I am sorry you are not feeling well; been there and done that. That kind of coughing is so painful and just wears you out. I hope that you are better soon. I am doing good. I have not done a very good job of meeting my goals, but am down 3 more pounds. It is not great, but a loss is a loss.

I am just not much into the holidays this year. We did cook a Thanksgiving Dinner and I loved having both of my kids and grandkids here, but it just wasn't the same without my mother here. She is on my mind all of the time these days and I just can't get into the holiday spirit. January 1st will be the 20th anniversary of my grandmother's death and January 31st will be the one year anniversary of the death of my mother. The holidays have been a little difficult for me since my grandmother died and this year, I just have no holiday spirit.

We are having some nasty, icy weather right now and today the wind chill is 4° F., so I am staying home where it is nice and warm. It looks like we will be cold and icy for a few days. This system is supposed to move on through this area Sunday or Monday, but we have another one right behind it. We don't usually have icy conditions for this long here and this early in the year. I think we are going to have an unusually cold winter. The weather is certainly interfering with my jobs....school in this area are closed and it looks like tomorrow's cake decorating class I am teaching will also be canceled. On Wednesday we were almost 80° F and yesterday we were 30° F during the day and down to 25° F last night.

Take care of yourself and get better. I hope that your Christmas is much better than Thanksgiving. It is never easy to be sick, but the worst when it happens during the holidays when you should be celebrating, enjoying family and food, and having a couple of extra days off from work to relax a little.

Hi Debbie!
Hope you had a good Thanksgiving!

I had the week off but started getting sick on Tuesday before so completely missed doing any family Thanksgiving at all. I went to doc on Monday (have bronchitis). Tried to go to work yesterday but they sent me home...coughing is severe and I think it scares them. LOL. Anyway... looks like I am out the rest of the week. I have had very little sleep because of the coughing and my family is affected too. Now I fear Zachary has come down with whatever I had that led to Bronchitis. :( Anyway I am about to crawl back in bed... I am in a quiet place with the coughing right now..

Hope you are well and doing well with eating and exercise during the tough choice season. emoticon

Hi Lisa, it is good to hear from you. Thank you....I have been a kitty cat for the past 3 or 4 years....it is just easier than thinking up something else and then spending money on a different costume. :) We live in a very trick-or-treat active neighborhood. lol I spent $85 on candy this year and gave almost all of it out. Last year was worse. I spent a total of $130 on candy.....we had to make a candy run after an hour because we were running out and then we ran out over an hour before they stopped coming. I am enjoying it while I can because I am thinking of moving back out onto my land and we won't have any trick-or-treaters out in the country.

I do understand being swamped at work....it has been the same for me....and I also know that feeling of tired at the end of the day. Honestly, I would be able to go to the gym in the evenings, but I hate going alone and everyone I know is either at work when I can go, or they don't want to go in the evening. My son and daughter both have gym memberships and I could go free with them, but they work graveyard, so on their "days" off, they go int he middle of the night...I just can't do that and then get up at 6 to get ready and go to work. One person I know likes going at 5:30 in the morning....I am NOT a morning person AND that would not leave me enough time to shower and dress for work.

I have not gained any weight, but have also not lost anymore. It just seems like I am stuck here, no matter what I do. It is very discouraging to try so hard and just stay in the same place. I am just one of those people that needs a support system, and I just don't have it. I am surrounded by junk food junkies and just can't find an exercise buddy. I truly am alone in this. I won't give up though.

Happy November! Sorry for the long absence... dont know what was up with that. We only made it to the gym 1 time in October. I do know that I have been literally swamped at work which serves as my usual peek in time. :(

Anyway, I peeked in one time on facebook and saw your post for trick or treating. You are such a cute Cat! Debbie! emoticon
We hid in that night. Feel bah humbuggish but I just cant afford 30 bucks on candy when I could use that to buy gas for my car. Oh Well.

Still trying concertedly to eat healthily. Our one time at gym was early morning... our first ever morning and it was much easier on me than at end of day when I am already exhausted. Think that will become our new time.

Sorry you were sick a few weeks ago! Something is definitely going around. I was sick about then also...not looking forward to flu time!

This has been a rough week. I have been so sick with a stomach bug. I am feeling better, but still have no energy and my tummy is very sensitive. I showed a weight gain on the scale three days ago, but was bloated. The scale has gone back down and past what I weighed before getting sick. I am down 2 pounds since Monday....I wouldn't recommend this weight loss method to anyone though. That puts me at 275 and I am only 11 pounds from what I weighed when I visited Georgia to hike up Stone Mountain...but back then I had built more muscle than I have now, so I actually look and feel larger than I did back then. It is just time to pick up the exercising, one way or another, so that I will be more tone and fit. It is much better to be packing less fat and more muscle.

Remember those goal jeans that I had hoped to wear to a family reunion toward the end of July, but stopped losing weight and didn't make it. Well, I slipped them on today and they are a perfect fit. Their slightly tighter fitting twin also fits me. Another goal met!

Have a GREAT weekend! emoticon

I am keeping up with my challenge exercises and even working in a few exercises with dumbbells but have had a stomach bug for two days now, so I have not really eaten much at all. When I do eat I am making good choices though. :) I have not gotten any cardio in at all this week but will return to work tomorrow and get in some moderate walking around campus. I will pack something light for lunch, probably some cottage cheese and fruit along with some string cheese and some walnuts for a snack. I sure hope I feel better by morning because sick or not, I will be stuck in the classroom. I have also been pushing the water in an attempt to avoid becoming dehydrated and so far, so good.

I am off to a good start! I did my push ups and crunches last night and have already done my wall push ups for today. I also had a healthy, low carb, gluten free breakfast! The scale is holding on 277, but at least no weight gain so all is good!

I will be traveling to Dallas again today for my sister's doctor's appointment. I will be taking a cooler with me so that I have healthy snack foods and plenty of bottled water with me. It will not leave me much time for exercise, but at least I will be eating well.

I am up for that challenge Lisa. I need the motivation for exercising and it will just make it more fun. So, I too will start today with 25 crunches and 25 wall push-ups. I am going to modify my crunches slightly by using a stability ball.

I have not eliminated dairy from my diet, but pretty much limit my intake to mozzarella string cheese, eggs, and some yogurt. I will continue to avoid wheat/gluten and I mostly avoid artificial sweeteners, but do drink Minute Maid Light Lemonade some. I do not eat a lot of beans, other than green beans and only eat canned salmon, tuna, and occasionally chicken. I am trying to eat mostly "clean" foods.....I buy fresh meat, fruits, and veggies along with frozen veggies. I try to avoid canned because of the sodium and the chemical BPA. I also keep plenty of salad ingredients in my refrigerator.

Sounds like a great plan, Lisa!

Wow, Scary about the allergic reaction!

