Hi friends.
Still working at it. Got down to 14 on 1 day this week but mostly about 17. I am happy with my progress. It is NOT dictated by time or anything else and I am not panicking about it. I find without the stress of a deadline, that I am doing better than ever.
I have had a rough fall and winter this last 2 seasons. My pain levels are growing steadily and my Tylenol 3 no longer helps with the pain. Now we move on to an MRI and nerve blocks in my neck and back. MRI is March 21 so just hanging on, one day at a time to get by.
DH and I have a busy summer and fall ahead of us. I have gained about 25lbs since JUly of 2014. I can really feel it and it is adding to the pain levels. Dr has put me back on the GI DIET and DH is on board with me. I am nearly totally dependent now, only really able to manage my personal care and still require help into and out of the shower. Got my hair cut very short and spiky so it is quicker to wash and a little dab of gel and a ruffling of the top bring it up . SImple to care for and I like it.

WIll drop in again soon.

Stepping on that scale can be hazardous to one's health. I have found going by how my clothes fit works better for me. Have one pair of jeans I use, instead of a scale. Only scale I step on is at the doctors office.
You should pat yourself on the back for a good week of your quit. emoticon

emoticon KAHLAD on going almost entire week without smoking. That is quite an accomplishment. Falling for I can have one since I did not smoke was my downfall. One leads to smoking full time.

Not losing is better than gaining. Don't worry about the weight. Women's hormones fluctuate many times daily and you may not lose even when you do everything right.

Get the quitting down. Than, work on the weight.

I lost 0 this week. I need to change some things up so that I have a loss next Friday.

I have been doing pretty good with not smoking. I went almost a full week without one but then slipped. I had 12 this week. I step at a time.....

IHAVE9GRANDKIDS!

Yesterday, every time I reached for a smoke, I would stop myself and tell myself to just wait a few more minutes. It worked great and I smoked almost half as much as usual! I was so surprised when I got home and still had almost a half a pack left! At ten o'clock last night I smoked the last one in the pack. I usually smoke a whole pack from the time I leave for work until shortly after I get home from work.
I will try it again today too:)

Well Tee, around here March is coming in like a Lion. This time though its bring rain off an on through next Wednesday. Sure hope all this ice and packed snow leaves till next November.
The news has reported several house fires in the last week, plus a house explosion which the Fire Marshals are looking into the cause. Yep, time change is a week from Sunday and Easter is not that far off as well.

Hope everyone is finally getting a break in this weather. Personally, can not wait to see that first flower peek through. Have a great tomorrow and a better weekend.

I hope weather warms up for everyones sake.

There was lots of black smoke in the air when I opened the blinds this morning. A house on my block was on fire. I was sneezing, etc by time I closed my windows. Then, I came down with headache. So, I stayed home instead of going to gym.

It has been light until 6 pm. Daylight savings time is only 10 days away. I hope it brings warmer weather with it. emoticon

Sorry I have been missing. I am trying to get adjusted to med change and work on sleeping thru night. .

My classmate of 12 years died suddenly from heart attack on Sunday. We were classmates from kindergarten and best friends in high school. The news of her passing was shocking since she posted to school facebook group a short time before dying.

60-70s here with rain due on Saturday.

Hope everyone has nice Thursday.

When I cut down that one cig, it was for a week at a time. Took me 20 weeks but it was worth it!
My body had time to adjust to the drop in nicotine as well as myself adjusting. That last free pack I still have. It's hidden somewhere here as a reminder that it has not been needed.

