Tuesday night league results: 188, 186, and a 174 for a 548 series. I was especially proud of my finish in game 3. Was going along OK until the 9th when I left 4-10 split, which I did not convert. But Lou, your comment to me about watching my speed in game 3 came to mind, and in the 10th brought the "heat" (for me) out and promptly closed out with a turkey! Thanks Lou!

Team wise, we won 3 out of 4 games, and I beat my man 3 out of 4 as well. We earned 21 points (out a possible 35) for the night.

Pretty good night I think...

Last Thursday I finally got some strikes, a four-bagger and twice a three-bagger but missed spares again cost me 200 games. 184-194-165 = 543, raised early average six pins. team won all 7 points.

Have to concentrate more on my spares, especially at this center where the back end of the lanes hook a lot.

Tuesday night results: 154 (seriously?), 180, and 195 for a 529 series. First game was a mess -- even more befuddling was that I had a great line during practice and then just like that, it vanished! I was at 50 through 5, so at least I recovered somewhat. 3 for 4 on 10 pin spares, but missed a few other easy ones. Only beat my man in game 2. Team wise we lost 3 out of 4 games.

Last night, Thursday, was week 1 of a new league at a different center with different teammates, one a friend.

Not the auspicious beginning I hoped for. I bowled here for years but forgot how the wood lanes hook, especially the last foot or two before the pins, either on strike or spare shots. First frame left a 10-pin (so much for averaging 300 for the season emoticon ) and, like this summer at the old center, missed it to the left at the last moment.

That the balls would begin hooking halfway down the lane was a surprise. Plus the pressure of wanting to post good scores for my teammates.

Had 135 -- 1 split, 5 missed spares, 156 -- 3 splits, 1 missed spare, 218 -- 2 missed spares, had a four-bagger and then a turkey to end the game when the hotshot bowlers for the next league were watching. The 218 was high game on the pair. 509 series for week 1.

So a slow start then got the ball and line that worked for game 3.

My average will be established tonight and a 4th teammate's next week so not sure if we won a game or two.

Happy with how the night ended, though.

Glad to read you like your new center Patrick. Scores went up week 2. emoticon You had the frustration I've had of blowing 200 games because of missed spares. Something for us both to keep concentrating on. The point system sounds exciting.

My last two weeks of summer league were plagued with games where nothing went right and ruined half-way decent series.

8/11: 202-194-136 = 532. Team won 5 of 7.
8/18: 172-135-170 = 477. Team won 0 of 7 and finished in 8th place of 20 teams. Got $50.00 more than I expected.

On 8/21 practiced four games with a bowling buddy, trying different releases and balls. Had 233-138-199-169.

Yesterday was the first practice since then, at the different center I'll bowl in starting tomorrow (Thursday) night, 6:30. Tried to get into the 9:00 league that fills all 32 lanes with teams of four but there were no spots open. I bowled in it for a couple of years some time ago and averaged 204 and 209.

The games Tuesday were to see how the back would hold up and see how to shoot 10-pins there. This summer I missed eleven 10-pins when the ball hooked to the left at the last moment. Never had a streak like that. Back on wood lanes the balls kept sliding off into the gutter. That will be a major challenge this year. Bowling with a new team where I know only one teammate but he said he has already told the others about my bowling accomplishments.

Now to live up to the hype. My goals this summer: Keep frustration in check, concentrate more on spares, and average 190 or higher. Eager to see how tomorrow goes. emoticon

Week 2 scores: 212, 194, and a 165 for a 571 series. Easy misses on spares in game 2 cost me a 2nd 200, then game 3 kind of lost my spot plus I am sure lack of bowling stamina contributed. I'm going to try to get in some practice tomorrow at lunch, but that means I need to get up early and run so that I can free my lunchtime up. With it back into the 90's and high humidity, pretty good reason to run early!

I do like the head to head point system in this league. Keeps me on my toes and focused! I was giving up 24 pins to my man, and he beat me the first two games but won game 3. Team-wise, we won game 1, lost game 2 and 3, and tied in total pins! So if I understand correctly, we got 16 points and the other team got 19. Week 1 we got 30 of 33 points and yet that was only good for 3rd place, so I suspect we may drop. But all good...

My scores from last Monday SFT were 128-164-119(411) w/HC(162) 573! I'm inching forward to my goal of a 150 average... I told our pro that when I reach that I will treat myself to a new ball. I think he is praying for me to reach it now...LOL! I gather there is always new balls coming out each year. Since it has been about 5 years since we started bowling, I doubt if they even make a Karma anymore... It has served me well!

