Good morning Dianne and Cathy and all of the AEN team!

Oh, I was excited for today to come so I could get started. During the holidays, my eating just unravels and there is food and company everywhere, always eating!

I got some new ingredients to try, kefir and a fabulous spinach salad mix, acorn squash and 2 pomegranates...I got a gift certificate to a local "taphouse" where they feature fabulous vinegar and oils so I picked out a dark chocolate balsamic vinegar and chipotle olive oil. There's some good eating today at my house as opposed to most days that feature canned tuna.
emoticon

My super-knotty 2013 challenge will be the water. Ick. I despise water. I hate to be a pessimist but I'll never get 8 glasses down...I'll have to set my goal a little lower. Maybe 4? Maybe you all will have fabulous advice about downing it?

emoticon emoticon emoticon

Ooof! Still looks like a lot.

Lets see if we can stick to the program ALL DAY! (And then do it again tomorrow!)

Lindie---I so enjoy having a girl to do things with---I was a girly girl so I missed that with my sons---although they did watch a lot of girly Disney movies, etc when young---and got small kitchen sets to play with, too---along with cars and trucks
Mariann---glad to see you found us---and I will be starting a new chat for January either late tonight or early tomorrow. And don't be afraid to put your 2 cents in---and you can use our Screen names until you get a handle on our names. I am Cathy---but used to LeCates as I work in a high school.
Dianne, thanks for the help---I know I will need it for the next few weeks til I get this wedding over with and all the Christmas stuff packed up and the cake baked and decorated and all those little incidental things.

Well hopefully Betsy's DH will see the reasoning behind staying home and getting healthy, no one wants to wind up in the hospital, and especially at our age - so here's hoping he listens - and stays put !!

Dianne, so many people put off exercise because they have a head cold, but you are right, you can exercise with a head cold, its a chest cold that you should not exercise with - otherwise it can get worse. Good luck in losing those 4 lbs but please please please, do not send them MY way lol !

OH boy Cathy, you have the "I wants" really bad, and I think you are already in your 2nd childhood that we are suppose to all revert back to ... I sure hope my second is better then my first LOL I was never a dolly person except for my tiny tears doll and what they make as tiny tears just is not the same thing.

So what have you girls decided for your "intentions" this new year? I intend to continue with my cardio rehab program, and to try to loose weight but not focus on it firstly but rather as a secondary present from working so hard at the other ... My other intention is to continue to add new life style skills to my 2 I have already established. Guess I better get over to that thread !!!

2013 can be as good or as bad as you allow it to be - within reason emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Betsy, I have to agree with Dianne--if he goes back too soon he could be out for a lot longer than a day or 2.
Dianne, I am sure once you start moving again at your pace, it will come back off---good for you in already getting some of it off already.
Just told Reagann to get up on the couch for her nap--Alice In Wonderland is on Disney so she will fall asleep to that. She has the cutest night light in her room now---it projects the 3 Princesses up on the ceiling---I want one---LOL

Happy New Year's Eve, ladies! I "celebrated" by getting my blood work done from my physical earlier this month. Then we went out for breakfast--I am not cooking till tonight when we'll have finger foods in honor of the holiday. Did make my girls get their flu shots--neither were happy but given dorm and 4th graders, I said they needed them. (Insurance covered 100% so no good reason not to.)

My DB is ice fishing today--and we have 35 degrees. Betsy--I do love WI (haven't gotten any Rose Bowl stuff--may wait till they win and put my order in then--hope I didn't jinx it) but I can do without the COLD and the mosquitoes....

I was right about the weight--the water part is falling off pretty quickly and I am back under 150. Still want to lose 4 more pounds--aiming for 143. I signed up for the January Bootcamp Challenge and I got the newest Spark DVD--body sculpt--DD1 owed me some $$ so I said bet this and we are even. Haven't tried it yet--the cold is all in my head so I could work out.

Betsy--you'd better get hubby to call out sick NOW--at least for Wed and better till 1/7. I KNOW he won't want to but 3 days now is better than 3 weeks later when he pushes too hard. Just tell school the x-ray showed a spot and they won't argue!

Welcome back, Phyllis---know what you mean---glad you are back and hope things are going smoother with the kids.
Betsy, I know that making lesson plans for an elementary class is a lot of work---and they will be all keyed up after having off---so it will require a lot of energy that day---remind him of that!
Lindie--ouch to grating your finger along with the carrots. Good for you in making those muffins and putting them in the freezer.
Terri, hope she likes the side-by-side---I always feel like there is not enough room in them for me---but then, I do cakes so need the wider refrigerator shelves for that. But nice that she gets something newer for their place.
Have Reagann this morning so need to run---Challenge for today is make a list for January tasks---remember to include some fun things in there as well as work related---and also, January is time to start getting rid of some of your clutter so make sure you include that in your list.
Already started the new Blessings topic but with a new title---also the Question of the Week(or Month) topic for 2013.
Also, new members are joining---please make them feel welcome when they post--Mariann@ has already posted on a old New topic.

Lindie, Airborne is an immune booster. It comes in tablets that you put into about 4 oz. of water and it fizzes up like Alka-Seltzer--but it tastes a whole lot better. I'm not sure what all is in it, but we start making "cocktails" as soon as we see a snotty nosed kid, and it seems to work. Steve gets sick more often than I do, but still not very often.

We talked to the kids a couple of weeks ago about having a game night at our house to bring in the New Year, but it's been such a crazy week with Christmas and then everyone going over to Mom's to help her, that we may all just want to go to bed early. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Betsy, I know what you mean about the handguns. We've never owned one, but my son loaned me one to take on my walks because we have lions and bears in our woods--but Steve didn't want me to take it. Interesting role reversal, right? What I used to have years ago was a .22 semi-automatic. I could fire 18 times without reloading, but it didn't fire super fast. When I was a teenager, I took the hunter's safety course so that I could go deer hunting with my dad and brother and really enjoyed it. I never got a deer, but had fun anyway. I hope your husband is a good patient and lets his body recover. Tell him he'd better behave or you'll have Carol come down and give him a shot with a fat needle!

Steve and the kids made it home this evening. Jenny scored a new-to-her side-by-side refrigerator from Mom because there was already a newer one in the new house. It's still in the back of our pickup, but the guys will unload it and get it hooked up tomorrow. Nice New Year's gift!

I have not listened to the spark radio either, I imagine they would have different sports/health/wellness/nutrition peeps as guests on it .. I'll have to give it a listen to sometime.

Terri what is AirBorne, and what does it do, is it an imune boosting drink? Never heard of it.

I was watching DR OZ for the first time in a long time and he was debunking certain myths - some diet related but the one that stuck out for me was the 5 second rule - he proved that you get germs even with that, you know when you drop something if you pick it up in 5 seconds you are germ free? NOT ... lol

Betsy, it will be a quiet New Years here as well, my daughter arrives from Winnipeg and I am sure she and her sister have plans, that wont' include me which suites me just fine. No first night for me.

