CC, sounds like you and DH have hit your stride. Glad a new ball gave your DH a pick up.
Patrick, Lou, you seem to be bowling pretty good, consistent.
I on the other hand had a very good last week but this week it was a bust. I couldn't hit my average if it tickled me. In fact, no one on my team bowled well and we only won one game busting us into second place.
I need to travel some 50 miles to a real pro and get advice. We have a city tournament coming up in three weeks and I would like to perform better than league for that.

My scores the past two weeks were decent. Lost all points on the 9th, my scores were 129-139-115. This Tuesday we garnered 2 points. Had an absolute blast with the other team. They are about equal with us and we lost by only a few pins all the way around. I had131-111-152.
After we finished, DH went to see about having his ball cleaned or refinished. I told him to just get a new ball. They do not make anything like the one he has been doing so well with. So the pro shop guy watched him bowl with the old ball, and suggested a new ball. After I gagged over the $$, we purchased it. Went to lunch. I have never seen a ball work miracles, but from the first toss DH never looked back! We bowled two games to see what would happen. Both games were in the 180's. I have faith in our pro... DH was stunned that a ball could make that much difference. Hey! I was stunned, too! I don't know the name of the ball, and am too lazy to go see what it is! LOL! He got a new Brunswick bad and new shoes, too. Happy Valentine's Day..
I had my ball cleaned and polished. I saw a difference, too. 152 and 159. I am comfortable with my Karma. The pro watched me, too, and said I needed to go to a 12 pound ball. That is why I am the "9" queen... So once I recover from DH's shocking purchase, I will be getting a new ball, too. Seeing improvement is believing... DH had bowled three games, and had such great scores being tired, I wonder what next Tuesday holds? A good evaluation makes a difference, too.
So we are making progress...

Started out last evening with a BANG! 243!! But then settled back into mediocrity with a pair of 173's for a 589 series. Still looking for that first "six" of the season, but at least I have been above average for 3 straight weeks. I somehow need to figure out how to get some practice in during the week.

Team-wise, we got a total of 10 points, almost all of those in game 1. Solidly mired in last place!

Nice going Cat and Patrick!
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Last Wednesday was dismal, a combination of bad back pain and a flood of oil on the lanes as the lane guy tried a heavier pattern he said. I hurt so much I didn't think to go to the car and get my most hooking ball. Lots of light hits and trouble making left side spares as the balls crossed the oil in the middle of the lane.

No one on our team hit average any of our games and the team was shut out all 8 points.

I managed 16 first ball nine counts but had trouble getting the balls the finish strong enough for strikes.

168-156-164 = 488.

We'll be prepared tomorrow night if he experiments again.

Hi all.
Not carpal tunnel. The therapist doesn't know what it is and suggests I go to an orthopedist.
I have a brace and put a heating pad under it on the wrist before and during bowling. So far, better.
Today I rolled 193,171,147 for a 511 series. I felt good bowling for a change.

Lou, my evening last week pretty much looked like yours last week: 213, 159, and a 216 for a 588. Had a good night of 10 pin conversions too -- 3 out of 4!

Team had a rough night -- we keep bowling hot teams! Only 4 out of 35 points!

Maybe a "six" for me next week? Getting closer...

How is your wrist, Cat? Is it carpal tunnel? I've used different wrist gloves over the years but never thought of putting on a heat pad first. Guess it is possible to teach this old dog a new trick. emoticon Hope it feels better soon.
**************************************
So, let 'er rip worked, huh Patrick? Have to try something else if what we're doing isn't working. emoticon And what a emoticon night of points!
**************************************
And Leah, glad you and hubby gave league bowling a try. It's good competition. If the fall/spring season is too long for you, how about thinking of a summer league next summer? They're usually only about 12 weeks.
**************************************
Last Wednesday was position round to end our 1st half. We were in 9th but only won 3 of 8 points against the 10th place team. My partner and I won our doubles point and our captain and I won our singles points for our 3.

Another week of good 1st and 3rd games with a slump in the middle. May need to eat something earlier, not sure.

Game 1: 216 -- Frame 1 split then clean
Game 2: 157 -- Missed two 10s, chopped 7 off 4, missed 3/6/10/7 split, made 4-5 split
Game 3: 207 -- Had 9th frame gutter then 8 count, otherwise clean.

580 series.