Week 1 of the new season is in the books. My scores: 191, 191, and a 168 for a 550 series. Considering I have bowled a total of 5 practice games, I am pretty happy with these scores. 2 splits and 2 missed 10 pins cost me in game 2, and a 10th frame split in game 2 lowered my score there. All things that can be worked on. On the positive side, I LOVE my new house (clean, lanes well cared for!) and my new team! My new league uses a point system, and I understand we earned 26 out of a possible 35!

Practice time is going to be a challenge. The day I like to practice -- Friday -- the house does not open until 6pm. They will be opening up during the daytime on the weekends starting next weekend so Saturday or Sunday may be my new practice day.

All in all, a nice start to the season!

WTG Patrick👍🏻 Sounds like a good change of bowling scene for you!
We finished our No-Tap tonight. Bowled our friends from Church. We've ended up in 13th out of 14 team. Margaret and Len hold the 14th spot. We won 2 games and total pins for 6 points tonight. All three games were close. DH's scores were not his usual. I was happy with mine...237-146-253.
A bit tired... Headed to bed.

Update on my fall league "hunt" -- my teammate Frank and I went to the organizational meeting at the the new house on Tuesday and we were lucky to find a team that needed two bowlers so we are "in"!!

This is a bit more competitive mens league, and they use a match point system to make it even more interesting. I don't think it is a true "Peterson" point system, but honestly i've never bowled in a league with any head-to-head point system, so this will be a fun wrinkle regardless of the name of the system!

With my new "house" a bit farther away plus Frank and I are going to carpool, I will have to leave my home a bit earlier (around 6PM). The last few seasons I had stopped at Subway to have a sub before bowling, but won't be able to do that this season, so I am hoping the new house has a decent snack bar.

Our season starts 08/30. Hope to get some practice in over the next two weeks. I'll keep you all posted.

Scores yesterday were not great, but I will not complain. 146-114-129=389 +HC168=557. The lanes were very oily. No one had high scores.
Have just muddled through each day... too hot. Not much energy for anything.

Last night was the last No-Tap session... next week will be a roll-off. My scores were OK. 179-207-189=575
The couple we bowled have averages of 250 each, so we can't compete. Really, we cannot compete with any of the bowlers on this league. We just enjoy being around them... that's why we do it. We are in 12th spot out of 14 teams.
Terribly hot here... no rain at all in weeks. Grass is brown and crunchy!
Staying inside!!!

My scores for the past four weeks have been mixed, many 200 games missed because of not making easy spares but converting several wide-open splits.

July 14: 182-170-172 = 524. Team won 3 of 7 points.
July 21: 168-226-159 = 553. Team won 2 of 7.
July 28: 181-186-163 = 530. Team won all 7.
Aug. 4: 190-185-177 = 552. Team won 2 of 7. (Lost game 2 by 1 pin. Ouch!)

Average to date: 181+. Have to do better tonight. Next week ends the summer session.

Best of success with your weight loss Leah. I'm in the same boat, stable at -29 pounds but can't seem to break through and get the scale heading downward again. Maybe we can work on this together somehow. I agree that your joints will love you as will my back and right knee if another 30 pounds is gone.

emoticon because we are BOWLERS! Let's start rocking this weight loss. How about we try to lose one pound a week? I'll start a post for weight loss progress and anyone on the team can join us by posting their weight for the week or just their loss, or gain for the week.

Hoping hubby recovers soon and that you aren't in much pain. We love to bowl, don't we, but it is frustrating when we have to limit our bowling because of injuries.

So, by next March we will each have lost say 25 pounds and be ready for a second league next summer.

My scores yesterday were not too consistent...124-143-110. I was very tired by the third game for some reason. I also twisted my right arm somehow. With my handicap I had a 542 series, so I will not complain. I am far more comfortable with my ball now than I have been, and I'm making progress overall. We have decided to just stay with the Senior league on Monday. Perhaps we will get in some games during the week, but a league commitment at night just isn't feasible for us at the moment. DH is having knee issues. He sees his doctor next Tuesday, so when that is sorted out we may feel differently about bowling another day in the week.
It's time for me to tweak my SparkPlan. My weight has been stable for three months. I've maintained well. My doctors want me to lose another 30-35 pounds over the next year. All of them tell me it will be slow, and not easy, because of being lower carb and grain free. My body has adjusted to how I eat now, and is happy where it is. All of my "numbers" are wonderful. It would be good for my joints to lose the next round of pounds. I've not exercised, other than bowling, intentionally. Exercise will be the key. It will have to be something sustainable. I have a recumbent bike and a treadmill. It's getting the motivation to do them both. If it isn't fun, it don't get done! LOL!
I've been remembering all of you in my prayers!