I did the buttermilk/orange zest muffin recipe today. OH BOY did I learn a thing or two !! 1. when you grate carrots, do not grate your finger ! 2. pouring boiling water over oat bran creates a glob of mess that you can't stir into anything BUT I used my dandy handy glass container mixer and fixed it that way but I added the baking soda to the flour instead of before adding the flour, oh well. I got 37 muffins, all tucked away in the freezer now except 1 that I will have tomorrow. It was suppose to make 48 muffins but I made large, not medium.. they smelt good anyway.

Other then that I have done nothing, well except KP ... cleaning while baking - what a mess ! Will I do the recipe again? YES !! It was ok, will know the taste tomorrow though.

Wishing everyone a good night - and happy monday tomorrow - enjoy what ever you have planned to do.

Thanks Carol! I read your message to DH and he is listening to me fairly well about resting but he has gotten to that point where he is going CRAZY because he isn't doing anything. He is better but he is definitely still dependent on the inhaler. Jay is an extremely devout man so the fact that he willingly missed church speaks volumes. I don't think he will be ready for school on Wednesday ( we'll see) but I don't know if I can hold him back from that. After reading your comments (and even before) it wouldn't surprise me if he has bronchitis and pneumonia. I promise to take good care of everyone else and get them in quickly if they exhibit symptoms of illness.

Terri, if that gun does come into my home I will take a gun safety course. I agree you needed one for protection but I just don't think I do. Once when dd1 was about 10 years old she came into our room during the night and scared the living daylights out of me by standing next to our bed to wake me up. I reacted and DH reacted so harshly that I had to calm HIM down so I could tend to HER. It turned out she had an enlarged spleen due to mono. If there were a gun nearby he might have thought I was reacting to an intruder and accidentally shot HER, that is why I do not want a hand gun in our house. We already have a hunting rifle and I feel that is enough.

Tomorrow will be the first New Year's Eve that we will ring in sans children since 1985 and of course DH has to be sick emoticon Oh well, at least it will be quiet. emoticon

Dianne, I loved your comment about WI being sick all of the time, you are SO right! emoticon Even with that we love it anyway, we must be crazy. I think of you every time I am in a store and see Rose Bowl clothing, did you get any from your sister? So far my favorite attire has been red and white striped overalls that I saw at Fleet Farm. Let's hope the Badgers fare better than our Pack did today.
Hope you feel better soon.

No, haven't listened to it---really don't like "talk" radio shows--and no sound on computer at home. Glad to hear it is not bad--maybe I will when I have no one in DRR with me some morning---which is not that unusual---kids don't want to come down to me---LOL
Hope you don't catch her cold!

Cathy, you took the words right out of my mouth--or off my keyboard, in this case! LOL We ARE old wives! Steve is the one who always seems to catch cooties from the kids. We swear by AirBorne and use it regularly. I also use other supplements, like garlic, echinacea and Vit. C just to be extra sure. Mary Beth was hacking and sneezing last night and I finally gave her some cough syrup so she could sleep. I'm going to be drinking Airborne today--just because...

Shelby and I went out to the wood pile this morning and filled up the wheelbarrow. I split a few more green logs and she added the dry wood. We'll be good for the day, at least--and I got 15 minutes of cardio!

Have any of you listened to Spark radio? I've been listening to past episodes this morning while checking email and finishing my sock. It's actually fairly entertaining.

LOL that I got sick from wet feet--ladies, you ALL know that is an old wives tale or WI would be sick ALL winter! Hubby has a cold/sinus and I may be getting that.

Church today was nice--didn't do enough carols but I am never satisfied unless we sing for at least an hour. The praise band played--I just don't like carols with electric guitar. My one Sunday School child had a big gift for me--bamboo utensils (to go with the good nonstick pans I got from hubby), a new pepper grinder and a cross with Jeremiah 29:11 written on it. (Yes, you'll have to look it up--would be great for the wedding duo.)

Today will be relaxing--I may go poke around Kohls. DD1 got home safely with hubby--they fly in/out of San Jose when they can--closer to the house and not as big an airport. They said the house was fine--smelled a bit like cats but that is to be expected with 3 of them! I sent home cat toys for them--handmade by me.

Hope you are all enjoying this last Sunday of 2012!

Carol, good advice---we are sure you are enjoying the chaos but also looking to getting back to something more normal--esp. with dh going back to work and needing quiet.
Lindie, doesn't it still thrill you to see new boxes of crayons?
I am not sure what I will be up to today---thinking of calling my walking buddy to see if she wants to see Les Mis at the movies---if not, I would like to go roaming a few stores---probably go by myself---want to look at Lowe's to see what they have to repair my ceiling, also want to hit Walmart and maybe even Kohl's and Michael's----have Reagann tomorrow so won't be able to do it then---but then I would also like Michael to find my cake books so they can pick out a wedding cake pattern and bring up a few bins for me to start packing this stuff up---normally I would wait a bit---but with the wedding, I need to get this all done sooner rather than later.
Today's challenge----Do something for YOU today! Have a good one!

Hey All! Sorry -- have been so busy with everyone here, haven't been on my computer at ALL since last time I posted on here until just now!

It's late BUT I wanted to just tell Betsy that you were indeed right on several points you mentioned about DH... The flu is NOT treatable with antibiotics -- it's a virus... You CAN get Tamiflu or some such to try to minimize the symptoms -- but that's about it -- except for getting a flu shot...which helps you build immunity against the flu viruses that the shot includes (usually 3 forms of flu)... However -- the shots ONLY work if the CDC "guesses" correctly about which viruses are going to be prevalent -- which they HAVE missed on before (season where H1N1 was so bad is a good example -- they REALLY missed the boat THAT year!)....

Anyway -- from what you told me, it sounds like they gave him antibiotics because he was developing pneumonia -- which can be a secondary infection FROM the flu -- and THAT can be treated with antibiotics. Alot of times, that's why flu shots are recommended -- NOT to necessarily escape GETTING the flu -- but to hopefully AVOID secondary infections that occur WITH/AFTER the flu! Most people don't actually die from having the flu -- they die from all the OTHER stuff that can come WITH the flu -- like pneumonias etc....IF they're elderly or otherwise compromised etc (and thus why the age/high risk category recommendations for flu shots)....

So I'm guessing someone that treated DH misspoke -- OR they weren't sure WHY he had pneumonia and surmised it was a secondary infection from him having had flu... But you CAN just GET pneumonia too... But a dark spot on x-ray is NOT flu.... And usually a spot means pneumonia -- not bronchitis... Bronchitis is actually an inflammation ("itis" means inflammation) -- so it's HEARD and people have symptoms -- vs. pneumonia can ONLY truly be diagnosed by x-ray -- because they're looking for those spots -- as well as symptoms etc...

Thus DH either had a mild case of flu that moved into pneumonia without him realizing he HAD the flu first -- or he just picked up a pneumonia "bug" from someone... HOWEVER pneumonia can be "tricky" to treat -- because you HAVE to get the "right bug" when picking an antibiotic out to treat it... THAT is why they wanted him to come back after 48 hours if there wasn't improvement. He should KNOW by then if it's the correct med... If he's NOT starting to feel a LITTLE better, that would mean they need to try a DIFFERENT antibiotic that will kill a DIFFERENT bug... Sometimes it will take several before they "get it"...so don't be alarmed if that happens....