Anything is possible if you put your mind to it! emoticon

I love that idea Michele! I did try it and cutting our 1 a day was a little too fast for me. I had to cut one a day for a few days or a week, then cut down one more the next week. I did get down to a pack a day, but I had to constantly be conscious of every cig I smoked. It lasted for a really long time though. I think I will do that again:)

Gini ... Less of that smoke is better. 18 is better than 20 and 17 is even better. Hibernation weather is not a good proving ground for beginning a quit or to continue one. Tee's right, hold off till that Spring thaw. emoticon emoticon emoticon . Practice decreasing 1 cig a week. try for 15 the second week of March. Slips will and can happen, emoticon With a craving try a glass of water, as with a craving for food the water may turn out to fill that void. Try a lollipop or hard candy ( sugarless is good ) its the sucking motion you want to mimic as though you are smoking. ( works well with that water in a Water Bottle ). Keep an empty pack of cigs. each day as you pull out a cig place it in that empty pack and watch your pack steady grow to 20 as your pack you're using gets fewer and fewer. That empty pack will at 20 be a free pack. Continuing that practice will also give you accountability as you quit. As you have a visual on your progress. Remember the year you started, Rome was not built in a day. Quitting for some does not happen over night! emoticon

Hi everyone! I think as long as you keep trying to quit, you will do it someday! I think you have to really hate smoking more than you love it before you can actually quit, and then they say it will be easy. I don't know...I have never been there yet:)

Gini,

Cutting back is good even if only by two. Keep trying and you will win. Some of us tried quitting several times before succeeding.

Spring might be a better time for you to try since you can get outdoors. emoticon

Well. Here I am , ffinally! Things are about the same as forever with the only difference being that I am down to 20 to 22 cigarettes daily. That is much better than I was doing. I took Champix faithfully for 28 days with no change in my cravings . I never didn't think about a cigarette every hour or so. I read the instructions and it is possible to take the pills for up to 35 days and still smoke but after 35 days I would HAVE to have stopped smoking. That is not going to happen. I am back to square 1 but at least I gave it my best attempt.

I am so tired of snow. It snowed another 10 cm. today. I had dreams of going to Walmart with my BFF but she called and said too much snow, AGAIN!!!! I have been outside for fewer than 10 days this winter since December 1. I have a severe case of cabin fever and it and trying to quit smoking has played havoc with my food intake. I have gained 9 lbs in the past month alone!!!!

When do I get to win a round? I am so sick of losing every step of the way.

Thanks for the comments. My bp was 180/95 before bed last night. It was high this morning before taking any medication and higher after taking medication. I will take my bp at pharmacy since their machine is accurate. I did this in past and emailed results to myself and never had the type of reading I am getting with new machine.

Kahla ... Hope your movie night was as planned..Pizza has always been a go to vent here. Love picking up the phone and having a meal delivered. However I go for the Hoagies, thus leaving me with lunch or dinner the next day. Always cut them into half for another meal. Then add that carb count in for the next day and minutes extra for exercise. The gift of those recipes is a great idea. They would also be something he can pass on as well.

Tee ... sorry your having problems with B/P, a high one can burn energy as well as introducing other problems. Follow the doc's orders on your medicine controlling the cortisol. Stress as you know also contributes to that cortisol level.

Another snowy day today and tomorrow. Think I'll stay in hibernation until March 1st, after that warmer weather is stated to arrive in this area. Believe the total this week is 8 inches and so far today we have gained 3-4 inches and it is not Monday as yet. ........................

Stay warm and Be safe!

Tee, sorry you are having trouble with your blood pressure.

We tried a new recipe for breakfast this morning....apple bacon breakfast flatbread. I got it off the Pillsbury website. It was delicious! My son said we could put it in our recipe book. Ever since he was little I have been putting together a recipe book of "family favorites". I figure when he gets married I can give a copy to him and his bride. I even have little stories with some of the recipes.

It's "date night" with my son tonight. We are going to see the movie McFarland USA and out for pizza. We have a favorite pizza place that we haven't been to in quite awhile so he is suffering "Angelos Pizza withdrawals". Since he has been so good with helping me stay on track I am treating him to his favorite. I know it will put me over my calorie range today but I'm alright with that. Sometimes that is going to happen.

Great about your weight loss Kahla. Every little bit helps.

The ports are open Sue. Dock workers came to agreement. I hope this does not mean you have to work over weekend.

