with more exercise. Especially walking.

Hi all.
Had a pretty good day yesterday, calorie wise.
I feel like I strained my back so I am kinda bummed about it. I have Push Circuit scheduled today and will keep it very light for the leg work. Hope it doesn't aggravate it.
No workout yesterday but I do try to keep active through the day. I have been going to the pool everyday with my little one but I never calculate how many calories are burned for that. We usually only stay for 20-30 minutes since we are both so fair, don't want to burn, we are in AZ.
My calories yesterday was about 1750 which feels good to me. This was all clean eating too. I never realized that beans have so many calories :(
However, according to Spark and my Michi's Ladder BB info, in order to meet my goals I really need to stay at about 1500 to 1600. Grrr. They don't take into acount Chalean Extreme and the extra cardio I am doing.
Sorry to be so long winded today.
Also, my checkin at VF is ending this week due to lack of participation. So you guys are stuck with me.

Hiya! I'm at home and was yesterday too - I guess I'm used to posting from work and now that I'm at home, I don't know where to put daily stuff in my schedule! See, Donna? I'm thrown off by routine changes too! LOL I'm doing OK food wise, and my exercise is also on track. I think I'm looking for a strength workout that doesn't exist - total body, medium weight, med reps. I'm going through lots of older DVDs I haven't used for a while too in hopes of rediscovering a gem or two - I did enjoy the strength part of KV's Strong and Smooth Moves the other day.

So how goes the battle with you two today?

Beth

Hi! I had a dr. appointment this morning and feel like my whole day has been thrown off kilter. I'm flying by the seat of my pants these days it seems.

I did do a p.t./lower body workout this morning and a practice (the IBS practice) from Yoga for Stress Relief last night. That's a nice relaxing practice with some good stretches in it.

I'm feeling really tired this afternoon. I know I was awakened from a deep sleep by my alarm clock this morning. I guess I wasn't ready to get up!

Take care,
Donna

Woohoo! We're up to three active members now. Life is good!

I just tracked my Burger King lunch today, which seemed like practially nothing (whopper jr no mayo and small strawberry shake) and now I have only two hundred calories to spend on dinner! LOL needless to say I'm going to be SLIGHTLY over my calorie max today. It's a long story, but I am having trouble being prepared for lunches these days. I'm so tempted to take the easy way out more and more often.

I did a long warmup and upper body workout this morning. I'll be busy this evening, so no other workout is scheduled today. Maybe tomorrow I get that going again. I kind of took the weekend off and am not too happy with myself right now.

Good to see you two are moving toward your goals!

Hi all. Yesterday I did really good with my eating. I am concentrating on lots of fresh vegetables.
Today, I am sure my calories will go higher since I lifted heavy this morning and did the cardio portion of Cathe's boxing workout.
What kills me is the snacking late in the evening when I am bored. As I calculate my calories, it is amazing how much I am really eating, say for example, when I sit in front of the tv eating Cheezits. No wonder I was not losing weight. :)
Have a great day.

Hiya! As you probably know by now Trish, I often don't post every day. But I try to be here most days M-F and once on weekends. Life does get pretty busy from time to time though and hopefully, you'll be as understanding as Donna has been when I go MIA. I find the calorie ranges set here low as well. I've had lots of success with a modified range of 1400-1820, ensuring I use the higher end when I'm really active and the lower end when I'm not.

I didn't do too badly this weekend with food - my meals were a bit more high cal, but not much snacking if any at all. Exercise wise I'm on a roll as well. I took Friday as a rest day and did Cardio Saturday and strength yesterday. I've moved back into doing light/med weights rather than heavy like I usually felt I "HAD" to. I'm revisiting some older workouts and old favorite instructors like Karen Voight.

Hello. Yes, Trish, the calorie recommendations for SparkPeople do seem rather low, considering their self-proclaimed preference for slow and steady lifestyle changes. I would starve (i.e., always feel hungry) eating fewer than 1500 calories a day. I guess we all need to figure out what works best for us, though. I've had success with losing weight (1-2 pounds per week) by eating around 1700-1800 calories a day--as long as I'm exercising, at least.