And as for treating the whole family preventatively... Alot of doctors will do that -- but alot will not...UNLESS you ask/demand it... Depending where DH was exposed, you MAY "dodge that bullet" and no one else in the family may get it...just can't always tell. Although if he was exposed to pneumonia itself, that's not quite as contagious -- so you wouldn't be as "prone" to ending up with that... Just be AWARE -- because if one of you starts feeling "not great" -- but aren't extremely sick, you MIGHT still have pneumonia and need to be seen! Especially pneumonia tends to be "less strong" as it moves down the line -- if it DOES get passed around... And people can not even know they HAVE pneumonia -- that's why you'll hear people say someone has "walking pneumonia" -- because they aren't laid out with it etc...

Anyway -- hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hard to be able to tell exactly when I'm just going on what you posted -- but that's what it sounds like to me... Sure wish I was closer so I could head over with my stethoscope and listen to DH's lungs etc!! I would MAKE SURE he stays in and RESTS!!! And I mean DOWN -- feet up -- the whole nine yards. It's the ABSOLUTE BEST thing you can do for pneumonia -- without a doubt!! The body REALLY NEEDS that rest to fight off the pneumonia -- to prevent it from getting worse!! And ANY time the lungs are compromised, it's important to NOT push it -- something called oxygen saturations can REALLY drop when someone has pneumonia -- and it's NOT good if they push it too much - from a very serious standpoint!

I really need to sign off -- it's late and I need to be up early tomorrow -- and we have a FULL day! Probably won't be on again for a bit.... Betsy -- hope DH is feeling MUCH better very soon!

Hi to everyone!!!! "Talk" to you all soon -- after the chaos is gone from here! LOL...

Betsy, hope you find that medal in a pants or coat pocket---and smart not to let him go out tomorrow if he is not 100 %.
Dianne, we told you so---LOL---sure hope it is just sadness from DD1 leaving---glad you had help at the house tour and a good turn out.
Lindie, LOL---we colored today together---I love doing that---I still like to color---why don't we adults do it more often?
Terri, sounds like you are hibernating---LOL---but glad you made the right decision to stay home today---have fun playing cards.
Reagann was not too difficult tonight with going home---see, I knew the problem the other times was that she had not seen us for a while or had enough time with us---but of course, I know nothing! LOL

Lindie, the first thing I thought of was Dianne's wet feet--and then having to do the farmhouse in nasty weather. I have just been like a squirrel in a nest these days. I don't go out for anything unless I absolutely have to.

I did go out to the woodpile yesterday and even used the splitting maul on some green logs. They split very easily and make the fire last a lot longer, so we aren't burning up our dry wood as quickly. I also got about 15 minutes of cardio! I can really feel how sedentary I've been.

Well, no Wii for us today. Shelby walked over to DS1's house to visit with her cousin and help them with their chores (supposedly)--I think they spent more time fooling around than anything else. Mary and I stayed here and puttered. She read and I knitted. We got the laundry caught up but didn't get the guest beds put back together. I just had them walk up to their house and stoke up the fire so the house will be warm when their parents get home. I'm sure they'll be pretty late.

Dianne, your DD should be back in CA by now, I suppose. Do they fly into San Francisco? I seem to remember that she lived near the Bay area. I know you had them for a few days, but it sure seemed to go fast--I'm sure it felt that way to you too.

Betsy, I sure hope you find DH's medal. It's such a sad thing to lose something special. Be sure to check those pockets, like Lindie suggested. I always put my stuff into my pockets when I have to take them off, so maybe he did too.

I just heard from DS. He let me know that they are still working on things and that it's taken Steve all day long to gather the parts he needed to change Mom's bathroom fixtures. I guess there was some corrosion on the pipes and they had to run all over town to find the pieces he needed to have to change things. I'm SOOOO glad I stayed home! So, it looks like it's just me and the girls again tonight. Maybe we'll play some cards.

Betsy, check pockets, usually when someone has to take that off, the attendant gives it back or puts it where it can be retrieved. Might be in a pants pocket maybe? I would put something I value in mine.

Glad you had a good time today, and hope you have a good evening as well.

Dianne, that cold from the feet in the water?? I hope you can get a head of it with a good nights sleep, BUT stress can mimick so many things, so maybe you feel that way because of the stress of family leaving, it is stressful... hope you feel better tomorrow ..

Cathy you box is ready to go, your gonna love what I am sending - and one is to be opened last no matter how much you shake it. The pressies for reaghann is so you and her can colour together and some other stuff very special, her's is in the Cinderella wrap, yours in another. Just things I have been collecting all year for ya ...

Soup and Salad for dinner tonite, not the turkey soup, that will be later ... have a good one all !!

Home from the candlelight reception at the farmhouse. It was rainy so didn't have to shovel! We had a great turn out--at least 25 people and over $70 in donations! DD3 and another friend did the fire and hot cider so it was nice for me--I had a break.

DD1's plane took off a bit late but they seem to be making up the time. Their connection is now on-time--was delayed earlier.

DD3 and I went out shopping a bit when DD1 left--I was sad and needed to do something. So we got equipment needed by DD3 so she can play broomball at college--mainly knee and elbow pads. Think hockey without skates, with a playground sized ball and brooms! I also got gifts for niece and nephews for next year and 2 more wreathe hangers that I liked. And I got another 2013 calendar--I may use this one! Didn't like the first one I got at all but it was the best I had seen--it was also a whole $1.

We finished another leftover tonight for supper. I am thinking early to bed tonight--I can feel a cold coming on.

We just completed TWO fun things! I got lunch for everyone who wanted it from Subway and then we watched the DVD,"The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel." It was very good and had Dame Judy Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy and more. I also rented , "Butter" but our machine wouldn't load it. "Butter" is supposed to be about butter carving in Iowa and stars Jennifer
Garner. My family thinks I am crazy but it looked interesting.

There is a Mass for Megan at 8 AM tomorrow so I will be taking DD2 to that. DH says he will go if he is awake and I told him I will be the judge of that. He has a bad habit of doing too much too fast and he does not need a setback. He was very upset today when he realized he took his religious medal necklace off for the x ray yesterday and did not remember to put it back on. It is very special to him because the mother of a friend of ours had it blessed by the pope for him. I called the clinic and they looked but no luck. I thought if I went there and looked myself I might find it because I know what I am looking for. She would not let me in due to privacy. I seriously thought about fake breaking my finger just so I could get in there but I didn't. I said they could go with me but she would not let me back there for anything.

It is time to put in load five of laundry and get the ham in the oven. In case I don't get back here, have a good night everyone.

I am still searching for something for you---it has to say "Lindie" to me---maybe I will go out tomorrow---need to get it in the mail to you. Are you going to be home on your birthday? She has always been that way to my mom---the few times she has gone over there, Shari never even speaks to her. Reagann is napping.