Sorry it is cold and snowy Michele. I hope my prayers for you to get warmer weather works as well as resolving dock strike.

I did not sleep Thurs night and felt awful when I saw doc the next morning. Her bp machine did not work and took my bp three times. Of course, it was high the last time, but decreased some after 15 minutes. Doc said my weight and bp increase is due to Addison medication (cortisol), which she increased in Nov. She prescribed bp med and told me to take if bp is 150 or more in morning. I bought bp machine and sure enough my bp rose each time I took cortisol. I was falling asleep when I took it last and it was 170/87. Either my bp is high or new machine is wrong. I won't get answer if I email doc and don't know what to do over the weekend. Doc agreed to decrease cortisol gradually, which will take 2 weeks. I want to decrease cortisol tomorrow so my bp returns to normal.

emoticon Heat wave ... 20 F ... but nor for long. Way more snow coming in over night, the winter mix, followed by rain, for Saturday. Tonight not as low as last night as it will be above 0. March is less than a week away, " just bring it on emoticon !!!!

Got my Walking in today on the outside, spent a good 21/2 hours all to myself and Nature and of course People. emoticon emoticon . Shelves were almost out at the grocery store and people were driving around for parking places. So as of mid-night we will begin to count the inches for a count of 8 inches of new snow on top of the 3 inches we still have. This is the fifth weekend of snow in this area. Yet, we can not forget the ice that is due after the snow. Oh, MY!!!!!!

Tee, I hope the doc gets you sleepin like a baby soon!

Snuzsuz, I bet it was nice sleeping on your new mattress.

I weighed in this morning and only had a point 2 loss. I am actually happy with that considering I was sick for a couple days and didn't work out or eat right.

That's funny about the snicker bar! I just saw that commercial last night on tv where the guy was cranky and they gave him a snicker bar and was all better:)
Well, I did it again! I got off work early, since all the ports were closed, and my new mattress arrived, so I set it up and made my bed, and fell asleep. I just woke up and it's 2 in the morning! So glad it's Friday!

Sorry you feel asleep after work and up all night. We seem to be on the same schedule Sue.

My neighbor got new stove and offered to make me dinner last night. I was pleased since I had sciatic pain and did not plan to get off sofa to cook. I fell asleep on sofa around 9 pm, got up, went to bed and slept until 10 am. I see doctor today and hope she changes my meds so I can sleep normally, etc.

Welcome to a Sunny day here just South of Cincinnati, from the sun being out for the past 3 days the 8 inches we have outside since Friday has now becoming only 4 inches and a cold 5 above and a -15 for tonight. Alaska has our normal Winter and the lower 48 has Alaska's Winter temps. So far though not the -50 and below. Who's to say ..... What's next.

Stay warm, Be Healthy and Be Safe!

My boss just handed me a Snickers bar! He said I was kind of cranky yesterday and needed one but he didn't have one to give me, so he brought one in this morning. I will just hold on to it until I want a chocolate fix.

Tee, I heard about that on the news! I didn't know you were so close. I'm glad you are all right though, but how scary!
Kahla, glad you made through work yesterday and hope it's a good day for you today too!
Michele, I wish they could truck tons of that snow here! Put it on all our ski resorts and we would have the run off in the spring:)
I fell asleep after work again, and woke up at 3am so this is going to be a long day!

I have been having problems with Spark. Can't sign in, post, etc. There was a Exxon refinery explosion a few miles from my apt this morning. It was scary. Felt like earthquake. Lots of broken windows, ash, etc in the air. Residences have been told to keep windows closed.

I had terrible sciatic pain from swimming three days in row, which affects my left leg. I iced area, took Advil and watched PBS show Italian American's for two hours last night. I learned a lot about my grandparents coming to America and look forward to seeing part 2 of show on Thursday.

Happy Ash Wednesday!

SNUZSUZ, I did go to work yesterday and made it through the day. I got sleepy about 2 but I made it. Back at it again today.

