LOL Terri, too funny, but I think the pedicurist can do the seahawks pic for me on the big toe only hahahah - actually the colours are very similar to the Vancouver Cancucks LOL

Heading to bed, I am tired and I did not want to get up this morning, so maybe I will sleep that good tonight too lol

Good idea, Lindie. That way, if you forget who you're rooting for, you can take off your shoes and check out your toe color! Bahahahaa!

Dianne, it sounds like it's going to take you a couple of days to get settled in. Fresh snow should make for great skiing!

This computer went to a black screen again today, so I did something scary--I pushed F11. That took me to System Recovery, which led me to a "Recovery Manager" that suggested that I do a system backup before recovering...so that's what I did ALL day! It took hours, but I finally got the backup done and burned it onto 12 DVD-R discs. Then it took me back and asked if I wanted to "Recover" or "Restore" the computer, and since restoring it was simpler, that's what I chose. I can still do the recovery if it acts up again. I can't afford another $168 right now, so I hope this works.

Steve pruned a little more at the neighbor's and then sprayed the trees (ours and hers) with an organic dormant spray that is supposed to take care of mites & other bugs, and fungus that causes leaf curl in peaches. I hope it works.

I did a sink full of dishes, 3 loads of laundry and some ironing this morning before I started fooling with the computer, but that's about all I got done.

Anne, I'm glad you had time to pop in for a few minutes. Enjoy those kids!

Time for me to head toward bed. See you tomorrow.

Dianne, sure hope you dont' mind the snow, you kinda need it to ski but I hope its not too much and the skiing is cancelled but you can still have a nice vacation and find other things to do, good thing you brought books !!

Anne, enjoy your time with your family - the fleas are coming under control some what - Gene is spot spraying here and there, so we will see, so far nothing but carcasses when i find comb Kartmen, but its not day 7 yet.

Cathy, what did you do today? How did the game go, were you glad to be able to go out again even if it was just to work? I dislike not being able to go out when I am inbound !

Terri, what were you up to today? My nephew has to go to school as part of his "sentence" from some trouble he got into - no school, means jail time. He signed up today for 2 classes - and he needed 140.00 - 40 for the classes at 20.00 each and 100.00 for the books, but he gets 80.00 back - what a wracket, school up to grade 12 should be free --- I gave him the 140.00 he needed. I am hoping he can turn things around and turn on that lazy mind and body ...we will see ...

I am going for a pedicure tomorrow, I am gonna get the Seahawks colours so I best go see what they are LOL

Snow, snow and snow. It is snowing in Colorado Springs--they don't usually get a lot of snow here. DD1 and her hubby fly in tonight to Denver. We'll get them tomorrow.

We did hit the grocery store today--got food for the week--and maybe longer. Not sure what is happening next week food-wise. But--there are stores in Breck so we'll be fine.

Oh yeah! Cathy, I am really glad that Michael's pipes didn't cause an issue! We are worried about Tom & Ashley's...they checked in with us after they were on their way here, so we never had a chance to make some "how to put your house on vacation mode" before they left. I am praying they do not go home to burst pipes...since the weather is being so extreme!

Whew! Just read through all the posts I've not been able to read!

Dianne, have fun on your CO trip. I'm sure you will work off those annoying pounds on the slopes! We usually do joint packing, too. Dh manages to get things much more compact than I do, so we can fit more in the bag(s). I do the unpacking when we get home, though, lol!

Terri, glad you were able to find the yarn you needed. My kids all tend to get car sick on long trips, unless they happen to be the driver. Hopefully Jazzy didn't make too much of a mess in the car. Bleeechhh! Vomit smells tend to hang...sometimes it's just knowing that someone was sick in there and you think you still smell it, but it isn't really there. Glad Steve checked with your neighbor this time! Trees do need some TLC, too! They will probably bear more and better fruit, maybe not this season, but next...unless he over-pruned, lol!

Cathy, hopefully the snow/bad weather days are over! Unless, of course, you want to go to school nights, weekends, vaca weeks and/or through the summer, lol! Not having kids in the school system, I do not know how many days they have had off for bad weather, but I do not think there have been too many, yet. Our calendar used to have school closing ear-marked with an additional 5 days for snow so that if they didn't use all the 5 days they got out early. Some where along the way, it switched to the day it would close and then add on the snow days...I found that annoying. I do not know how the calendar is now.

Betsy, my kids daycare provider used to do a lot of reading and hands on projects...she was very creative. Sounds like you are just like her. I know I would want my kids at your daycare! Did you need to "un-spoil" Ava?

Lindie, I did not watch the State of the Union, but my dh did. I could hear it in the other room, so I turned my TV up a lot louder than usual. I find the President's clipped oratory most annoying, so I prefer to read what he has had to say. I agree with Cathy...the President (like most politicians) is not part of the real life scene...you know, the one where a person actually works for their income and struggles to make ends meet...so I doubt he (like most politicians) has a real clue...what life was like is a distant memory. On a more important topic...it sounds like you need to grab the bull by the horn and do the things that will eradicate the fleas if Gene won't. I HATE BUGS (except butterflies)! Bet you do, too!

Hi to everyone else! Sorry if I missed anything. Hope all are doing okay!

The visit is going very well. I do not when I will take time off to have a full day with the kids...unfortunately the day I would like to do that is the day my boss at the gas station can not cover for me. Bummer! The kids understand, though. They are just having fun being away from home and being with Mom and Dad. We played Cribbage and Rummy last night. Dad and Tom watched some TV together, too!

Well, I'm late for work...again! Not really...just prefer to be in around 7 rather than 7:30. Will post again when free!

Terri, they thawed on their own with the taps being left open---so it must not have been a big freeze in them---which is good news for them. And it wasn't too bad when Taylar got here ---the temps went up pretty quick when the sun came up. Glad you had a nice time and got in a walk while in town. My mom said the food was good on the train.
Anne, glad the pups are enjoying each other---will you be taking some time off when the others get there or will you need to work?
I go back to work today---but 2 hours later than normal---have one game to work tonight so will be home at a decent hour.
Hope everyone has a good day! For those just reading, we miss your posts!

Hi all!
Just popping on again. Still haven't had time to read through all the goings on. Working, as usual, and having a good time with Tom and Ashley. The pups are having fun, too! If all goes well...and I get some alone time...I'll catch up tomorrow!
Have a good night!

"Home again, home again, jiggety jog" Funny how those old nursery rhymes stick in your head and just pop out at odd times~ Betsy, I'm so impressed by all the reading you do! What a great caregiver you are!

The girls and I had a nice, uneventful day in town. I walked down to Joann's while the first one was in the chair to try to find matching yarn for a pair of socks I'm knitting for DS2. For some reason, the yarn he bought me didn't make a full sock--it ran out 2" short of the toe! I didn't find any at Joann's but got some steps in anyway. After the dentist, we went to Michael's and found what I need so I'm good to go for now.

I've got two windows open, so I'll try to comment on some things I've been missing lately.

Dianne, I've seen that comedienne's routine about the rafting trip--and the one about bungee jumping! She is such a hoot! I have never travelled first class, but it sounds great! One of these days, we'll have to do that--just to say we did. We will be getting a sleeping roomette on one leg of our train trip, so that sort of counts as first class. All our meals and beverages will be included on that part. I will probably enjoy some wine, but not too much as it's hard enough to walk on a moving train without being extra relaxed.

Cathy, any medical equipment should be carried on, if possible, to avoid damage; however, if it was something large, it could be marked for the baggage handlers to know not to throw it. Also, such equipment does NOT count as carry-on luggage, so you can still have two other pieces. We will carry it with us. In fact, I'm pretty sure that most of our luggage can be carried on. We didn't have to buy anything because Mom has 4 pieces that we can borrow. We won't use all of them, but it was nice not to have to spend the money.

I'm sure Anne is having a great time with her kids and granddogs right now! I think her house is usually pretty quiet with just the two of them there, but it won't be quiet now! Then, when the rest of the kids and grands get there later, it should be really fun! I hope they all enjoy each other while they can.

It was nice to see Michelle in the huddle today. I think we're due for a good catch up message, Michelle! How is life after school? We never heard any more about the handsome neighbor, you know....so....?

Cathy, what happened with Michael's pipes? I hope he didn't have any breakage. It was great that you were able to take Taylar to school--even if it did get you outside in the cold for a bit. How did Howard fare?

I wish our newbies would jump in here and join the conversation. Stop by and say hello if you're reading and let us know about your progress and/or challenges! Faith, how is DH doing?

I am in Houston right now. We flew frirst class from Newark--on a BIG plane. The first class seats had so much room I couldn't touch the seat in front of me without stretching! The lunch was very nice--salad with a chicken breast portion and french onion soup. And free drinks so 2 glasses of wine--I AM on vacation!

Now we sit in the United Club--again free drinks and free wi-fi. I watched the movie Miracle on the way--it was great. Off to find some cheese and crackers!