Some people just are not morning people, but I am , I am crankier in the afternoon - I still think Shari has unresolved issues that are surfacing that she is ignoring ... no one is intentionally in a bad mood all the time, which means she is choosing to be in a bad mood, so something is bothering her that a bad mood fits better then dealing with the issues. That's too bad ..

Yea I do have to bite my tongue a lot with my one daughter, I have to wait till she broaches the subject and then I still have to tread carefully.... she will be here Monday but will be staying with her sister ... we will see how that plays out ...

ARE you and Regann having fun? I need to wrap the things i got her, stickers mostly, does she like dinosaurs? lol - need to wrap yours to and get it in the mail by the 16th ...

Reagann was not up when I got there---actually, Shari usually leaves before she gets up anyhow---and she is even more not friendly in the mornings---even when we were not having issues---but as much as she stresses to Reagann about being polite, she seems to have no qualms about being rude herself. We did speak to her on Christmas Eve---she just did not respond.
Yes, hard to bite one's tongue---but your dd has to live with how he is---and she has played a part in it---nothing you can do about it now. Glad your soup turned out well.

Its a lovely day in the neighbourhood - well actually - its raining on and off which means NO snow emoticon or ice or anything like that.

Got up and used my light for 30 minutes, not sure if its helping or not. Only time will tell.

Cathy have fun with Reaghann today -but I feel a need ( out of love ) to caution your interaction ( or lack) with Shari, eventually your distain and dislike for her will be noticed by Reaghann and dispite how you feel about her child rearing skills, she's still Reaghann's mom and Reaghann obviously loves her mom - I know it might be hard, but you might want to put your distain aside especially in front of Reaghann. My only concern is that Reaghann will play on that one day. Here's an example. My daughter and her ex exchange unpleasantries all the time in front of my grandson. He has learnt to manipulate both of them to his advantage. He recently received a cell phone from his mom. He was told to go down stairs to clean up with his sister. He went down stairs and sent his dad a text message that he was ready to go home, his dad came and got him. He never helped his sister clean up the down stairs and his dad took him home. Personally, I would have told his dad to go have coffee and come back when Chris had cleaned the basement - but his mom let him go with this warning that if he did that again, he would loose his phone. Course then his dad would get him one. Chris is well aware of the animosity between the parents and plays on it constantly to his advantage, he is one spoiled and selfish boy that I would love to give a royal spanking to... but of course I say nothing because I do not interact with him. But I did mention to my daughter had I been there that day, his fanny would have been marched down to the basement - and his dad told to bugger untill the kid did his share ... there are many times I have had to bite my lip to keep from saying something to Danielle and now its all coming home to roost and I doubt saying I told you so would help.... blended familes can work well at times, but most times they do not ...

Guns - there will always be two sides to each should or should not - my daughters and my son both know how to shoot FM's and other guns, from their training in Cadets - I know nothing except that I was once told by an american friend that if you pull it, use it, the penalty is the same. Perhaps its the gun laws that need to be addressed. Bearing arms for your country is one thing, bearing them for personal pleasure is another. I can see in Terri's case where she actually needed that for protection, not pleasure - of all the countries in the world, USA has the highest fatalities due to guns ... Most teachers are NOT military trained, so they would NOT have the best knowledge of using the gun never mind putting it in a safe place. I doubt teachers with guns would have prevented what happened with the school in CT - that young man was on a mission of self destruction taking anyone and everyone with him - he was trained how to use those guns... Canada's gun laws are a whole lot more reserved, but we do have incedences so we are not immune to fatalities by guns - we have an anniversary date every year for the women who were gunned down by another student some years ago in Montreal.

Turkey soup was done last night, even with the rice, which at first soaked up almost all my broth, so I made more and then got about 8 2.5 cups of soup in each container, I can give some to Gene too. Today I am not cooking or anything I cleaned up my recycling which was growing out from under the sink, cleaned the cat litter, and now have to clean up my living room.

Got a parcel from my sister in law. The post office gave me a first notice AND final notice on the same day !!! I don't even want to go there with the postal service these days. My friend sent me something around the first week of DEC and I NEVER got it -- at least not yet.

I sure hope everyone has a good day and sorry for rambling but sometimes I need to say something ... Enjoy your Saturday !!

Dianne, hope if their flight is canceled they find out before they head to the airport---nice if you can have them a bit longer. No fun if you have to shovel clothes in colonial dress----will you cancel it if too much snow?

Terri, Good advice for Betsy to take a gun safety course. The only comment I have on your statements is that no one needs to own an assault weapon that fires multiple shots---but I do agree one should have the right to bear arms. Hope you are all stocked up til your next paycheck? surprised his retirement check will take that long to be processed. How did you like the Hobbit? Glad your mom is moved and hope she likes the new house
Lindie, yes, the broth was fine to use---hope your soup turned out delicious---sounds like that sun lamp is helping. How come you are off for 7 days? Just because your birthday is coming up is no reason to be a slacker---LOL
Dianne, you know she has to be ready to do it for herself--but you are a good role model for her.
Betsy, I love musicals and would love to see it if I can find someone to go to it---hmmm---wonder if the Red Hat ladies are planning on going to it. I need to call or email and ask.
Have Reagann all day---first time since October---when I got over there I just went to the computer room---did speak to Andrew---but Shari left and did not say a word. We have colored her new pictures and now she is playing with my house collection---I told her she could move the people around where ever she wants. Michael and Taylar have presents for her to open once Taylar gets over here---one of them is Princess CandyLand---I can't wait to play it with her.
Today's Challenge---Do something fun today!

Morning! We are expecting snow today--and of course DD1 and her hubby leave for CA. Not sure what is going to happen. And I work the candlelight reception today from 4-6 at the farmhouse so need to dress colonial and likely shovel snow!

I stepped on the scale and am up 10 pounds. I know it is "water and..." weight but I still need to get rid of it. So--I am for sure aiming at the 4 by 2/2--maybe I can do better!

Terri--I did grow up with guns around as well--but too many people use them for ill and NO ONE needs an assault rifle! I have tried skeet shooting--would need lots more practice to really do it.

I hope your mom is finally settled!!

Betsy--I sure hope DH is starting to feel LOTS better. He may be out the first few days of January! He'd better start thinking that way!

I finally caught up with everyone's news (again) but it's after 9 pm and I can't respond to everything now. We had a nice time on the coast yesterday--went to put Steve's FINAL paycheck in the bank, checked on a bike rack for our new bicycles (gifts from DS2), had dinner at our favorite BBQ place and went to see The Hobbit.

Today, Steve went with DS1 to Mom's to help get her moved into her new house. Jenny & dSIL had gone over earlier, so they're all there to help. I'm staying home with the teenagers who didn't want to do the 2 hr drive over and back. Fortunately, Mom got some local help to finish moving all the big stuff, so they won't be doing any of that. She said that she needs help changing the locks on the doors, changing the door knobs on the interior doors (or some of them), changing the faucets in the bathrooms, and Jenny and the little girls (Anna and Lily) can help find the linens and make up the beds and maybe unpack some boxes. I really hope this is the last time we have to move Mom for quite a while!