I am glad you are on the mend and doing better eating wise. I have not weighed myself this week as it is the girl time. Zacahry however continues on his downward slide on the scale. Zachary and I met our 7 day in a row to the gym challenge and have taken a few days off in the mean time. We will start this challenge again tonight. As for eating, we both indulged in a little icecream and I think I feel it in my joints. Or perhaps it was the garlic bread and vermicelli from last night. I seemed to be doing much better feeling and losing weight when I was going closer to the Virgin plan.

I think starting tomorrow, I will be back to no dairy, gluten, soy, eggs, sugar, artificial sweeteners, and corn and see how that will impact my efforts. I have plenty of salad makings, canned chicken and tuna, beans rice, etc. for the week. Wish me luck and fortitude!

I am up for a challenge. Starting today Sunday September 15, I will begin with 25 crunches and 25 push-ups(vertical) per day. I will increase total by 5 every Wednesday and Sunday until Halloween. By then that number will be 90 per day. Somebody join me!

Medieval times was great! We all had a blast and, for the most part, my eating was good.

I am completely back into the healthy eating and am resisting temptation, though it is not difficult at all. I went to McDonalds for dinner tonight and had their grilled chicken Caesar salad and my friend had a fish sandwich with fries, super sized. I ate one of his french fries, and moved on...I wanted some and that one fry satisfied me. Now THAT is progress.

I did go shopping to have things on hand for light healthy lunches on the go to take to work. I bought things like cottage cheese and small fruit cups (I know, too many carbs but gluten free), chicken lunch meat and string cheese (I know, processed...it is only for emergency lunches). I bought stuff to make taco meat for taco salads, chicken wings to make buffalo wings (I bake them and put seasoning from Buffalo Wild Wings on them), chicken fajita meat for chicken fajita salad (only sauce is the drippings off the meat and a little sour cream, but delicious), chicken tenders for grilled chicken salads, and I have boiled eggs, to snack on or for breakfast on the run, celery, cucumbers, and walnuts for snacks, and sugar-free gelatin for when I want something for dessert. I am avoiding those sodas and drinking water, unsweet tea, and Minute Maid Light Lemonade. I am cooking healthy meals and try to make extra for leftovers for lunch as well.

Did you know that green beans lower blood sugar. I had no idea. My sister told me this so I googled it and sure enough, green beans can have a huge impact on blood sugar and some researchers say that if a person on insulin eats a lot of green beans regularly, they need to monitor their blood sugar closely to make sure it does not bottom out. Guess what I now have a LOT of in my freezer! :) I love green beans and if it works, it is just an added bonus.

BTW....I have lost 3 more pounds and have met my Labor Day Goal for weight loss! (I must admit that it was just a few days past Labor Day, but better late than never! Happy, happy, happy! emoticon

emoticon My next goal, for Halloween is to lose another 16 pounds down to 261, so I have to lose just a little over 2 pounds a week to meet this goal. I can do that! emoticon

So, I am back with a vengeance. lol I am pretty much recovered from my allergic reaction to Atkins bars and feel like I am finally able to get back to exercising again. I returned to work today and if feels good to be back and a few people were happy to see me, so all is good. Tomorrow, I am taking my kids, grandkids, and a few friends to Dallas to Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. They do not really have options for dinner.....they serve what they serve. The worst is the garlic toast and dessert, otherwise it is wheat/gluten free. I have been extra careful about staying on my diet and avoiding wheat/gluten since I know I will be having some tomorrow.

Have a GREAT weekend, ladies.

I am still here, ladies! Things have been very rough for me the past couple of weeks. I can't even remember what I posted about and what I didn't but don't have the energy to read my posts right now.

My sister finally seems to be on track and doing well. She is over the pain part and the blood clots, which are superficial, are responding to treatment. I took her to Dallas for a follow up visit with her surgeon on Thursday and all is good. She goes back in a month. So, we are slowly getting beyond the initial phase of her surgery. With her pre-surgery diet/weight loss, she is now down 35 pounds, which thrilled her.

I on the other hand am having problems. On Saturday the 17th I thought I had found something wonderful to eat that tastes so good and has a whollup of fiber in it. I have had trouble getting in enough fiber every day. I bought some Atkins low glycemic impact chocolate coconut bars that tastes so much like a Mounds Candy bar for 170 calories, 5 g protein, and 9 g fiber. I thought it was great and the fiber intake was well worth the 170 calories. I was eating two of them a day even though they were causing some intestinal issues, that did go away after a few days. My sister was released from the hospital that Sunday and on Thursday morning I noticed a spot on my face that was red and realized I had a small rash., I didn't think too much about it at first, but it looked pretty bad the next day and I had it on my right cheek as well. Eventually it spread to my upper arms and back. I was miserable with this rash, itching, and it had heat in it....my daughter said that when she touched my cheek I felt like I was burning up. I bought some ointments and lotions that help with dry skin eczema to see if it would help and the first night I used them it seemed to improve...the redness was almost gone from my face and the heat had gone a way when I woke up the next morning. But by noon that day the rash was all red, inflamed, and had heat in it again. I realized that it was after I ate an Atkins bar that I gradually got worse again. But this time, in addition to the rash, I had tingling in my hands, lips, throat, tongue, roof of my mouth, and gums, and my breathing began to feel stuffy. I thought I was going to have to go to the emergency room that night. Once I suspected it was the Atkins bars, I did not eat anymore and the next morning the rash looked much better, there was no heat, and the other symptoms were almost gone. I still have some rash on my arms, but it is also getting better. I take a Zyrtech allergy pill daily and have to wonder if my reaction would have been quicker and much more severe had I not already had it in my system. I am going to switch to Allegra because that is what my doctor put me on in 2000 when I had a severe allergic reaction to cats. To say that I have been miserable is an understatement, but I am finally feeling a little better and plan to go back to work sometime next week. I am not sure what is in those bars that did this to me, but I suspect sucralos, AKA Splenda. I researched some of the ingredients and it is the most likely suspect. I had several of the allergic reaction symptoms associated with Splenda.....and it turns out a LOT of people are allergic to Splenda. I can thank the ingredient, Maltitol for the intestinal issues. Those bars should come with a warning label! emoticon

So, I stepped on the scale this morning and guess who has left the 280's behind! Yep! I am down to 279. As I get over this awful allergic reaction to the Atkins bars I am going to work in more activity and look for other sources of fiber to meet my daily needs. I am not giving up; I will keep trying until I either lose this weight or die! emoticon

Now, Lisa, I do remember those challenges all to well and they worked for me. They motivated me to do exercises I would not normally do, or to get them done because you guys were doing them right along with me. I would be up to a challenge of some kind, even if it is just three of us. I remember the crunches....we started out small and by the time we were done we were up to something like a hundred a day. It was awesome!

