Setting up for the last horse show of the year at our State Fair. I am scared about crashing my diet beyond repair, but am determined to succeed in not doing so (a little fender bender wouldn't be so bad... hmmm, roasted corn on the cob, turkey leg...!)
I hope the weather will hold out- it is now down to 60-62 during the day and dropping to mid 50's at night.
I'm not sure what, if anything, I will be doing on Friday. I had to move back in with my parents and theirs is very much a christian household. Needless to say, mommy-dearest doesn't tolerate pagan practices. If I celebrate it will be on my lonesome behind a closed bedroom door. Just the same the gods and goddesses with be with me I am sure.
Friday night, I'm going to my local Pagan Meetup (just a social dinner gathering). Saturday eve, I'm going to a Lammas ritual at a friend's coven -- they have open circle for 1/2 of their sabbats (and fewer of their esbats) and this is one of them. They always have very nice, thoughtful rituals.
I well also be celebrating alone. Maddie (my dog) and I will take a long walk down by the canal. When we get back I will retreat to my backyard where my altar is setup by my herb garden. Nothing elaborate.
Being at the ocean would be lovely! I adore the ocean! I don't get to it as often as I'd like, butI like being an easy drive from it. I spent summers in Provincetown (the tip of Cape Cod) every summer until I became a mom.
Camil, your household sounds a lot like mine. I live in a 9 window colonial built in the 1780's. It has been converted to a 2 family in the 50's. My parents bought it in '72 after it had been vacant for over a decade. It was set for demolition. My parents had to do all sorts of things to buy it. My parents live downstairs with their dog and cat and my husband and I live upstairs with my kids (20, 15, and 3). My mom is a witch, so we do celebrate the holidays together. Honestly, we'll be eating from the garden that night probably as a family (except DH who is a non-practicing Catholic and has to work late Friday). My niece is staying with us as well, so she'll be there.
Full agreement about animals being extraordinary! Not so sure about my parents dog, but their cat certainly is.
Reconnect with friends/family is always important, especially after a journey that has included such loss.
I'll be celebrating alone. I have an altar set up in a special room in my apartment. My husband doesn't practice, so he stays in another room and watches TV. However, my rabbit always seems to know when I call the corners. She thumps her back paws every time. It's really quite amazing. After the corners are called, she calms down and relaxes as if to say - "OK, everyone is here, let's begin". Animals are quite extraordinary.
"And those who danced were thought insane by those who refused to hear the music..."
"Argue not with a dragon, for thou art crunchy and go well with brie."
There is a very active Wiccan Church near me. I will be attending the Sabbat with them. They have a lovely circle in the Hp's back yard with herbs planted around the edges. there will be a potluck and drumming etc. I live in an extended family. My 2 sons 34 and 24 and their girlfriends and a 2 yr old step grand daughter and a 4 yr old grandson. I am out with my family and most every one elso too. I just don't talk about such things at work but every one else4 knows I am Pagan. We will have a Sabbat dinner at home. One of the girlfriends is pagan and everyone else is comfortable with my practices so I am truely Blessed.
I was toying with going to an open circle, but I'm throwing a surprise 40th anniversary party for my parents the next day, so I've decided to make myself just a little more crazy instead. I've been sort of planning it with my sister, but I've been doing all the work (in my sister's defense, she lives 6-1/2 hours away). This week is trying to confirm details, plan things out, figure out what I've forgotten, chase down people who haven't RSVP'd (pet peeve of mine). I'm thinking Friday night will be a private, quick ceremony in the back yard in the oregeno and basil plants. Thinking there will be drinking involved too.
I hope everyone else has a more meaningful evening planned.