It's been a rough couple weeks at the lanes. We have had issues with the secretary not recording results and lane assignments correctly and I had to spend too much time trying and succeeding in getting results. Success! Now all is calmed down and we can concentrate on bowling and having fun. And, thanks to Lou for his help when I asked for it.
Yesterday we bowled a team of new bowlers and had to spot them 143 pins per game. They won the first game by 4 pins and I bowled 2 pins under my average. But, we came back and beat them the next two games and total pins.
We ended the first half in second place by 1.5 games and after two weeks are in first place.
Oh, yesterday I rolled 148, 153, 162.

Last evening's scores: 179, 157, and a 240 for a 576 series. I was so angry after game 2 that I decided to just cut loose and start cranking the ball (with more speed and more rotation) and you can see the result! I need to bring that attitude starting with game 1! My speed was a tad above 14 mph and got MUCH better results. On the down side the 10 pin was no friend of mind last night -- only converted one all night! On my head-to-head competition, won games 1, 3 and series!

Team wise we did much better too! 26 out of 35 points, won all 3 games + series.

Well, we had dropped from 10th place to 16th... but we garnered 6 points today! My games were decent, for me. 153-155-123 I will not complain. The other team is very good. Very close games. We won total pins by12 pins...
Time for me to buckle down and work on my SPage...

emoticon Happy New Year! emoticon We are frozen here in North Carolina! LOL!
Heading out to Older But Better league. Seems my team can do no better than 10th position. But that's in the middle, and we are not top notch bowlers like some people are. DH and I only bowl on the Tuesday mornings, so it isn't enough to be better than we are. And that is OK. We've decided to go back to our Monday Senior Fun group when the league is finished in April. We were never in it for the money, just wanted to give league bowling a try... Fun, but not worth the cost nor commitment.
Trying to regroup and be more SP aware. It's all a mind game, and the doctor should have never told me I didn't need to lose any more weight! Maintaining is harder than losing! LOL!
I pray we all have a good year!
I can relate, Cat! I've been tracking my food much closer in the past weeks, and I am trying to be more on SP. The past year was more difficult than others, and now I am seeing light again at the end of the tunnel. God is good!
Time to get to the lanes!

Hi all and a belated Merry Christmas.
I have been absent from this team due to a poor attitude!!
My bowling has been more down than up and my wrist has been hurting so I had to retreat.
I am seeing an occupational therapist for the wrist and hope to make some headway there.
Yesterday I wrapped a heat pad around the wrist then a new wrist brace over that. No pain during or after play and none today so that's good.
And, I bowled a 150,190,159 for a 499.

Last evening's scores: 170, 204 and a 171 for a 545 series. Positives: 5 out of 6 on 10 pin conversions. Seemed as if found my strike spot during practice but except for game 2 never was able to put more than two in a row all night. Split with my opponent -- I won games 1 and 2, he won game 3 and series. Team-wise a tough night - lost all 4 and I think we may have gotten 6 points overall. Solidly in last place. You know it is not a good night when my 545 series was the highest one on the team!

Wow, emoticon finish, Patrick, with the two clean games. emoticon

Last Wednesday was similar to the week before, two good games with a poor middle one.

Game 1: 193 -- two missed spares
Game 2: 150 -- finished with four splits
Game 3: 190 -- 10th frame missed 10-pin = 533.

Team won 4.5, lost 3.5, stayed in 9th place for position round to end the half when we pick up again on Jan. 3.

Last evening's scores: 162, 227, and a 195 for a 585 series. I did not get to the lanes in time for practice so I kind of figured game 1 was not going to be great since I had not picked up my in two weeks. Game 2 was much more satisfying with more strikes. Game 3 less strikes but like game 2 it was "clean"! 5 out of 6 conversions of the 10 pin! AWESOME!

Team-wise not so good. Only 7 points for the night, 6 of them in game 2. We're firmly in last place! emoticon But it is all about fun and fellowship, at least for me!

Last Wednesday I was the only team member to actually bowl. The others prebowled. We took 6 of 8 points from 1st place team.

Forgot to take pain medicines and cramps from the injury at Family Dollar the week before kicked in bad in game 2.

180-151-199 = 530.

We bowl tomorrow night but not the 27th.

Had 3 consistent games last Wednesday. All could have been in the 200s, except for open frames.

197-198-192 = 587. Team went 4-4 on points.

One teammate has prebowled, another has to work tonight and will prebowl this afternoon and the other has known him longer than he has known me so is likely to prebowl with him. I have a plumber fixing a leak under my kitchen sink and probably won't be done in time for me to meet them so it looks as if I will be bowling the other team by myself tonight. At least should get out early.

Tough to win, Patrick, when your opponent shoots scores like that. Last week I was the only one on my team to lose my singles game point but the bowler who beat me had the pair's high game of 268. Yeah, tough to beat, but a nice finish to your series.

