Been away, hubby fell shortly after mid-night Sunday morning and was admitted to the hospital with a snapped right Femur. He went to surgery and had it realigned Monday at 1:00 pm. He now has had the femur put back together and a rod running the length of the femur. On top of that he lost a lot of blood during surgery and has had a mental reaction to the pain medication he was been receiving. So I will be posting as I can until he comes home.
Need all the prayers available out there. Michele

Congratulations on the weight loss, Netsue! Michele, my Father's Day was uneventful, as my Father has been gone for 10 years this year. I wanted to go put flowers on his grave, but never made it out there. It's only about 15 miles away but since my A/C in my car isn't working right, I have been staying in most of the time. Excuses, excuses! I should have gone!

Morning All.....Must have been a fun Father's Day as the Café has been empty. Hope all those Fathers had a great Day! We had rain here early this morning and again right after Lunch time. Not a wash-out here! It did however cool things down around here. ...... Have a great weekend and be Safe!

Michele, sometimes I copy the page they wrote on then run it through again to copy the front of the card. Other times it's just the inside of the card if they wrote on both pages. To me, the sentiment is in what the kids wrote.
Congrats Netsue on the weight loss! It's always a welcome sight isn't it!?!

I had some very good news this morning. I weighed myself, not expecting very much and was very surprised that I lost 1.5 pounds! The scale hasn't moved down in so long I thought it would never happen.
On top of that, I am finally out of the obese range on the BMI! It's sounds funny, but I am very excited to be "overweight"!

Melissa....when scanning, are you scanning the entire card or just the front?
Cool cloudy day, temps in the upper 70s. with no humidity at present. Hope today is to your liking and everyone is Safe. Keep your focus on those quits, where it's to still think about starting a quit or to continue on and keep that quit going strong. Enjoy the weekend, like a tomorrow, we are not promised a another!

We always display the cards for about a week & then they get recycled. For the last several years, I started scanning in the good ones from the grand kids!

Going through the top shelf of bedroom closet the other day and discovered 27 years of birthday, anniversary, Easter, Christmas, Valentines Day plus more. Over half of the cards were from friends an family that are no longer amongst us. Left them out so I could go through them but, hubby beat me to them. They were a big downer to him an he has been too quiet this past few days. Did not expect those cards to depress him so much. This morning he went threw them again and is more receptive and is beginning to open up. What I enjoy are those cards from the grand-kids and great-grands showing their beginning to print with the advancement through the years with their writing. Memories, there were many just in those cards. The special ones are the Home-Made ones, to me they are the ones from the Heart.

Greeting cards are nice to get and to give. But what do you do with them after the occasion has passed? I hate throwing them away when they mean so much to me, but then I don't like holding on to a bunch of cards that I will never use either:) I often keep the really special ones with my photo's and like to read them again every now and then.

Greeting cards were always a thing for my mom when I was growing up. We always tried to find just the bestest card ever for birthdays, mom/dad's day, anniversaries, thank-you's, & Christmas. No matter the financial problems, the card was always the most wonderful thing to get. Of course, back then the cards were $.25 cents tops - now they can be so expensive but I still like the cards because that is supposed to say how you feel about a person & if the card didn't have the right words, you wrote it. I've seen more tears rolling down cheeks from a simply sentiment written in a greeting card. Make it a part of your tradition to teach your children how to speak from their hearts.

Temperature tonight are 20 degrees lower than this morning and windy as well. Rain now to the East Coast and none due till Sunday. Cool here for the rest of the week, with nice sleeping weather. This MIAer will be off an on until those cable companies can get everyone from the old company up and completely running by the new company the rest of this month. Have a good evening and a better day tomorrow.

Humid as all ...........thought about going back up North to get some of that Canadian air. Would like to do some walking this afternoon but just to humid for me. ........... Sunday is Dad's day, everyone ready? DH's oldest Son sent a card yesterday as he will be at the lake for Father's Day with his family and my oldest daughter wished him a Happy Father's Day. She told him she was wishing it now as she did not want to forget him. So that leaves his remaining three and my youngest daughter. Think I will send him a card as well as lately he has been treating me as a daughter, with a pat on the head when he walks by. ................ Time to imagine yourself as Smoke Free, for those who are still on their journey it is time to focus on what you have accomplished. Never quit a Quit, one day that will point the way to a successful Quit.

