emoticon on converting the weird split, Patrick! I don't think I've left that combo yet.
Don't know the final placement for church league yet. The secretary for the past year was lousy and made lots of mistakes. I will not vote for her to do it next year. If we go again next year...
Looking forward to a quiet, uneventful weekend. Church has a bake sale, and that is all I am getting involved in. I'll make my cookies and let it go at that...

Tuesday night league results: 190, 208, and a 189 for a 587 series. Would have likely had a 600 series except for an ill-timed 6-7-10 split in the 10th frame of game 3! I did convert a very unusual split last evening -- one I don't recall even seeing, let alone make -- a 2-4-5-7-10 split!

Team-wise, we split, after getting pummeled in game 1, we won games 2 & 3 but lost series.

Today was good. A 413 series... 167-121-125. I will be grateful for a 137 average today. The last game I pulled a muscle in my right foot, and it was very painful to try to bowl. I was surprised i did as well as I did at the end.
Stats should come out tomorrow for the Church league.
May consider a No-Tap for summer...
Hope the week goes well for everyone! keep Sparkin' your days!

Last night was interesting... the other team did not show up. One of our subs did not show up. The absent team had "blind" scores put in, as did our team member that wasn't there. We won the first two games, lost the third by 14 pins, and won overall pin count. So, if we get 6 points, that will not be bad. I felt I bowled competently...125-158-125. I was taking down either 8 or 9 pins consistently, with some strikes. I think if I can keep getting a 136 average consistently, I will take a few coaching sessions to see if I can get to a 150 average or better. I think I have progressed well in the past three years. I will miss the Church league. But bowling every Monday will keep me in practice for the Fall.
My Sparking has been consistent, too. I'm not losing weight, but I have stayed at the same number for months. My doctor is happy... so I am, too!
Have a great week!

It's nice seeing all of you being consistent and bowling well. Last week I did not represent my teams or this one well. Averaged two opens per game both Thursday and Friday nights but went four of the six games without a double. There's no way to make up for an open frame without at least a double.

Thursday: 180 (one split)-165 (two splits)-156 (two missed spares and a 10th frame 5-7-10 on a pocket hit of all things) = 501. Team could have won all seven points instead of just two if I had bowled close to average. Dropped average three pins. Darn it!

Friday: 185 (one split)-156 (two spares, one split)- 174 (two spares) = 515. Team won five of seven.

Looking forward to a better performance tonight. -- Lou

Tuesday evening league results: 175, 242, and a 200 for a 617 series. Two weeks in a row with good scores -- WOOHOO!! What has been interesting is the fact that I have had to move right to get better results. Much of the season I have been standing on the 10th board and throwing to the 5th board. Now I am standing anywhere between the 5th and 8th board with a straight hook in vs the arcing hook I was throwing. Oh well, at least I am reacting to how the lanes are playing. That is progress!

Sadly, team-wise, we lost all 4. Our top bowler had an awful night, and we were up against a high handicap team that had one bowler on fire. Not a good combination!

Today was not bad... 140-121-127. My consistency is improving. Our last Church league session is Saturday. Positioning round. Sort of glad there will be a break until September.

Lou, I guess it helps to know what might be throwing your release off. It makes sense, though, that the cramps would make you pull back. Natural reaction...
Would heat, like one of those thermal patches, help it any?
Patrick, glad your team ended up winning those points! That shows you how we rely on computers, yet the computer does make it easier to keep the scores.
We bowl on the 11th for positioning rounds. We are in 8th place now. Our teammates will be out of town that night, and are supposed to have lined up subs. Whatever happens, happens. I'll be grateful wherever we place.
May everyone have a blessed Easter, or Passover if you celebrate either holy day. Looks like Spring has sprung here in NC. But then so has the pollen.. achoo!!

Last Friday team was 0-7 again. Not a lot of opens, just not enough strikes. 192 (one missed split)-182 (two missed spares)-160 (one missed splare and two splits) = 560, dropped average a pin.

