Your very welcome Linda.

there for a while my slips were many and I found that the longer I waited to restart a quit, the longer it took me to grab hold of quitting once again. After a while a slip was just like "riding a bike...I got right up and started at that time".

When you get down, just give a click, there is always someone around. Michele

Thanks, Michele. It is nice to hear what others are doing. I think I'll just let my tracker do all the work for me and only look at it once in awhile.

I love your remembrance, "A slip is just a slip". It works for so many other things too.

Afternoon Linda, to answer I tracked for the first 4 months of my quit. Tracker on calendar and posted in the thread," Pledge your N.O.P.E." , actually, that thread keep me more accountable then tracking on my calendar. Yet, it is after all up to each individual as to how they keep track.

Good luck on your quit, remember, a slip is just a slip!

Good morning everyone. I don't write very often but do try to keep up with reading. Just wanted to say that I reached 100 days quit the other day and now I'm trying for 150 days. I'm wondering if it is not good to be tracking the days like I've been doing?

Hope everyone has a nice weekend, Linda

Spark Activity Tracker, System

Used to keep accountability of your activity with exercise including walking. You can find information to the right of many spark pages as well as on the Start page in the First Step portion of the Start Page. Basically a type of pedometer.

Hi. Welcome to the team. Congrats on your 6 days! I'm not much on going to quitting web sites. The more I read about them, the more I want one. So I really try not to even think about them. Notice that I don't even use the word any more? lol

Did find some really good sugar free Life Savers. Very strong flavors. They really have helped me.

Hi all.

Newbie here, posting, that is. Has anybody discovered Quitnet.com? I just did about a month ago and have been religiously checking in and reading voraciously the posts, testominials, chat room, etc., etc. and have found it to be an invaluable resource for quitting permanently. I've remained smoke-free for six days as of today, and I do believe this will be my last quit! The knowledge that a crave lasts only minutes is a big one for me!

There are many companies making Sugar Free candy and various products. If you have a Candy Store around you try them first, I find mine as Walgreens or Kroger. Since I'm Diabetic, guess they are easier for me to find.

Hey Snuzie .... are you getting any rain or is it only the middle to the Northern part of California? Understand the sandbags are being put in place. Believe there is Snow in them there mountains as well.

Have a good day tomorrow and stay warm!

I'm going to try the sugar-free lollypops as soon as I can find them. I'll stick one of them in my mouth rather than a cookie or bagel. I'm really tempted by carbs now.

Linda, don't feel bad. I've put on 20 pounds since I quit, and they kind of snuck up on me. I looked in the mirror one day and realized what happened. And even though the late night snacking urges still hit me, they aren't as bad as they were initially. You can get past this. It just takes a little time and some deep thought.

Hi Jayne. That's kind of how I've been. I have found out that stress is my biggest motivator and the habit of having a cig rather than food is right there behind the stress trigger. Just plain cold cash is my biggest reason for quitting. It's been almost 2 months now and I can't say I feel any better than before. Worse, actually. I've put on over 5 pounds and have to get control of my eating.

Linda, I quit in October. I can't say that I had real urges for nicotine after I quit, but I do still find myself at loose ends due to the habit. I often used smoking to fill the empty moments, or to give me a reason to take a break from tasks that I really didn't want to do.

Linda, that question varies with each individual quitter. Nicotine and 8 glasses of water per day took me 2 weeks to get to the point where those cravings were less and less. It can depend on long one has smoked and how much per day. What you can do when you get a craving is jot down what you were doing when that Triggered started a craving. Then work on finding what to do when you stumble of that trigger once again.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to be rid of the nicotine in one's body? Or better yet, the urge to have some more?

emoticon Linda, glad to have you aboard. Quitting is not an easy task. A person may quit many times before they finally make a quit permanent, those with the team are well aware that one can try many times before that quit happens. We all have had slip-ups and that is actually what they are. When slip-ups happen, one should get back on track, accept that is was a slip-up and the goal is the same. A permanent Quit! emoticon

emoticon Water is a must to help flush the Nicotine out of the system. Sugar Free Lollipops help with keeping something in you hand as if your holding a cig. Pretzels will also help, just remove some of the salt from that pretzel stix. Keep those hands busy, i.e. knitting, crocheting, journaling, taking a walk, exercising, or calling a friend.

Many different methods have been used, you are the only one that knows what is best for you. Pop yourself into the Cafe` anytime and let us know just how we can help or even to vent. Looking forward to seeing you on the threads.

emoticon Linda, great job on your quit. Wish I could tell you my quit was a year old but I can't. What I can tell you is the things that helped last year for almost 7 months. Water...water and then more water. I also used a straw, this will sound silly but it did help.

I cut straws the length of a cigarettes and even saved an old pack (in the beginning). Then put the straws in it. So even though I had made it pass the need for the nicotine, I was missing the hand to mouth. This helped with that.

Right now I have cut back to a pack a week. In a six month time I was back up to a pack a day. Most of the stress that sent me running back to a pack a day are gone. However, I did learn that smoking didn't really help with the stress. If anything it added more, because I was upset with myself.