I hope he takes the criticism, as constructive and really listens to you! Especially if he has never smoked! Yesterday the weather was so nice! We dropped 30 degrees overnight and a few clouds came in with the delta breeze. It was only 71 degrees, perfect weather:) of course it is heating up again, but only in the 80's for the next few days:)

NETSUE, the boss is planning on marketing this program. It's not a program for employees. There is actually only 4 people who work in this company including the boss & now (thank goodness I joined this list) we are all smoke free. I'm just not sure how he will take criticism of his project.

Melissa, it sounds like it's not going to be a very successful program if it's going to turn people off. I think it's especially tricky if work tries to do it because it will be yet one more thing the smokers are being told to do and they will resist.
Perhaps you could suggest he look at some current programs, like "quit for life" and see the materials they use. I wasn't turned off by their suggestions.
Good luck!

Morning or what is left of it.....Took a while before falling asleep last night, as just to exhausted to sleep along with the humidity I came home too. the Princess picked up to more Ribbons Saturday and as usual she has been beaming from ear to ear. She spent Saturday caring for Clover after her events and helped the other girls care for their horses as well. She is getting to be a real Trooper. Once she dropped of to Nod Land, Saturday night she easily slept 13 hours. Next Hunter showing is in July, I believe there are 2 for July. Me I'm still trying to recover.
Hope everyone has continued with their quits, once Summer appears with the Summer gatherings it can be hard to keep that quit when you maybe around others that smoke. Whether you are quitting for a better lifestyle on your own, or because of the demands of health, it is totally worth the Quit!

Melissa, sounds like a good chance to let them know what material at times can turn people off on quitting and add what turns people to quitting. Be a book reviewer, and point the problems out. There were many programs I stopped reading or wqtching because I could easily tell that they were not or never did smoke. There is a big difference in smoking an being around someone that smiked. Those to do not equal out. Then again you were a smoker, write a "Stop Smoking Guide" of your own, send me a copy an I'll push it entucky

My boss & his gal are creating a quit smoking program. He's asked me to review the book that they want to publish with a DVD. His gal was a previous smoker & his mom was a smoker (died from smoking) but he has never lit up. You can tell he's never smoked.
It's an interesting concept to work on altering our thoughts/feelings & not be self defeating in the process of quitting but the 1st 9 pages kind of felt like a lecture & touted a lot of the figures of dying from a smoking related death. I wished I hadn't told him I would do this because this lecture thing or death threat thing never worked on me - in fact it made me want to smoke more. So I don't have a lot of compliments to give him & I'm finding it hard to continue reading it.
Wish me luck!

Snuzie......Sounds like UR son could use an e-cig for that one a daycrave, helps during periods of stress/cravings, get mine out frequently during a full moon other wise would be back at it. .......
A message to those not seen on the threads. ..... Staying with us and posting helps with accountability, encouragement, motivation and above all you might pick up a few tricks of a quit. Pledging on the Pledge thread also helps with accountiblity as explained previously. U don't have to be totally quit to Pledge that NOPE.

My youngest son who is 35 years old, quit smoking about a year ago. Lately, he has been smoking just one cigarette, every now and then. It is so discouraging to see him slowly starting again. He says he doesn't even know why. He just wanted to take a couple of puffs one day, and now is smoking one almost every day. I feel so bad for him. He was really hard for him to quit, but after he did, he felt so much better and was so happy he did. He is going through a really tough time right now, so I hope it is only the stress and that he will quit again soon.

I am so happy to hear about the successful quitters! You guys should be really proud of yourselves. Keep checking in please because you give me hope.
Yesterday was the first time I can remember in a long time where I thought maybe I could set a date again. That's a good step by itself because it's been a few weeks since I even thought maybe I could.
Have a good day everyone!