Last weekend's City tournament scores aren't worth posting, they were that bad. But I may have found the reason for a flaw in my game of turning the ball early, causing me to pull the shots so often -- a fellow bowler said when he developed back problems he did the same thing because his back, as mine, would cramp as he let the ball go, causing him to straighten up and pull his shots. I asked if he found a way to compensate but he hasn't. So that's the next goal: be more aware of the cramping at release and stay behind the ball with knee bend. Let the cramps happen. Just don't let them throw my game off as they have done for almost two years.

Back at it tonight in Thursday league. -- emoticon -- Lou

emoticon BABSMOORE10300!!

Interesting evening last night for me and the team. My line: 245, 176, and a 215 for a 639 series! Had a good pocket line all evening. Only got into trouble when I slowed the ball down too much!

On the team side, it looked like we were going to lose 3 out of 4 until our team captain discovered an issue with the handicaps being used by the other team. What was on the scoring system was not the same as the official book averages, so once that was accounted for, we ended up winning 3 out of 4!! No fault of the other team...just that the house had failed to update their system!

We won all 8 points tonight. My game was consistent again... 127-164-117=408. I could handle a 136 average on a regular basis!
One more session to go, and it's a positioning round. Our teammates will be out of town, so I hope the subs are decent bowlers! DH is not sure if he wants to bowl next year. I hope to change his mind.
Monday will be another day to learn and practice!

Wow, lots of good news from you Patrick and Leah. Consistency is a worthy goal. Well done. And happy news about Tomas. Glad to hear it. emoticon

Forgot to post for Friday the 13th. With the scores that night that's no surprise. 204-153-145 = 502, seven missed spares and one missed split. Dropped average a pin. Team went 4-3.
*******
On Sunday the 15th we had our regular group practice. Was zipping along at a 197 pace until tiring in game six and ending the session at 188. With the track ball had 199-204-189 = 592. With the DV8 ball had 201-192-145 = 538 = 1130 for six games = 188 average.
*******
Last Friday the 20th had the purest game in two years. 228 with only one bad shot. Timing was perfect, the ball rolled off the fingers, and I hit my target. Felt so good. But then, 164-170 with no doubles either game and two missed spares each game for 562, raised average a pin but team went 0-7.
*******
No practice last Sunday, worked our association's annual city tournament.
*******
Rejoined Thursday night league for the last nine weeks. Had 1021 for first two weeks at start of season to start at 170. Tonight had 193-192-178 = 563 to raise average to 176, not great but will get better. Four missed spares and three missed splits. Team tied game one to go 1-6.
*******
I bowl doubles and singles in the City tournament this Saturday, working from 0730 until bowling at 2:00 then working the team center Sunday from 0830 till we bowl team at 10:00 then work it through after squad. Two long days. Doubles and singles at center I bowl leagues in; team at center where I had my highest averages 20 years ago and where my team won a tournament two Decembers ago.

Shots will be modified house shots with heavier and longer oil. Eager to see how I adjust. -- Lou

Tuesday evening league play was a whole different beast! 147, 184, and a 170 for a 501 series. I had not slept well Monday night, and my energy level was just flat out low! I switched to my lighter ball after the game 1 fiasco and had marginal improvement. Thankfully the team took 3 out of 4.

Practice time on Friday...

My Tuesday league scores: 218, 184, and a 189 for a 591 series. HUGE improvement over last week. Should have easily had a 600 series but missed two makeable spares in the 8th and 9th frame of game 3. Oh well...

We lost all games and pins last night.. to the number 2 team. We were missing a team member... she is in graduate school, and had a paper due Monday and just could not give up the time. We held our own, though, only losing each game by 20 pins or so. My scores were good, for me. 135-123-150. I still could not find where I needed to be. All three of us had better than our averages, and had Suzanne been there, we possibly could have won. I feel good about how we all bowled. Only two more Saturdays left to go. Where has the time gone?
I may go get in a few practice games today. I have BOGO coupons for March to use...
Hope the new week is kind to us all!

Yes, Tomas is almost fully recovered! Slight amount of swelling in the injured foot, but way down from the day he hurt it. And it is not causing him any pain or limits his walk/run ability.