Last Wednesday I remembered a lesson that should not have taken me a game to recall and one I will discuss in the Tips section. It potentially cost me another 200 game.

Game 1: 160 -- started missed spare, split, missed spare
Game 2: 215 -- 7-10 split in frame 1
Game 3: 204 -- one split = 579, raised average another pin -- 11 pins in six weeks.

Team won 3 of 8 points and is 14th place of 32 teams.

Our Tuesday only garnered us 1 point, as we split the last game. My scores were lousy!
110-97-106. No one on either team had their usual scores, and no one met their average. So I wasn't alone in my misery...

Tuesday league scores: 175, 171 and finished with a wonderful 233 for a 579 series. The thing I am learning with this lighter ball: Stay aggressive! Push the speed. Good things happen when I keep my speed in the 13.5 - 14.0 mph range. I also started throwing my cross lane 6 and / or 10 pins with my normal grip and not trying to throw a straight ball. For the most part it worked last night. Thankfully I was able to try it out in my 2 practice games.

Head to head, I got swamped! My opponent had a 737 series. 'nuf said!

Team-wise, we tied game 2 and won game 3.

Always next week, but I am encouraged with my personal progress!

Wednesday this week opened games 1 and 3 by missing a 10-pin and missed a 6-7-10 split in game 1 but was clean in game 2 and the rest of the way in the other games.

First time in a long while was this consistent: 218-204-203 = 625. Raised average another 2 pins for 10 pins in 5 weeks.

Team was 5.5 -2.5.

Happy Thanksgiving my fellow Spark bowlers. Have a great and safe day.
Yesterday I bowled ok. It was a bye week for us and we won all our games, two just barely.
I wound up 2 pins under my avg and it was a struggle all the way.
My good friend beat my high game by two pins for the ytd which was a highlight of the day.
Now, on to enjoy the day.

Good practice, Patrick, and a better start this week. But what a crazy leave 2-4-5-7-8? I'm having a hard time visualizing how that happened, and then to leave the 8? Wow. That's a supportive wow. Yes, the dreaded enemy 10-pin.

Ah, well, nothing much we can do about those. Always could have been better, agreed, still five decent games overall, a 194 average for league night, and you won 2 1/2 points from your guy. Sorry to hear about your teammate's hospitalization. Happy he's back. As I wrote Leah, winning something is so much better than losing them all. On to better things next week.

League tonight. You set a high target score for me to beat. emoticon

Tuesday's results: Two practice games -- 225 and a 192. League play: 189, 193, and an even 200 for a 582 series. But it could have been much better! In game 3 I had a 182 after 8 but then came up with a lame throw in the 9th, leaving a 2-4-5-7-8 and leaving the 8 pin on my spare attempt. In the 10th, better throw but my mortal enemy, the 10 pin stood and of course I missed it!

emoticon

Head to head, I won games 1 and 3, my opponent won game 2 and we tied for series!

Team wise, we only won game 3. The slump continues. Our anchor bowler is struggling, but he was in the hospital just a few weeks back with a life threatening condition so I'm just happy he's here!

Not bad, though, for missing a week, Leah, and winning a game makes a huge difference over getting shut out.

Hope you get to practice. Choose one or two things to work on and don't worry about the scores, only about those areas you are practicing on and you should do okay.

Let us know how you do.

emoticon Everybody has done pretty well! We are able to throw that bowling ball and get about, so we are blessed! emoticon
I didn't get to bowl last week, as I worked on Tuesday. My absent scores last week were better than today's... sigh! 97-124-113=334. Not up to par. Just didn't step up to the plate today.
We won one game. So not a total loss as was last week. Somehow we are in 8th place, so it's not awful. 24 more weeks.
I hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving. Our lanes are open 4-9, I think Thanksgiving Day. I may go practice a bit.
Going to work on redesigning my SparkPage in the next few weeks. I need a fresh perspective again...Where did 2017 go??

Love that attitude, Cat. Brought out the best in you that 2nd game, didn't it? Now we have to get you faster out of the gate in game 1. Good going on the wins.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good week last Wed. Team won 7 of 8 and moved from 18th of 32 teams to 12th. Had only 1 missed spare, a 2-4-5-8 bucket game 1 that I completely missed to the left, and a split each game, one a 7-10 in the 10th in game 1.

187-208-206 = 601. Raised average another 2 pins, 8 in last 4 weeks as team has moved from 24th to 11th.

Rolling hard plastic ball straight for 10-pin and 6-10 has worked wonders.