Dianne, broom ball sounds fun and great exercise----are you excited about leaving?
Terri, hope your day goes well at the dentist.
Well, it was not too bad driving Taylar to college---the worst road is mine that I drove on---and the turn off from a main road to a secondary road was slippery---not one where you can just go if you have a break in traffic--have to go back and pick her up at 3:15 but at least I am home and can do this for her.

Dianne, that is funny---why would you live in an area that has a lot of snow and not learn to drive in it? Sure, it would not be fun but you would have to do it in that area.
Taylar just called---there are no parking spaces in the garage at college---so she is coming by here and I will drive her and pick her up today. Later!

I am taking real books for the reasons cited--and sometimes I have the real book but not the Kindle version! I did get an Ipad so I hope I can stay in touch okay while I am gone. Otherwise, hubby will have to share his laptop.

I let hubby pack after I have gathered all my stuff cause he is FUSSY about HOW things are packed. Since he doesn't like how I do it, HE can do it! But I do have everything piled on the bed.

Found out that SIL expects hubby to drive down on Friday, bringing a friend of hers (and our DD1 needs to go to airport) and then drive back up on Saturday. Trouble is--I don't want to spend the extra day in the car. So--I will likely stay in the condo alone, pack stuff up and then figure out how to ski and also get stuff to the NEW condo on Saturday. We have time to figure it out but that is what I'm thinking. Even if I just sit somewhere and read, it will be better than spending the time in the car. Not real pleased with the whole idea but SIL doesn't like to drive in snow or at night or if there is snow on the ground or in the ditch or.....so why does she live in CO?? (Sorry--being snippy.)

I used to get 20-30 books for my girls. All the library books "lived" next to the TV and we read a lot. There were "contests" at school--I recorded book names and the number of pages and DD1 was 1st or 2nd every year. One year she won a ride in a Piper Cub plane--I think we were the only family that let the child go! She loved it--and hubby went up in a biplane at the same place! So reading was ALWAYS so important and the girls learned to read quickly. Now--they are on-line but at least read there--"fan-fiction".

DD3 had a broom ball game last night--I hope her team will at least score a goal once--they are not very good, never have been but she tries!!

Betsy, hope you don't have to de-spoil Ava too much---LOL---oh, and the other part of your question---Might have to go back Aug.20---a few days earlier than normal---and we have 3 snow days built into our schedule but right now we are at 5 and the winter is not over yet. We might lose a day or 2 off Easter break or professional days---but then there are so many complaints when that happens---right now it just means we go another week in June---and I am okay with that---the only issue is that some of our schools do not have AC and if it turns hot early, that is miserable for those kids and staff.'
Posted the new challenge.
OH, they said we got to negative 4 last night----brrrrrrrrrrr!

Lindie, we do go through books quickly around here but we LOVE them emoticon emoticon They get stories before nap every day and we read whenever the mood strikes us OR them, as long as it isn't to stall from doing something else. The children usually wind up with facorites and we can read them ten times a day!( or more)

Terri, I envy your knitting talent. I used to crochet but never learned how to finish the edges properly so I was always afraid the blankets would fall apart. the occupational therapy people taught me how to crochet when I was on bedrest in the hospital before DD2 was born.

Lindie, what do you prepare for breakfast ahead of time? We usually have cereal, bagels, waffles, fruit and yogurt or something that is easy to grab right out of the cupboard or fridge. The only exception is Sunday when we have brunch and then it is a hot breakfast and usually has bacon or sausage included to make DH happy.

Cathy, enjoy your day off.

Dianne, my Dh packs his own suitcase but I get almost everything ready for him first. He is good at doing his own laundry so that helps. he used to do laundry for other family members as well but there were too many accidents like a pen in the dryer with the whites or drying something that should be laid flat so I asked him to stop. He is allowed to wear jeans to school on Friday so he washes his Levis on Thursday nights like clockwork. He still wears a dress shirt and tie on Fridays to maintain a professional look.

Ava has returned from her grandma's so it will be interesting to see if any "de-spoiling" is needed.

Time for breakfast, have a great day.

Betsy, yes, we did go 2 whole weeks after Christmas---but that seems so long ago. And it is really not nice of you to share your temps with me emoticon The temps outside are negative 1 degree---that is without wind chill---unreal here---I have never known it to drop this low here. Michael called me and his pipes have frozen---he was not sure of what to do but since they are not going to be home today, I told him to leave a tap open just in case it thaws and to check the pipes when he gets home to make sure none are busted----we are supposed to warm up starting tomorrow so hoping it will thaw out for him without having to pay a plumber. Hope the kids enjoy the new books---are they tired of the ones you have at home?
Lindie, how come the cpap machine has to go with you on the airplane---fragile? Yes, nice to buy breakfast out now and then but it does get expensive.
Terri, at least he does the other stuff---LOL---most men are not good packers but I think Dianne's dh travels so much that he had to learn because one does have to repack a suitcase if doing business travels. Glad that neighbor realizes the importance of trimming those apple trees. You might want to save some of the trimmings esp. if you smoke any meats, I think apple wood is a good one for that---some might be good to use as kindling for your stove, too.
Okay, so I am home again and very glad ---that is way tooooo cold for anyone to be out in it---sure hope my dh has plenty on today --probably warmer down where he is going. I was thinking of braving it and going out today---but not til it warms up or at all. Definitely need to get off my behind today and do some exercises here at home. I did forget to update the challenge yesterday---so heading there now to put up the new ones. Stay warm!

I'm going to try to type fast because the computer acts like it's dying. It's gone to black screen twice and said something about a display driver. I'm glad I've got my laptop back but am not on it right now.

We kept Timmy and Jasmine overnight last night while their parents went to a small-group Bible study on the coast. The teens attended their own study, so Tim & Jazz stayed here so they could get to bed. I got them off to school on time (Jen picked them up on her way) and then dSIL called less than an hour later to say that Jazzy had vomited in the car on the way to school and he was on his way to pick her up--and could we keep her until he finished work. She was pretty much fine all day, so I don't know what that was all about. She said she was car sick, but who knows.

It drizzled rain off and on all day but Steve went out and did some more pruning on our neighbor's apple trees. Yes, he DID clear it with her first! He said those poor trees hadn't been pruned in about 15 years and were quite tangled. I hope he didn't kill them!

Tomorrow, we're taking Jenny's two teens to the dentist. At least, I am--Steve says if it's sunny, he'll stay here and do some more pruning. I'll take my knitting so should be able to get quite a bit done while waiting for the girls.

Dianne, I think you're blessed to have a dh that can pack well. I adore my prince, but would NEVER trust him to pack us for any kind of trip! Maybe he could pack the book bag with our Bibles for church...naw, not even that. He'd forget my notebook and pen or something. He can run a vacuum cleaner, but no packing! I make the lists, do the laundry, lay out the clothes, pack the toiletries, tickets, itineraries, etc. leave lists for the dog-sitter....he does pack the electronics and my CPAP--and he carries everything down to the car.

Better wrap this up before something goes haywire. I'm probably pressing my luck as it is. Hello to all I haven't mentioned--see you tomorrow sometime.

WOW Betsy that is a lot of books, but I bet you go through them fast - do you have a read time for them, like in the various libraries ?? Good of you to do that for sure !

Dainne taking a couple of paper books is a good idea especially for when things need recharging or can't be used in certain areas.

Remember for every gram of sugar you eat, you also retain 4 grams of water - so if you have had a lot of sugar lately that is where the water is coming from ... sugar tends to do that ... its not just salt after all !!!

Cathy, home again??? NOT FAIR - but I hope your return to school early in the fall does not ruin your summer.

Anne, I am sure you are enjoying your family, talk to you when time permits.

Terri, how did your day go today?/

Oh I am so tired and I have to go make my breakfast for morning ... I was lazy today and bought out .. but can't do that every day !

Hello to anyone missed, and be sure to have a good evening !

Cathy, have you seen your school walls for a full week since Christmas break? How many days are built in to your schedule so they don't have to be made up? How much earlier are you starting next year? We are under a snow advisory but it is only for up to four inches so there will be no cancellation. I bet Dianne is taking the real books for the times when electronics are not allowed and to avid eye strain.

DD2 and I went to the library after work and checked out 40 books, five for us and 35 for the kids!

Dianne, have a safe trip. I am sure you are a great motivational leader for your challenge team. Did you plan this trip so you could avoid al of the Super Bowl chaos in NJ?

Hi everyone, have a good night!

If you are taking the Kindle, why the real books?
I have off tomorrow, too---at least they are letting us know ahead of time---probably do not have the parking lots and bus lots cleared yet---dh did move my car up in the driveway behind his so if I want to go out, I can---probably will not---LOL

Cathy--I hope it is water weight but not sure. I will need to drink lots of water in CO to stay hydrated but I hope it will all disappear when we get back here!