Are you ladies up for a challenge? Nothing huge...start out small and work our way up as we become more fit. Small enough it will not be discouraging and will be fun? Ya'll think about it; I am game. emoticon

On that note, I hope you both have a wonderful Labor Day. I am having some family and friends over for grilled rib-eye steaks, cowboy potatoes (I will severely limit these), jalapeno bites (very low carb), asparagus spears, salad, and corn on the cob (a treat I will also limit), baby carrots, and chocolate cake with chocolate frosting (I will not indulge in this one). I will make Tilapia for my sister along with sugar-free Jello with Cool Whip (my dessert also). So, I am thinking ahead so that I have healthy choices that will keep me on the right track. emoticon

Debbie, You are NOT destined to be an unhealthy size. We tell each other this when we get down on our results so you already know it, but I am saying it again. It took years to gain the weight. It will take some time to get it off. You just have to keep working at it. Keep on hoppity hopping, walking on treadmill and join that Y to go swimming. You remember when we used to do the bridge up challenge with each other years ago? Can't even remember what they are but there are things we can do to become stronger. Just keep at it. It will work!

Hey Diana! How's it going? Happy Labor day to you also!!

So we are still plugging away at our health plan. I have relaxed a bit with my eating so that could be improved. Haven't weighed in a week or so because I can tell I am holding water in my ankles. No need in becoming less motivated over that. Zachary is still doing well. His current goal which includes me since I am the driver is to visit the gym 7 days in a row. We are half way through that. I am hoping we can extend it to 2 weeks and then 1 month. I don't think I am anywhere near my goal I had for Labor Day. I sometimes wonder if setting goals at a great distance is beneficial. Seems like I never get there but do have a loss so I am not as impressed with what I actually accomplished...

Anyhoo, hope you ladies have an awesome weekend!

Thank you, Lisa. She was in the process of being released from the hospital on Saturday when the nurse noticed her arm was swollen and decided it needed to be checked. A sonogram revealed a blood clot so the doctor on call for her surgeon decided to keep her to treat the blood clot. Her images were sent from Baylor in Waxahachie to Baylor in Dallas and the specialist there determined that the blood clot was superficial so her doctor decided to let her go home after all. So, she was released late Saturday night. We didn't get back to Abilene until 2:30 in the morning. She sees her MD tomorrow and will have a follow up with her surgeon soon. I hope we have hospitals behind us for a while.

I still haven't lost any more weight. It is like I just halted in that department. I have tried varying my calorie intake and activity level, but nothing seems to be working. Maybe I am destined to be this size for the rest of my life. :(

Wow ! So Sorry to hear about your sister! Yeah, those surgeries really scare me too. I know people are desperate but weight loss another way is possible. People have to decide they want to do it. Zachary and I discussed yesterday the prospect of doing the gym in the mornings. We went yesterday very early in the AM. Then I went to grocery store where I had tons of energy walking about in there. I think am workouts would be much better for me and I would not be so sleepy that I would wimp out on going.

That is amazing about the wheat reaction you had. WOW! Working 3 days this week, so I better get dressed and get to work. Can't wait for some time off!

I am still sparking along. Have not lost any more weight, but haven't gained either. I have spent the last week and a half, mostly in Dallas, sitting in a motel or hospital with my sister. I have continued to eat really well, even though I have not been logging my meals. My jeans do fit looser so I suspect that I have gained some muscle due to the enormous amount of walking I have done to and from the parking lot at the hospital and then through the hospital itself....I do mean a lot of walking as this hospital is HUGE!!!

My sister had gastric sleeve surgery and spent 4 days in the hospital. We went to Dallas Wednesday a week ago for pre surgery appts and she had surgery on Thursday. We came home on Sunday and then on Wednesday morning she suddenly developed excruciating pain and was taken to the ER by ambulance. A CT scan showed that her spleen was ruptured so she was transferred back to Dallas by ambulance to be hospitalized near her surgeon. The surgeon determined the laceration in her spleen was surgery related. They were able to save her spleen and she is recovering at the hospital. She is supposed to be released sometime this weekend. I tried for a year to talk her out of having this procedure. I just hope the worst is behind her. Right now they are trying to deal with her heart rate being erratic....they found that her potassium is low. Honestly, I would rather be fat and die of the complications that go with being obese than go through all of that.

Back to Dallas tomorrow morning and Medieval Times dinner and show in the afternoon!

It is hard to believe, Lisa. It seems like it was just yesterday that she was born and struggling for her life in the NICU at Fort Worth's Harris Methodist Hospital and now she is starting school.

I have really watched my eating, most of the time, lately and have not only avoided carbs, but have avoided wheat as well. I have felt better than I have in years. Last night, I went to Red Lobster with friends and allowed myself to (in addition to having fried fish, shrimp, scallops, and clam strips) have three of their Cheddar Bay Biscuits. No big deal, right? After-all, I have been good and it is only one meal out of many. Wrong!!! By the time we finished eating and were ready to leave, I was already suffering from consuming the wheat; it happened that quickly. When I stood up to leave, my knee and hip joints were so sore and stiff that I had trouble standing up and my back screamed in protest and I had trouble straightening up. Even worse was my efforts to walk. I was in so much pain that I could barely stand it. If I needed proof (and I really didn't) of how harmful wheat is to the human body, that was it. When I went to bed last night I was still very uncomfortable and it was painful to even turn over; I just felt so stiff all over. I am feeling better this morning, though it will take me a few days to completely get over the stiff joints. I am a firm believer that modern wheat is evil.

I ordered the book, "Wheat Belly" by William Davis, M D, and just finished reading it. So many things he says in the book ring all to true for me as I have personally experienced much of what he describes and as I read through the book, I thought back on my own life and the progression of my health and weight. From my own personal experiences, I firmly believe he is on the right track where wheat is concerned. It has made me realize that it is important to cut wheat out of my diet so that I will not only feel better, but will continue to lose weight and be healthier. Since cutting wheat out of my diet, I am now off all of my medications, other than for reflux and will be discontinuing it when my current bottle is gone. All that will be left is my multi-vitamin, as long as my blood pressure continues to be in the normal range. :) I strongly recommend this book.

I can't believe she is Kindergarten age already! Time flies! Congrats on your weight loss! I am still hanging in there too. I forgot my blood pressure meds yesterday and my ankles were swelling so I did not get on the scale. I will give it til tomorrow. My son however is down by about 47 pounds now. I need to take a page out of his book and start ellipting every day. I know it is the daily exercise that is doing it for him. Still kind of slacked off with the gym too and we need to get back to those toning machines.

Have a great week!

I am doing something right. I am down 1 more pound today. I haven't really exercised too much the past few days other than some heavy duty shopping for my granddaughter school clothes, shoes, and school supplies. I have to wonder if I would be seeing more loss if I were exercising like I should, but still, a pound is a pound and at least I lost something.