Talk about missed opportunities, bleak performances, and comfort.......I displayed it all yesterday in my first game of 118..........
The second game was somewhat improved at 212 (snick) and I finished with a 156 for a 486.
We had to spot the team 140 pins per game and I really do not like anyone on the team which made it difficult for me to control my internal messaging system that first game. But I overcame it and was pleased with the results.
We won two games and total pins, so there!

I've been throwing a straight ball for my cross lane 10 pin conversions. Once I get in a groove I'm pretty automatic. Ideally I'd like to get back to putting a little spin on it so that I am throwing it the same way I throw my first ball. But that of course requires quality practice time. Maybe on Friday? There is only one alley nearby that is open during lunchtime. Weekend may be an option...

Not sure about the sweets, Cat. The candy lady was absent last week so had to do it on my own and scores dropped but that was because couldn't settle down and get comfortable.

Two 10th frame opens -- arrgghhh -- right, Patrick? -- total of only 3 missed spares and 1 split but few strikes except game 2.

182-198-167 = 547. Team won 6 of 8 but stayed in 18th place. Say what on that?

Off to try again in 90 minutes.
************************************
Those before league practice games were good, Cat and Patrick. Wonder why they didn't carry over to league? But over all, good finishes. Oh, man, Patrick, what those conversions could have added to your score, huh? Opens, the bane of all bowlers.

We keep trying, though. I felt more comfortable with the pound lighter plastic ball on 10-pin spares last week, making 3 of 4. Got the idea to give it another try from you Mr. P.

Enjoy your weeks all. emoticon

Last evening's scores: Practice game before league play: 199. League scores: 138 (really?), 202, and a 214 for a 554 series. Game 1 was pretty much a repeat of last week's game 1 -- missing easy 10 pin conversions (3 of them this week). I think I kind of got pissed and really buckled down in games 2 and 3 and found my strike spot. Did have 3 spare misses in game 2, but only one spare miss in game 3 and covered a critical 10 pin spare in the 10th to seal the victory against my opponent! That felt good! My opponent won game 1 and series, I won games 2 and 3.

Team wise we only won game 2. We did win some individual points but I expect we've extended our losing streak to 2. But glimmers of hope.

Funny story, Lou. Perhaps you can find something less dangerous than candy to motivate you to bowl well!
Yesterday our team lost one game and took the rest. I did okay with 462 series, broken down as 136,176,150. I had a good practice and started the first game with a strike then proceeded to go downhill from there. Maybe the birthday cake for a bowler kicked in on the second game.
Is there a trend here, Lou?

Last evening's scores: 128, 170, and a 181 for a 479 series.

Game 1 was a true "house of horrors". I believe I had at least 5 frames where the ten pin remained standing, and I converted NONE of them! Shows what no practice will do. Games 2 and 3 more ten pins but at least I started converting them. Never found a comfortable spot for strikes.

Team wise we got run over. The opposing team was hot and we were all cold! Oh well...always next week!

emoticon everyone! Lots of team points won and lots of games over average. Your team really whupped up on total series, Cat. emoticon Looks as if Patrick wins the consistency award for the week. emoticon

A checkup with your pro, Leah, is a wonderful gift to yourself, or one hubby can give you. By the way, emoticon .

Last Wed. something funny happened game 3. First though, team went 4-4 moved from 24th, 3 weeks ago, to 21st 2 weeks ago, to 18th last week. Two weeks ago I had 2nd high handicap game, last week 3rd high. Missed 2 spares game 1, 3 in game 2 plus a split, with a clean game 3.

221-160-234 = 615, raised average 2 pins, 6 in 2 weeks. Timing and release have been terrific last 2 weeks.

About game 3. I took a bag of Halloween candy for my teammates but they ate only a couple of pieces so I gave the bag to a friend and fellow bowler Nicole on a team next to us. After game 2 she gave me a piece saying I needed a pick me up for game 3.

I started with a strike. Before I rolled frame 2 she gave me another piece and I had another strike, same for frames 3, 4, and 5. When I asked where my candy was for frame 6 she said, "You're diabetic and have had too much sugar." "Nicole, I want another 300 game. Where's the candy?" But she wouldn't tell me. Left a 7-pin in frame 6. Oh, well.

Sent her a Facebook message when I got home that the next time she could call 911 if I had a sugar overdose but as long as I kept striking to keep giving me candy. emoticon

The last two weeks were not great, but I will not complain. 10/24 score were 159-119-133 for a 411 and we got 2 points. 10/31 was 134/139/122 for 395 series, we picked up 6 points. Consistency is decent. I may not hit the 150 average I wanted by the New Year, but I am a darn sight better than I was a year ago! For only bowling once a week, I am not feeling too bad. I may treat myself to a good evaluation by our pro for my Christmas gift to ME, and see what he says. I am getting more and more comfortable with my Karma... after 3 years or more I SHOULD be more comfortable! LOL!
Lots of changes going on in my life, but that's what life is! A journey, and I am living every day as much in the present as I can. There is nothing that can come my way that my Faith cannot get me through!
I am grateful for my SP teams!