Hello again team!
Michele, our property is not very close to a water way so we don't have the problems with bears like other areas. Bears are looking for fish so they stay pretty close to the water ways & if the fish are gone or they've discovered an easy way to get a meal (ie. garbage cans) then they move to populated areas. I hear tell that Anchorage is getting hit pretty good right now, especially the rich hill side.
JMC, they say nothing is as good as skinny feels but the person who said that has never smoked. Honestly, nothing is as good as a final quit & that feeling of freedom. I would gain weight all over again to get my quit, it's been that good, that important to me! I have felt confident enough in my quit over the last several months to regain my weight loss efforts without relapsing on the nicotine. I chose my battle with nicotine & won it. Now the battle for my weight is ongoing. Congrats on your 6 months!! You'll notice a big change in a month or two - it'll bring a LOT of relief!!

Melissa,
Been reading an hearing that the Bear population around your way has begun moving into towns. If so, how is that working out? ......
Hope today has a good beginning for everyone....especially with the weather. Hopefully we have another day without rain, wind and humidity. Nothing special planned for today - only planning for the week. ........... Catch you tonight ( ? ).

JMC, you are not alone by a long-shot. This last month has been a plateau for me with cravings for sweets ( not cig. ). When I check back on the day with Tracking, the keyword comes up sweets. I will say that the cravings are slowing, blood sugars are back in target range and weight is holding its own. Sill hanging on to my quit and beginning to feel accountable once again. ............ ..... Awoke this morning from a peaceful sleep. the forecast was for thunderstorms through the night and early this morning. For a change it did not happen. Today is to be cooler and dry for a change but for how long no one knows. Have a great Sunday and a better week.

Congratulations on keeping your quit! That is the best thing you can do for you. Those pounds will come off, but not smoking is probably part of why you have gained them in the first place:)
Starting from the beginning again. May has knocked the wind out of my sails and put seven pounds back on me. Looking back over the month the only healthy thing I am doing is keeping my quit. Now I could go into a long list of excuses for not doing what I know I need to do. But that is just it they are excuses. What I did discover is I haven't learned how to control my emotional eating. I have been exercising to compensate for it, go from doing something everyday back to nothing. You see that those slips make a difference. Today is my back to reality check day, pull myself up and start again. The positive here is I did not gain everything back and I am smoke free. I belong to several teams, but for some reason this group has kept me coming back. So thank you for putting up with me and helping with my quit.
Four weeks away from the wedding and I need to get rid of the seven pounds I have put on in the last month plus a few more. As the day I fell I bought a dress and it was a little tight. Wearable if I didn't drop anymore weight and would be fine with a few more gone. So the goal is to get back to 203 before the 4th of July and not beat myself up for not being in the 180's.
Everyone have a wonderful Sunday.

Thunder off in the distance now, so seems tonight's entertainment is about to start. Oops, rain starting, no lightening as of yet. what we are getting now was passing through Louisville shortly after 6 p.m.. Once through here this round is heading North East and North.
Hope everyone has a quiet night as the past seven days has not been kind to many of us. If out and about, keep a watchful eye on the skies, weather does not look good throughout the country the majority of next week. ...... Have a good nights sleep and Stay Safe!

Power off again a 3a.m. and back on by 5:30 a.m.. Calm at present however, storms heading up from South Eastern Kentucky through Louisville to the North East of the U.S. .....Florida is having their problems plus the Gulf has decided to start acting up along with Bermuda Waters. .... Now, let me get this straight: Tornadoes, flooding, and deaths in the plains through to the Mississippi River. then flooding through the low areas of South Eastern Kentucky with 1 death so far, winds picking up on the Coast lines of Florida causing rip tides, Hurricane Season starts today. Possible tornadoes tomorrow for Maine ( of all places), so is any one BORED! Let's add Flooding along the Mississippi River an the Ohio River Valley through next week, so might as well add the Missouri River, Have I left anything out? What's next

It's amazing how it can be so hot and dry here and so horrible of weather all over the rest of the country! I'm afraid we are due for some natural disaster soon too!