This is a wonderful group. Glad to have you with us ~ Jeania

Good Sunday Morning, everyone. I am new to the team and on my first (and last, I hope) quit time. New Year's Eve, just prior to 12, I had a shot of vodka and my last cig. The tracker on the bottom of my note shows how many days I've been quit and sometimes that is the only thing that stops me from getting into my car and drive to the store to buy a pack. The big problem I'm having right now is I'm eating instead of smoking. I've gained over 5 pounds during this time and really need to get it under control. I try to do something else when I get the urge, like go outside or go clean something but this Winter isn't helping at all.

Well, that me in a nutshell. Just wanted to say Hello.

Hey Jeania, emoticon on a pack a week. the slower you go, usually makes a quit permanent. Car is fine and so am I. Waiting now for the Police report and contact from the other Insurance Company. Hubby, still not saying a word today.

Suzie..... did you get that rain yet? Back this way, we did have some rain heavy at times and blustering wind. Our road looks like an obstacle coarse. Tomorrow evening we are expecting a Winter mix. Hope it does not appear. to think it was 65 this time last night and 35 tonight.

Have a peaceful night and a better day tomorrow.

Michele sorry about your car. Yesterday was strange weather here in Iowa. The week has not been a good week to me. I have eaten (healthy food) my way through it and still am smoking 2 on the way to work and 1 on the way home. But the bright side is over eating healthy food and my pack a day is down to a pack a week.

Sue I hope your MRI went well and I am Jeania. No worries about not remembering names I am the same way. Besides if you would hear my name pronounced it sounds like Gina, so I have a hard name to remember because of the spelling. Bless my mother for wanting unique.

Cars drivable, and minor dent, more paint lost then anything. So far I'm fine and surprisingly DH took it well, at least for today. Tornado warning to take cover in Indiana around lawrenceburg and Napoleon towards I-70. Said it should be through this area around mid-night.

I'm sorry to hear that the Polar Vortex is back! i have been seeing it on the news and it's devastating!
Are you saying someone backed out and hit your car? I guess you must be okay! But how much damage did it do?
Be safe and keep warm, Michele!

emoticon The Polar Vortex is on its way back. emoticon I have not missed that visitor.

Temp outside right is 64! Gusty winds up to 70 due in from 5 to 11 pm tonight. Don't you just hate it when you are stopped in the car with no where to go and someone backs out and rear ends you. Guess that's what you call a "No Stress Environment!" You all, have a great day!

Welcome back, JMC! It's Debbie, isn't it? I have trouble remembering everyone's name unless of course, it's their screen name:)
I have to have the MRI this morning. There was a big mix up with my insurance and I couldn't get my medicine or the MRI but I finally got it fixed and I'm good to go!

Hello everyone, sorry I haven't checked in. Had a family emergency last week and only had my phone to spark with. Typing on my phone is not easy. I am back home and the other grandmother is in Iowa to stay until she isn't needed. My grandson can not go to daycare or preschool for the next two weeks. He has elevated white counts and they can not find a reason for it. The good thing is he finally has some energy back and has started eating. His parents have used all PTO and such, so now if they stay home it is without pay. So grateful that his other grandmother doesn't work and is willing to come stay. I used all of my family illness, but I do have vacation left if I need to use it.

My goodness I guess I don't realize all that I do in a days time at work. Till I come back and have been gone a week. Only thing I didn't get caught up on is voice mails. I did have a slip in my quit, however it is only a little one. When my mother started in my response was "This is a pack I bought on Saturday and today is Thursday. There are five left, that means in six days I have smoked fifteen cigarettes. Mom I use to smoke a pack a day." Do I wish I hadn't bought that pack yes, lesson learned here is: I still need to work on coping skills, but I have come a long way.

Weather here is cold and snowy, story of the country I think. Glad to see everyone safe and sound. Will check back in later.

Hope everyone had a Happy Valentines Day. Since it is snowing outside we decided to stay home and stay Safe tonight. We set next weekend to celebrate out, as long as there is no snow once again on the weekend. I guess this weather an those Canadian Clippers are Canada's Valentines gift to the lower 48!

No grocery store today, cleaned car off yesterday and to much snow over night. Frequent snow shower since down and predicted for all day. This will give me more meal planning time.

Car deiced and running, driveway deiced, I'm ready for the next round (two many to count anymore). Running out of Hot Chocolate K-cups, so got to get to grocery sometime in the next two days. Other than that bored, tired of doing nothing, tired of this "Cabin Fever Depression" and got to stop this boredom eating. These last 5 weeks have got to go! This weather is getting old!

Safe travels, stay warm, sleep tight!

Would love to get out of this house and run some errands. However, still trying to figure how to cross that 1 inch of ice with snow underneath it. You would need a jackhammer to even begin to start breaking it up. Don't think I can Handle one or two more days before I would head outside and scream for at least 15 minutes.

How is the quitting come along. It's been a few days since posting has been done. Pop in and let us know just how you are doing.

Have a better day on the morrow.