Good series, Patrick. Suppose this means you got in that extra practice.
Yesterday I started out fine with 158 then totally lost it for a 111 but brought it back strong for a 188. Good grief. Our team lost the first game by 5 pins and won the last two games plus total pins by 190.

It does seem as if you and your team have hit your stride, Patrick. I missed several more 10-pins by hooking to the left of them at the end so following Cat's cue I dug out an old plastic ball, 14 pounds, to try next Wed. or at practice if I can fit in some before then.

Cat, there have been so many times my team has lost to higher handicapped bowlers even when we bowl over average as you did. It does get frustrating when, say, a 120 average bowler shoots a 180 game but it happens. We simply congratulate them on a good game which may have been their personal best and move on from there. But it does sting.

Good going, though, on your games. Keep making every shot the best one you can make.

You know what's frustrating about that friend, Cat, is he never has time to practice or to meet for lunch. His wife supposedly keeps him busy with home projects but he goes with a teammate of his to Las Vegas for a week twice a year so I guess I'm not high on his priority list and that's okay, just call or text that you're not able to make it so I don't wait around when I could have been doing something else. Right?

But then he will surprise me, like Wed. before league when he apologized and said he got busy but that he had thought about what I asked him about angles to use for spare shots then explained which ones he used (we're pretty close in our lines. I think that's why we've been so successful in doubles tournaments.) Mostly they worked except when I forgot and went back to too much speed instead of slowing down the spare shots as he said.

However, timing and release were the best in the past few years. I'm not sure if a picture of the pinfall sheet will come through to give an idea of pinfall but maybe.

Gm. 1 -- 188 -- 2 missed spares, 2 missed splits
Gm. 2 -- 194 -- 3 missed spares
Gm. 3 -- 243 -- 1 missed spare = 625, raised average 4 pins. Team won 5 of 8.

Broken commitments like that show something about a person, Lou
Yesterday we bowled a team we had to spot 148 pins per game. I wish they would spread the high handicap bowlers around the teams rather than all on one, but we have three high handicap teams now. It's not much fun bowling against them as no matter what if we don't bowl better than our avgs and they do then we lose.
Anyway, we lost all games, the last by 1 pin. Erg.
I bowled over avg 2 games and just under one.
Perhaps I need to find a different league.............

Last evening's league results: 214, 181, and a 184 for a 579 series. Much improvement! Only missed two 10 pins! A few splits and a couple of chops held down the scores, but I think I've turned the corner.

Team-wise we did well again. I think we'll end up with 27 points for the night, 3rd straight week we've earned 20 or more points.

Looks as if old bowling balls and practice produce results, right Cat and Patrick? emoticon

Another frustrating night last Wednesday. Team won 2 of 8 points and dropped to 24th place of 32. Seven more missed spares and two missed splits, about 100 pins thrown away right there. 176-161-158 = 495. Game 3 had 8 nine pin counts but no doubles and 3 missed spares. What a game it could have been if only a few of those had carried for strikes.

Friday I asked a friend and long-time doubles partner with whom I have won many statewide law games and senior games titles setting two records along the way if he would meet with me for half an hour to see if missing spares is a result of something in my swing or my angles. He promised he would. That was the last I heard from him.

Don't know about you, but that is one thing that irritates me to no end because it shows me he places no value on his promise, especially to not even call, text, email, Facebook, nothing.

I printed bowling score sheets with the 10 pins circles layed out and will color in my leaves tomorrow night and see if that sheds light on anything.

FINALLY got some practice in yesterday! Had planned to do so on Friday but the alleys closest to my house changed their hours AGAIN! Now open at 5pm on Fridays! Anyway, our plans yesterday changes, so I was able to get in 3 games at my league house. 149, 200, and a 225! Had lots of success standing on the 11the board so that is where I will start on Tuesday for league play!

Hi all.
Patrick, misery loves company, right? Wrong. This was just an off week for you.
Lou, I think your scores were good. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
I did indeed keep with my old ball for this week and I rolled over my average each game.
163,155,157 for a 475 scratch series. I will definitely take it and hope my two weeks of struggles have given way to normal. And we bowled a team that was only one pin off our handicap so it was competitive and we split the series.
Happy bowling to all this week.