Evening, power finally back on and has been working fine. Played pioneer woman most of the afternoon and evening. That storm was a gusher and then some have not seen it rain like that in decades. Thank goodness it wasn't snow! ...... Hope a quiet night was had by most. .........Hope everyone is ready for the weekend and that the weather is to your liking. I intend to enjoy what is given me and Hope for the sunshine.

Last year I worked the night shift almost every shift, but since coming back this year, they have me all over the board. That's when it is hard to get into any normal routine. I never know what shift I will be working, or even what days of the week until right before:)

You are welcome Gini, quits are not easy by a long shot. You will know when that go's off, an you will find, you are on your way. ......... JMC...does take a heavy commitment to get back on track and keep up that quit as well as getting back on the fitness and healthy eating band wagon. In the end, it is worth every minute of it. .................................................................................... Snuzie...I've often thought about going back to work.....then I start to think how I hated to get up in the morning. Night shift was my bag my whole working life. Mainly because I hated that morning rise. .................................................................................................. Life at times is like playing cards, you do the best with what you are dealt.
Have a better day tomorrow!

It's funny now, but if I would have come in at 6am, I wouldn't be laughing about it then:)
Hi All. I'm not doing as well as I had hoped with this quit. It has been slowly climbing back up there. Today I was able to reduce by 3 more. I just keep at it and sooner or later it will work out. I refuse to get all stressed up over this. Only makes me sad and crazier. Jeania, keep working it girl. Add a few more minutes of cardio and ST if you can and stay at the lower end of your range if possible. You can for sure lose a bit more and if you are lucky it will be enough. I have faith in you and Sparks. Suz- I was never early for work. LOL Glad your friend called you. That would ruin your whole day for sure. Michele- Thanks for having my back and for leading this team. It is reassuring to know I have this team to come to when I am in the mood to post. Doesn't always work for me.

I have to work at 2 this afternoon, but for some reason, I had it in my mind that I had to go in at 6 this morning. Luckily, my coworker called last night and reminded me that I don't go in until 2 otherwise I would have showed up this morning for nothing:)

Nice sunny and breezy afternoon. temps to top out at 81-84 this afternoon and around 70 for tonight. Heard mid-west due today for more tornado activity, just hope they stay to the non-populated areas. Also heard that the Hurricane Season was predicted to be an active one this year. .............. Challenge your self this Summer and see just how many NOPEs you can post to keep that Quit moving along. If only 1 cig not smoked post it, 2-3 post a Nope, the more you post the closer you get to a smoke free life-style. Start the Autumn " Smoke-Free "

Checking in before work. Last day of finals, teachers will be wanting to check on their grade books and all of the end of the year things. I have another retirement party to go to tonight and the set up for my personal trainer. My daughter is chuckling over the trainer, because I had made a statement about it being silly to pay someone to make you exercise.
It is a month to the wedding and I am still 25 pound from where I wanted to be. I know I can't loose all of that. The goal is enough to make my dress fit comfortably.
Everyone have a great day.

I'm happy you had such a good weekend, Michelle! I was able to sleep last night, surprisingly! I have to work 6-2 again on Thursday and Sunday too. It's not too bad when you work the same shift a few days in a row!

Thank you all for the warm welcome back. Good job Gini on starting another quit. I don't know why but I am notT mentally ready to quit again. I don't know what I am waiting for! The eating and tracking are going pretty well, exercise is always a struggle but is improving, and stress isn't too horrible but I just can't get brave enough to do it again. It will come I know.
I missed you all but wasn't taking the time to visit my teams. I think I'll make sure to do it more often.
Happy Memorial Day!

Good Morning everyone, I have tossed and turned in bed all I can. Thunderstorms started around 2 AM. Now I enjoy l listening to light rain or small downpours. But lighting and thunder that shakes you out of bed not so much. I haven't even looked to see if this is going to stop any time soon.
Yesterday was the bike races and it was raining when the first race started. Later when the rain stopped, I did go down to see if I could take some photos. Parking was terrible by the start/finish line and I didn't think a 3 block walk was in order with my ankle. So no photos again this year. If it stops raining today, I am going to go take a few shots of the signs and bicycle they hang on main street. Planning for next years collages in my office. Had I know they would be of interest I would of started doing them years ago. Going to put together a Memorial Day one from last years day of taking flag pictures around town.
Stepped on the scale yesterday, after my trip to the pool. Which was a wonderful hour of walking and doing stretching of my ankle. The scale was kind to me only 3 pounds in 3 weeks of no exercise. Guess I haven't been eating as bad as I thought I was. Everyone have a safe and wonderful finish to this weekend.