Today will be another non exercise day as I am washing and organizing my granddaughter's new clothes, going through all of the stuff I have here for her to get rid of what no longer fits her and getting her name on her school supplies. She will be with me on most school days since her daddy has to be at work by 5:30 in the morning and doesn't get off until 6 in the evening. I thought, the days of having to get kids up and ready for school were behind me, but that is no longer the case. lol We had a good time shopping and sh is thrilled with her new clothes. She will start kindergarten in just a couple of weeks! My baby is growing up so fast. I am also going through my stuff and getting pieces I need so that I will be ready to go back to work when school starts.

I hear an echo in here! lol emoticon

I am already seeing results from restricting my carbs even further. I was down 2 more pounds this morning. emoticon

Those jeans I wanted to be able to fit in by the time our family reunion rolled around two weeks ago are much closer to fitting now. Another 5 pounds and they will fit perfectly! And I have TWO pairs of them!!!

I AM going to make this happen this time around! emoticon

Good for you, Leesa! Pack your eggs for breakfast in a small zipper type bag so that it will be handy to just grab on your way out and then put a note on the door, at eye level, to remind you to grab them before you leave the house.

Strange....I am not having issues like that with a script error. Hmmmmmmm.......

Well, I have lost one more pound. Very slow going here and I am now officially unhappy about it! So, I am taking action and am going to pick up the pace on weight loss. I have decided to move into a more carb restricted diet. So, fruit is not officially out of my diet most of the time. I am going to limit myself to 20 to 30 effective carbs a day. I started this after breakfast yesterday and even though I had a pancake with a little strawberry syrup at breakfast, I still lost a pound. Hoping to see more loss tomorrow morning. If I don't, it will be okay because I know from experience how well the low carb approach works. I have lost as much as 40 pounds in a little over a month by just avoiding carbs.

How are you doing, Diana? emoticon

hi Debbie,
I got my eggs peeled last night and in the fridge. I wish I had remembered them this morning as I came to work with nothing and was very hungry. Sounds like you are off to a good start on your ball. make sure you are doing measurements besides weight. I am sure all that training is making for some slim thighs!

I wish Spark would cut out some of the ads. A script error keeps bogging my session down and I have very little time to post as it is!

Hey Diana! Hope you are well!

Lisa, boiled eggs are a must have for me when trying to eat right and lose weight. I know they have said for years that egg yolks are high in cholesterol and should be avoided for the most part, but I don't believe that we get fat because of fat in our diet (as long as we watch overall calorie intake) and I believe that cholesterol is made in our bodies, not gained from eating cholesterol containing foods. I have not had a cholesterol check in years, but the last one was well within the normal range and I have always eaten a lot of eggs. So, boiled eggs, as you say, are an easy source of protein. When I find myself wanting a snack, they are great to have in the fridge to go to so that I will not be tempted to eat something carb loaded. I also keep pork skins, pecans, cashews, walnuts, and smoked almonds handy for snacking on.

This morning, I had two boiled eggs for breakfast, an ounce of cashews for a snack, and now I am having two boiled eggs for lunch. I have also put in a total of 35 minutes bouncing on my hop ball and let me tell you, after 30 continuous minutes it was hard to stand up....my legs did not want to work and I was weak in the knees. It passed quickly though. I make sure that I keep my back straight while bouncing and I also will, instead of just relaxing into the ball, will lower myself back down, kind of like posting on a horse. In fact, when I got off the ball my body felt a little like it does after a good ride (walk, trot) on a horse. One thing I noticed this time is that the muscles on the inside of each knee were warm and had obviously been worked well. I need that. After all the knee trouble I have had in the past, anything that helps strengthen my knee muscles is a plus in my book!

I will keep you posted on the hop ball and how it effects my body/weight loss. I wish they made them for people over 300 pounds...they could if they wanted to! It is very low impact and makes my back feel wonderful.

Lisa, no fall in the air here. We will not feel fall weather here until the middle of September at the earliest, and sometimes not until the end of October. I have even had a garden and was still picking bell peppers and tomatoes two weeks before Christmas before....and I am not even in South Texas.

Debbie, Glad you mentioned boiled eggs. That is such an easy food high in protein to do ahead planning! I need to make some for me to take to work next week!(I will boil them on Sunday.)

I have been eating out way to much but I have had people taking me out for my birthday. The last eat out time will be this coming Monday but until then and right after I will do what I can to be good.
I have found that eating something like an apple on the way to work in teh morning does a lot to keep me from getting a drive thru biscuit, so that is one thing I also need to get more of.

Do you feel Fall in the air? Maybe not a coolness but it just seems like the change is coming! I personally can't wait!

Have a great weekend, Diana and Debbie!

The scale finally budged and I am down a pound. It is only a pound, but I will take it! emoticon

So, I have been putting my hop ball to use since I got it and absolutely love it. Now, at my size and as out of shape as I am, I am not doing full blown bouncing down the street or anything, but let me tell you, this thing is a LOT of work and it is a BLAST! I have been doing a pretty good bounce on it while watching television and can really feel it in my quad muscles. I do get my heart rate up and will be breathing harder after only a couple of minutes. I just did five minutes on it and got a good workout for that five minutes. I bounced on it and used 3 pound dumbbells to work my upper body, so I got a five minute full body workout. The last minute I put the dumbbells down and did some higher bounces; I feel great all over! I read somewhere that just sitting, balancing on a fitness ball, burns 100+ calories an hour. It would not be hard to sit and bounce up and down for an hour, just small bouncing, and I would think that would burn quite a minimum of 200 calories an hour...and probably much more because it is work, but doesn't feel like work. My daughter hopped around on one of the Hoppity-Hop balls last night and in the short time she bounced up and down the hall she is sore up and down her spine today. So, it does work the muscles in the legs, back, and abs!

Glad see you back Diana! I have to say I have not made it to the gym since I was sick on July 22. It took me over a week to recover from that... and now I have been postponing it because I come home still a bit overtired. The good news is that I haven't gained back anything that I lost. I plan to go tonight though so hopefully my son can push me if I waiver. He has been doing awesome on the home elliptical. He has lost at least 39 pounds since we started our plan and he will pop in a James Bond Movie and ellipt to it the entire time.

So happy you are back and feeling better, Diana. We have missed you. I think that single parents have the toughest job in the world; it is a huge responsibility that I admire them for so much. But, everyone needs some "me" time every once in a while. As much as you miss your children right now (and I know you do because you are a wonderful mother), it is also an opportunity for you to have that "me" time that we all need and there is nothing wrong with you relaxing a little, pampering yourself, and just doing what Diana wants to do while they are with their father. Don't ever feel guilty for taking those little vacations and spending some quality Diana time because raising children is a huge, 24/7 job and as a single parent, you can't just take a breather or have that "me" time you might need because you don't have a partner to take over for a couple of hours when you need a break, or even to step up and take charge when you are sick; it all falls on your shoulders. Please try to enjoy the next couple of days to do something special for you; they will be home soon.

