Yes! And here I thought I was just crazy! I have always refereed to it as my "inner soundtrack" lol
And as others have mentioned, there tends to be some underlying message being conveyed when I DJ starts spinning tracks, and normally I can figure it out pretty quickly. Unfortunately though, if I try to make a request he turns into the DJ from the "The Goods" and I end up with some song I REALLY can't stand stuck in my head. lol

I will sometimes have a tune running through my head and is usually one I have not heard in ages. Today it is Somewhere (Theres a Place for us)

I also have Loving Angels song by Robbie Williams so the two are morphing.

LOL I love tequilla and that image!

I often play songs in my head. Yesterday it was "Let me be myself" by 3 Doors Down. Weird thing was, 5 minutes later the girl turned on the jukebox and that was the first song she played. :D

Oh, and a random and possibly unrelated thought... some people have a musical learning style where music helps their brain retain knowledge. So if a specific song is on while a task or fact is being learned singing or hearing the song while trying to recall it can help the brain find the right information. My high school psychology teacher explained it to me because she thought it might help me. I guess that could be why I always have music floating 'round in my dome.

I say that I always have music playing somewhere, even if only in my head. Songs pop in at random at various points through out the day, sometimes with songs I've heard, sometimes made up lyrics to advertisement jingles and sometimes I really don't know what or where they came from. The idea that there may be messages in them for me is something I hadn't thought of, but now I'm really curious. I'm so glad I found this post because now I feel like I have something to new to learn. Maybe this was a little hint from the universe. Fantastic! emoticon

My songs are generally played while I'm at work. Like when I'm having a particularly bad day at work the chorus to "I hate my life" repeats over and over (the first line is "I hate my job".. emoticon ). Or when I work with one particular guy "Waitin' on Joe" starts playing (I bet you can't guess his name...lol).

For the last few days it's been "Follow you into the dark" by Death Cab for Cutie. I hope it's not about the kind of day I'm having because it's about dying. But it's a pleasant and soothing tune and makes me a bit introspective (which is a good thing:-) What drives me nuts is when it's something silly like the theme to Giligan's Island or Brady Bunch. Don't laugh - it happens quite a bit. Way more disturbing than a song about death LOL!

Ya know, I find I like the old Kinks songs these days a lot more than I did when they were hits. And yeah, I like that one too. The Kinks were MUCH more than "Lola".

I like 'Sunny Afternoon', personally.

The tax man's taken all my dough,
And left me in my stately home,
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.
And I can't sail my yacht,
He's taken everything I've got,
All I've got's this sunny afternoon.

Current song is the early Kinks hit, "In the Summertime"... and I still don't know who Lady GaGa is, but then I've barely bothered to learn who Madonna is ... us old farts can be very selective in what we consider "music" LOL

Oh yes! There is (almost) always a song going on. Not that I necessarily know where it came from. Today I have a song that I saw once in youtube. I don not know the song or the girl who sings it, but it is there.

Never thought about a possible message brought buy the songs. I will pay attention to that...

I got a weird look in school when our teacher asked us what types of music there were and I volunteered 'rock, classical, and the music in your head'. My life has a soundtrack; I usually have a tune running through my brain.

Never considered that a message might be involved. Right now, I'm on a Lady GaGa jag. Hmm.

Oh yeah, I have that. I have noticed that there is no message, except that it usually plays songs I ignored and don't know the lyrics to. This morning it's running an instrumental, from "Buckaroo Banzai" -- the one with all the saxophones just before Penny is overheard crying and running her mascara... oh, what is the sound of mascara running...?

And I always refer to it as "the crazy DJ in my head".

Hugs,
Moss

I've always been one of those people who wake up with a random song stuck in their heads. I don't have my alarm set to radio or a CD, it just pops in for no apparent reason. At least that is what I thought.

Recently I started wondering if I was supposed to be getting a message about my day from these songs and started to explore the idea - I was somewhat successful and I could sometimes get the song to go away.

In the last week I started trying to find within the songs some message to do with loving myself and taking care of myself more - it seems its exactly what I was supposed to do, the song immediately stops when I get the message (sometimes it takes a while, other times its like a 4x4 to the head). So my little DJ and I have come to an understanding, and I actually look forward to each mornings new song.