I did not get up and swim this morning. With as cold as it is and just getting over being sick I'm going to pass on the swimming for now (only because I leave the Y with a wet head). I am doing other workouts. I picked up my yoga mat yesterday and my Biggest Loser Yoga for Weight Loss DVD should be in next week.

We are the proud owner of 2 more inches of emoticon and there is plenty more on the way before Sunday. Temp right now 17 F and dropping. I'm getting used to this Winter hibernation ..... though I'm not of the emoticon family.

Glad to see that our quits are still progressing and with good effort. For those still thinking about that quit, keep thinking. Failure happens only when you quit trying! Take a piece of paper, Headings of Pros and Cons. Once completed, use the Heading of Health. List under Health using your Pros and Cons, why you want to quit. thinking than continues. Wow! Michele, I have heard on the news that this is the worst winter on the record! I hope you are feeling better!
Tee, how are you? I noticed you have not been on here yesterday, sure hope you're okay!
Kahlid, hope you are feeling better too! Did you go to work? How was it?
Sounds like everyone is sick or getting sick. I was sick all day Monday, but felt better yesterday.
Hope everyone stays warm and has a good day!

Michele142, sorry to hear you woke up not feeling well.

It is cold here in northeast Illinois and I hear it is supposed to be colder this weekend with flurries. I just hope it doesn't snow too much as Saturday my son and I have a "date" for dinner and a movie.

Woke this morning with heavy pressure over eyes and sounding as if I was in a well. We are supposed to have a high of 18 today and 0 tonight. Snow flurries in the morning. Frankly don't feel my routine with my sinuses will not change any until April. Have not been out since Sunday and hoping to make it out tomorrow. Have a bunch of errands that need done before Saturday.
We are to have additional snow accumulations for this weekend.

Today is Fat Tuesday, tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and Easter is the 5th of April. How time flies........

If your quitting and snow bound, the conditions are right for cravings. If one hits try exercising, downing that water, grabbing some fruit or veggies. Stay strong and this some will pass.

Rest and feel better. I has stuffy nose, etc. when I woke yesterday morning. I took Mucinex and felt better than when I took Claritin.

More snow is last thing you need. I hope someone digs car out for you. -17 where my sister lives but no snow.

It was sunny, windy and 60 here today. A big drop from 80s over weekend. It is foggy tonight and my hip aches from swimming three days in row.

I stayed home from work today because I'm still not feeling good. I went through 2 boxes of Kleenex yesterday. Today hasn't been too bad but my son did have to go buy me more Kleenex. I am really tired of eating chicken noodle soup!

I haven't smoked since Friday night! I hope I can keep this going...

emoticon It has been snowing since 5 this morning and at present the snow is just below the front and back grill of the car. Snow plow has been through on the roads twice and the roads are covered once again. Plow went through the driveway and left me are 6 inch cradle around the car. This snow is supposed to end in only flurries by midnight tonight with the Winter Warning up at 5 tomorrow morning.

Now all that is needed around here, is not to run into more since problems. Hope everyone is warm and Safe for the rest of this week. For us we have another Storm due in here the weekend.

More snow! Poor you. Spring is 25 days away, but I hope it arrives sooner for snowed in states.

Stuffy nose, etc is common here due to constant changing weather, etc. Claritin D and Benadryl really worked for me. I felt the best I have in a week.

Stuffy nose/sore throat an old Winter friend for me! This winter has rocked my sinuses worse than the blizzard of 1976. Sun out early this morning, slight breeze and temps in the lower teens and dropping. City trucks out priming the roads and side streets at present. In the last 2 hours. Neighbor salting our driveway and his as well. I was out before noon and stocked up of groceries we need at least through Thursday. Front has moved North of the Ohio so instead of a dusting we are to get 4-6 inches by Tuesday morning.

This coming Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, so Spring is about a month away. emoticon Those with a quit going, pat yourself on your back. emoticon
Have a Safe and Warm week! emoticon