My roller coaster ride continues: 125 (really??), 213 (yea!) and a 141 (really??) for a 479 series. Game 1 I wrote off to no bowling at all for the past two weeks. Game 2 was sweet! Game 3...ARGH!! Despite all that, we captured 28 out of 35 points and I bet my opponent in games 2, 3 and series (he was not having a good night either!).

I just need practice! Hopefully Friday...

A 1982 ball, Cat? Whatever works and it did, didn't it? You going to start with it next week?

The past several weeks I have tried to make a very aggressive high hooking ball work during league on mid-heavy oiled lanes. The ball is too much for the amount or lack of amount of oil and consequently my average has taken a nosedive.

Game 1 -- 178 -- two missed spares and a split
Game 2 -- 148 -- three missed spares and a split
Game 3 -- 160 -- one missed spare and a split. = 486.

Team won 1 1/2 points of 8 and fell to 19th place of 32 teams.

Not happy scores. No doubles to make up for any of the open frames. So tomorrow night I'm going back to the ball I used the first few weeks when the average was higher and use it and the straighter line that was more successful, plus keep working on spare conversions.

Lou

Well, I continued with my , what do I call it?, poor bowling.....
First two games were 149 then 127. But then I rallied in the third and rolled a 174.
The team lost the first game but won the next two and total pins so all is good.
I switched to my 1982 ball in the third game and gained back my speed and confidence.

Sorry to read of your bike mishap Cat and your ankle trouble Patrick. Prayers for quick healing for you both.

Is there a bowling prayer for me to get my spare converting game back?

Last Wed. same old, 4 missed spares and 6 missed splits. Finally got a line last game.
153-163-196 = 512. Team won 4 of 8 points. Back at it tomorrow night.

Since I can't do the league tomorrow, I went to Senior Fun Day today... not too respectable. 122-109-167. UGH.

Goodness, we are all falling apart!
I didn't do well last Tuesday. 106-127-111. UGH. Going to be absent this week. A dear friend's hubby is having major surgery Tuesday morning, and she asked if I would keep her company at the hospital. More important than bowling! Sending DH, hopefully. He doesn't like to go anywhere with out me, but since we moved only 5 miles from the lanes, he can manage to go... My not being there and being absent would be better than If I pre-bowled, probably.
Lou, you've been in my prayers.
Hope you heal quickly Patrick and Cat!
I used to love riding a bike, but it would not be smart for me to try at this stage in my life...LOL! I've two left feet I can barely walk on. Maybe roller skates???
Keep Sparkin'!

OMG! I lost 7 pins of average today as I bowled worse than I have bowled in years.
136,109,127 for a 327 series. What the heck??
Other than I fell off my (new) bike last week and have cuts and bruises on my bowling arm and leg there was nothing different.
Next week................
Good luck all.

Sometimes progress comes in slow steps, doesn't it Patrick? Way to win your points and finish strong in the 10th. Enjoy vacation.

Had a good practice session yesterday with a new to me ball given to me by a bowling buddy. Had maybe 25 games on it. Hooks more than the ones I was using. 211-159-237=607. Game 2 got slow and had too much hook and this splits. Have to remember to keep speed up when I try that ball in league tonight.

Last week we got snookered and won only 1 point of 8 dropping from 5th to 12th place of 32.

Game 1 had 2 missed spares and a split -- 185
Game 2 had 1 missed spare and a split -- 185
Game 3 had 2 missed spares and 2 splits -- 148 = 518.

Last evening's league scores: 153 (YIPES!), 190 and a 191 for a 534 series. Game 1 was a mess! Splits, easy missed spares. A few strikes in a row at least keep it from being a disaster! Game 2 was better...until frames 8 and 9...ugly split in the 8th, easy miss in the 9th. Fortunately my teammates and I were chatting between frames and my one teammate brought up how he gets a deeper trajectory into the pocket by moving up in the approach a few inches. I took his advice to heart, and proceeded to punch out the 10th! More strikes in game 3, but a couple ugly splits held the score down, though I finished with 29 pins in the 10th! Progress...

Team-wise, we only won game 3, but I won all 3 of my games against my opponent, so I earned 5 points for the team!

I'm off next week (vacation), and won't get back until late Sunday the 14th, so no time for practice. But I do need to start getting in some practice time.

Hi all. Thought I was posting each week but see I missed one.
Glad you are back and doing well, Lou.
Sorry for the loss of your friends, Lou and CC.
I am bowling well this season. Last year I ended with 151 avg and this year I am up to 157. There have only been one or two games below my avg so far.

Sorry for your loss, too, Leah. Too bad life interferes with our bowling, huh?