Ingrown toenails are not fun, Lou! I hope the inflammation has subsided by Friday night! emoticon that not bowling for a week or so can hurt! But you're heading back in the right direction, Patrick! Is Tomas back to feeling better now?
I've always heard you need to find your "strike ball" and throw that way. I envisioned what I'd have to do if I was throwing for a strike when I saw the 3, 4, & 7 lineup. That's how I tried to throw the ball, and it worked... It did on just about on every spare I had Monday. I am trying to think about where the ball needs to end up, how it follows through. I know it is all a carp-shoot, but I am beginning to figure some of it out... FINALLY! LOL! Whatever I am doing is causing me to be a bit more consistent.
That now said, I bet I do something wild on Saturday night and can't hit the broad side of a barn! Only time will tell!
Have been walking Chevy every evening... it's been very unseasonably warm. 82 today. It feels good to be outside and getting fresh air!
Looking forward to the weekend...
Stay well everybody!

Last evening's scores certainly showed a two week layoff (no practice, etc): 152, 205, and 144 for a miserable 501 series. The only redeeming part of my scores was game 2 -- clean game! But the bookends were horrible, misses, gutter balls, etc. Can't wait for Friday to get here so I can get some quality practice time in.

Team-wise -- won 3 out of 4. At least that was positive. Had I bowled even close to my average in game 3, we would have swept.

Praying your sweet Tomas continues to recover, Patrick. Our pets ask so little of us and give us unconditional love so it hurts us when they hurt. emoticon

I agree, Leah, that the 3-4-7 split was a tough conversion. emoticon And emoticon on your consistent scores.

Last Friday our team lost all 7 points despite getting more than 200 pins handicap a game. Unbelieveable. I had:

155 -- with one missed spare and two missed splits and no doubles to make up for them.
201 -- with two missed spares but lots of strikes.
185 -- with one missed spare and one missed split.

Total = 541. Wasn't consistent in my delivery games 1 and 3. Skipped Sunday's practice to let my mind settle a bit. Will practice a couple of games before league Friday.

Score well this week -- Lou

Scores were decent yesterday... 155-127-130. I won $6 picking up spares...one of which was the 3, 4 & 7 pins.
I hope I can do well Saturday. We dropped in standings one spot.

Oh, Patrick! Greyhounds are SO wonderful! Glad Tomas is doing well... I have had friends who show them. You haven't lived until you've shared a bed with a greyhound! LOL!
The weather here in NC is really screwy! It was over 70 today, and now they are calling for snow flurries tomorrow night. No wonder everybody is sick!
I think I want to go bowl Saturday and just practice for a few hours...

Unable to make league bowling last evening due to an injury sustained earlier in the day by my male greyhound Tomas. Earliest vet appointment I could get was 6:00PM last evening, and by the time I got out of there, it was after 7:00PM, so I am glad I requested a sub earlier in the day. One of my teammates messaged me that we won 3 out of 4! And Tomas is doing much better today!

Yesterday was a good day at Senior Fun bowling. I won one of the drawings where you get $1 for each pin you drop on the first throw. I got $8. Then I picked up $1 for a strike with a colored head-pin, and I made a $2 spare. No one won the two "strikepots", so they will be still available next week.
My scores were good, 115-179-143.
Maybe things are finally starting to "click"...

Our team didn't win any points tonight... we lost by the other team having a higher handicap... 33 pins each game. That was a bit disappointing, but we had lots of fun. My scores were not great, but I improved each game. 115-123-132. 370 was not bad. Adding in the handicap, and it was decent. I am so tired of having a ball drip with oil, though! My shirt and hands stayed greasy all night. I was hoping after the first game or so the oil would be less. Guess I don't have a clue about oil patterns...
I'm looking forward to Monday's Senior Fun games. One of the strike pots is $270, the other $115. That would be nice to win one of them...
Supposed to be freezing rain/snow here tonight... Hurry up Spring!!! emoticon

Lou, New Skin is one of the greatest products!! I've used it for more years than I can count... as a hairdresser, I am always getting cuts. New Skin stops the bleeding pronto, and stops the pain usually, too. I have even used it on my Corgi puppies when we remove the dew claws(pups are only a few days old, so they are not abused! LOL!) and it helps the spot heal quickly.
I hadn't even thought of using it on my fingers while bowling! Thank you for reminding me of a new use!!
Off to Saturday evening Mass, then bowling. I hope I can remain consistent... it will be fun anyway!!

