A houseblessing is a wonderful way to start off in a new home!
When I had mine, it included friends and family each was given a task. A circle was cast and then we preceded through the rooms in a systematic order. Each room was swept, then purified with the elements(incense, fire candle, water dish, and earth dish(salt))earth banishing pentacles were drawn over all windows, drains, and doors, and a small black and white candle were left in each to burn.

When we finished, we celebrated with a feast!

Best wishes in your new home!

Also a new wreath is always nice. Other things are a horseshoe over the door to bring luck also a broom over the door. I have made a couple of craft brooms I have made, one as a wreath on my front door and one over my back door.

I also have made clay disk with pentagrams on them and each is placed inside the house, over opening into the home, this keeps evil spirits out of your home. You place them after you have cleansed the house.

I like "sealing" the doors and windows with either saltwater, or by drawing around them with incense (something cleansing/protective, like frankincense, cedar, lavender, etc. if I have it handy.

also burying a new witch's jar on the property.

and I always have a lucky cat...either the one from my old house or a new one. but I just happen to like lucky cats. :D

I like wind chimes for harmony. Make a blessing for each room before you move anything in.

We've followed the tradition of a new broom, so you don't bring any of the old "dirt" from prior locations with you, both emotional and literal.

And the first thing into new homes is always a picnic basket of food - to symbolize that the new residents will always have enough. (Besides, moving is hard work, and refreshments are always welcome!) :)

I also generally take a bowl of salt water around to all the windows and doors and cast a small protection spell over them when cleaning is done.

Besides smudging before moving in, what are some other ideas to help cleanse, or make the home ready to move into?

Windchimes? Special crystals?

Ideas?