A 13-year-old glove Patrick? That's about as old as some bowling balls we have isn't it?

Last week there must have been a sewer leak on our end pair of lanes because there was a bad smell when I was on the lanes -- 8 missed spares and 3 missed splits. They could have put a pin a foot in front of me and given me a ball 10 feet wide and I would have had trouble making a spare I was that off.

169-183-138 = 490. Team won 4 of 8 and stayed in 5th of 32 teams, 3 points from 1st after 4 weeks.

Practiced with a new to me ball and drilling yesterday. Eager to see how it works tonight.

Added a tip to that section based on two weeks ago after getting to the lanes late from the hospital visiting my friend. Hope it helps you all one day.

Last night's league scores: 191, 179, and a 166 for a 536 series. 2 splits in game 1 held that game back, 3 easy missed spares in game 2, and at least that many in game 3 plus a split. No practice this past week, hoping to get out on Friday. I did change my wrist guard out to an older one. The one I had been using has a metal brace that sits along the bottom of my wrist, and it caused my arm to bruise a few weeks ago and again next week, as I found with my new ball I am having great luck converting cross lane spares with a pure straight ball, so the metal brace was literally causing blood vessels to pop! My older one (a mongoose) has no such brace. I do need to order a new one - that brace is like 13 years old!

Team-wise, only captured 10 out of 35 points. Our anchor bowler is struggling a bit. None of us are helping him out.

Always next week... emoticon

Yesterday's league was interesting. We played the last place team, and they had the highest handicap of any team. DH and I didn't bowl badly, nor did our other team member. We only got one game... the other team got two games and pin count, due to their handicap. It's OK, because they were lots of fun to bowl with! We laughed the whole time! And THAT is what it's about!
Hope everyone is doing well. Very hot here... over 90 every day and no rain. I'll gratefully accept whatever we have... People are hurting all over the world due to more than just warm temps!
My scores yesterday were 151-97(UGH!)-135.

Glad you and the kitties are well, Lou! You were in my prayers! My family in Houston is cleaning up and assessing their situations, too.
I lost a very dear friend of 40 years this past Sunday. I know he is at peace, but my heart hurts... Sorry for your loss, Lou! But friends are friends forever when you know you will see each other again... emoticon
Patrick, your scores don't look too bad to me! LOL!
I'm enjoying the league bowling, so that's what counts. DH is having a good time, too. We hope we place above the bottom team-wise at the end. It isn't about what you win or where you place!
Keep Sparkin!

Glad to hear everything is in good shape for you Lou.

Tuesday's results: 157, 206, and a 165 for a 528 series. Game 3 should have been better, but I'm sure I did not throw ball fast enough in frames 9 and 10 and left nasty splits! I did pick up a 4-7-9 split earlier in game 3! I need to get some practice! Team wise we got hammered! I think only 5 points!

Hey Cat, Leah, and Patrick ~~ Thank you for posting. You are truly appreciated.

It has been a bittersweet couple of weeks. Two previous small house leaks worsened during the storm. Waiting for the roofer to schedule an appointment to check out the roof and provide an estimate. The two sheds and all cats, here and down the street, are okay. I cut up several large tree limbs by hand since I don't have a chainsaw but it was good exercise for my bowling arm and shoulder. Probably two weeks left of bagging tree debris. Very fortunate compared to others, especially to those in the islands, then and now.

Plus, last Wednesday before league I had my last visit in the hospital with a friend of more than 40 years before he died a couple of days later.

So, sorry for being absent. You three have done wonderfully. Keep up the good scores and posting. I enjoy reading how you're doing.
****************************************
****************************
Two weeks ago, 6 splits but only 2 missed spares. Team won 3 of 8 points. My "mentor", tournament partner won our singles match but I'll get him next time.

168-211-155 = 534.

Last week ~~ 2 splits, 2 missed spares, 201-199-185 = 585, team won 6 of 8 and is in 5th place 2 points from 1st heading into tonight.

I have a story to tell about last week after the hospital visit and a new tip but will post that later. Have to shower and get going to league.

We lost all 8 points, but not by much! We bowled the #1 team, and they only won by 3-4 pins each game, so I don't feel bad. These guys bowl several times a week.
I had 141-111-134(386) for scratch and with handicap my total was 560. It's fun, and that is what matters!

How did the weekend go?
The weather wasn't bad this morning, so we were able to go to bowling. We took all 8 points... My scratch was 406...134-120-152. Handicap was 57 today. Total was 577 with the handicap added in.
I hope I get better as I go along...