There is a total of 1 inch of snow mixed with ice outside, and more on the way through the night.
Sure would be nice to walk at length outside. However I would be needing Snowshoes. Schools closed again for tomorrow. This has been "SOME WINTER" and looks like for a few more weeks.

Have a better day tomorrow.

At present we have a dusting of snow, temps are bouncing between 31 and 34. Hope it doesn't drop below 32 and stay there. Would like to do some running tomorrow.

Welcome Losingitdebbie!!!!! Ready for some football, chili is in the crockpot, little sizzlers warming up, cheese for chips on warm this house is ready. Of course the men do not know all meat consumed today is turkey and the cheese dip is made with low fat cheeses.

Today my gym that normal is not open on Sundays, started a trial period of being open noon to four. So I have been to the gym, walked on the treadmill for 45 minutes and went to the pool for another 45 minutes. Great way to start the week.

Everyone enjoy the day and may your team win.

Morning, believe we have a new member, LOSINGITDEBBIE. emoticon SparkPage either nor created yet or marked Private.

We had intermittent rain through the night. This morning all the snow is gone off the driveway and grass but is high and heavy along the sides of the road. Temp at present -34 degrees with no wind for a change. Heavy rain to snow mix due in here over night. Tuesday thru Wednesday expecting accumulating snow of 3-5 inches, meaning need that run to the grocery before Tuesday evening.

Today is emoticon , the only time I go with the family wager! To strong teams going after each other an only one will win! Snacks ready, drinks icing up Potatoes cut for fries and BBQ in slow cooker. Have a great day, see ya later. emoticon

Good job! It doesn't feel good at the time, when you are feeling deprived, but it does feel great later!
I slept good night before last and had a good day at work because of it:)
Then I woke up at 1:30 in the morning last night, stayed up all morning, then slept all day again. Now I'll probably be up all night. I hope not!

Great job Jayne, this isn't my first quit and I remember the feeling of being able to breath again. Yesterday was rough, but I made it through the day. It was rough because I stuck to eating right on donut day at work, so I kinda felt deprived. But this morning I was over that and glad I made the choices I did.

Today I have shoveled 6 inches of snow and enjoyed doing it. emoticon is trying to peek out of the emoticon

Another winter storm set to roll through this afternoon. Will stop on my way home from the gym and get the things I need to make it through the weekend if we get everything they say we should. Not that the house doesn't have enough to make it through, I just want all my favorite healthy foods in the house.

Day 21 drive to work was a little tough, but I stopped and got coffee as a treat for making it 21 days. Hope everyone is doing well emoticon emoticon

Hey all! Just wanted to check in and let you all know that my quit is going GREAT!!!! emoticon

I am going to beat this! I have my mind set and I am going to it!

I did have a bit of a rough morning which had me waiting outside Walmart for the doors to open so that I could get a box of patches- but once I did and I got it stuck on, shortly afterwards I could breath easy again!

I hope you all have a great day! emoticon emoticon

Hope you bought a umbrella or a boat! You just might need it. We supposedly have rain coming Friday and Saturday. Maybe we can finally get rid of the snow. It was a heat wave today, reached 22 degrees. Tomorrow we're above 32 emoticon .

Have a good night and a better Day tomorrow.

A big hello to everyone from cold and blustery Nova Scotia, Canada!

emoticon

Just thought I would check in and say hey! Everyone who is talking about the cold- I fully understand! Today is a balmy (lol) -6, (which is 23 Fahrenheit) and we're expecting another 15cm (about 6.5") of snow tonight.

I've started doing some brisk walking this past week and for the first time that I can remember I can even jog! emoticon And the cold air that is coming off the Atlantic ocean isn't even burning my lungs! Which is really exciting!!

Tonight I am going to a BODYSHRED class- emoticon which should be pretty intense- but I am really excited! Then Tomorrow I have a Yoga emoticon class which as always will be awesome!

I hope everyone is having as great of a day as I am!!

-4 doubt if it makes 20 degrees F for today. With this cold weather I surely do not miss smoking this year. emoticon Breathing when outside is so much easier on the Lungs an the Heart. Those questioning a quit...need to try it. emoticon All you need to do is Try!

Layered up for an errand run outside. Think I'll give the grocery store a walk to get some steps in today, as well as some stretching and lifting. emoticon Will stop at Starbucks for a hot one while shopping. emoticon

Have a good day and stay Warm!

It is -5 right now, the good thing is the wind has quit. My car is started and warming up before I head to work. Even though it has been awhile since I smoked, yesterday is the first day I could take a breath and not feel like my chest was coming with it. So I considered yesterday the first true test. Pleased to report I didn't want to smoke. Now I know from the past it isn't the first weeks that get me it is somewhere around week 10 or 11. So I have a few to g emoticon o and then I have to get past month # 7. That is the goal to make it past the start of a new school year, then I will talk about the year mark.

I have checked the calendar and week 10 is spring break for my grandkids in Des Moines. So we are planning a weekend. My daughters youngest has asthma and I have always been careful around him. So the timing is good for week 10, little one is a great reason to make it past that point. I don't have a plan for the start of the school year, that will be next to work on.

The clock tells me it is time to head to work. Everyone stay safe.