You're getting more 200 games in your no-tap leagues Leah. That's emoticon

It's tough bowling against some of the younger bowlers who have developed the style and who have the newer bowling balls that lets them crank their shots and get the hook and revolutions that most of us can't get. Maybe others on our team here grew up as I did rolling shots down the lane with hook at the end. I can still hook a ball but nowhere like these younger bowlers. They are really something to watch.

Patrick, I join Leah in hoping you find a spot on a team at the new center. A change of centers and oiling patterns can give us a fresh outlook.

I got my old team together and we tried to get in a really competitive summer league at a center I have bowled in before but which they hadn't. But we were team #23 and there were only 22 spots because of an adjacent league. So my team decided to go back to where we have bowled the past three years, much to my dismay. I really wanted to bowl at the first center since it would be a change of scenery and is where I had my highest averages.

Wouldn't you know it, after the others left for the old center and same league as before that started that same night, a bowler I have teamed with before came running out to the parking lot asking me if I wanted to bowl with his team since a bowler had to change his plans.

I wanted to say yes but had already committed to the others. If my teammates don't want me back with them this fall, I'll see if someone needs a bowler in the fall version of the other center's summer league.

Good luck, Patrick! I hope you can join a team where it will be FUN for you, besides improving your bowling skills!
The No-Tap last night wasn't too good, but it was a lot of fun. We lost to the other couple because they had 3 300 games each. Yes, they are that good! Most of their strikes were legit, too! We are 12th of 14 teams. I had 143-146-216. I just could not find a good place to bowl... the lanes were dripping. I finally found where to stand by the 3rd game... Ball would only go straight. The couple we played against had balls that curved from one side of the lane to the other. When the threw the ball, the speed was like 19 mph. Pins had no chance...
Both are in their late 20's and have bowled since they could walk...LOL! Nice people, and I enjoyed watching them.
Looking forward to Senior Fun on Monday.

430 practice set this afternoon. Considering I have not set foot in a bowling alley in over 3 months that wasn't all that bad.

My teammate from my team last season and I are going to go to the league meeting at the new "house" on 8/16 to see if we can find some bowlers looking for a team (or maybe a team picks the two of us up!). The "old" house has their league meeting on 8/23 so at least if "new" doesn't pan out we have a fallback option.

Planning to get some practice in today as the fall season is not too far away. I was really hoping to change to a different house this fall but so far only one of my teammates from last season and I are interested. I'm going to call the league secretary for the proposed house today to see if he know of individual bowlers looking for a team. In the meantime I'll get my practice in the "old" house and make sure I still have a team to come back to. I'll post my practice scores later on...

The only redemptive thing about today at SFB was NO one had decent scores. I don't know what the oil pattern was , but it was awful. I had 137-116-112. I threw some beautiful balls, yet the pins still stood. I was the queen of 9's today. Had it been No_Tap, I'd have had a super day! LOL!
Oh well... that's how it rolls!

No Tap was fun. My scores were rather good! 243 -170 -213. I shall not complain! We still didn't get any points. The guys we were up against are 250 average bowlers in normal leagues. I feel we held our own, though. Going to prebowl for next week. A charity tournament is taking up our No Tap space. It's a good cause, so we may bowl in it. $25 per person, with $15 going as direct donation to couple's medical bills. Cancer has bankrupted them. There but by God's grace could go DH and I...

I apologize for being AWOL on weekly updates. I am in the process of selling my home and buying a soon-to-be totally remodeled one four houses away. That and car problems -- needed new alternator and battery.

Two Fridays ago I missed game 1 because the car wouldn't start for 5th day in a row. Finally got it jumped and going but couldn't de-stress and had 144-167 with 2 missed spares and 2 missed splits each game. Average dropped to 184. Team went 2-5.

Last Wednesday bowled 4 practice games, switching balls throughout. Had 180-133-200-177. Continue to miss spares and have missed splits every game.