Hubby does our taxes--it will be a big job--he also does DD2 and DD3's taxes. I will do the deductions when we get home--and hopefully I'll be able to do a rough FAFSA by the end of Feb and correct it in April. Congrats for being done!

I have all my stuff gathered--and hubby is packing since he is so fussy about how it is done! I still need to pack my carry-on--the Ipad, the Kindle, a real book or two, my water bottle and my Spark stuff. I am the motivational leader on my challenge team and need to do some work while on vacation! That will be fine!

Dianne, you will work it out on the ski slopes---maybe a bit of water retention today?
Okay, I am a born procrastinator---but I took the bull by the horns today since I was home and did my taxes---I am usually doing them at the end of March/beginning of April---but figures since we got money back last year, we should this year---and we did---yippee! So there are filed and I am done with that headache. Does anyone else just hate doing them? I know Betsy does because of having a home business--that is a real nightmare! Michael plans on taking his somewhere because of all the house stuff--plus he had multiple W2 forms---he always owes the state, too. Hoping with him being married that will be a lot less of a problem for him this year.

First off--Terri--I had seen that before but watched it again! She also does one about taking a river rafting trip--that is also hilarious!

Cathy--we had school--had 1-2 inches of snow and it was in the teens but i even got to take them outside! I taught geology/fossils at the park today--had fun and great helpful parents. One dad is going to the Super Bowl so was trying out his borrowed boots to make sure he'd be warm enough.

I have all my stuff gathered. Hubby started getting his and we'll pack tonight. So yes--I did get my stuff together! Still need to pack the electronics in the carry on bag.

Pizza for supper--but I am going to concentrate on salad. The jeans are getting tight-- emoticon so need to make some changes. Skiing SHOULD help,

Hope Anne enjoys the visit and Betsy the birthday!!

Well, maybe the middle of June---at the moment---but winter is not done with us yet---and we are scheduled back a lot earlier for next school year---so summer will be a bit shorter---but that is tentative at the moment. Glad the weather is a bit better for you---but that still sounds way tooo cold to me! Hope it is warmer in the basement than the rest of your house!
Hmmm, I think dh is finally up---planning on pancakes if he wants them.

Cathy, another day off!?!?!?! Will you be in school all summer? Our wind chill is "only" minus 26 with the "regular" temp. being minus seven so we are back to school/work. the advisory is supposed to end today but we'll see. I am so glad February is coming and the sun will be getting a tad more helpful to warm things up, at least to zero! Yes, reading was great but I will have to make up for lost chore time this weekend.

Anne, it is a good thing your kids/grandkids beat that winter storm, enjoy their visit.

My birthday boy will be arriving soon so I need to go eat breakfast and turn the basement heat on.

Have a great day!

Lindie, I never listen to any of them---we get enough rehashing of it the next day on the news. Hmmmm, does he know any real, struggling American---one not on handouts but barely keeping their heads above water? He should meet my oldest son!
Betsy, good for you---I did a lot of reading on my break last week!
Anne, glad they got up there before the snow---they did right in heading up when they did---travel in the south has been really bad.
Okay, I am home again---4+ inches of snow here---and he canceled school last night so I got to sleep in. Dh is home today, too---maybe I can get him to do something today. Probably do a lot of reading today myself.
Have a good one---stay safe and warm!

Actually Cathy, I was quite impressed and paid good attention when He talked about education and how kids need a first class education and are marked on their knowledge and not just a bubble on a page - I thought you might have liked it.

Lots of talk, I got bored eventually and went back to computer game, but he did use regular Americans as examples of how things are working and going. Obviously there will always be for and against people and groups, we even have that up here in Canada ... but we will see ....

Dianne, did you get to those tasks? I like doing Tabata in the pool--can do so many things in the water that I cannot do on land---and tabata really gets your heart rate up. I know, it is a bummer not being able to wear the FitBit in the pool---they say you can wear the spark tracker in there but I haven't figured where you would put it that it would stay put---I have heard a lot complain that it comes off too easily plus you cannot see the info til you are on the computer.
Terri, hmmm, I should get dh to wash dishes tomorrow, then---LOL---knowing you, you all will only use that card when you need to and pay it off when the bill comes in---and a great way to earn those points for another trip.
Lindie, glad you are watching it, because I am not! don't want to send my heart rate up!
We had the games tonight---won both by 50+points---not fun to watch---and came out to the snow just starting---have almost an inch on the ground right now---betting we do not have school tomorrow.

Thanks Terri, the flea situation is not going to go away anytime soon. I did get a spray from the vets but that means taking Kartmen out for a few hours, to where? IN winter would I take him???

LOL and Gene refuses to wash his clothes in the make shift drawer thingy he has and Kartmen was sleeping in there. Gene did find some flea eggs on the couch cover, and washed that and his blanket and then tried a bit of vaccuming but he just does not get it, we need to vaccum every day ... and he won't move things, so it will be some time before the fleas are gone, I am thinking.

Anne glad you got those books and what not all caught up, enjoy your family time ...

Cathy, so sorry to hear about that young student, heart conditions can happen at any time anywhere and any age...

Dianne, are you packed ??

Betsy, how many layers?? OH MY that is cold !! Hope you enjoyed your day off today. Funny bout the young boy preferring your daughter over you, well she is younger LOL

Terri, be careful with the cc - its so easy to make allowances and then next thing its a huge bill, but I am pretty sure you are not gonna let that happen !!

Quiet night for me but I will watch the state of the union address....

Yay, I caught up!

Lindie, that stinks about the fleas! It reminds me of when the head lice were going around the school and the office would do head checks and call parents to pick kids up if they found ANYTHING suspicious. I threatened to shave Jenny's head if she got them again! Now that she's teaching, she comes and has me check her head any time one of her students gets head lice. Good luck on eradicating the pests.

Anne, congratulations on making such great headway with all the paperwork, checkbooks and tax stuff! That's a huge task! I haven't even started to think taxes yet (except property taxes, which are due in April because I'll need to make sure there's enough money left after our trip to pay them) and my desk and kitchen counter (where the mail collects) is piled high right now. I need to seriously go through some piles and deal with things. I can probably toss most of it, but have to be sure it's not important first. I think our dogs are probably similar in temperament. Rosie is a 3-part mix: St. Bernard, German Shepherd and Lab (which seems to sneak into nearly any mixed-breed, somehow). Now you see why I call her Rosie, the horse-dog~ :)))

Dianne, have a great trip and be safe on the slopes! I hope you and DH can find some alone time too, even if you are sharing the condo. Enjoy!

Cathy, Howard's hands remind me of Steve's whenever he has to work on the vehicles. He used to do the dishes for me when his hands got all stained with the black grease and that would take care of it; however, now that we have a dishwasher, he has to be more intentional about it. Working men don't often have well-cared-for hands.

Betsy, I'm glad you're hibernating today and getting some well-earned rest. I hope the throat clears up soon. We did end up watching the Waltons and enjoyed it thoroughly! I was making biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast when DS2 called to say they were up and coming over to get the kids so I invited him to join us. That worked out perfectly, as all the gravy was eaten and there were only 3 biscuits left over when everyone left! We put the jar of apple butter (the boys' favorite) on the table with a spoon in it and let them serve themselves. DS & dDIL scolded Ben for piling the apple butter on his biscuit--"You've got enough there for 3 biscuits!" and I told him to leave him alone as I have about 20 qts of apple butter in the basement! Then, Blaine was serving himself sausage gravy and eating it with a spoon instead of on a biscuit, and they were going to get onto him for that. I told them I don't want any leftovers, so let him eat it! DS just rolled his eyes and said, "Your house, your rules I guess." LOL I don't interfere with discipline (in fact, I encourage it) but with things like that, I'll speak up. There's very little sugar in apple butter, so it's not like they were eating candy or junk--and Rosie would've gotten the gravy if the boys hadn't eaten it.

It was nice to see Michelle posting in the huddle today. I hope things are going well with her. She must be working the night shift if she was heading to bed this morning.

We signed up for an Amtrak MasterCard so we can get travel points by using it. I figured that since we're going to buy rail passes anyway, and have the $ to pay for them, I could use the card and earn a free trip out of it. We don't have ANY credit cards and never use them, so this is making me nervous; however, I plan to NEVER carry a balance and there's no annual fee for having the card, so it should be okay. We'll get a point for every dollar we transact with the card and double points for Amtrak purchases. My nephew will be getting married in WA next August and we'd love to take the train up again--so this vacation might actually pay for that ride. At least, that's my hope.

I still haven't change my car reservations. I have to check to see whether or not there's a cancellation fee with the third-party reservation. If there is, I'll keep it because I don't think I'm going to get a much cheaper rate. When we rented a car in Orlando 4 years ago, we paid $35 per day and I would imagine prices have gone up. Still, I'll check and will save whatever I can.

I was just catching up with the posts and read Betsy's comment about her husband being so good at doing the grocery shopping (with a list) and it reminded me of this comedienne. I thought we might all enjoy a chuckle at our husbands' expense. I hope the link works.