IF you have gained weight, just file it away in the, "okay, I fell off the wagon slightly file," and just move on. It happens to us all. I had a family reunion last Saturday and just didn't worry about calories or what I ate. I didn't go hog wild, but I did eat a lot of calories because of some of my food choices. I just went right back to eating better afterward and then made an unexpected trip to Amarillo this week and ate out a lot. I mostly ate well, and even packed fruit and boiled eggs in a cooler to take with me for healthy snack options. But, you know how it is, it is hard to eat low calorie in any restaurant. I made good choices, but am sure that I ate a little more, calorie wise, than I should have and I didn't exercise at all. I am eating well again today and watching those calories, but will be traveling to Oklahoma next week. I will just do the best I can and move forward. I did step on the scale this morning and I did not lose anything, but I also have not gained either. I seem to be stuck on 284. :(

No, I have not cut my hair yet. I am holding off to make sure that I want to cut it that short. I have to be sure because once it comes off, it can't go back on and for me to have the option of donating to Locks of Love they have to take a full 10-inches and then I will lose more when they layer and shape it.

Have a GREAT day!

Hello Ladies,

I am here! Feeling a little PMSsy, and tired, but here... Kids come home on Sunday and I have been enjoying, perhaps a little too much my time of freedom. I probaby gained, but I haven't done much of anything, much less get on a scale. I guess I'm in a rut of sorts. Time to get it together.

Debbie, did you cut your hair? Did you donate it to locks of love? Lisa, how is the gym going with you and your son?

I hope you both are doing well, talk to you soon.

Thank you, Lisa. I am still very new at this and that is my very first three tier cake, wedding cake, and my first time to attach flower sprays to a cake. All of those flowers are the practice flowers I made while learning how to make them. I think my cake looked pretty good...it needed more height on it (it was originally supposed to have the "25" on top, but my niece decided she wanted it in the middle). The frosting also slid a bit under the fondant, so it could have been a little bit smoother. Overall, I think it turned out pretty good. I had fun putting it together....and had a lot of people standing around watching.

So, the scale still has not budged...very strange how I lost so much weight so quickly and after two days of 3 pounds and one day of 1 pound, I haven't lost so much as an ounce. I will just have to try harder. I must admit, it was much more motivating and fun while I was losing some weight. But, I won't give up.

I did not lose enough to wear my goal jeans to the family reunion, but....I have a really cute t-shirt that I bought 4 years ago that did not fit me that has been hanging in my closet all this time that now fits perfectly and I did wear it to the reunion, so I had that at least. I have to admit that it felt really good to wear that shirt for the first time! Saturday was a good day.

I am so glad that you are feeling better! emoticon

A Sand Bass is the same thing as a White Bass, but everyone in my part of the country calls them a Sand Bass.

I have also slacked off when it comes to exercise, but it is because I was so busy making a 25th wedding anniversary cake. I worked on it all day Friday and did not get to bed until 3 Saturday morning. Was up at 7 Saturday morning, loaded up, and was in Albany by 9:45 to assemble and decorate the cake. I spent the day at a family reunion, and left Albany to come home at 9 last night. We had the swimming pool rented from 6 to 8, so I got some fun exercise in as well. I went to bed at 11 last night and did not get up until 10 this morning. I was exhausted! My kitchen looks like a tornado hit it, so I get to spend some time cleaning my kitchen and reorganizing all my cake stuff today! What a thing to come home to. emoticon It was worth it; my sister-in-law loved her cake!

I am not even attempting to log my food from yesterday. I did have a little (and I do mean very small amounts) of several desserts and a little of several side dishes and brisket at the reunion. I know that even though I didn't eat a lot of anything, all those samples of different desserts added up to a lot of calories for the day, but I did not go overboard and it was surprisingly easy to have just a little and stop with that. I was surprised that eating sweets didn't make me want more. I guess I have been good just long enough that having a little satisfied me. I just enjoyed the day.....and the food.....and didn't really concern myself with how many calories I was having. Today, I am right back to eating like I should and even though there is a carrot cake (I measured my first one wrong and it was not torted the way I wanted, so I made another one for the center tier of the wedding cake and filled and crumb coated the first one) in my refrigerator, I am not even temped to have a piece....and I LOVE carrot cake. A friend has already had a huge serving of it, so I don't think it will be around too long to tempt me anyway. emoticon

Have a great rest of the weekend! emoticon

emoticon Feeling more like myself, now!

Never heard of a sand bass before! I will have to google that! So we have not been to the gym in over a week just because I was going to bed as soon as I got off work, s I kind of feel like it will be starting over in that arena. Still, I have not gained any weight(even though I have not been eating my plan style... Had lots of pizza last night but luckily no weight gain... emoticon
Hope you have a nice weekend!

I don't know what happened to Diana. I hope she is okay.

I did not catch any fish this last time. I have gone a lot lately though. We were catching Sand Bass and an occasional Hybrid Bass along with a few catfish, but they stopped biting after we had all that rain last week.

I am glad you are starting to feel better. I am sure you will be back to normal within a few days.

You have always been so organized so i know you will make that future move flow smoothly!

Where's our Ms. Diana, I wonder!

Since I have been sick I have not gone back to the gym. Stayed in bed all day on Monday, went to bed as soon as I got home on Tuesday(5:30PM), Yesterday I went to bed at 7PM...
I would probably like to go to bed again early tonight. I am just pooped. Anyhoo! Sparking along, too! Wish I had a hippity hop to hop on over to your house! emoticon

I feel so lonely. emoticon

No more weight loss to report, but I am still sparking along nicely. I did not formally exercise today, but am still working on reorganizing my walk-in closet and dresser drawers. In between washing clothes, hanging them to dry, and folding clothes, I did finish going through all of my dresser drawers and have reorganized all 11 of them. Tomorrow I will be baking cake tiers for my first wedding cake and finish reorganizing my closet. I have needed to do it for a while. We moved into this house so quickly that things were not put up like I would have liked for them to be....between the rushed move, cleaning the mess at the house that burned, and my mother I just didn't have time. I will be moving from this house, probably next summer and want things organized so it will be easy to pack and label things.

I hope you are both doing well....I know how busy life gets, but I do miss your posts. I am still here, muddling through. emoticon

Debbie,
Night fishing sounds like fun! I love to fish... gives you a chance to just sit there and think!

Diana, I am sorry you have been down, I wouldn't like being without my children either. Hopefully the time away will pass quickly! I hate that school starts so early here! Summer should be from Memorial Day to Labor Day in my opinion.

Hello, ladies! (Is it just me, or is there an echo in here?) emoticon

Well, it happened. No loss on the scale this morning, but all is good! I think I may already be gaining a little muscle from that treadmill....I have been working hard! I spent part of the morning "closet" shopping and found several t-shirts among the obscene amount of clothes I have (literally a large walk-in closet FULL) and have a bunch that "fit" but are not quite loose enough to fit me. I am going back in there later and go through some more things and get it all organized. I have a LOT of "goal" clothing in there. So, I will have a busy day ahead of me with that and the drawers in two dressers. It is a good thing! emoticon

I hope you are both having a great weekend! I think I might go fishing tonight! emoticon

Good morning, ladies!