Betsy, I'm concerned about your dh--that doesn't sound good at all! Those were good questions you asked Carol, too. I'm interested to see what she has to say. I'm glad you got the family photo done and hope you're happy with it. Be sure to post the link if your photographer puts them on her blog. I'd like to see your family :)

Dianne, I want to see your picture at the pond, too. Poor thing, getting your feet wet in the middle of winter! I probably would've fallen in up to my neck =/ Way to put your DDs' shopping time to good use, too. ;-)

I seriously need to get back on track. I haven't exercised consistently since I started canning in September! Taking those college classes were at least good for keeping me active when I was able to take PE classes. We don't have a gym anywhere near us, so I'm going to have to work out at home when I do it. I would like to lose 10 lbs by Feb. 16th (my birthday) because I think that's about what I've gained. That might be too ambitious, but I'll shoot for that and see how close I get.

We are going to have to be VERY careful with $ around here because we won't get another paycheck until Feb. at the earliest and it may be longer than that. I'm thinking that we'll be getting a modest tax refund (unless things change) so, if we file early, we might have that in January. It depends on when we get Steve's W2's.

I guess I'm the team dissenter on the gun issue. I grew up with guns in the house and so did Steve. Both our dads and all of our uncles and cousins were hunters and/or veterans and we love wild game. I have cousins in law enforcement too. I am a little out of practice, but I have used a rifle on multiple occasions for target practice, to kill predators who were after our livestock, and once even used it to warn off some young men who were trespassing on our property when I was home alone with a toddler and a newborn. They were out for a joy ride and I suspect that they were drinking. The road ended at our house and they drove right up into our field and nearly took out our fence. They asked for directions to some road that I was unfamiliar with and I told them to go back the way they had come because they were on private land. One of them got out of the Jeep and started to walk toward the house, asking if I would draw him a map--I showed him the rifle and told him to go back the way he had come. He did, and then I sat there shaking for about an hour, thankful that nothing had happened. We had no phone and our nearest neighbor was over a mile away--it was just me and my babies at the end of a dirt road.

I seriously believe that there is a movement underfoot to disarm the citizenry of the U.S. and that can't be good. I get that people are afraid of guns or just don't like them--but the guns themselves aren't any more dangerous than a lot of things that we all use every day. Betsy, if I may be so bold, I suggest that you familiarize yourself with your DH's firearm. Take a gun-safety course and go with him to the shooting range and shoot some targets. The more familiar you are with it, the less you will fear it. There have been a great many times that crimes have been averted by an armed citizen but all we hear about are the crimes committed by the armed lunatics who were not stopped until the police FINALLY got there. Personally, I would feel a lot safer if your husband was my child's teacher, knowing that he was equipped to protect the children in his charge.

Okay, I was going to put in my .02 worth, but I guess that's more like a nickel...

It's now nearly 11:00 so I'd better be off to bed. Hopefully, I'll see you all in the morning.

I've been reading the posts while at work - its been a long but good day and now I am off for like 7 days yeaaaa !!!

I would like to join the challenge for 4 lbs by 2/2/13 but I have been told to focus on other things then weight at this time.. so I will pass on that but will try to encourage you all to do the best you can do at the time you can do it.

Cathy, remember that pedometer I sent you that fits in a pocket ? WELL my friend made a holder for hers and she used it when she was at work and it worked like a charm, so maybe you can make a holder for yours. My neice has one and lives by it, literally - if she has a poor day she is depressed all day, so use it as one of many measure and don't sweat the slower days, we all have them - dont' get hooked into the feed back ..

Dianne, your daughter is not ready yet, or she would make time, she has not reached that point in her life where its a matter of now or never - she needs to get there first, but you can set the example, but doing 10 min or 5 min here and there while watching tv, or doing other activities with the family - for example, weights are easy enough and strength exercises are just as important as cardio. You can run up and down stairs if you have them, I know I get good cardio doing my laundry ... so I am sure you will come up with ways to show her, but basically she does have to want it bad enough, and right now she does not .. she is happy with herself right now .. we've all been there ...

Betsy, I do hope your DH gets better, I would think that if you doubt the diagnosis you could go to another clinic and see if the results are the same, you are right, others would come down with the influenza depending on when the breeding/spreading time is ... here's hoping your DH gets a good nights sleep. So Les was good eh?

Carol, hope your still having fun with your family.

Anne, I know you won't be back till after the weekend, but just incase your reading, hope your enjoying your time as well.

Used the light again this morning, and of course the minute I sit on the futon, the cat is there rubbing and purring. The light is so bright he can't see so I try to get him to look away - 30 minutes a day - its changing how I start my day !!

I met my sister at the mall as its time to renew insurance and the guy kept asking her questions and she kept saying nothings changed. He asked her again for a yes or no answer and she stated nothings changed. So I piped up and said, he has to ask these questions, so give him the right answer or we will be here all night. He got frustrated with her and told her nothings changed is not an option.. LOL .. I started answering for her yes or no ... then we made the payment for Jan so now we don't have to pay till FEB and its gone up 3 bux so she's not happy bout that but I knew it would go up. And since she knows she might be laid off soon, she's done nothing to have a contingency fund .. betting she thinks I am gonna float her.. yea to the moon maybe. I'll just take the car then ... if she was with the car company they would seize the car for non payment... we will see what happens.

I am making my turkey soup tonite, never got to it so I think its ok, we did the turkey on tuesday .. the rest of the turkey is in the freezer .. I got some spices to add to it .. smells good and I added veggies and rice !

Well I should wrap this up, hello to anyone I did not mention personally. Have a good one !

I agree, the treats need to go BUT I can't get rid of them until the company is gone. Carolyn is the only one staying here but DS has friends dropping in and I like to have things to offer them. Nate too!

DH survived the three hours without us while we were at the amazing movie. If you love musicals, go, if not, don't, that is my advice. The albuterol perked DH up a LITTLE bit for a LITTLE while and he didn't ask for more until it was only eight minutes until he could have it. He needs me to keep track of when he takes what in the daytime so I hope he does OK in the night. I am fairly certain he will not make it through the night without needing the inhaler.

It snowed all day and is supposed to do the same tomorrow so we get dd1 for "one day more." Sorry, inside joke to people who like "Les Mis." There was a preview for "The Great Gatsby" and it looked pretty good too.

DH is asleep but I am going to check on him as it has been 4 hours since his last inhaler. Have a great night.

The cake did not taste any different flavor so I am thinking food coloring--it was teal!! As I cut it, the blue crumbs were showing--quite unexpected! Tasted too good. LOL

I think 4 pounds by 2/2/13 would work--that is 5 weeks from tomorrow. I just need to STOP EATING TREATS and I think I'll be fine! The "how" will be different for each of us--but let's make it a challenge--weigh in once a week and report? At least starting at 0 and moving to -4 so no one has to say anything else. I am willing to suggest exercises or challenge like 10 minute walk or 5 trips up/down stairs for each day if that would help.