Betsy--Mom went in tot town to volunteer. And Dad was carrying wood over when I called. So--they are out and bout. Wow--UW-Madison only closed once time in the 3 years I was there--and I still had to go to McDonalds to work. Hope you can keep warm--I'm chilly here but will not turn the heat up.

Cathy--so sorry. Had similar happen in HS--shouldn't happen but it does. Hope all goes okay as it can.

I did water aerobics today. We did tabaha intervals--20 seconds as hard as you cold do--10 of rest--8 cycles. And we did it for 3 different songs. I was sweaty by the end--in the pool--and the water was too warm! Wish I'd had my pedometer--but isn't waterproof--I REALLY worked today. Now I am a lump--need to fix a shirt for DD1 to take to CO, pack, do a load of laundry--yeah, lots to do so I am sitting at the computer!

Anne, probably best if they head up ahead of the storm--hope they have a safe trip up.
Dianne, woohoo to finding the ski pass----that book and video do sound interesting---have to check that out to see if I can find either one---might ask one of the history teachers to see if they have it at local college library.
Betsy, that is ridiculous that it is that cold in your house---how do you stand it? Bad enough at school---and I do wear a couple of layers at home most times when it is this cold.
Got a free day from DRR---sad reason though---we had a female student ---a senior --who passed away suddenly---had a undiagnosed heart problem---she stayed home yesterday as she was not feeling well, ended up in the hospital in the afternoon and then died early afternoon..
Still no news on the basketball games!

Dianne, I do not wish anyone ill but I hope the flu cases keep your mom from volunteering today because it is brutally cold, even the UW system(yes, including Madtown) is closed until noon. As I am writing it has warmed up a bit and WITHOUT the wind chill it is minus 21! It is a four layer clothing day inside the house. I always love to read that you can handle the cold because you are from "WI stock," how true it is. Our high for the day in minus five ( again without the wind chill.) You are right that if this keep sup our students will be in class until the fourth of July. My sister said she has already heard talk of taking days off of spring break to prevent that from happening.

Our computer connection issues are continuing so AT&T is coming to the house today as they couldn't fix it over the phone. I wouldn't mind if they waited until tomorrow but DH is getting very impatient. If you don't hear from me that is why.

Lindie, it is funny that you mentioned Katy Perry as that was the other song the girls really enjoyed. You are right that they had no idea how significant the two remaining Beatles were. I commented on that just when I saw them seated together!

Cathy, I hope today is a little bit easier for you after putting in a full day yesterday. What are the plans at your school for making up all those days?

Anne, Emmett is still cranky a LOT and Owen loved being here when Kathryn was here but complained when he was stuck with just me. I would offer him play-doh, puzzles, reading or playing with Lego Blocks and he would choose reading and then say he was bored because Kathryn wasn't here. He also told me he has to bring toys from home because the toys here are boring. I got out the big Lego board and a backpack full of Legos and he said, " I didn't know you had these!" It was a long four hours without DD2! Their mother picked them up by herself for the first time yesterday so maybe this bout of depression is over. I offered to take them today but they had plans to meet some friends to swim at the Holiday Inn. There is a water park there and you can pay $5 to use it even if you do not stay there. I hope she is super careful taking them out and that she gets them EXTRA dry before taking them home.
I hope your family can get out before that storm hits and you have plenty of strength and energy to fully enjoy their visit. Good luck with the Mass decision, I know what you are going through. We are going from five to four this summer and possibly closing a church.

Dianne, mainstreaming is a TOUGH one, those children, who I imagine are severe, should have assistants with them! If anyone watches "Parenthood," this is a topic they are covering with the character, Max, who has autism. They do/did a very good job covering the frustration of the parents, student, teacher and administrator. Max spews off facts and can't stop while the teacher is lecturing and he is constantly being sent to the library so the others can learn. The solution they are heading towards is unattainable for most but we'll see what they do.

Even though it is COLD, I get a day off! My plan is to work in my bedroom some more and to read while still resting and trying to recover from this cold or whatever it is. In other words, I will be under a blanket, clutching a hot beverage near the fire! Have a great day!

Morning! I went to my history group meeting last night--we watched the video "A Midwife's Tale--the Story of Martha Ballard". She was a wife/mother/midwife in Maine in the late 1700s and kept a diary--it survived and gives us an idea of life for a woman in that time period. The PBS documentary was well done and I enjoyed it. Cathy--you would likely enjoy the book and the video.

I plan to go to my water aerobics class this AM--it is 11 here but I'll be fine. Wisconsin stock!! LOL My mom is going to volunteer at the nursing home today unless they call her and say too many flu cases like they did last week. I do worry about them but at least they watch out for each other.

I teach tomorrow--haven't since 1/15 and things have been changed. I will have 26 kids--including 4 from a separate class room that we'd like to have come on their own but the school insists they be mainstreamed. We would do the same program but tailor it more to them. We can't win this one--have been having the same argument for years....

I did find my ski pass--but really haven't started packing. MUST do this afternoon!

I hope Betsy is not frozen and Anne finds strength today--and joy as her family is coming and Lindie finds NO fleas and Cathy has steps but isn't drained. Hi to Terri and hopefully Carol and Mare and Michelle and others we miss!

Boss worked for me last night! Got most of my paperwork caught up. Balanced checking accounts. Paid bills that were due. Got December bills (that were paid but never filed) put away and set up 2014's file box. Made soup from the turkey broth I had frozen a while back. Made a lousy batch of snickerdoodles...not sure what I did wrong. I was going to take the snickerdoodles to the Parish Pastoral Council meeting, but did that didn't happen. They came out too cake-like. Parish Council meeting was mostly about how to cut down the 7 Weekend (Sat PM & Sunday) Masses between the 2 parishes to 5 Masses. As well as what to do about the weekday Mass schedule. It was a long meeting that finally came up with an agenda to plead the case to the parishes this weekend (yours truly will attend 2 Masses to assist at this) and then meet again with feedback next Monday. I need to really think about how I feel the schedule should be, so that I can suggest a plan...maybe Fr. S will drop some serious hints about what he would like, and I will scoop them up and use them, lol!

Cathy, great job on the steps. It is hard to get back into the routine of things when you've been off for a bit! I know I wouldn't go to water anything with the temps we are having...it got very cold once the sun went down yesterday and it is very cold this morning! Haven't checked the temp, but I was shocked by cold when I let Tucker out!

Lindie, how'd you make out with the Vet call and the flea attack?

Betsy, how'd the boys like being the only ones there?

Dianne, good luck with your packing!

Dh told me that Tom called last night. He and Ashley (and dogs) may head up today after her doctor's appointment. He got off due to the impending snowstorm. Not sure when that storm is/was supposed to start...makes me nervous, though!

Have a nice day, all!

Good morning, I was exhausted after being back to work---had a lot of walking to do yesterday, up and down the ramp a lot--got over 10000 steps---did not go to water aerobics---the wind was just sooo cold when I came out of school ---with only one game I could have made it---but I wimped out---usually it is not that cold in the winter so I keep going.
I might have games tonight---but snow is in the forecast--and coming up from the south---so we might get more than they think. Very cold here today---not compared to Betsy---but our high for today is 16---and lots of wind. Stay warm and safe.

Popping in to say hi, wish I had the Waltons on DVD I would really enjoy watching it again - the DVD's are about 100.00 for a set, too steep for me right now ..

Hope everyone is having a good evening and yes I been reading.

Betsy did your day go ok with the two boys?

ANd I agree with your young people about the grammies, it was boring. I loved Katie Perry's set, hated Biance - too sexually explicit and loved PINK"s set on the wire, very well done. Enjoyed Sir Paul M and Ringo Starr back on stage, I bet the young ones found it boring because it was more like a reunion of the old foggies of rock/roll/country/pop etc ... I went to bed before it was over.

Have a good night everyone !!

I am just popping in quickly to say there is no rest for the weary. I received a text this morning asking if Emmett and Owen could come today and I responded that they could but they would be the only children here. I have not heard back so I am assuming they will appear at 9 as usual. It is minus 15 without the wind chill and I don't know what it is with it yet. Time for breakfast! Have a great day!

It is 37 here this AM--will be in the 20s or teens by tonight. Cold in the house but I am NOT turning up the heat. Heading to the gym soon.

DD2 was bummed--the Devils and the Blackhawks lost their hockey games yesterday. I get upset when the Packers lose--for about 5 minutes. She was major bummed all evening. I'll be glad when she gets working--she needs to find out when she can go tour her living spot and meet the other intern/housemate.

I have to pack--I teach on Wednesday and we leave Thursday. I don't want to start Wednesday night! Laundry needs doing--told hubby this would be the last laundry so make sure stuff was clean or in the basket! I am getting excited to go--guess SIL has invited a group that won't be skiing so that will be "odd" but we'll survive the 2nd week--it IS her condo, after all! And I won't have to worry about cooking!