Checking in tonight with 1750 calories for my day which is low for me. I had a good day.
I have a question? Did you follow their calories suggestions? Mine is 1200 to 1550 calories a day which I think is kind of low since I lift weights 3 days a week and do cardio 4-5 days a week.
Thanks

Good morning Beth and Trish. Yes, today is a new day and I'm pulling myself back together this morning. I've got plans to do some cooking, so I'll have plenty of leftovers to fall back on during the week. Maybe some steel cut oats for breakfasts, a lentil/brown rice combo for lunches/dinners. I'll also get some fresh items at the grocery this week.

I did some yard work yesterday after work instead of the cardio. It rained quite a lot last night (expecting lots more today), though, so I'll do some indoor stuff and DVD workouts this weekend.

Trish, you and Beth can talk CLX. She is a CLX graduate.

Take care,
Donna

Hiya Trish! Welcome! Donna has already filled you in on our little group, so all I'll add is that I SHOULD be in maintenance mode, but am now in losing mode again. I got to my goal almost 2 years ago, and kept within 5 pounds of it for quite a while, but now am struggling to get back to the top of that range - my effort is struggling. But I've had a good week and I'll get there.

Donna - sorry you had to deal with stress with chocolate in the room. That's TOUGH. Today's a new day though - be good to yourself sweetie.

later!
Beth

Small is okay by me. I just started tracking calories again this week and I am amazed at how much I am eating. This is my time to get it right. My first goal is to lose 11 pounds by the end of June (my 41st birthday). Then I will set another goal after that.
I am currently doing a Chalean Extreme rotation and I love the muscle I am building, it's just covered up by fat.

Hi and welcome, Trish! This is a very small group--as in it's just me and Beth (boakley on VF). Beth is in maintenance mode (for the most part) right now, but I am working to lose a few pounds. I check in most days, Beth checks in a few times a week, usually. I hope that is adequate for you. I kind of like having a small group. While you might not get the volume of support that a large group can offer, you get 'quality' emoticon support, plus it is less time-consuming (not oodles and oodles of posts to read through and/or respond to).

Thanks for thinking of us and joining in. I hope to see you here again soon!

Today was not my usual kind of day. I started it off with a stressful meeting at work, where there was a lot of yummy food (chocolate!), so I gave in to my stress and ate more than I normally would. Then came lunch. I didn't pack a lunch, then I went to a garden center with a co-worker over the lunch hour and ended up at the fast food drive-thru! Eeeck!

For exercise, this morning I did knee p.t./lower body work, plus an upper body workout that I made up, using 8s (mostly), 5s, and 3s. Maybe I'll do an easy cardio after work, like the Flat Belly Express.

Take care,
Donna

Hi all,
I am just joining the Sparteam. I am Muddjeansgal on VF. I couldn't find an introduce yourself thread. I have not used Sparkpeople for a long time and need to get my calorie intake under control to lose this last bit of 2 year old pregnancy weight.

Hi. I'm doing OK. Just OK. I got my permanent crowns, but the one tooth is still bothering me. The dentist only put temporary cement on it so he can easily take it off if I need a root canal. He wants me to wait a week and see how it goes. The other tooth, the one that wasn't bothering me, now feels sore. I'm hoping that it's temporary--maybe it got irritated when the temp crown was switched for the permanent one? I don't know. I'm pretty irritated and down about the whole thing. So--I'm saving a lot of money by switching to this dentist, but at what OTHER cost? It's a tough call. This kind of stuff could have happened anyway, with another dentist, I suppose. (sigh)

I weighed today at 153.8, so I'll call that a maintain. I'm glad I haven't gained. I've been doing some morning exercise and lunchtime walks. Yesterday I left work early because I couldn't use my computer (virus!) and did some gardening and that felt good. I need to seriously restart strength work, though. I've mostly been doing p.t. in the mornings so far.

My eating is so-so, but good enough not to gain, I guess! Today is another pigout-fest in my office, but I haven't eaten any of it, so far.

I hope you are doing your best to stay calm re: work situation. I've had my share of work-related people problems and I know how absorbing it can be. Try to enjoy your life and put all into perspective.

Hi Donna! How are things with you? And no, no guns were pointed at us on our date night! LOL I have been doing very well with exercise and with tracking my food - I'm also sleeping better the last few nights. I tracked everything the last two days and stayed within range and I'm on track to do it again today - wish me luck! I know my weight is back up - I knew last night looking in the mirror, BUT it's not over 145, and that's my mental cut off point. I need to slim down for pool season that's fast approaching too! emoticon

Thanks for the advice re the bully - it's totally just wearing me down now, to the point where I think I'm obsessing with it. I spoke with my manager last week AGAIN, and he assured me he'll take action. I even gave him a couple of very small things that can be done quite benignly and had high hopes he would act - that would SHOW me that yes, someone is on my side and will DO something. That was a week ago, and nothing has been done. SIGH. To say I'm disappointed isn't enough at this point. I fear I will have to take my Doctor's and my Husband's advice and go out on medical leave for a week or two to prove a point. It has litterally been YEARS that this has gone on unchecked, and I'm done.