Gini, that is great you will get to the 100% in time. I know it is not easy, still isn't for me. Right now I have been wanting one, not sure why. Today my smoking partner told me she goes out a different door so I don't see her leave. I think it is two fold as she has a health condition and was told to quit. So she doesn't want me starting again, but also she doesn't want anyone with her to know how much she is smoking. We can do this.

Hi Guys.
Well the news today is not 100% but 94%. I had 3 today. I am proud of my accomplishment today and will continue to work toward being smokefree as the time goes by. This time, no beating myself up. I got a flat tire, but did not run around and pop all the other tires. I just did my best and am back on the road. I ate well today and didn't have the snacks I keep thinking about. Can't have them anyway as my bloodsugar is too high and I am not allowed any sugar. LOL.Tomorrow we will see what the day brings but at this point I feel I had a positive day.

Welcome back you two! Jeania, sounds like a lot of fun! I hope you make it this year:)
Welcome back both of you. I am looking forward to hearing updates on anything and everything. Today is the start of the Snake Alley Criterium and Burlington Road Races. Each year I have lived here I say I am going to pack for an afternoon of watching and take my camera. Then I get downtown can't find a place to park and is has been so dang hot in the past, I just would give up and come home. This weekend it is suppose to be cool, so even with my foot maybe this is the year.
Today I go for more therapy on my foot. Looking forward to it, because it is water therapy. I might be more motivated to get out to the pool, with my foot as the purpose. It hurts more than it has lately, but I have been doing my exercises with it and icing it.
Everyone have a great Friday. Keep up your quits whatever stage it maybe in.
Jeania

Hi team. I also have been away for a very long time. I have no excuse except that I have been taking a back seat on all my teams. On we go.
Tomorrow is my quit date. It has finally arrived and I am good to go. I am using patches and will chew sugar free gum to help too. I know I have the support of everyone here. I hope to be here each day to keep you updated. I plan to be on SPark often each day for a while to keep me busy. I now have high blood pressure and I need to stop smoking and so here we go. I can do this with help. I am strong and I am ready. WHoo Hoo!!!

Hi everyone! I know I've been very absent, things have been crazy. I'm doing well with my diet, ok with my exercise, but the smoking is back. Not as much as before but getting closer. I do okay except when people around me are stupid and make me angry (like at work and when I'm driving). That's what really gets to me.
I still don't smoke in my car which does limit how much I smoke some. I always have to go somewhere to smoke so it's not convenient.
I hope everyone is doing ok.

Got out and did some walking while running errands. Got some AA foods in that I had forgotten yesterday and i still forgot the butter today. Guess I needed another reason to get out an check the shopping center out some more. Youngest daughter has a birthday the 31st, so will do checking on that.
started right before Dinner time. That rain was heavy an you could easily hear a pinging noise as it hit the driveway and the cars. Rained and blew for about an hour and now it is quiet as can be outside. The birds have stopped chirping though so perhaps another round is possible. .......... Sleep well tonight!

It's been cool here the past 2 days, only in the 70's. It is supposed to warm up again by next week. The pool at my apartments is already open and the kids here are having a ball in it! I think it usually opens on June 1st. but it has been really hot here lately. Well into the 90's last week:)
I have finally made it up early one morning this week. Would of been easy to stay in bed and a thunder storm is moving in. Right now it is 63 going to head up to the 80's. Work is crazy and no end to that in sight.

We have a stormy night here, a nail grabber, craving night with its own light show and boomers. So if you are around the Ohio River Valley this should be interesting for the next 72 hours. With that it is time to be lulled to sleep with those heavenly rain drops for a change. tight!