Cathy—my teaching now is science so “regular” clothes! Anyone from a place with bad weather can’t believe how often NJ schools close. It is pretty ridiculous! In Wisconsin, there would NEVER be school if they closed like they do in NJ—and likely your area!

Betsy—I served dinner for the Family Promise guests—these are homeless families that move to live in churches for a week at a time while getting social worker support to find job, housing they can afford, etc. My folks were both tickled pink at having them show up—went out for lunch but then sister decided the 2 hour drive home better start while it was daylight. My sister got more gas after running OUT on Sat—but it was $1000 for 200 gallons so they will likely wear COATS in the house! Hope you got some extra sleep today and feel better! WI and MN kids will be in school till July 4! DD3 says they had class all along and she wears her ski stuff to walk to class—isn’t too far but far enough—she was REALLY cold last night coming home after Bible study.

Anne—I like the BYOB places—we just take some wine or beer and that is fine. I NEVER order a cocktail—they are too expensive! I hope you can get your boss to help out so you can concentrate on what you have to get done. Does work pay for the ink cartridges?

Terri—I LOVED the Waltons! And that does fit your family!!

Lindie—hope the fleas so soon. Maybe you’ll have to bring Kartman and visit the East coast or Midwest and freeze the fleas!

Good morning, all!

Terri...did you all pretend to be the Walton's at the end of your day...G'night Grandma, G'night Grandpa, G'night Overnighter1, G'night Overnighter 2, G'night Overnighter 3, G'night Overnighter 4...! That is such a good, clean show! We really need more like that these days!

Betsy, did the girls shut the show off once they got bored. I think the whole thing is so overrated and phony...the awards are like reality TV shows! Glad the sauce came out great and that dh found out last night rather than 5 or 6 in the AM! Were there any schools open? Yay to the break for the daycare...hope that they all don't come, if you need the day for continued rest!

Cathy, I don't know how the kids can pay attention when the schools are too hot or too cold! Bad enough when the temp is okay, lol! You would think they would put the school on some kind of an automatic thermostat so that it could warm up some before everyone arrived! Hope it isn't all that bad.

It is currently 34*F right now. Felt like a heat wave when I let Tucker out this morning! Supposed to reach about 43* at some point today, then tonight it will be 9*...nuts! Tomorrow's high is 25*/low 11*...the temps will go back up as the week progresses...bet people are going to be sick with this fluctuation!

Heading to Mass in a few, then to the store for ink for my printer...grrrr! I had so much to printout for work last night and couldn't...sent me to a halt on some of what I had to do. Going to lunch with my sister...her b-day was yesterday. Looking forward to it! Still have to finish getting the tax info together...think I may ask my boss if she can work for me tonight...that way I can have all afternoon (after lunch) to get that done. Plus with the kids coming up, I want to be prepared! (Like that will happen, lol!)

Wishing all a good day!

LOL, Terri, that is perfect for your group!
Betsy, so glad your dh gets the day off, too---and knows ahead of time---we usually have to wait til the next morning here so I was shocked when we were told the night before last week. And glad your dd1 has off too.
Well, some schools here have delays---but not us---but the temps are up and betting those areas might just have fog or their back roads might still be a mess---some areas did get more snow than we did.
Have a good day---keep moving!

Terri, that is just PERFECT for your family! Enjoy Ma and Pa Walton and the rest of the Walton clan.

Cathy, I did not watch the Grammys but DD2 and her friend did. They are fans of Hunter Hayes and he debuted a song about bullying so they were really excited about that. Once he sang they were bored and just enjoyed talking. The spaghetti sauce was delicious and so was the dark mixed green salad we had with it. The laundry is still in progress. Sweatshirts and jeans take forever to dry. DH's white dress shirts are waiting for the dryer and I will resume washing tomorrow.

DH's school FINALLY closed but so far for Monday only. The only people I have not heard from are Emmett and Owen but if they come it isn't until 9 so I am OK with that. DD1s school is also closed for Monday only and she questioned if there was a school open in the entire state tomorrow. If any are open they should be shamed into closing by airing their names with a "What are you thinking? " beside it or something like that.

Have a great Monday!

I'm not sure how much time I'll have so didn't take the time to read up. We've got our 4 over-nighters, dinner is done and they're playing for a while before bed. I think we'll watch one of the DVDs they brought with them. Guess what Betsy...they brought The Waltons!

I just had to tell you that :)

Betsy, I will be back to layers on Tuesday and Wednesday at work---at least 3---and probably 2 for tomorrow since the heat has been off all weekend. Sure hope your dh gets to stay home tomorrow and stay safe---our superintendant come from our area---or close by---I think he is from Michigan---he was shocked on how we do not handle snow or cold well down here---I think he is finally getting it---but only after a lot of complaints. How did the sauce turn out? I am thinking one night we will be having spaghetti this week---but I have some frozen so just have to thaw it out. I will try to get hold of Andy this week and get him imput for you. Did you get the laundry done?
Anne quite the shopping trip---and I so envy you the dinner at Cracker Barrel---the one we thought we were getting is not coming---everyone is upset about it---I know it would hurt some other businesses big time. Have no idea about dh and his hands----males!
Lindie, that is not bad on the number you got off of him---and the neck is usually an area where they congregate--also under the chin is another place to really comb and back by the tail.
I have finished 2 books today---might start another or might just crash on the couch. I am not watching the Grammy's---hate award shows ---find them boring---and their choices in dress usually discuss me.

Lindie, our house is cold so we have to wear layers but DD2 hates it, a warm weather girl she is! DH doesn't work in our school district but a rural one which is usually quite good. The superintendent is the type that needs something to happen to "get it." He LIKES it when they are open and everyone else is closed, crazy man! DH thinks it is an ego problem. Fortunately he has about ten hours left to close and hopefully he will.

Anne, DH will only be home if his superintendent gets his act together but hopefully he will. The last time he did not cancel when he should have he heard about it from parents for quite some time. Your comment about a beached whale made me laugh, only someone without manners would say that. You are SO right about that attire being inappropriate for a rectory job but it would be funny if you COULD do it for an April Fools joke or something like that just to see the Fathers reactions!

Load two is ready for the dryer, the dishwasher is full and I am on my way back to our bedroom to put clothes ( and unfortunately other stuff) away. DD2 has a friend over and they are watching the Grammy Awards so the TV will not tempt me tonight.

Betsy and Lindie, I guess I took too long to put together my post, lol! I was in layers on Friday...a short sleeved t-shirt, a long sleeved shirt, a vest, and when I went out a jacket. Not a fan of all that layering! I should live in Hawaii...in a swimsuit (was that a beached whale I saw!) and shorts! Of course, I couldn't work in a rectory in that get up...that would be soooo wrong in soooo many ways, lol!

Had a shopping day after work yesterday. Went to Lowe's, the Dollar Store, Ocean State Job Lot, L.L. Bean, and BJ's Wholesale. On our way home we stopped at my cousins'...dh is helping with a kitchen do over. It was 6:30 when we were finally heading home. My cousin & I decided, since none of us had dinner we should meet at Cracker Barrel at 7:30 (our shopping stash would be put away and her dh would be back from a job by then). It was a great way to end the day! I had grilled pork chops...they were very good. One of the good things about dinner there...no alcohol to drive up the cost of dinner!! We split the bill & tip in half...our meals were all comparable in price...only $32 each! If dh & I had gone out to eat at any other restaurant he would have over ordered & had a cocktail or two...bill would have been a lot more than $32!

Lindie, I'm so sorry about the flea situation! Sure hope you can get it to stop! Gene probably should check his clothes before coming in...just in case it is coming from the Canine Crew! Enjoy your comfortable weather...I'm jealous!

Cathy, was dh rushed to get his ring or was his brain in la-la land and he just forgot to wash his hands? Sorry his back was a bugger and you didn't get anything else done at the mall. Maybe next time! Did you have any damage at all due to the frozen pipe?

Terri, hope you are enjoying your circus! Rosie sounds a lot like Tucker...he walks into the room on dh's side of the bed and makes a short, low whimpering sound. No response, he does it again. Then he'll nudge dh with his nose...if dh's hand is out of the covers he touches that, if not, he puts his nose into the chest are of dh. If still ignored he yelps...you'd think he was a little pooch and not a yellow lab! It is sort of funny!

Dianne, happy birthday to your Dad! Glad your folks are doing okay with such cold, nasty weather! What is the name of the Historic Center that you work? It sounds like an awesome job. I love going to the different museums in Salem or Plimouth Plantation and have the recreation actors talk and explain things...pretty awesome!

Betsy, no school means your dh will be home, right? These low temps are wreaking a great deal of havoc! We have gas heat and I am very, very glad about that...I know I would never have enough money when it was time to fill the oil or propane tank! Hope your symptoms clear up for you! I can understand not going to the doctor's...they do tend to make it not worth your while at times.

Hey! to everyone I missed! Hope all is well!