BUT, I'm doing very well in other areas of my life, and I'm thinking maybe I really do need that break to bring me back into balance a bit.

Sorry to unload! I hope you're doing OK. How's the tooth?

Beth

Hi Beth. I'm glad you had a great Date Night, hopefully not involving men with guns pointed at you! LOL The movie was pretty good, not great. There were some really funny scenes that weren't shown in the movie previews, but there were some scenes that I thought could have been better. Anyway, it was still fun and I do love Steve Carell. In fact, I kind of have a crush on him now! I guess I'm attracted to funny men.

I walked over 10,000 steps yesterday and my diet was not too bad. I need to start tracking again, though. Maybe after today? I get my permanent crowns put on this afternoon. (Finally!)

I did my abs workout this morning. I don't know if this would work for you, but one way I measure my core strength is by counting reps for moves like crunches, and number of seconds for moves like planks. The more reps I can do (without struggling)or the longer I can hold a plank, the stronger I am. You could keep a record and try to improve a little each time you do your workout. Just a thought.

I guess I'll walk again, today, too. The weather is slightly cooler than normal, but still beautiful, and actually, perfect walking weather, IMHO.

I hope the meeting with your co-worker isn't as bad as you anticipate. Try to keep in mind why you are talking with this person (for the good of your department?) and try to keep you ego out of it. It helps to avoid a lot of aggravation that way! emoticon And then you can move on without the confrontation getting you down too much.

Take care,
Donna

Hi Donna! Congrats on the weightloss success! 7.5 pounds in 3.5 months is WONDERFUL! Seriously, slow or not, you are steadily moving toward your goal and that's what counts - no matter the obstacles you're facing, you are doing things well more often than not!

I feel like I'm getting back on track, although I'm struggling with goals a bit. Other than fitting into the smaller end of my wardrobe LOL. I think I need some fitness related goals - I want to greatly improve my core strenght, but I'm not sure how to go about measuring that? Anyway, that's what I'm working on.

I have a meeting coming up today that I fear will be very stressful and confrontational with the bully I deal with regularly. I did speak to my manager last week, however, and at least feel I'm supported. I have yet to see any changes however. I HOPE they (management) will follow through...

We had a wonderful date night ourselves in celebration of our 12th anniversary. It was a great change, but it meant I got NO housework done over the weekend and thus spent most of my day off yesterday doing household chores. How was the movie - it looks hilarious! I love Steve Carrell.

Hoping to track my food today. That's the plan anyway.

Beth

Good morning! I was pretty busy over the weekend, got a lot done (yard work, housework) but still managed to go see 'Date Night' AND watch my Netflix rentals. I weighed in this morning at 154. That is about 7.5 pounds lost since January 1. I know, it is an extra s-l-o-w pace as far as weight loss goes, but at least the scale is moving in the right direction for a change! Once I get this tooth problem taken care of (hopefully today or tomorrow!), I plan to get back on track with lots of veggies and fruits and water. Plus, I restarted my video workouts this morning with an Ellen Barrett walking cardio.

I'm still feeling down, but staying busy, physically and mentally. I started writing in a journal last week, but didn't stick with it over the weekend, so that's something I need to work on so it will become a habit. I also have plans to do some self-help reading and start a meditation/yoga practice to help me deal with emotions and stress.

I hope you are doing what you need to do to stay positive and on course!

Hi, nice to hear from you! You've been dealing with tough stuff at work for quite awhile, haven't you? That can really get to a person, I know. Glad to hear you are making progress there.

I went back to the dentist yesterday and he worked on the temporary crown a little more. It does feel somewhat better (but not perfect), and he doesn't think I need a root canal. That was good to hear, but I'll be skeptical until I get the permanent crown on and everything is fine! I was hoping to hear about the permanent crown yesterday, but didn't. The dentist office is closed today, so I probably won't hear from them until Monday. sigh. I'm tired of this soft food diet I'm on. I've been eating way too much ice cream as a solace!