My morning weigh in shows a 1 pound loss for today. I am so sparked! emoticon

It is Friday again and I am one more week closer to returning to work....this is a good thing! I have enjoyed having some time off, and desperately needed it. I really needed to just stay home and hide from the world after my mother died but I couldn't do that. I struggled to finish the school year and once school finally ended I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders because I could finally take the time I needed to take for me, so that I can heal some.

When I go back to work next month, I will be healthier emotionally and physically, a little lighter, and feeling so so much better all over my body than I did at the end of the school year. I will also look different because I have decided to cut my waist length hair....not too short, but much shorter than it is right now.

Have a GREAT day, ladies!

Awwww, Diana. I am sorry you are feeling lonely. I know it is hard to have your kids gone like that. I wish we lived closer...I would have you over for dinner every night so that you wouldn't be lonely. I cannot believe school will be starting so early there. We don't go back until the end of August. Wow.

I know that I am so very far away from you, but if you need to talk, I am here for you. I don't know if you have my current phone number, so I am going to PM it to you. I am just a phone call/text away if you need a friend.

You can do this....just hang in there.

That is awesome Debbie! You are an inspiration! 25lbs! WTG! Reunion...here you come!

I am a little bummed today, kids leave tomorrow for 2 weeks, then back to school. I can't believe its over already! where does the time go....

I am also emotionally eating a little, and haven't weighed myself in a few days. I know this may sound a little silly, but I am getting lonely. I would really like a constant friend in my life. One who truly and sincerely cares about me and my kids.

At times it just doesn't seem like its in the cards for me, and I guess if that is His plan than so be it, and maybe I'm just not ready for it? IDK....

I am really happy for you Debbie, you are doing really great! Talk to you both real soon.

xoxo

I am amazed at the progress I have made this week. I cannot believe how fast I have been losing weight. I truly believer that there is a strong link between food allergies and obesity. Since I have mostly cut out wheat/gluten, the weight is falling off. In 14 days, I have lost 25 pounds and can now wear a pair of shorts, comfortably, that I could not even button on the Fourth of July....they needed a good 5-inches to even meet in the middle. I have a pair of jeans, my goal jeans, that I have not fit into in over 3 years. Today, I can get them on, button, and zip them....I hang over them too much though, so I have to lose down some more. To meet my goal, they have to fit me comfortably. I plan to wear that pair of jeans to a family reunion on July 27th...that is my short-term clothing goal. What I am doing is working so I am going to keep doing exactly what I am doing right now. I am down to 285 pounds today! I swear that I would think the scale is malfunctioning, but my friend that recently went to the doctor is weighing consistently on it....and I am wearing a pair of shorts I could not wear two weeks ago....that is proof enough.

I am still walking on the treadmill every day and I am starting to work in some strengthening exercises...building some muscle will slow that weight loss rate...but that is okay because I will be leaner. :) I also bought a stabilizer ball and new dumbbells so I will be using those to incorporate a variety of exercises that target all areas of the body while allowing me to mix things up so that exercise won't be so hum drum. I am also thinking about starting back at the YMCA so that I will have access to a swimming pool, weight rooms, and cardio equipment, like the recumbent bike.

I am planning a trip to Louisiana in October and want to be down to at least 260 pounds and able to wear the jeans and t-shirts I wore when I went to Georgia to climb Stone Mountain before I go. With any luck, I will exceed that weight loss goal and be down to 250. emoticon

Come on, Ladies. Get SPARKED! WE can do this together! emoticon

Okay, Lisa. We will make it November then! lol J/K emoticon

I have heard that hot flashes are really bad for some women. For me, I would just suddenly feel flushed, my cheeks would get red, and that was it, it would be over almost instantly. I have a friend that had horrible hot flashes...her face and neck would be beet red, she would sweat, and often have to just sit down and fan herself until it passed....and that could take several minutes.

Yeah, when I say cooler weather I mean icy. LOL.. I tend to have heat flashes so any exertion feels like a heat stroke. But October may be too soon for me as well! I can walk on the treadmill for 45 minutes but it is slow going.... so we can put that on the future burner for sure..

I want to climb Stone Mountain again, but boy will I have to work hard to be able to accomplish that feat! lol I don't know for sure when I could do come to Georgia, but would be willing to make the trip to see you guys and hike up that mountain....and I am all for doing that during cooler weather. The last time we did it was toward the end of October and the weather was perfect for it! I sure wish I lived closer to you guys. I don't know if I could be in shape to do that by October or not.....maybe October of 2014, LOL.

Here I am!!!! I am peeking in at work, was only able to browse quickly the posts I have missed but I did catch a few details. I will read them more thoroughly when I can sneak on for longer. So What I did catch:

Debbie I am ssoooo glad you got a emoticon treadmill! Good buy and you will definitely use it so it will be so worth the money! Wow about finding the Spark! at a yard sale.. Dummies must have given up too soon. It can happen with effort. we all know that.

Diana, one of the ways I started off so well about 2 months ago was deciding to go to bed hungry. People do it all over the world, I figured I could too. I would eat food until about 3-4PM and then no more.... emoticon I dropped weight quickly because most of my bad eating is at home after work. Another thing I noticed, my ankles stopped swelling. About a month after doing this I came across the Virgin plan to give up allergic producing foods. I haven't stuck to that plan so well but I am more mindful about what I eat. I don't think I will be able to watch that you tube video on animals just yet... I know when I do it will have a big impact on me..(sorry about your toe, too... hope it is feeling better!) Belated Happy day!

As for cheating... i wouldn't consider eating cheating. emoticon I would just consider it eating and let go of the guilt. If we have something we think is unhealthy we should just take it for what it is and move forward. And do better next time. It's like speeding, you know you should be more careful... sometimes you just do it, sometimes you pay a penalty for it... but you still have to drive... so you try to do better!.