Going to work on my taxes...be back tomorrow! Have a great night all!

Betsy, you are right, I am suffering with fleas due to our mild weather - if it was cold like your area, they would have no chance to survive !!!

3 layers? I can barely handle 2 I am a one layer person - I get way to warm - but if I am cold, I can put on ... in my bedroom its much cooler then the rest of the apt and sometimes my hands and nose gets real cold lol

That's too bad about your DH's principal being so ... unaware of their teachers and forms of transportations - does he need something very serious to happen for him to "get it " ?? perhaps a complaint to the school board is in order? or the parents's committee?? Not sure what is in your school district or how they run.

Not much else done so far today. Combed Kartmen again and only found one squiggly .... grrrr.... lol

Lindie, your punishment for rubbing it in about the warm weather is having to deal with the pesky fleas! I do hope you get rid of them soon, for your sake and the kitty's. As far as putting a sweater on, it is nice right now( 10 degrees!) but I have three layers on. Tomorrow I will wear four and the top one will be fleece. Most of our area schools have cancelled until Wednesday but DH's hasn't yet and he is MAD. I think they will close but won't post it until the morning. Their superintendent lives really close to the school and sometimes he just doesn't get how dangerous it is for those who have to travel by car or bus. We are supposed to have blowing and drifting snow on top of the cold so it is going to be really dangerous.

Cathy, I agree that it would be wise to have the money invested short and long term. I would love to hear what Andy has to say as I am collecting opinions. Thanks for the offer. DH and I have annuities and I think his comes due in four years. It is hard to believe we opened that 16 years ago with inheritance money from my dad.

Dianne, you have church at night? That turkey soup sounds delicious. DH is making spaghetti with ground beef and ground Italian sausage so our house should be smelling good pretty soon too. If the roads in Wausau are anything like they are here, your siblings will be fine. What a nice surprise for them to have so much family show up at church. We did that for my dad once on Father's Day and he had to do a double take when he saw me, the smile afterward was well worth the travel with three small children.

The phone just rang and it was Ava's mom telling me she left Ava at her grandma's house so she wouldn't have to bring her out in the cold so early in the morning. I MIGHT get a REAL day off! Possibly two!

Produce was purchased, Clayton's first birthday gift also purchased and one load of laundry is complete. On to load two and our bedroom.

Bwahhahahahaha yes I could put him in the carrier and take him for a walk but I think the vaccuming and what not will be ok, we've been paying attention to his "scratching" and licking behavior - the hairball last night was a HUGE hint... so this morning I put him in the chair and started combing. nothing till I hit his neck and then, over 5 fleas in that area ... so ... we will comb him often and I will call the vets tomorrow about the other treatment, they are closed today.

Sure, rub it in about your nice weather! There are flea traps to get---kind of strange really, but they do catch some of them----you might look to see if you can find them. If they really start to bother him before the 1st, it won't hurt to put it on his early---hopefully you are breaking the cycle without spraying---you could always put him in the carrier and take a walk with him---LOL

WOW you all in the east of the country and mid west are having some horrible weather that is soo extreme - yet here I sit, yesterday in balmy sunny weather that while not summer, was very similar to a sunny spring day.

This morning when I got up to do laundry, I was looking out to dense fog !!! But if the sun burns that off it will be sunny again.

FLEAS are back ...grrrrrrr... so the vaccumming and what not are continuing. These are baby ones by the looks and we have caught them early - Kartmen does get his next treatment on FEB 01 - so we will continue to comb and vaccuum and keep an eye on it. I am giving the vacuum a rest to come post and say emoticon we found the fleas this morning - he seemed to be licking and scratching too much and that was a signal to me ... anyway - we decided against any spray ... we hav ea small place and there is no where to put Kartmen while the spray takes effect and the vet was against that anyway.

Yesterday was a busy day and spent mostly with my sister - she came over a t 10 to use my computer and that was it for that day. We went shopping and I got a new pot and pan set - it was over priced but I wanted a complete set and got Lacosta - I like that line.. I looked at another line but it did not have coating on it so would be difficult to clean.

WELLLL my break is over and I have to get back to vacuuming and I hve not even started to cook lunches yet !!!

STAY dry, warm, and in good health over this cold wave and horrible snow you are getting - and by all means, put on a sweater !!! I'll take mine off !!

Dianne, do you have to wear colonial dress for these classes or can you dress for the weather?

Hi, all! Betsy--I feel for you and the cold. My sister did get propane but 200 gal for $1000 is steep! She was digging out electric blankets cause she'll keep the thermostat low for now. We have 21 degrees right now--not too bad. I teach on Wednesday--expect to do it all inside the building and not outside at all. Not my favorite way to tech it but we can do it if we can't go out.

I need to get packing and list making for food. I'd rather read. I have a big pot of turkey soup going for church this evening--smells good. Hubby is starting a loaf of home baked bread for me to take as well.

We might get rain tomorrow---which might help clear up some of the snow, but the temps are going to drop tomorrow night and that might make the roads worse---crazy!
I think putting some of the money in different levels of CDs would be a good idea---that way if she has a need coming up, you know when it will be free to use. Have you talked to an insurance agent about an annuity policy? Might be safer. I don't like to take chances with money myself---work too hard for it. It is all so confusing---but I could ask Andy about the annuity thing is you want me to---he used to work for State Farm and had to pass tests for 4 licenses---he should remember some of it and would tell me what he honestly thinks of them since he no longer works there.
I stopped and got some saline spray and used it---nose feels better---I also inhaled some water in the shower this morning and felt better after that, too. I am not really stuffy but have to blow my nose and not much coming out---a good flushing really helps now and then.

Cathy, we have more snow than usual and it is snowing right now. Our snow will not leave until spring and the banks are getting so high you really have to inch out while driving to see if you can turn safely. I can imagine it was a shock to hear the energy conservation announcement. We see that sometimes in the summer when we get humid spells and everyone runs their AC but not too often.

You are right, an adult should not need to be told to wash their hands. At least he got the ring. My DH is not much of a shopper either and after one or two errands he needs to eat somewhere before he will go on and sometimes that isn't for too long but he will do it. If we are near a book store he will go there while I go and finish the errands. He has gotten to be a really good grocery shopper provided we have a list and I send him to get things while I get the other ones. I used to do it all myself but after we became marriage sponsors for the church and he learned I wanted his help, I got it after a few years of repeating myself. Now all I have to do is get him to at least have an awareness of the bills and how I handle those. I also mentioned that in our marriage sponsor sessions but that just isn't happening. If I meet our maker before he does he will have to learn fast!

It is WAY too dry in this house but I seem to be the only person that is bothered by it. I have never used saline drops ( but I could try) but all of the babies come with them in their diaper bags since cold medicine is no longer advised for infants and toddlers. Sneezing and congestion have joined my scratchy throat but I am still not sick enough to warrant a Dr. visit. They would tell me to come back in three weeks.

Cathy, I tried to put the money in a CD for a year but they would not allow it. They were happy to put it into her savings account to earn interest but she is not allowed to withdraw that amount for thirty days. I read on the Yahoo home page this morning that there is a bank in England that is not allowing their members to withdraw large sums of money from their OWN accounts unless they can PROVE what it is for. Apparently they did this without notice and would not divulge what the limit was. A member tried to withdraw money to pay back a loan to an individual and they denied him! I would leave that place in a heartbeat!

DD2s first settlement is invested in growth and education funds but we need to figure out if we want the final settlement to go into a growth settlement and risk losing some/all of it OR put it into a fund where it would not grow, would give her income and therefore be less risky.

Cathy, I love how you phrased you are not sure what you should "get into" today. You sound like a kid scheming something that will warrant a time out! I am going to work on our Master Bedroom as well as the laundry and possibly go out to buy Clayton a birthday gift. He turns one on Wednesday and he always gravitates to my broom so I am looking for a child size one for him. Maria Montessori would be proud!

DH is telling me to rest but I just got up! It really isn't that trying to be posting either! He has offered to go to the grocery store for produce but I think I will bundle up and venture out with him ( after brunch) as the deep freeze hasn't moved in yet. ( Zero right now so not bad for us.) Yes, we shopped yesterday but that was Wal-Mart and their produce doesn't last more than a day or two so we go to the "regular" grocery store for that.

I need to lookup a couple of recipes to see what produce we need before we go. Have a great day!