Have you used New-Skin? You put a tiny patch on the hurt area, brush on some of the liquid and let it harden. Use more than one patch if needed to cover a larger area. Depending where on your thumb the cut is, you should try this at home and see if you still come out of the ball okay. Pro shops carry this. Hope it helps. -- Lou

I decided not to practice yesterday to allow the skin on my thumb to heal some more. Hoping that'll be a plus going into next week's league play. Open to suggestions on how to protect that thumb next week if it has not totally healed.

Consistency is good Leah. Hope the doctor helps. Remember to take your bowling balls inside where it's warm between bowling sessions. Leave your car keys on top of your bowling bag as a reminder to put the balls back into the car for practice or league. This way the balls won't freeze and possibly crack open. emoticon

Boy can I relate Patrick. I've lost way too many 600s because of missing spares, usually easy ones. emoticon
*******
Last night, Friday, our team won 2 of 7 but will be no worse than 8 points from 1st and still in the top 8 of 22 teams.

188 = one missed split but struck on my 10th frame fill ball to help us win the game by 3 pins.
194 = one missed split and one missed 10-pin
225 = one missed spare. Converted the 6-7-10 split.
Total = 607, raised average a pin. Happy with only missing 2 spares all night. Just what I referenced above -- making spares is important for good series.

Frustrating evening for me personally last evening: 186, 165, and a 216 for a 567 series. While my 196 average won't go down, I just left way too many pins out there due to various issues.

Issue #1: Cracked skin on my right thumb (due to the cold weather and me not keeping my hands moisturized) caused my thumb to swell and, even with some Easy Slide on my thumb and thumb hole, I was sticking like crazy on release with my heavier ball, so 5 frames into the 1st game, switched to my lighter ball which has a slightly larger thumb hole. But I had to keep applying easy slide before each frame just to keep from sticking!

Issue #2: The 10th frame! Not a single mark in the 10th all evening! ARGH!! Probably would have a 600 series had I just got one mark in each 10th.

On the positive side, our team pulled out of our recent slide and won 3 out of 4 on position night, so we should be in 5th place next week. Should have won all 4 but lost game 2 by 2 PINS!! Had I gotten a mark....

Oh well, always next week!

Well today wasn't too good, score-wise. But I was consistent. 115-104-104. My handicap was 35, due to the good week last week. It will change now! LOL! The ball would not curve nor spin... it was dripping with oil, no matter what angle I tried to throw it from. All of us that bowled on these two lanes had very low scores.
Looks like snow for here in AM, but no "called for" accumulation. That usually means we are doomed...LOL! I have a date with my rheumatologist tomorrow afternoon, so I want good roads!!!
We have Church league this Saturday night.

Nice practice Patrick. Hoping your league picks up again this week.
*******
Friday night we won 5 of 7 and stayed within 3 points of first. Had a mediocre session:
164 = missed one spare and two splits
177 = missed three spares
198 = missed one spare. = 539. Not bowling well. Bowling hand and wrist still hurting from last week's car trunk shutting on it.
*******
Yesterday bowled in a charity event: Bowl for Russell Home (that's their Facebook page if you're interested), a facility for helping atypical children. Hand and back hurt: 158-184-182 = 524.
*******
Today, Sunday, the pain pill for my back didn't kick in until the third of five games. Also had taped a hot patch to my right wrist. Started poorly, hurting lots.

123 and 139 first two games, then didn't hurt so much for last three games.
180 = one missed spare
187 = clean game
233 = clean game for 600 last three.

Friday at league if wrist still hurts I'll try wrapping it as if I have a sprained wrist. See if that helps.

Have a happy week!

597 practice set this afternoon. Used heavier ball in games 1 and 3, lighter, more reactive ball in game 2. Pretty comfortable with either one, which is a good thing. Here's hoping no major weather issues next Tuesday and we can get back to league play.

OUCH! Hope Carolyn and Lou are better...
My Saturday was good... 125-121-132. We won 2 games and total pins.
Today was really nice! I had 165-151-153 for a 469 series. I was consistently making my spares, with a couple of strikes thrown in. Perhaps it all is beginning to "click" after three years? LOL!