My DD1 wants to lose weight but doesn't have time. I know the exercise does take time but the little things add up and don't take time. Can't convince her to try, however. sigh

Dianne, that carousel cake sounds interesting---wonder what they did to us---definitely blue food coloring?

I am in with you on 4 lbs by Feb. 1---figure out what you gals want to do and I will put it as the exercise challenge for January.
Would think the black spot is a sign of infection in the lungs so that is why the z pack---good thing you went---does not sound like the flu to me.

Sounds good to me, Dianne. emoticon

Carol, you are too funny with the fitbit on the bra question emoticon

Cathy, you should write to the Fitbit company and suggest they work on a waterproof version. emoticon

We spent 2 hours at the walk in clinic this morning and DH got right in. They took an x ray and there was a black spot on his lung. emoticon He said they told him that was a sign of influenza, gave him a prescription for the z pack and an inhaler and told him he should be feeling better in 48 hours. If not, he needs to come back in. Carol, perhaps you can answer my questions that he could not. The flu is not supposed to be treatable with antibiotics so why did he get one? The flu is extremely contagious so why aren't we ( knock on wood LOUDLY) sick? Since it is so contagious often family members are given medication as a preventative but it was not offered. Wouldn't a black spot on the lung be more of a sign or bronchitis or pneumonia?

Yes Carol, DH often grocery shops with me and we ALWAYS get the expensive stuff from the deli. He doesn't even look at the price but I do. He has gotten better but will still ask periodically where all our money went. My response is usually, " Do you really want to know?"

DD1 returned safely and her comments about the English brunch ( college grads '08) were quite amusing. My favorite was that many of them were discussing home mortgages and one of them commented, " How did this happen? When did we grow up?"

I need to go figure out supper so we can eat early and get to the theater for the movie. Have a great night.

Betsy--I will be happy to set a goal or two with you--maybe step ups on the bottom step in 5 minute increments and/or down 4 pounds by Feb 1 and/or 8 glasses of water a day--I may need to go back to the BASICS.

I don't want the candy but can't pitch it either. And DH's sister (in Afghanistan) sent us a really good cake -- a Carousel cake -- bright blue inside with WONDERFUL rich frosting.... At least that is gone now!

I did crawl out of bed and went to the gym. Did feel good after I got there! My glutes hurt--just worked too hard yesterday.

DDs and SIL went out for lunch to Saladworks--fresh made salads that you can customize. They also hit Michaels and got paints and canvas for $2 each! Had fun. SInce they were all gone, WE had some fun, too!! LOL

Now 2 are watching TV, the dishwasher is running (need to do more often with so many here) and DD1 and SIL went to the cemetery so DD1 can visit her HS friend who was killed in a car accident in 03. She has her ticket stub from the Hobbit to give to her. That was a REALLY tough week....

Betsy--go glad the photos are taken! They will be wonderful, even with sick people and shabby coats. My favorite family photo has the dog front and center! And gald you got the collectibles
"on sale". That is great! Hope DH is feeling lots better and you got to the doctor's without trouble.

Carol-- I believe our food pantry will take cookies and of course the police/fire stations are a great idea. Tonight we are having leftovers here--don't tell my MIL or she won't let me have my turn! LOL The kids both say they ate WAY too much at her house!

Cathy--I did get to the gym today but my pedometer numbers have been very bad. No way have I been even close to 10,000!

Lindie--I will have to put the photo up of me on the overflow pipe. I know the water is pretty good--we net in it for critters in the spring. I just hope someone gets down there for a more complete fix cause me standing on it won't work forever! My foot got a bit wet but warmed up okay as soon as we got home.

Carol, and what was dh's answer to that? LOL---but it was one of the suggestions on where to wear it. Wish I could wear it when I do water aerobics! I am just keeping mine in my pocket but I did attach it to my pj bottoms this morning before I got dressed. Just sometimes I don' t have a pocket. One of the reasons I got my older 2 sons a matching tie for Christmas and my oldest a black shirt and told Andy he needs a black shirt for the wedding. I did say that I was wearing purple and so is dh---I could care less what Shari wears---actually hoping she does not want to be in the pictures--would love for Reagann to be in pink or purple but not saying anything about it---not trying to make waves with her. I know our shelter that houses families takes food deliveries ---actually planning on taking rest of wedding cake to them after the wedding---need to check how late we can take it over or if need to wait til next morning. My Fitbit is tiny---actually smaller than regular pedometer but has this rubber shell to put it in that makes it the same size as most pedometers and the clip seems more sturdier type---way it is made it should not break. The cat scan is of her intestines--she has to drink this stuff an hour before the procedure. Too bad about the ham not being cooked til Sunday---I know I have plenty left and I only cooked half of the small butt I bought.
Cleaned my bathroom and washed dishes this morning. Trying to keep active but hard to do when most things are neatened up already---only thing that needs to be done is pack away the Christmas stuff.

Cathy -- I'll have to check out if our local shelters would take baked goods after everyone's gone from here!!! I didn't know they'd do that... Lindie mentioned donating food also BUT none of what we have is canned or "non-perishable"... But we DO actually donate to our local food pantry all throughout the year - the grocery store I shop in regularly has these "gift card" things - they're cardboard like -- you can take them to the register and scan them to make a $10 donation to the food pantry. Then our store packs up the goods and brings them over in whatever amount was donated that week etc... It's SO nice because it makes it easy and convenient! And usually when you're buying groceries, what's another $10 added on??!!!

The OTHER thing I might do is run some over to our local fire station -- or the vet's office... I'm sure they were inundated with stuff BEFORE the holidays -- but maybe by next Monday they won't have many "goodies" left anymore!!

Sorry Lindie that you're back at work -- ESPECIALLY when the rest of us are being such lazy bums yet!! LOL....

That's TOO FUNNY Cathy -- you got a picture with a tongue sticking out, huh?!! I don't have that on my FitBit! It just has this flower that will "grow" the more active you are. Can be discouraging though -- because it'll start getting a long stem and leaves WHILE you're being active -- but then if you end up sitting at all, it goes back down -- EVEN though you TOTAL for the day might have been really good etc!

It can be a little disheartening too when you do stupid things like I did that one day by forgetting to put it on!!!! It throws ALL your numbers off -- your average for the week, and of COURSE it was my "least active day" -- with a SAD face -- when in reality it was one of my MOST active days!! DARN thing! LOL... I'm VERY mental though -- so have to work on NOT letting stuff like that get to me...

What type of clip DOES your FitBit have on it?? How are you supposed to attach it usually?? I think wearing it on a bra would be weird too - although that leads me to a question for all of you....

SO if I would wear my fit bit on my bra, do you think I'd get TWICE as many steps recorded since I'd have TWO boobs bouncing around???!!!!! emoticon

That was MY response when I read that the first time -- I asked my dh that question!!

Hope your mom's procedure goes well! Keep us posted on what you find out...