Zachary has now surpassed my weight loss. I have sort of hit a plateau but it is really more that I have not been as persistant with my good eating. And he has stayed the course. He is down about 34 pounds and I am down just 30... but I weigh less than I did 2 months ago so i am happy!
Z turns 20 on Monday. He has decided after all he wants a very small peanut butter cake. I bought one of those Jiffy mixes which I will use to make it. It makes the equilavent a a single layer cake so it will be just enough for him to have some and I won't feel bad about tossig the rest.
Any way I am still here! Now that I know yall are coming in and posting regularly I will make a point to come in several times a week.
I need to get back to logging meals and exercise, too.
I am thinking we need to set a long term goal to hike Stone Mountain... as in the past. Who is up for it?? It will have to be much cooler weather and I will need to know a date so that I can work up some stamina! Who's up for it? emoticon

I am doing better every day. My headache and that heavy feeling I had in my head because of the caffeine/sugar withdrawal is almost gone, so I am finally able to start working in some exercise. It is hard to get back into the habit of portion control, eating healthy, and exercising, but I am making great progress. I am not right where I need to be yet, but I am getting there. I have lost enough weight in the past couple of weeks that I have already met my Labor Day goal, so I am going to set a new weight loss goal and redo my long-term goals. I can't wait to lose enough to go "closet" shopping! Other than seeing that loss on the scale, there is no feeling in the world like going into my closet and finding that clothes I have not been able to wear in several years will fit. I have held on to everything that I was wearing at my lowest in 2006 and am anxious to fit into them again. emoticon

Oh...and I finally stepped onto my "new" treadmill and went for a walk this morning! I only walked for 10 minutes, but will do it again at least two more times today. Just one more baby step forward. emoticon

My new weight loss goal for Labor Day will be an additional 15 pounds with a target weight of 277 pounds!

It's okay, Diana. We have all been there. Today is a new day. I had to be out and about today and ended up eating a double cheeseburger at Whataburger for lunch. I hadn't eaten anything all day long and it was after 1...I was soooooo hungry. I ate the whole thing....I did drink water with it and resisted the fries and soda, so it could have been worse.

This is hard...but emoticon

I decided to treat myself to some crust-less peach pie tonight...I went very easy on the sugar and loaded the peaches with cinnamon....and then I ended up spooning the hot peaches over a scoop of ice cream. It was so yummy and such a treat. I still came in well under my maximum calorie goal for the day, so all is good!

I am going to brave the scale tomorrow and see if it has budged. My jeans feel looser, so I think I have lost a couple of pounds...but will not be disappointed if I haven't since I have not been exercising. I have not felt so great the past few days because of caffeine/sugar withdrawal, but am doing better now, so I am going to start working in some exercise....think I will spend some time on my "new" treadmill starting tomorrow!

That is a good question, Diana! Where IS Lisa? I think that with work and going to the gym she stays busy and really isn't online very much. She will pop in again soon, I am sure. emoticon I am here though....I am off work for the summer, but even after I go back to work I will be popping in daily.

Yesterday, I was considering buying the SparkPeople book, "The Spark" but decided to hold off on it for a while. This morning, I went with a friend to check out some yard sales, and what did I come across? A copy of "The Spark" at a yard sale for $1...this book looks brand new! Of course I bought it and so far, the little I have read is very interesting. It was one of my best yard sale finds of the day. The best find of the day was a treadmill. It also looks brand new, is less than a year old and, according to the previous owner was only used a few times by his daughter before she moved out. It is quite nice with many high tech features that I will have to figure out and even has a fan built into the center to help keep you cool while walking. They were asking $300 for it this morning ($800 in the stores here) but I didn't want to pay that. I went back by an hour before their sale was ending and it was still there, so I offered them $200 and they took it because they are moving to Idaho and didn't want to have to haul it with them since they don't use it. So, I have a treadmill again and that will make it so much easier to work back into exercise because I can walk in my home where it is cool. I love going to yard sales!

I have been doing very well with my eating, though today was a little off because we ate out for breakfast and lunch. I am going to go log my food for the day right now and see how I did. I am not going to worry about going a little over on calories because I was very active today and I have been very good the past few days. I did limit myself to one breakfast burrito this morning (6-inch tortilla) and had a salad with grilled chicken for lunch, so I tried to eat as healthy as possible for lunch....with the exception of some onion blossom...I just couldn't resist! :)

I hope you ladies are having a GREAT weekend! Happy sparking. emoticon

It is okay....it is your birthday, so of course you are going to have a special treat. No use in feeling guilt over it, just go forward and continue making healthier choices between now and the next special day. I truly believe that if we make good choices for a life-style change, that it is okay to have that special birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's, etc., meals without guilt. After-all, food is a part of special celebrations and all things are allowed in moderation. It is the in-between eating that makes it a life-style change. I also think that if we eat well outside the holidays/birthdays that we will enjoy those special meals all the more, because they are not the norm for us. It is like sodas, when we drink them all the time, they actually get to where they don't taste that good anymore, but when we don't drink them except for an occasional treat, they taste wonderful!

Hi Ladies! Ok, I have a new goal To go to bed hungry. I know when you say it outloud it sounds bad, but really, my biggest problem is late night eating. A friend took me out for my bday for lunch and i had my favorite deep fried sushi roll and a cucumber salad..(don't let the name fool yah...lots of calories) didn't really eat any dinner and now its late, and i am hungry. The small amount of guilt I was feeling is now gone. emoticon I will sleep like a baby.. goodnight girls, missed you tonight!

You are so right....planning ahead is half the battle....and an absolute must if you are trying to eat healthy.

I am doing well with my eating and staying on track. I haven't weighed myself again, but will in a few days. Whether I see a loss or not, I know that I am eating better and in time it will show on the scale. My jeans do feel a little looser today, so I am hopeful I have lost a couple of pounds. I am going to ease back into exercise because if I take on too much at once, I will not stick with it. Unfortunately I am so out of shape that I no longer have the stamina for 4 miles on a treadmill at a 5% incline. I miss my treadmill so much.

G'nite! emoticon

I am up too late again, just finished cooking dinner for tomorrow (and my lunch as well) I find if I plan a little ahead, its half the battle. This weekend I will be including 20 - 30 minutes of cardio to my day. Then I should really see a difference! Starting slow so I don't overload.

Going to sleep now, just cking in.

I hope all is well with you both, talk to you tomorrow!

I am so glad that your toe feels better today. I know what you mean about feeling hungry. I have been eating so much better the past few days that my body is in shock and I have not adjusted yet. I know from experience that if I stick with it and give myself a little time that the cravings will get better. It is hard, but I am determined and so far am staying on track.

Love you too Diana! You too Lisa. :)

Thank you Ladies! Yes, just inches forward is still FORWARD! I think that this website is totally awesome, I try and explain the experience to other people, but they really don't get unless they dive in and try it. On the other hand, it can be stressfull too---I remember getting flustered when I didn't have the time to log in food, water, excercise, recipes, etc. I think its like anything else, find your nitch and use what you can!

Lisa, to answer your question about veggie lifestyle, I really don't even think about it anymore. Once in a while, a burger sounds so good and chicken wings too. I knew that those two things would reoccur but its not difficult to brush it off. Friends of mine asked me to watch a video about "Farm to Fridge" on Youtube... I couldn't watch but less than a minute and shut my eyes, but was still able to hear it... I had to stop the video. It was that simple, IDK, maybe I was meant to be a vegetarian... ??? anyway, take a look if you wish and let me know what you think. Honestly I am uncomfortable with all the drugs and hormones that are given to the animals as well as the conditions they "live" in. I did have a cheeseburger a while back after not eating meat for about 6 months and I honestly almost fell asleep on my desk a few hours later. It was like sleeping pills for me. Veggies, Beans, and whole grains are so yummy and there are so many recipes out there to try. We have our share of pizza and bean tacos and nachos.. (thus the fat vegetarian.. LOL) but those things are going to have to be just for the kids. I am lucky to have two kids who try all kinds of new things and like most of what I (we) cook. If its something that may be a little "tricky" to introduce, I have them cook it with me only supervising and they are proud to eat it.