Not a good day today. As i was getting bowling bag out of trunk the trunk lid slammed on my bowling hand causing pain across the top of the hand at the knuckles and alongside the outside of the hand from the pinkie to my wrist.

Still, tried 5 games at our regular Sunday practice but probably shouldn't have.

Three games with the DV8:

184 = 1 missed spare and 3 missed splits and one converted split
216 = clean (so far so good)
145 = 2 missed spares and 5 missed splits = 545

Two games with Track 718:

163 = 1 missed spare and 2 missed splits
179 = 2 missed spares and 1 missed split = 342 + 545 = 887 = 177+ average. Disappointing.

You seem to be bowling better Patrick. Keep it going.

Last Friday team won only 2 of 7 points and dropped out of 1st. But good news -- depending on how the two teams behind us did we'll be no worse than 4 points out of 1st after 4 weeks of 2nd half.

Once again missed spares and splits cost a better series:

195 -- 2 missed splits
158 = 3 missed spares and 2 missed splits
211 = clean = 564 series.

I'm hopeful of finding room in the budget next payday for another lesson. I'm sure that will help. -- Lou

612 practice set yesterday. Brought the lighter ball out (which reacts more than my heavier ball) and alternated between them, but the heavier ball still delivered the big strikes, so I'll stay with it. I do want to pick up some the items Lou mentioned to see if that helps either ball more. Maybe a stop at the pro shop after running today?

Last night was 165,199 and 154. I won all of my points which was great but I'm not happy with my series. I cut my thumb yesterday morning and it was pretty uncomfortable to bowl all night so I guess it could have been worse.

Tuesday evening league play: 208, 185, and a 182 for a 575 series. Started out the night on a good note with a spare and 4 straight strikes, then my line just faded away and I was scrapping to get the scores I got.

Team-wise, we lost 3 out of 4, but the one positive note was the one game we did win -- the last one -- led by out top bowler who finally broke out of his slump with an impressive 280 game! Maybe we've finally turned the corner...

Patrick, I use Tack Up from the pro shop. Leah, your pro shop likely sells the Abalon pads that go up to, I think, 5,000 grit, like a very fine sandpaper, down to 500 grit for a real rough finish on the ball, usually for $5 per pad.

Either after league -- the best time before the oil on the ball has a chance to soak in -- or later at home, I'll spray Tack Up (which helps add hook to the ball Leah) then buff it with a 1,000 grit pad, the one that matches up the best for me and the lanes I bowl on.

When lanes are dry, a finer grit may help reduce the ball's hook used with a normal ball cleaner. When they are flooded with oil, the 500 grit may need to be used. Don't be too aggressive when using this grit -- remember, it's like sandpaper and will take some surface off the ball if roughed up too much.

I give the 1,000 grit a couple of runs around each ball after I spray Tack Up on then let the ball air dry before putting it on the ball return. After buffing, some people wipe the ball with a towel to make sure the spray is all off.

Every so often, have your bowling balls cleaned and polished by the pro shop to get any oil out of them.

Hope this helps. emoticon

emoticon I am beginning to feel like a real human again... finally!
I had a good day today... 186-129-112; 427 series. I did a good job of reading the oil on the lanes today. When we have Church league Saturday, I hope I can do it then, too. Those lanes are really weird. The oil is mainly on the outer part of the lane, the center dry.
I'm not bored by statistics, Lou. I still say there is a science to bowling...LOL!
I was very tired the last game today. I couldn't seem to focus on my mark. But I have greatly improved on my "following through" my release. I almost slap myself in the head, but it works! emoticon
How does one clean the ball at home? What's an Abalon pad? I have the spray cleaner I bought at the pro shop...

Hey Lou, love the technical stuff...thanks!

Follow-up question: I usually clean my bowling balls with Formula 409. Do you do that, or just rely on the Abalon pad?

Thanks!