Betsy -- SO sorry DH is feeling SO bad yet! Doesn't sound good when he's talking about his lungs and chills....!!! Poor thing is going to spend his vacation sick!

The portrait session sounds WONDERFUL! Can't WAIT to see some of the pics!!!! It's so neat that you did that!

As for the white shirts etc -- didn't really mean white in particular -- just meant all the same color -- whatever that might have been -- along with jeans... Something to look kind of "uniform" yet different. I can see where you guys would NOT look good in white! I don't like wearing white (ironic when I'm a nurse -- although I don't wear white anymore at work but used to...!) -- but my whole family has dark hair -- so we look decent in it - just not my first choice. And I NEVER would have put us in jeans for a portrait (although my Mom wore a denim skirt)!! But it ended up looking nice -which surprised me! Although we had the pics taken on the beach though too -- so jeans "fit"... Anyway -- sounds like your pics are going to be AWESOME!!!!

Glad you got back to that shop for more Santas - LOVE the idea of the "Europe" one!! How COOL is that???!! SO appropriate!

Does your DH ever do the grocery shopping?? Was wondering if he has an appreciation for just HOW expensive lunchmeat IS??!!! YIKES -- a sandwich EVERY day huh?! Although my DH probably eats one ALMOST every day -- but he'll eat PB -- and he'll eat one brand of the packaged lunch meat that's sliced REALLY thin -- so he doesn't go through a ton of it -- but he DOES pile it on at times! What's funny is that MY dh recently picked up some lunchmeat from the store -- and HE commented about how pricey it was!!

Yesterday though I went to the deli to get the "good stuff"...and I bought two kinds that were on sale -- and even THEN it was $$!! Of course, when you're feeding 11 people for 4 days, you need ALOT of it! It's too bad we're not having our "Christmas dinner" til Sunday... I got a ham -- which we'll probably have leftovers from -- that we COULD have used for sandwiches in the meantime! Oh well...

Betsy, sounds like he really needs to go in---hope you can get in or do you go to a walk-in place? I actually like them better when one is sick as it is often easier to get in to them than to a "regular" doctor. I am thinking stairs would not be that bad---even doing step aerobics on the bottom one would work---put in a good pacing song and go for it---doing 10 minutes several times a day might also work in your schedule better anyhow. And like you, wish I could walk more often---but I am going to do it---plan on walking in the building after work if nothing else---we have a really long building because of the CTE wing---going to take a pair of shoes in and keep those there just for that---and I can get in a walk before I set up for basketball---have about half an hour to kill on those nights, anyhow. LOL on that sweater. Hope dd1 has safe travels today and your dh gets taken care of .

Oh dear, it is snowing and dd1 is supposed to drive for a few hours today....twice.

At 3 AM DH asked if I was awake and I responded positively and asked him what he needed. He said, " I think I need to go in tomorrow. It feels like my lungs are filling with fluid and I can't get rid of these chills." Normally I have to DRAG him to the doctor so now I know he is REALLY sick. He was asleep on the couch when I came downstairs but I am sure I will be driving him later this morning.

Cathy, I hope the cat scan for your mother goes well.
I have been ready to move for a long time but the darn shoulder prevents a lot of things. A walking routine could/should be started again but it is icy outside and the gym will be super full with people trying to lose holiday pounds and achieve resolutions. It looks like the stars in my house will have to do for a while.
DD1 commented she didn't have a lot of room to move or place things in her bedroom and I told her that was because her stuff was still there. Yesterday she hauled out baskets on her own and we had fun going through them. I plan to get through the remnants before the second of January because I KNOW I am going to be exhausted at night while going through the transition of adding the two boys to day care.

Cathy, Steven hasn't shaved for a while and that is his typical look so I just went with it. If I had known we were going to be photographed outside WITH coats i probably would have bought him a new one but his coat is part of who he is too. He takes a long time to find something he likes and once he does he has trouble parting with it. I HID a sweater with holes in the arms or he would still be wearing that too. He still keeps opposite hours so his appearance at 2 PM for the shoot was like any of the rest of us appearing at 3 or 4 AM. He did wear the new shoes I got him without prompt so that is a plus.

Anne, I hope you are still enjoying time with your family. Was it your family that was taking Tamiflu? If so, how is everyone now?

Dianne, I don't like our scale either but I do understand it is MY fault that I don't like it. Once our families have left and we have given away all the extra goodies it will get better. If you want to do an "I need to lose X pounds by ?, " I am up for it, just let me know.

Carol, how was your Christmas with extended family? How long will they be there?

DD1 just came down so I think I will go have breakfast with her while I still can. have a great day!

Good morning, my fellow Sparklers emoticon Are you ready to get active again? I sure am---but brrrrr, the wind chill here is not condusive to going outside for much.
Carol, glad your parents got there safely---if there is a local homeless shelter that feeds them meals, you might want to take extra cookies there for them---they often pack them a lunch when they send them out for the day or could use them with dinner. You must have a long fitbit to have a wrist band for it. I would like to have a band that the small one would fit in---sometimes I don't have pockets---esp. skirts---and clipping it to my bra seems a bit strange. I got a picture with tongue stuck out yesterday---because I did not do that much after Michael got it set up for me---LOL---did all my chores done earlier. Hoping I get a better symbol today.
Betsy, glad you got the pictures taken---I would have been mad at Stephen for not shaving for the pictures. Good buy on those new Santas---can't pass up those kind of buys on those collectibles. Great going on getting your dd1 to sort thru that stuff---now make sure you get to them after she leaves and decide what to do with what she leaves.
Lindie, I usually do put most of my stuff away on New Year's Day as I go back to work the next day---but thinking I might just start this weekend---already packed up my Christmas clothes and socks to be put away.
Today's challenge---pick a spot to declutter/clean/put away? Maybe under the tree stuff?
Today I am taking my mom to the hospital for another procedure---and then I have Reagann all day tomorrow---so actually have stuff to do---and Michael and Taylar are going to give her their presents.
Hope everyone has a good day!

Work Day today, so it was busy this morning and then slowed down this afternoon enough for me to read posts and catch up - I have nothing to put away xmas wise as I never put much out. Have some wrap I need to pick up - once Kartmen is done playing with it.

Carol, glad your parents arrived safe and sound and here's hoping they get home that way too. Some people just have to chance it and travel, the need is that great ! If you have canned foods and etc you can always donate to your local food bank, they can't take parishables but they can take the rest - or to your church's food bank if they have one, I am sure there are peeps in need.

Betsy, glad you got that pic done today with the family, you want it to be realistic anyway so kudos on letting your family be themselves. I hate it when Dani wants Charise to "make up" its a false face as far as I am concerned, but that is her choice. Sounds like Kathryn is not ready to settle down and had no problem being away from Nate. Only time will tell where that will lead.

Dianne, I sure hope you do not get sick from that water business - my goodness, guess you were already wet, I would have worried about falling in all together and who knows what kind of germs is in that water !! Glad you had a good time with family.