Betsy, I just heard about that cold weather on the weather channel---so funny that you mentioned it. We will also be much colder than normal this week, maybe a break by the end of the week---but thankfully not as cold as yours--and hope you have the school cancellation. And our snow is still hanging around---which usually we don't have it last this long around here. My oldest son is on the gas line---we are too, but just for the water heater---not sure if it would be cheaper or be able to convert the furnace over----but definitely safer for not running out----although the other day they were also asking people to conserve energy---never heard that before around here. Glad you got your food staples stocked up with this weather.
No, he did not use the back as an excuse---think he wanted his ring---but we ended up not doing anything but pick it up---his hands were dirty and really dry---which might be why the appeared so dirty. He is an adult and I don't think to tell an adult to wash their hands.
Glad you are taking care of that throat---I have to get out and get some saline spray---forgot that the other day---I think that is my problem right now---too dry in the house which is irritating the sinus. I drank some hot chocolate last night and kind of kept my nose over the cup to get some steam moisture---it did help.
Did you put the money in a short term CD or just deposit it? Might be the new laws about big sums to make sure not money laundry issue or fake check. Good luck figuring out how to handle that money.
I made french bread pizza last night for dinner---we have not had that for ages---and we still have 2 pieces left---either for lunch or for dh to have on Tuesday night.
Not sure what I will get into today---guessing I will have work tomorrow---LOL Have a good day!

We are in for more SEVERELY cold weather and are figuring that school will likely be cancelled on Monday and possibly Tuesday. The high temps for most of the week are below zero and that is WITHOUT the wind chill. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon BRRRRR ! We went grocery shopping today and stocked up on staples and things we like to have when it is so cold. My beef stew, grilled cheese and tomato soup, home made pizza, etc. emoticon
Luckily we are on a budget plan for our heating bill so we pay the same amount for all twelve months and if there is a shortage we pay it in December but we have never had that, often the opposite. emoticon

We took the settlement check to our credit union because I want to seriously think about how we invest it and were told they had to put a THIRTY DAY hold on it. I just wanted it in a safe place so it is there but I do think 30 days is a bit extreme! Apparently they have had instances where someone thought they had the money and then it was pulled away but who says the attorneys couldn't pull it away at 31 days? emoticon

Cathy, were Howard's hands dirty and swollen? Did he try to get out of going to the mall with the aching back excuse? At least he has the ring now. I want to get my past, present and future ring blessed as it replaced my wedding band and engagement ring but we will probably do that on or near our anniversary in October. emoticon

Anne,it sounds like you will be one very happy mother/grandmother for the first half of February, enjoy every minute! Your church sounds a lot like ours. We are dropping from five Masses to four this summer based on attendance. I think everyone who posts here agrees with your thoughts on atheism. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Terri, Rosie sounds like a dream dog! emoticon What kind is she? You may have already said but if you did I forgot.

My throat is still scratchy but it doesn't hurt so I am sure I don't have strep. The laryngitis and dry cough come in spells so I am still drinking lots of hot beverages with lemon and honey emoticon while praying that we actually do get a cancellation on Monday. Ava would come but DH would hang out with her so I could sleep. He is so good to me!

Thanks to everyone who commented on how I was "paying it forward" by taking Emmett and Owen into my care. My heart will never run out of love for the little guys. emoticon

Dianne, now is definitely NOT a good time to run out of propane( in WI) and I am also very happy to be on a main gas line. We had oil heat when we bought our house and we hated how they jacked up the price with every cold snap. I hope all of your trip plans ....and Terri's are going well.

DDs and I were invited to a baby shower in Anchorage, Alaska next Saturday but I think we will be staying home. Feb. 6 is Chocolate Decadence, the 8th is a ladies night and apparently the 9th is a surprise birthday party for the mom who always hosts ladies night. Of course Valentines Day is just five days later so I think the first half of February is going to be a "try your best to maintain" time.

Teri, I know you posted a while back so I just want to say thanks for posting and emoticon hello to you. emoticon to all the others I have not mentioned personally.

The thing is they know they have us over a barrel with this cold weather ---darn energy companies---and I hate when they announce to conserve energy and not to use appliances or turn up your heat during peak periods---what if that is the only time you really need to use it? duh! Hope the meal goes well tomorrow.
We went to the mall and picked up his ring---but his back is hurting him---but I should have made him wash his hands and use lotion on them before we went---geeeshhhh!

My folks are doing okay--Dad has lots of wood in the wood shed. And they have lived there for ever so isn't too different--although this is a bit cold even for them. My sister got 200 gallons of propane--for about $1000. She said she'll keep the temp set about 50 at night! And the dryer will be NOT used--she'll hang things up to dry overnight.

We have about 2 inches of new snow outside. I am tired--Sunday School tomorrow and then I am cooking for the guests of Family Promise at our church--turkey and rice soup and fresh bread. Someone else is bringing salad and dessert.

Hope everyone not chiming in is doing okay!!

Terri, like you, we have enough family close by to not need a sitter for our cats if we go away, too.
Dianne, I do like the bright colors out there for exercise shoes, but overall don't like their looks on my either. HOw are your parents handling the cold? Hope they have enough wood. I am thinking we should have a fuel delivery soon---thankfully we don't have the small tank we had at the trailer, but figuring we are using quite a bit---heard on the news that the companies have had 1200 calls this week. We are on automatic service so I have not called---but did send a payment off ---that usually triggers a reminder to come fill our tank.

Sounds like things are going well--I took no notes so forgive me.

Blessing to you, Betsy--you will help that family so much. It is cold for NJ but our roads are pretty good--mostly clear and dry. We expect more snow tonight but only an inch.

Cathy--so glad someone could help you with the frozen pipe! That can be SUCH a mess.

Terri--I would love to see a PT and figure out if I have the right stuff for my feet/hips--I watch in the mirror and wonder if I am "off" or not. But nothing hurts so likely I'm okay. I need new shoes but hate to go look--I don't like the look of the running shoes, even though I only use them for exercise. Enjoy your day with the grands! Monday will come and it will be quieter!

Called my dad--he is 80 today. My sister and brother plan to surprise my folks at church tomorrow for Dad's birthday. Hope that still works--my sister found this AM that they are out of propane so the house is getting colder--they are 100 on the list to get refilled and the cost will be close to $5 a gallon--it was $2 last fall. They have a wood burning stove in the living room and space heaters but may need to worry about pipes. I think hubby was going to stay home tomorrow anyway but now he'll have to to take care of pipes.

I'm off to shower and then get moving--need to do my packing list and shopping list. DD2 will stay here when we go to CO for skiing so I don't have to get the house ready to leave.

Yes, we enjoy the circus and try not to take it for granted. We're hoping that the grandteens can trade off sleeping here at the house with Rosie while we're gone. We can't afford a house sitter and shouldn't need one with all the family we have close by.

Luckily or unluckily, not sure which, it was all going in the small crawl space under the back area---not part of the basement---one reason why I am leaving that heat lamp plugged in til I am done laundry, hoping it will dry that area good. And yes, Allen was my knight in shining armor---he is a great kid---well, young man, but since I taught him, I still think of him as one of my kids.

Anne, I totally track with your thoughts on atheism--no debate here.

Rosie really is a sweet girl. I went to bed earlier last night (asleep by 10) and was sort of waking up a bit after 5 this morning. I was laying there, trying to determine if my body could go back to sleep or if I was indeed waking up, when I heard Rosie quietly coming down the hall to our room. I was on my side with my hand out of the covers, hanging just a little over the edge of the bed and I just stayed still. I heard her doing her quiet little lip-smacking sound that she does and I barely moved one finger--then she softly touched my hand with her nose. That's how she wakes us up--so quietly and unobtrusively. She gets slowly more insistent if we ignore her and will eventually let out a little moan-growl if we make her wait, but only if she REALLY needs to go out. If it's a full moon, we can tell her to go back to bed and she'll usually go--unless there's a critter on the back porch.

We're enjoying a quiet morning and may go for a walk later, but we're going to have a weekend full of kids. Jenny is going to the coast with one of their 6 and dSIL is going the other direction with the two teens who are going on a double date to an appreciation banquet for their beaux. He will go see a movie or something while the girls and their fellas attend the banquet and will bring them home. The boys are both volunteer firemen. Steve and I are going to keep at least their two youngest (Jasmine and Tim) and possibly more.

Tomorrow, we'll have my boyfriend (dgs, Blaine) and his siblings after church while their parents go to a small group function. Not sure if we'll have them over night or not. It will depend on what their mother has planned for homeschool the next day. They might just stay with us and start school later as that's what they normally do, since my dDIL is not a morning person.

So, this morning I guess we'll batten down the hatches and get ready for the circus :)

I went to do my laundry---and heard water running---so I ran and shut it off---checked the calendar and saw Andy was working---called Matthew, he was working---called Michael and he was on his way to work---but he called his best friend, Allen, and he came to my rescue---my drainage pipe had froze---thankfully not the hoses---we put a heat lamp on it and soon it thawed---so leaving the heat lamp on it til I get all the laundry done--then unplugging it----they were able to run the cord into the basement so with the cold expected for next week, too, I can plug it in again for the next time---so glad it was not something more major. And I have a lot of laundry to do, too. Was not looking forward to having to go to a laundromat.