Last Friday in league team again won 2 of 7 but stayed in top 10 of 20 teams. Had 184-158-196. Games 1 and 3 could have been 200s if I had made 3 spares. Average dropped again to 183. Felt as if I rolled the ball well, just have to focus more on spares. emoticon

I was comfortable with my scores yesterday at Seniors... I took first place for last session. I got an $8 certificate to either pay for my next bowling or use at the snack bar. Nice. I bowled 126-168-136. We started over yesterday, so I don't know what my handicap will be. DH's back is out, so he is resting this week until Friday.
Sunday we went to bowl with some friends at the AMF lanes here. Very poor place. Not been kept up well at all. I'm spoiled by all the nice graphics at my house and at the one we bowled at for Church league. This AMF was dated and frayed at the edges. Seems nobody cares there. Those at the desk played on their phones and the snack bar was closed due to lack of personnel. Sad.
Catching up on housework today. Supposed to be over 100 today. It was yesterday... most of the weekend was so hot it hurt to breathe. Not going anywhere and staying inside.
Hope everyone is well. Continuing to pray for Cat and her family! Remembering all of us! Sometimes we just have to remind ourselves that God is greater than any situation we face, and we are not alone as we face each day!

Tonight's No Tap was better... 207-166-208. DH had 196-255-207. We won 2 points. We are 14th of 15 teams... that's OK. We had a great time tonight! My sore knees held out! We'll see how I am tomorrow!

Boy, Leah, glad you're relatively okay. Could have been worse. Yeah, the soreness often isn't felt for days after. Ice and rest. emoticon

Had poor practices the past two weeks. Bogged down with bad back cramps. Started today with hooking ball, had an open each game for 206-205, switched to less hooking ball and was lost - 156, then tried ball that is supposed to hook the most of the three but it went straighter than ball two -- 127, a signicant score because --

Last Thursday team won 5 of 7 and moved into third place of 20 teams just two points from first. Lanes were super dry and hooking.

Managed 190 with three open frames, 127 (there it is again) when I got frustrated with myself and lost focus, then 204 with an open for 521, dropped average to 190 after nine games.

Will not get a bad attitude tomorrow night. emoticon

I had a close encounter with my house's front sidewalk Wednesday night as I got home from Church... A face down splat emoticon Skinned forehead(with goose egg), skinned knees and lovely fat lip. Thankfully did not break glasses or any body parts. Thursday morning I felt the full effects. Even my teeth hurt! I managed to work for 3 hours before I called it quits. I decided with a full, long day at work Friday that there was no way I was bowling Friday night. So we had a nice lunch and went to prebowl. Scores were pretty bad. But at least I went home and slept well. I was glad I didn't go last night. I went to bed at 7:30pm and didn't rise until 8am today. Needed the rest. Still have an ugly swollen forehead, but it will go away in time. Not quite as sore today, too. Ah, the joys of being a klutz!

I am going to try your tips, Lou! The lanes on Monday are dry. Fridays, slick. Going to try what worked last Friday this week. I will see if I am doing what you suggested, since it felt so different, but it worked. I know I am putting the ball way out in front of me, and I'm stopping further back.
Yesterday at Seniors I did OK. 128-143-133. With my handicap it looked better...LOL! 185-200-190. I know I won two games and pins. I was in first place for women, and next week is our 12th week. We'll see if the 6 points kept me there... DH had a 186 game, with handicap it was 251. Not bad! His knee is giving him a fit, though. He wore his brace and it helps.
Continuing to pray for Cat! And Patrick... for ALL of us!

Thanks Leah. Last night was good. More on that in a bit. First, when lanes are slick two things often help to get some hook on the ball. One is to target closer to the foul line. The other is to move back on the approach maybe six inches.

Both moves have the effect of getting the ball into a roll quicker. As long as you're trying things, see if these help. They may feel awkward at first, but most changes do.

For dry lanes, do the opposite to delay and cut down the ball's hook -- aim farther down the lane than you normally would and/or move forward six or so inches from your regular starting point.

Let us know how it felt and if it worked.

Another good night last night. Team won all 7 points, each of the last 2 games by more than 100 pins.

Game 1 and game 3 I had a missed spare and missed split each one with a clean game 2.
195-216-210 = 621. Raised two-week average to 198.8.

Finished game 3 with the last six strikes but the first 2 in the 10th were Brooklyns. Had to take them though. emoticon Like any of us would ask for a do-over. Then the last strike was absolutely perfect from approach to delivery to finishing position and result.

The instructor's tips are working. He had me move up on the approach from between the rows of dots to maybe two feet in front of the line of dots closest to the foul line. That makes me take baby steps but has my timing back.

All I think about on the good shots is counting my five steps. That's it. The ball just rolls so nice off the hand.