Forgot to post last Sunday's practice. Usually we have 3-5 guys there all of us working on some aspect of our games. That day I used each of my bowling balls for one game, one ball for two, playing the same line and trying to make it work to see each ball's reaction. They were all buffed with a 1000 grit Abalon pad. (Sorry if these in-depth postings are boring to read but they give me a record of how I've been doing.) emoticon

1. DV8 Misfit = 208
2. Track 718A = 190
3. Storm Virtual Gravity Nan0 = 186
4. Roto Grip Riot = 168
5. Morich Craze = 179
6. Brunswick Anaconda = 188
7. DV8 Misfit = 181

Total = 1300 = 185.7 average.

At this particular center only the first two balls work well for me:

Today I used the DV8 for games 1-3, and the Track for games 4-6, again each buffed with 1000 grit. My focus was on release and follow-through.

1. 208 -- One missed spare
2. 168 -- Two missed spares + one missed split
3. 180 -- Two missed splits

Total = 556 = 185.3 average

4. 223 -- One missed spare. Picked up the 5-7 split.
5. 217 -- Clean game. Picked up the 5-7.
6. 224 -- Clean game. Picked up the 5-7. (Yes, one conversion each game.

Total = 664 = 221.3
Overall = 1220 = 203.3

Nice practice, Patrick!
*******
Tonight we started one point behind league leaders. They lost all 7 points; we won 5. Depending on how the three teams behind us did we should be in first or close to it nagain next week.

I made a lot of good shots but carry was a problem. Held average and for the second week in a row pulled out the third game with strikes -- a double.

180 -- two missed splits
209 -- one missed spare
181 -- one missed spare and one missed splitTotal = 570.

Last four weeks averaged 194.6. Maybe my game's coming around finally. Hope so. emoticon -- Lou

Gosh, sure hope you get feeling better Leah. You being sick reminded me of a friend I bowled with in school and afterward for a few years. He would never bowl a tournament if he didn't feel 100% healthy. A normal cold? Forget it, he stayed home. He bowled leagues sick but not tournaments. I never did figure that one out. Take care of yourself. emoticon

Nice rebound for me personally last evening: 247, 197, and 227 for s 671 series. Only 2 opened - both in game 2 - and 23 strikes! Found a good spot early and really tried to stay consistent and aggressive with my speed.

Sadly, team did not do as well, losing 3 out of 4 again. Our top bowler continues to struggle. Hoping next week we can break out of our team doldrums.

emoticon I've been knocked out by the viral carp that hit me the Saturday after New Year's Day. I haven't bowled any during the weeks at all... and it showed tonight! I believe this was one of the worst evenings I've had in a long while... 105-98-96. I could do nothing right.
But, I am feeling better. Tomorrow is another day. Two weeks will be another league night. We did win one game tonight. The games were close, even with my lousy scores. Had I been on my game, we could have won. Can't cry over spilled milk! Lack of practice definitely showed for me!
Oh, well! Things will get better!
Seems everyone here is doing OK. emoticon

Great bowling Lou.

I had another good night on Wednesday. 205, 174, 198. I had a few splits the seconds game but I'm happy with the night.

Overall, a good night at league last night (Friday). Could have had a solid 600 series if I had only made my spares.

199 -- 2 missed spares.
191 -- 3 missed splits
207 -- 1 missed spare. = 597.

Raised average a pin and struck out in 10th frame of game three for a tie. emoticon
Team won 4 of 7 so will still be near the top of the standings next week. The lesson I learned Sunday about not carrying the ball an extra step really paid off tonight with a lot of good shots. Practice on Sunday to reinforce it. -- Lou

585 practice set this afternoon. Only 1 split (another exasperating 7-10 split on a good pocket hit!), but a few too many blown spares. Thankfully it was just practice.

Nice series Carolyn!

Patrick, your last series with all the missed spares and splits is what the last year and a half has been like for me so I do understand your frustration. We keep on trying, though, don't we?

Last Friday had only 4 missed spares and three splits but couldn't put two strikes together. 181-172-182 = 535. The team, however, had two regular bowlers and a sub all bowl well above their averages to help us start the 2nd half by beating the 1st half winners all 7 points. Hoping to build on that tonight.

Last Sunday at our regular practice session we bowled 7 games. The first four: 190-168-204-149 all felt like Friday night, that something was slightly off. Figured it out in 4th game 10th frame then shot 216-222-233 = 671.