Anne, don't you see the trend---more and more people are not going to church---and look at how crime rate and other bad things are rising---hmmmm, correlation? I have played Phase 10 before---enjoyed it---glad you had time for friends last night and hope your tummy behaves today. You are going to have a full house soon---bet you are excited about that. Long day yesterday…work, work, work! Then game night at our friends. Played a new game called Phase 10. It was fun, but I was tired and my tummy wasn't feeling so great. We headed home at 10 and I was in bed in no time! Not a good night's sleep, though…Tucker kept coming in acting like he wanted to go out…no way was that happening! Dh thinks it was the moon, even though it was a half moon, it gave a lot of light into the living room. I don't know if that was really it though. I stayed in bed until 8:00 this morning, thus missing morning Mass. Did make it to breakfast, though. Had oatmeal for a change…it was really good! Will be working this afternoon, then have to get my tax info together for my tax appointment next week. Also have to make up a grocery list…going to have company from 1/30 through 2/11…Tom & Ashley (and their 2 dogs) will be here til 2/7 and Theresa, Judson, Griffin, & Circe will join us on 2/5 and leave on 2/11! It is going to be nuts in our house then!

Betsy, I asked the secretary about how many families we have in our church. She said roughly 2,000. If we average 3 people per family, then we should have 6,000 at Masses over the weekend. Sadly, we are lucky if we have 1,000 -1,200. This same thing is happening at my friends' churches, too (non-Catholic ones). I do not understand why people can't make time to join others to thank the Lord for all they have and to petition Him for what they need. The other thing I do not understand is atheism. I just can't imagine believing that this world is all there is. My intention here is not to create a debate, just posting my thoughts and I'm going to stop here!

Cathy, I agree with you…no way would I pay the price for a pair of UGG's. I hate boots any way! I hope you have fun at the mall!

Terri, wish Tucker was Rosie this morning! It is kinda nice when you get up before the dog! What an awesome report for your ankle…keep taking good care of it!

Dh is talking to me (again) and I have to head to work…catch you all later!

Anne

Betsy, sounds like she has a bad case of post-parden depression---if she has a bad case, it is better for those kids to be with you--and some people think I will stay home with the kids and cannot handle that and that leads to depression. Kind of interesting that this kind of comes back round from your childhood---kind of deja vu and paying it forward---I am sure it helped you to be away from your mom at times when the depression got too much for her to handle kids. I do have a pair of the knockoff Uggs that I got from Sam's club---I would like a pair that is shorter and darker though as I often have problems getting these off. I am betting the grandparents are finding it hard to handle the 2 kids and are going to pay for them to be there--and they might need to head back home if they have been staying there. I know my grandparents helped my mom out at times---she tried not to let it happen but sometimes she just needed help.
Not sure what I will get into today. I know I want to go to the mall but going to wait for dh so we can get his ring. Have a good day!

Let me start by saying how foolish I was to allow a toddler near the computer BEFORE I hit "post message" this afternoon! emoticon I had a post completed but not sent when the new children arrived ( DD2 was downstairs with children) and I had to answer the door in a hurry. We went right downstairs and the post was forgotten until just before nap when tiny Clayton reached up and patted a few keys on the keyboard making my message disappear! emoticon I will TRY to remember what I wrote.

Cathy, there are knockoffs of Uggs, DD2 wears them all the time. I hope your trainer is able to develop a program for you that you enjoy. How did you manage driving in the wintry stuff? We are in for MORE cold and have been getting a lot of blowing and drifting. This winter has been brutal and we have a long way to go. We are hopeful we will be rewarded with a PERFECT summer. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Dianne, I saw the news footage of that horrific accident north of Chicago but DS knew nothing of it. He came home from work with the news that his workplace has been acquired by someone that makes the current owners look like peasants. The current owners DONATED nearly 3,000,000 dollars to our university's Fine Arts Center so they are obviously very wealthy. I can tell you who acquired the place on Monday when it is officially announced . I bet most( or all) of you will recognize the name.

Lindie, I think New Balance likes to mess with us because every other time I go to buy shoes they are no longer making the model my bones/joints have grown accustomed to. I truly have to break in the shoes AND my whole body! My favorites used to be Reeboks but now they are too narrow. emoticon I hate that all of the shoes that work for me are runners so they have that netting on them that is so ugly.

Anne, the choir director did not know you could hit the high notes?!?!? I see some more vocal work in your future. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Terri, I am sorry you may have to part with your comfortable toe shoes. emoticon Yes, I hate that phrase, "at your age..." The first time I heard it was when I was told I needed to start wearing reading glasses and the last time I heard it was at my gyno physical. At least it was positive. he said I was doing well with weight because most women "at your age" aren't doing as well.

After dinner DH wanted to watch last night's episode of "Big Bang" on demand so we started to but he fell asleep emoticon emoticon so that was that. He stayed asleep for two hours before he woke up to go to bed! I used the time to go through the cupboards and freezers to menu plan and make a grocery list. We actually made it through three weeks on the last plan with DH stopping for an item here and there on his way home.

After ONE day of caring for Emmett and Owen, we have been asked to go full time rather than three days a week. I said I needed to think about it and the mom handed me a BLANK emoticon signed check and said she wasn't sure what she owed for this week. I found it curious that the grandparents have been doing all of the dropping off and picking up so I asked Owen if they came to his house every day. His response was, "My mom is still sick." I asked how long she had been sick and he replied, " A long time." I realize that to a five year old a long time can be 5 minutes, an hour , three days, etc so I asked the grandpa if his daughter was OK . He hesitated before telling me she has been sick for a month and it is depression. I was going to say no to full time for at least a few weeks but now I feel obligated to say yes. The grandparents are very good friends with people who are my second family. A large reason why they are so special to me is that they took care of ME when my mother was hospitalized with depression when I was still in grade school. Their baby was born when I was 11 and she is the first baby I ever took care of. Isn't it strange how their friends wound up living behind me? Their son, proud daddy of three boys is my Godson. I rarely get to see them because they live in IN but they are VERY special people.

Don't worry, I filled in the check with the correct amount and sent a note with what it was so she could record it.

The last big news here is that Ava's mom picked her up with a photo album of ultrasound pictures of the baby. They are AMAZING. Technology has come a long way since we had our babies. The photos had captions of things like "Criss cross applesauce" explaining the baby's position or "Boy?" emoticon Ava's mom got to name her so her dad gets to name this one. He wants to use some form of Frederick ( if it is a boy) and she hates that name so this will be very interesting. The moral of the story is name your babies together!

Dianne, did you take a nap or keep busy?
Terri, I asked God for that gift---and He gave it to me. Glad you went to the PT person---hope those inserts help. I can understand with the price of shoes having to wait for the dress shoes.
Good games tonight---we won both---kind of gave me a chance to get out of the house---not walking tomorrow---Deb has things she has to do---have to see how cold it is---I might go to the gym again or just go walk in the mall by myself---but dh and I need to go to the mall to get his ring so I might just wait til later and do stuff around here. We might get some more snow flurries here and if we do, I won't be going anywhere.

Boy, I hear you on the nap, Dianne! We went to bed around 11 last night and I kept waking up to check the clock. I saw every hour and finally got up at 5:30. Rosie heard me get up and was ready to go out, but I beat her this time--she usually comes into our room and wakes us up. We went to my PT appt. and then shoe shopping, Costco and KMart (for cheap work boots for Steve), and then home. I actually laid my seat back and slept on the way home for about 20 minutes but feel like I could sleep more. I'm hoping I'll wake up a little now that we're home. It might be an early night tonight.

Well, the evaluation with the therapist went well today. She told me I am definitely beating the odds with my ankle healing so well as most such injuries require surgery in people my age (gotta love that phrase, right?). I told her about our walks and my blister and the tendon soreness, etc. and she said it was all fine, but to stretch, stretch, stretch those calves when walking hills because it really works the Achilles on hills. I told her that I was trying to pay attention to how I step to be sure my foot was striking on the heel, etc. so she had me walk across the room a couple of times and then gave me a couple of small orthotics for my heels. The SAS shoes I had on have removable insoles, so she was able to just stick the orthotics under the insoles and that made a big difference! She also vetoed my toe shoes--possibly indefinitely--and that really disappoints me because they were just SO comfortable.

She recommended getting some sturdy lace-up work boots for working outside or hiking, so that's what we bought today. I still don't have any dressy shoes, though! But it cost Steve nearly $200 for those boots so I wasn't going to ask for more today! We can look again after next payday.

Let me say again how much I envy you songbirds. I have about a 3 note range and that's on a good day.

I need to go and get some other sparking done, so will sign off for now. Might pop back by later if I can.

I got to the gym and then met my friend at Panera. Took DD2 along as well and we stopped at AC Moore (craft store) on the way home. Got some bayberry candles for cheap and some notes cards--DD2 made cards and has lots of stamps, etc -- I'm hoping she'll get back into that.

I'm tired--yawning tired! Have stuff to do but would prefer a nap.

Staying home tomorrow--I'll get to the gym but that is it. I need to do some planning for the trip--what to take and what to pack for food from here (spices, etc) and what to buy there. I'd prefer a nap.