I am hoping that I didn't break my baby toe today, I stubbed it REAL good this am, and its now swollen and pounding. I really can't put any weight on it so I am kinda bummed. Hopefully the swelling and pain will subside soon, I need to be walking at lunch!!

Talk to you all later, hope you both have a great night!

Good morning, ladies!

Diana, never be too hard on yourself. You are human, so you will slip from time to time. Just remember that this is hard and as long as you are trying, just let the occasional slip fall to the side, pick yourself up, and continue to move forward. You are trying to break two habits at once...I admire you so much for taking that on...so as hard as this is for me and Lisa, it is even more challenging for you. I fully understand the peanut butter and crackers thing....Mountain Dew is my thing that is most difficult to give up. I have only had one since Labor Day and am really struggling with that one. You can do this!

Lisa, I know that we can all do this. I am so happy that the Sparklin' Sparkettes are coming back to life. As I have said many times, I miss our little group of friends so much and some of the happiest days of my life were here on SparkPeople. I really believe we were good for each other.

It would be so wonderful if Laura would come back too. Let's do this ladies! I had a good eating day yesterday....I only logged part of my food, so I am off to finish that and see exactly how I did calorie wise.

Have a great day! emoticon

Hello Sparkettes,
I did pretty well today, even took a bite (one bite) of a cookie and threw the rest out. I came home from work and mowed the grass which is now on steriods with all this rain. All in all a good day, and the feeling in my belly of "HEY WHAT THE HECK!!!" is a good one... I know that you guys know what I'm talking about......

Debbie, being brave is such a big step--getting on that scale knowing its not gonna be good, is our first steps. I will honestly be updating my ticker and I hope to have lost 10 lbs by Labor day... 15 would be great, but I am being realistic for me. Goals not met can be detrimental to me! I am easing into this, and am not going to be hard on myself, but the late night snacking and binge eating of peanut butter and crackers has to end.

Welcome Back to all of us... Lisa, I know that you never really left, and your progress shows your commitment!

For me, eating “clean” seems to work best. I have known for years that a low-carb diet works best for me but now I understand why; it works because it is naturally gluten/wheat free. Now that I am diabetic, it is vital that I watch my sugar/carb intake….after all, the body recognizes carbs as sugar. So, I am eating clean rather than low-carb. I just can’t survive on a low carb diet indefinitely; I love fruit too much. So, I will be focusing on eating fresh fruits/vegetables, lean meats in the form of baked, broiled, braised, pan fried in olive oil only beef, fish, pork, and poultry.

The scale was not kind. It makes me sick to think that I gained back so much of the weight I worked so hard to take off. It will not be as easy this time around since I lost my treadmill in the fire April a year ago. I will take advantage of the very nice neighborhood I now live in and go for a walk after dinner every evening. That will be my starting point to work myself back into regular exercise. I am so out of shape that the weight should just fall off….though I know it won’t because I don’t lose as easily as I used to because of my age and of course, diabetes makes it more difficult to lose weight. I am not making excuses, only being realistic. I am committing to eating healthier and losing this weight. My age and health may slow me down, but I will persevere! I need to lose 145 pounds.

SHORT TERM GOALS:

1. To eat “clean” by cutting out all processed foods and eating only fresh fruits, veggies, and lean beef, pork, fish, and chicken (cooked in a healthy way). My daily calorie goal is 1220 to 1570.

2. To start walking for 30 minutes every evening.

3. To lose 15 pounds by Labor Day.

LONG TERM GOALS:

1. To make eating clean and being more active to maintain a better weight and health a life-style rather than a “weight-loss program.”

2. To lose 145 pounds.

3. To go into remission so that diabetes will no longer be a part of my life!!!

I am so happy for you, Lisa. Sometimes it takes a while to figure out what works best for you and I truly believe that a lot of people have undiagnosed food allergies that are causing weight gain and is the underlying cause of many chronic conditions. For me, it is wheat/gluten. I think that everyone would be better off eating "clean."

Congrats on the weight loss!

Hi Lisa & Diana. I had no idea that the two of you were posting here again. I have missed this team so much. The thing that keeps me away from Sparkpeople is that it just isn't the same without you guys. I was thinking last night that I need to at least be coming here to log my meals, even if there isn't anyone to talk to. I have tried several other teams over the past few years and they are just not the same at all. I will watch the Sparkpage notifications closer now and will hopefully see you guys here from time to time.

I am here for you guys any time! :) I have recently started eating better and am going to go weigh myself and set some goals and join you guys in this new weight loss journey.

Hi Lisa, How are you doing? I have been easing into this but tomorrow its official. Tomorrow is day one of the direction I need to go in. I am tired of feeling bloated all the time and uncomfy in my clothes. I stopped smoking (again) and have a few other things going on that it is clearly time to mend this out of shape jiggly body! I haven't even started to think about goals, but my cousin Laura put a little spark into my ear the other day and here I am...

Wow! I do like me some ghost town! emoticon Tumble weeds passing by...

So I am just going to update some stuff about me.
My son and I are determined to get to a healthy weight. He needs to lose about 100 pounds. I need to lose about 220 pounds.

We recently rejoined the gym I had been very active at until my dad got cancer 6 years ago. What does this mean? emoticon I am going to the gym 5 to 7 days per week. My son is going with me. He will be 20 in a few weeks. We started out at first doing only strength machines for the first few weeks. Why? As weak as we both were, I figured we needed to build up a little muscle mass so that when we started burning calories aerobically, it would be more calories burned. Lets face it, inactive body tissue is weight on vacation... active body tissue(muscle) is weight that is working. We are now alternating days of strength training with aerobic machines. We will eventually do aerobic machines on the days we do strength as well.

We recently began to actively eat healthier: What does this mean? It means we have looked at what is considered healthy foods and what is considered unhealthy. We are no longer buying the bad stuff. We have also begun to eliminate items from the Virgin Diet plan. The following items are supposed to be restricted for 21 days then slowly reintroduced to see if we have some allergic reaction. The items in question are: Soy, Dairy, Peanuts, Gluten, Corn, Eggs, Sugar and artificial sweeteners.
We now eat fresh fruits and salads daily. I also include lean protein like fish or skinless chicken. Veggies, legumes and rice round out our eating plan.

Since we started following both of the above directives about 7 weeks now, we have dropped a lot of weight. My son is down by 25 pounds at last count. I am down by 27.

It is working. YAY!

I have a goal to drop 23 more pounds by Labor Day. That is 9 weeks from now.
emoticon
