Try drinking a glass of water (8oz or so) with the juice from half of a lemon freshly squeezed. It helps your body get a jump kick in the morning. Also, I like to either have a grapefruit or apple and peanut butter. Just give the water a try for a week and see if that helps any. Good Luck!

I typically don't eat anything first thing in the morning - just a coffee or tea to start. After I've gone for my walk, I might have a fresh juice (from the market - carrot/orange with whole chunks of melon and peach, or something like that). Otherwise, it's protein and fat all the way. I eat a Primal diet, so typically some kind of meat and some kind of eggs make the perfect breakfast. If I don't feel like cooking, maybe yogurt with a bit of fruit and nuts.

I have to have some coffee in the morning, but I went from drinking like 5 to maybe two a morning. I don't add much either. Maybe some creamer or a splash of milk. As far as food goes I am never really hungry in the AM when I wake up but I do like some toast with jam. YUM!

Oatmeal with fresh fruit and a touch of honey. Whole wheat toast with fruit spread (or peanut butter and bananas).
I don't do caffeine much at all anymore. I find that a dose of carbs in the AM gives me a little jump-start, though, with their quick energy. Fill out your breakfast with protein and fiber so you don't crash in an hour!

I find that layering fruit, yogurt, branflakes and seeds (all nice and cold of course) in a glass does the job for me. I use about 3x1/4 cups of yogurt, 2x1/4 cups of berries, 3x1tbsp bran flakes (crushed) and small seeds or nuts, and 2xtsp honey.
The order is; honey, flakes and nuts, yogurt, fruit, yogurt, flakes and nuts, fruit, yogurt, flakes and nuts, honey.
That and a cup of "get out of bed" juice (make a jug with 3 cups of orange, 1 cup of pomegranate and 1 cup of grapefruit juice).
Just because you have been through the rain of life doesn't mean I have to walk around in wet clothes forever; there is a warm towel, a big hug, and a mug of low fat cocoa waiting for you somewhere!

Most of the time I just have a cup of Irish Breakfast Tea with two Splenda. It gives me the kick I need and keeps me warm till I can work up to eating something.

I admit it, it's just coffee for me or black tea like Earl Grey on the weekends. No problems here that might interfere with calorie intake since I've always loved my coffee black with no extra additions. It's something different for cappuchino, I own some with chocolate flavour - but that's not for getting up in the morning but as a chocolate-treat once or twice a week :)
You can turn all the hard work I've done against me. But I'll still give my best - and guess what, my best is better than yours.

What I'm trying to do with my coffee is make non-fat creations that still have a "kick." So far, I'm doing well with a splash of nonfat milk in my coffee each morning, with 1-2 cups daily. If I need that extra caffeine boost in the afternoon, I go for green tea.

I find having a nice cold apple in the morning wakes me up. I try to drink coffee rarely since it's not the same with out 2 creams and 2 sugars (once a week now tops). The coldness, sweetness, and crunch of the apple help bring my brain online (I deal with sleep issues on a regular basis so I know about needing a bit of a kick in the moring.) Also because of the fiber and natural sugars you don't crash from the apple like you do from caffeine :)

Thanks everyone. I am going to watch my diet i think that part of my crash was mental burn out from starting school and also from hormones LOL and my sleep cycle is totally out of whack the last few days so i need to work on that now too. Wishing you all a blessed full moon tonight and wonderful Ostara tomorrow.

I'm with CelticWitch--though I'm a 2-cups a day gal. One in the morning after meditating, one at lunch at work (where I keep a hot pot, filters and cone), or the afternoon on weekends. I brew a single cup of mixed flavored coffee and espresso, to which I add honey and half-and-half. I do not cut back here; it is one of my rituals, and I savor it.

I make myself a cold smoothie every morning with vanilla almond milk, frozen raspberries & strawberries, a handful of whatever fresh fruit I happen to have on hand, and protein powder. It really gives me a boost that lasts until lunch; I can't make it through my mornings without it anymore.

I really cannot help with this one. I rarely eat when I wake up (it takes a good 3 hours till eating something) and I drink coffee by the gallon...

Sadly im not a coffee person though sometimes i wish i was just for the boost, im a tea person but was trying to cut down a little on caffeine. I eat a good breakfast though maybe i need to add more protein to it. I usually eat oat meal or steel cut oats with cinnamon, flax, raisins, a tiny bit of sunflower seeds and skim milk. I was also debating about trying ginseng for added energy. Has anyone taken ginseng? Did it help?

The smell of good coffee gets me going. Knowing that a little is fine, a lot not so good. I bought a smaller coffee pot & only buy really good coffee for my one cup a day. I have found that if I eat a well balance breakfast I have energy.

I don't think any food or drink has ever really given me the boost. You may just be a night owl like I am. The body wants to stay up late and reaaaallly resists waking up in the morning!

I usually start my day with a protein shake or bar and my (single daily allotted ) cup of black tea. Right now I'm big on the Luna Protein bars and Think Thin (Luna has better flavor, TT has more protein).

Hello everyone, i am looking for suggestions for any foods or supplements that help wake a person up in the morning and clear your mind. I am trying to cut back on caffeine i only drink one cup of black tea a day. Lately ive been so groggy in the morning for hours even with eating clean and 6 meals a day. Its gotten so bad that im thinking of going back to energy drinks for the boost they gave and i really would prefer to stay away from them. I am open to suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help.