I've been walking, hoping it will 'cure' my depression. I need to do a lot more of it, though! Did I tell you my lower back has been bothering me, lately. I think it is on the mend now. That's good, because I'll need to do more yard work this weekend. My weeds are growing so fast!!

I think I'm going to try to see "Date Night" this weekend. Maybe it will be good for a few laughs, ya think?

Thanks for your offer to 'listen.' I may take you up on that!

Donna

Donna, I'm sorry you're still down. Truth be told, I've been a bit low myself. I'm dealing with some stuff at work that is difficult, but may have finally made some progress yesterday. Time will tell. I've also been really really busy which has in turn made me very lazy with planning meals, etc. Too many take out nights recently. I'm not getting on the scale until NEXT weekend. We're going out to an Italian place on Saturday night for a belated anniversary dinner - it was 12 years Wednesday. I actually priced going back to Jamaica where we got married yesterday - I'm tempted to book one of those last minute deal trips! LOL We're going to wait thouigh and go next year with a little better/more advance planning.

Our son has been busy with Karate too, and quite often we have my SIL in for dinner with us during the week because her DH works later and she HATES to cook anyway. She's the one who moved just up the road from us last summer. It's been nice having her closer.

Work has been crazy too - I've been on the road quite a lot, and will be a few more times this spring. That makes regular exercise and good mmeal planning tough too. SIGH. I HAVE to make a better effort though. This will get out of control if I don't. Today, I start again. Or rather get more mindful of what goes in my mouth! There really is no beginning or end. It's the journey right?

(((HUGS))) to you Donna. You can share the details if you want, and if it will help, but I don't want to pry. I'll be here to listen to whatever you want to tell me emoticon

Beth

Hi, happy Hump Day! I'm not quite that happy, but I'm trying. I've only been doing a minimal amount of exercise and yesterday wasn't a good food day (at least, it is very unlikely--but I didn't track so I don't know what damage I caused). So I hope today is better. I do my warmup and stretching every morning and walk a little at lunch--but no after-work exercise except gardening or house chores (but I don't count house chores as exercise; I just mention it since it's probably better than lying around on the couch all evening!).

I'm really pretty down in the dumps and circumstances aren't helping. I'll spare you the details, but it is mostly a bunch of little things that seem to be piling up on top of each other, creating a small mountain. Maybe I should see my doctor. Or maybe just ride it out, see if it passes on its own accord. I just hate being on antidepressants, been there done that, you know? I guess if I notice any serious symptoms (or if anyone else notices), then I will have to seek help. But I haven't changes my behaviors all that much, so...I'm going to wait it out, for now.

OK, TMI. Sorry. I'm still working on accentuating the positive! Bad habits die hard, so it might take a while.

OK, it sure feels like Monday. I'm exhausted! LOL, I worked in my yard both days--prepping and mowing (lawn mower started!) on Saturday, clearing flowerbeds and prepping for planting yesterday. Oh, and I also went through my closet and started switching out winter stuff for spring/summer stuff. I'm still leaving a few long-sleeved shirts and jackets hanging around, though--until May, anyway!

I weighed yesterday at 154.4--WooHoo!! Maybe all that exhausting exercise paid off in weight loss. The trick will be to keep it moving, right?

I'm not dieting right now--but I think I'm doing OK with portion sizes and snacking less. There's got to be SOME explanation for my minor success! I'm snacking less, of course, because most of my favorite snack foods are crunchy. Oh, and I called the dentist this morning--their office is closed until Thursday!! For crying out loud. I finally get my nerve up to call and they are on vacation??? Grrr. OK, so I can live until then and get by on soft foods, but it's getting aggravating.

I guess I'll do some walking ab/back work today. Oh, I did abs/back on Saturday, too. That is the one thing I think I've been most consistent with. No matter what happens, I still work my core/back p.t.--and lots of stretching, of course.

Gotta go,
Donna

Morning! Too bad about all the sickness going on around you. We've got several people in our office who are coughing, have sore throats, etc. I try to stay away from them!!

My tooth still hurts. The dentist's office is closed on Fridays, however (I should've called yesterday, I guess!), but I might call them tomorrow morning. I really don't want to, though! I don't know what to do. I'm afraid!!!! I have had two root canals. They aren't horrible, but they do require lots of anesthetic and they take a long time. The mouth has to stay open for all that time and it's uncomfortable and my jaw will start to shake uncontrollably after a time. Part of that might be due to the fact that I have a small mouth. In my opinion, anyway.