Cathy, it must be hard to have all your displays and what not put away so soon, but good idea since the wedding is around the corner. I wonder if after the wedding Taylar will spend that much time with her family, or if it was just the season, might have to get used to her ditating that once they are married, and that is the hardest part is letting go... I am making soup tomorrow night so I'll clean the fridge out then. My freezer has an odour so something has to go ... tomorrow after work of course...

Anne glad you also are enjoying good times with your family. When do you go back to work?

Well speaking of work, I'll be going back tomorrow and then off for a wonderful week of R&R !!

Dianne, if DD is selling cards individually, your prices sound great. If they are packaged I wouldn't go over $5, maybe a bonus of 6 for 5 or something like that. Where is she selling them? What do they look like?

You got great deals at Michael's! emoticon

DH was/is still not feeling well but he made it through the portrait session. The kids and I put coats and scarves on and went outside for a shot on the porch that was neat. The photographer liked it a lot and thought it would be even better with DH in it so I went and got him for a quick family shot outside. Originally she had said only scarves and gloves but since we all had jackets or coats it wasn't so bad. Steven was his typical non smiling self and his coat has seen better days but that's him so I let it slide. Same goes for the not shaved face. Sarah did do a shot of just the girls so I am anxious to see that. She also took shots of just Jay and I in addition to indoor shots of the whole family. I gave her permission to post some on her blog so when they go up I will let you know.

Carol, Nate's parents do think Kathryn is a keeper! They said so after the first time she spent a few hours there. She is definitely an understanding gf. She was supposed to be with Nate until 11 tonight but he dropped her off at 10:30 because a friend of his ( 20 years old with a pregnant gf, not married) called and needed him. She said it was fine because Nate didn't get a lot of time with his guy friends, Zach ( dad to be) needed him and Zach is going to be a dad soon and have no free time. I thought that was pretty nice of her because they typically see each other only on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Dianne, were you freezing with that drenched foot? I hope they can fix the water problem soon.

Cathy, I don't blame you for wanting to clean up Christmas decorations with the wedding so close. My fridge is still full of food but I did move things from large containers into smaller ones.

Terri, what kind of brunch casserole did you make? It is hard to imagine you had any leftovers!

I got to the shop that sells my Santas today and found one that is called "Europe" so I bought it for next year. One that is painting a train and one in a leather jacket holding a teddy bear were also purchased for next year......and all three for the price of one new one!

Carol, DH eats a sandwich at school every day and ALWAYS uses lunch meat so I KNOW how expensive it is. I love it when we make a whole chicken and he can use that instead. Oh, I almost forgot you asked about wearing white for the portrait a while back. DS and I are pretty pale so that probably wouldn't work. All of us except DS have more dress clothes that we'd like for a photo so we had to scramble to find dress casual in solid dark rich colors but we did it.

Since DH is still so sick I took the fireplace door in and was told we could get a special kind of glass that would not break but it cost more. How much more? He didn't know! You would think there would be a listing or a person to call but there was not. He finally took my name and number and we learned that to replace BOTH doors would be nearly $500 OR we could replace the broken one only for $56. Guess which offer we took?

DD1 is going to meet with several of her fellow English grads in another city for brunch tomorrow and we are finally gating to Les Mis when she gets back. If DH is still sick we are going without him because DD1 is leaving us on Saturday emoticon It is hard to believe she has been here for a week already! Cathy, you will be pleased to know that she went through several baskets of stuff from her room and sorted what she is taking back with her and what stays here for me to go through and do as I please with it. The guest room will eventually be clutter free! emoticon

It is after 11 and I promised to call a friend in the morning so I better get to bed . emoticon

My parents arrived safely - so thankful!

Anne -- enjoy your Tom & Ashley time!!

Betsy -- sounds like Nate's family was VERY generous with Kathryn!! Am sure she appreciate it! She must have REALLY impressed them -- sounds like they think she's a 'keeper'! LOL....

Cathy -- yep -- DH is off this week (as of Monday) -- until Dec 31st now... And once again --- CREEPY with the "challenge" -- I cleaned out my frig BEFORE I read that was today's "thing to do"!!

I've only seen pics of the green FitBit -- but I thought it was kind of a cool color! I got the one they are discontinuing -- was cheaper from Amazon -- which is why I finally "splurged" and got it! Wearing it at night isn't so bad -- mine has a REALLY soft wristband type thing to put the FitBit in/on... Not exactly sure HOW that works to monitor your sleep but it did... I do NOT wear it every night though... I did for about 2 weeks when I first got it -- but after awhile it wasn't really showing me much -- so stopped wearing it....

Dianne - we play Racko at our house too! It's "easy" but CAN be hard to win -- really have to be strategic... That's an OLD game -- we used to play it during the summer when we'd stay at my grandparents cottage when we were kids!

Sorry to hear about the flooding in your area! Probably same storm system that hit us -- but since you're warmer, it was rain for you guys vs. snow for us!

I'm not the person to give feedback about what DD should charge for cards she's making...not sure what the "going rate" would be... Although most cards in the store are at LEAST $1.99 -- and MOST are way more than THAT -- so would think 80 cents to $1.00 would be MORE than appropriate! Personally I'd probably keep them around that just to sell more vs. charging a tad more then not sell as many....

We have WAY too much food in my house right now!! My parents ended up bringing a bunch of stuff too that I was NOT expecting -- a good family friend sent a HUGE tin of cookies plus my Aunt & Uncle sent a huge tin of cookies! I already told them to be ready to bring a bunch of stuff back HOME with them! Especially since they tend to "entertain" friends a fair amount -- so they could USE it. Guess I may end up passing a bunch of stuff on to my neighbors otherwise...

Geez Louise -- I RARELY buy lunchmeat -- but bought some today for us to have "lunch foods" in the house and MAN was it EXPENSIVE!!! Had NO idea! Good thing we don't eat alot of it on a regular basis! LOL...

I'd better go -- need to pick up some, fold some laundry and unload the dishwasher...plus do a little more Sparking... Have a good night everyone!

I expect Christmas will stay up till 1/9 or 10--get DD3 to help take down the tree and then I'll get the rest down with DD2's help that weekend. We didn't put stuff up till late. I have some winter sweaters that I will wear for awhile--hate to put them away already.

DD2 is busy making cards--note cards, thank you cards, etc--fit in 4 3/8 x 5 3/4 envelopes. How much should she charge? I am thinking eighty cents to a dollar each--thoughts?

We hit Michael's today--looking for some invitation envelopes--turns out we got them at Staples! So need to stop there or order on-line. I did get 2 wreathe hangers--one cost $0.01 since it was last year's! The second was $2. Got paper for next year's Christmas letter and some stamps for DD2.

Also went by my work to show SIL the farmhouse. Gave him a quick tour and then visited the pond. The overflow pipe was FLOATING and the pond almost overflowing. So I walked out on it to get it to sink so the water could run--and slipped and got one shoe full of water. So took both shoes off and went back out to weight it for a bit--water was cold but not too bad! We got some logs to weight it down and I told the bosses about it so maybe the bungee cords will get attached again--we haven't had enough rain to be a problem till now.