We are just getting some wind and rain here. Our effects of Irma will hit this evening. Mostly high winds and heavy rain. Power company is prepared. Our inconvenience will be nothing compared to what Florida and Texas have experienced, and the devastation the Islands have had.
Remembering 9/11/01 today, too.
Not sure if there will be bowling tomorrow. If there is, we'll go... but not if there is any danger. Not worth it!
Hope Lou and the kitties are good! emoticon Thought of you during the night, and prayed.

Today was our first league date and I did well although I did leave some really stupid pins.
My avg going in is 151. I bowled 151,200,152 so 503 scratch series. I'll take it!
Good luck tonight, Lou. I bet you will have fun.

Good going on the 50/50 Leah! Hope the locker issue is resolved by next week.
*********************************
Patrick, a few months ago I read a tip for 10-pins, or 7s for lefties, that has made a major difference in my 10-pin conversions and might help you, too.

It suggested barely putting the fingers in the ball when shooting cross lane, causing the ball to go straighter since we aren't our fingers them all of the way in as when we make our first shots and thus not hooking the ball as much.

The result for me has been a softer, straighter shot and a much higher conversion rate for 10s and 6-10s. Hope it helps.
*************************************
Got the standings from last week 1 as we head into tonight's week 2. We won 7 of 8 points and are tied for 1st with 3 other teams.

Tonight should be interesting. We bowl a team that has my partner from our state law games tournaments with whom I won many doubles and team titles, and set 2 records. He and I will bowl game 2 doubles against each other and our doubles partners and he and I will go head to head in game 3 singles, the first two times we have bowled against each other.

His doubles partner is a long-time friend and my long-time car mechanic and a former league president when I was a secretary/treasurer. Will be like old home week catching up.

Lou

Off to an auspicious start: 139, 171, 170 for a 480 series. Game 1 was just totally lost trying to find a good spot. About midway through game 2 I kind of found it. The 10 pin was my kryptonite all night -- only covered 1 out of at least 6 or 7. The one positive was my ball speed -- got it up consistently in the mid 13 mph range. Once I get the 10 pin issue settled scores should start to rise.

Not sure if I'll get any practice in this week. Golf outing on Friday. MAYBE this weekend.

Team-wise, I didn't think we did all that good but I believe we got 20 out of 35 points. Or was that the other team? I was confused...

We lost all 8 points this morning... the bowlers we competed against had averages of 181, 185, 190. We did pick up a third bowler, and I think he is going to fit well with us. I was totally inconsistent. 116-108-145. My handicap was 53. We had a good time, and that is what counts! Poor guy joining us was handicapped because they couldn't get his locker open, so he shared my DH's ball and he had to rent shoes. By the time we left, the house STILL hadn't gotten Bobby's locker open! I bet he'll have it resolved by next week he was not happy...
The good thing was they have a 50/50 drawing, and I won it...$22! So we almost got our fee back.
DH says he thinks we don't need to bowl on Mondays. His wrist bothered him today. So we'll play it by ear, week to week.
Patrick, may you have a great season! Hope we ALL do!

I am too old at this point to keep up with that type scoring system, Lou. Yikes.

That is our league's scoring system:

Game 1 is team vs. team for 1 point.

Game 2 is doubles with our 1st two bowlers vs. their 1st two bowlers for 1 point and our 3rd and 4th bowlers vs. their 3rd and 4th bowlers for 1 point, so two points for game 2.

Game 3 is lead off bowler vs. lead off bowler, for 1 point, bowler 2 vs. their bowler 2 for 1 point, our 3rd bowler vs. their 3rd bowler, our 4th bowler vs. their 4th bowler, each individual match worth 1 point or 4 points per that game.

So, 1 point possible for game 1, two points possible for game 2 doubles, and 4 points possible for game 3's four individual singles head-to-head matches for total of 7 points, then 1 point for total team pins, so 8 points possible for the night.

Took me a while to get used to it but all I need to worry about is helping the team in game 1, my bowler who bowls in 2nd position and I beating their 1st two bowlers in game 2, and me beating their lead off bowler in game 3, and hoping we take series pins.

Thanks for the USBC link, Lou! And your explanation! I think I will give the secretary the extra $2 each to have a standard membership, since it is for a year. Then should there be a tournament we might like to try, we will be covered. Neither DH or I are very great bowlers, but it would be fun to do a tournament once to check it out.
Today we decided to go to Senior Fun, and I got better each game, 113-122-169. I finally woke up by the third game...LOL! Hope I am fully awake when we bowl tomorrow morning, since it counts!
You've confused me about the scoring system, but it don't take much to confuse me! emoticon emoticon