That being said, I haven't been tracking because I've been eating weird foods and just don't need the stress and aggravation of weighing and measuring added on to my already agitated state. I get so easily overwhelmed, as you may already know. And easily depressed. A sister of one of my brothers-in-law has passed away and I have to go the visitation tonight. THAT depresses me, even though I didn't even know the woman (she didn't live around here and I haven't seen her in many years). And my exercise has been minimal. I just don't feel like doing it.

Well--OK, no more negative talk--today! We're still having pretty nice spring weather and I'll be outside working in my yard this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed that my lawn mower starts!!

Hi Donna! I'm sure I've whined enough for you to remember, but just in case I'll tell you again: I've had 2 major headcolds this winter, and a norovirus. DH has been down with a horrible cold this week, and DS has a bad cough (he coughed Wednesday night from 830 til after 11PM!! Poor dear. Anyhow, my house has been sick this week, and now I'm feeling like ANOTHER cold is hitting. Anyhow, with the house being sick, I'm not getting much sleep, and I'm not doing much aside from a walk here and there for exercise. Last night I had the time, but not the energy! Hopefully, tonight I will do something, seeing as I actually got a pretty good night's rest last night. I need to bring my eating under control too, because as I've said before, when I'm tired, I try prop myself up with sugar.

I do like my haircut, but I'm thinking of going short again for summer. I've never had a root canal, but I hear they're not as bad as they used to be. Hopefully you won't have to find out!

Beth

Hey Beth! I'm glad you've been able to get outside for a few days and enjoy the springtime. I hope you like your new haircut. Speaking of which, I need to do that, too!

I'm making plans for exercise. I have chosen a few DVDs to work with for a couple of weeks to build my fitness level back up, and then I'll plan on doing harder workouts. I haven't been doing TOO bad with the diet for the last couple of days, either, but I'm hardly able to claim bragging rights at this point.

I hope you can pull yourself together and get back to your usual healthy lifestyle. I know it's hard. I'm struggling, too, but if I would just decide to really treat myself with love and respect (which I deserve), I know I'd feel better about everything.

Tooth still bothers me. I hope I don't need a root canal!

Donna

Hi Donna! First, please let me appologize for being absent most of the last little while. I've been very busy, and tired, and even avoiding thinking about my diet and exercise. We had a wonderful Easter weekend, but DH has a cold now and has been miserable the last two nights - neither of us have been getting much sleep. I have taken this afternoon off, and will be getting a hair cut this afternoon that is loooooooooong overdue! We had summer like weather from Friday through yesterday, so I have been outside lots and have walked a lot. I've done some core work and knee PT stuff, but need to get a bit more structured now. My back is still causing me a hot spot of pain on the lower left side (s-i joint stuff), so I'm trying to find things that don't aggitate it.

Dental stuff can be so upsetting and painful Donna. I'm glad you finally found some relief. I hope the permanent crown does the full trick. I likely would have done the ice cream binge thing too. I have also been letting things get to me easier than usual. Maybe it's a spring thing? I dunno. In any case, I'm here with you sweetie. Wondering why all people just aren't nice, why folks tell you they'll do things and don't, etc. Like you I do have many blessings though, and need to count and be thankful for all.

Hang in there,
Beth

It's April 5 and no one started a new thread yet? We're slacking off, Beth.

Speaking of slacking, I've been using my contrary temporary crown as an excuse to pig out on ice cream and Nutella! Oh, and apparently it's OK not to exercise when you have dental problems, too. Who knew?
emoticon emoticon

So, anyway, I'm looking ahead and trying get my act back together again. I went back to the dentist today and he ground down the temp crown some more. It's much better, but that tooth still hurts, so I'm thinking there might be something else wrong with that tooth. Anyway, I can eat easier now, and maybe that problem will diminish when I get the permanent crown in a couple of weeks.

It's warm and humid today and the heat is still on in our building so it's pretty uncomfortable in my office today. I walked a little at lunch, but I didn't want to get too hot because I was afraid I'd never get cooled off! I've got a window open and a fan, which is helping. But it's still too warm! I hope I can get in a workout after work this afternoon.

Trying to count my blessings now, and stop feeling sorry for myself. As I've said before, I let every little thing get me down and set me back.

See ya,
Donna