What I had started doing was carrying my ball an extra step after pushaway. When I started the ball in motion then let it swing the timing and better scores came back. Eager to see how tonight goes.

Well, last Friday's nice practice session did not translate into good league scores last evening! 180, 156, and a 170, for a rotten 506 series. I kinda knew it was going to be rough night when on my first ball I got a 7-10 split on a decently enough ball (not through the heart, etc). Kept hunting for a good spot and just never found it. 4 split and WAY too many missed easy spares! Team-wide, not much better, losing 3 out of 4. Our top bowler is struggling too! Our leadoff man is on fire, so he may be suing us for non-support!

I had my first good night in a long time last night. I bowled 181,187, 212. But still lost my points as the guy I bowled decided to bowl way over his average. Despite that, I was happy with the night.

Last evening: 192, 234, and a 173 for a 599 series. At least my average won't go down. Key misses in the 9th frame in games 1 and 3 really hurt! Not to mention some ugly splits in game 3!

Struggled against another high handicap team last night, losing 3 out of 4. They were on fire, and I'm not sure even our A+ game would have helped!

I've had that 4-6-7-9-10 split a few times -- seems amazing to me that 3 our 4 pins in the back can remain up in spite of hitting the head pin. I'll have to see if someone has posted a slo mo video of that on YouTube.

Forgot to mention that the first game split last night was a 5-7-10, often called a sour apple and equally often announced over the loudspeaker. emoticon Fortunately, no announcement last night. It was embarrassing enough just leaving it. First time having that split. Hoping never again.

What has been your weirdest split or spare leave?

While not close to Patrick's emoticon series, I finally had a good night. Only two missed spares and a split 1st game, clean 2nd game, one split 3rd game for 179-264-190 = 633, raised average two pins and team won 5 of 7 in end of half one position round. Rolled the ball well tonight and will always take sloppy strikes! emoticon -- Lou

OK, let's get the bad news out of the way. We lost the roll off. Won the first game by 12, but lost the last two by 60 and 30 pins. Still, 2nd place isn't all that bad. Our top bowler just never got untracked until late in the 3rd game.

Personally, one of my best nights of the season: 278, 210, and a 226 for a 714 series! Game 1: 9/spare in frames 1 and 2, 9 straight strikes, then a stubborn 4 pin in the 12th! Only had one open all night, a nasty 4-6-7-9-10 split in game 2! 21 strikes and 10 spares! Used the heavier ball and it was tracking well!

emoticon

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for the rest of the season!

Tough league night last evening -- my scores: 174, 169, and salvaged the night with a 213 for a 556 series. Team wise, we lost 3 out of 4. Started the evening with the lighter ball, it just had no punch! Switched to the heavier ball at the end of game 2 and at least ended the night OK. Game 3 was the only one we won, and we won it in the 10th frame!

We are having the first half roll off on Thursday -- we tied for first so this will determine who gets the BIG $$$!

I went to bowling today because I knew DH wanted to go. Poor guy has been cooped up with me being sick for two weeks now. I feel so much better, but it was a mistake to go. My first two games were great! 152-145. By the third game, I was wiped out. Coughing had come back, and I was just plain tired. 88 was the best I could muster... but I still bowled well overall. I learned that if I am tired my balance is off and my timing goes south...
I hope to be closer to normal by Saturday, as that is church league night. If I can put into practice what I've been learning, it will be a good evening.
Hope everyone is well. Thinking of you, Cat!
Tomorrow is another day!

Step into the unknown with confidence! Trust that in the darkness of that first step there will either be something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly!

Leah, thanks for asking about my dog-bitten hand. It's back to normal color but still swollen slightly. Getting better daily.

I wish my bowling was improving daily. An abysmal night. Even having taken a pain pill before league, my back kept cramping as I let the ball go keeping me from getting a deep knee bend and being consistent with my shots. Only one double all night, just four missed spares and three missed splits. 169-168-155 = 492, dropped a pin in average and team lost all seven points again. In two weeks we've dropped from 9th to 14th and now even lower of 22 teams.

Ah well. Practice again Sunday. Always hopeful it will come together one day. -- Lou