When I make bad shots it's because I counted the steps but then tried to "do" something with the ball instead of letting the ball and swing do what they have been trained for years to do.

Ever hopeful for week three next Thursday. May try to get practice in on Tuesday afternoon after doctor appointment. I need extra games to stay sharp.

I began pretty poorly tonight. First game was 91. Just couldn't get any hook, as the lanes were like glass. Tried a different approach on second game. Came up to 170. DH was doing well, but we lost first two games. The third game, I gave up paying attention to where I was standing, and I picked a board to use as my target. I lobbed the ball halfway out in front of me. Beautiful straight ball hitting the pocket. I had 261 the last game. We won the last points. Didn't get pins, but I will take 2 points!
Now, the thing for me to do is remember what I did tonight... next Friday. They oil the lanes for us. So, perhaps my last strategy will work again?
On Mondays the lanes are dry as a bone. I get a curve easily. Should I attempt to try the lobbing straight ball and see what it does on dry lanes? Hey! It's all for fun! Any lesson learned is GOOD! Figuring out how to use the knowledge appropriately is the trick! LOL!
I know one thing, I definitely exercised my abs tonight... I feel as if I have done sit-ups for an hour!
Games go quick when there are lots of strikes. The two gents we played are so nice, and such good bowlers. One bowls on Mondays, and he was laughing because I was doing everything "wrong" from the way I usually bowl, and it was working that last game. Go with the flow... get strikes any way you can! LOL! emoticon

It is a joy reading about your no-tap successes Leah and Cat. I have never bowled team no-tap either and don't know how points are calculated. But no-tap is fun anyway, isn't it?

I have much to catch up on from bad to good to much more gooder as my young nephew says.

First the bad. Had last night of Friday league a couple of weeks ago and had a horrible night: 142-169-145 = 456, dropped a pin, ending 7 pins under entering average. Team won 2 of 7 and finished in 17th place of 26 teams. Got $30.00 more prize money than expected though.

Now starts the good. Had a 2 hour instruction session and rolled the ball better than in league. On payoff night we had 9-pin no tap and had first two games in the 200s with lots of natural strikes. Won $10.00 for each game and had a losing 50/50 ticket drawn for another $10.00. Beginning of game 3 back started cramping and my shots were wild so after 5 frames another bowler took over for me to finish the game.

Then the gooder. The next Wed. practiced 5 games with a teammate and changed balls very two games. 164-215-199-170-166 = 914 = 182.8 average, getting better.

Last Thursday started in a league I used to bowl in and rolled the ball really good. Missed spares and splits cost a 600 series but had 177-178-217 = 572 = 190.6 average after week 1.

An interesting first 5 frames of game 1 where I had a missed 10-pin as ball hooked right at the end to the left of the pin, and 2 missed splits for a total of 51 in the 5th frame. But then had 126 the second 5 frames as I found a line. Game two had 2 missed spares (another repeat missed 10) and a split. But third game was clean. Good news.

Yesterday bowled four game but back was really cramped so I focused on approach and delivery and not the scores.

Back to league tomorrow night with continued high hopes.

I didn't do as well last night at NT. The lanes were freshly oiled. Just couldn't find my own groove. We didn't win any points last week, and I know we won't from last night. It's ok. We had a blast! 178-132-143. Tiredness is my biggest problem. I will get better as I get used to bowling after work again.

I think I would like it better if it were individual, too. But it's mainly couples who form the 2- person team.
Today's scores were decent... 143-133-140. Edging up my average...
I wish I didn't get so tired by the third game. I'll adapt.
Everyone was not up to par today by the third game.

Went with me being 8 pin, and I consistently left 9 pins... DH 8. Typical! He isn't too happy. But my scores went from lousy to good. 124-206-212. Guess there is no handicap in No Tap? The other team had it's member not show up, so not sure how that is going to work out. Another team had same problem, so they make take these two who bowled and put them together. So no idea how we fared last night. We'll know next Friday. It was fun anyway.

Well, today's scores went from decent to disaster... 153-131-97. I was worn out by the end of game two. There were only four of us bowling on our lanes today. Things went quickly, and I had no rest between games. Felt like tournament play...
Looking forward to Friday night. I think I'll let DH go with the 9 pin and I'll do the 8. We both were leaving only one or two pins, so I guess it doesn't matter. My problem was spares and weariness.
I think I will drink a diet Mountain Dew on the way to bowl Friday so I can have energy after working all day...LOL.
This has been a nice weekend overall.

Went to the No Tap formation meeting. Looks like there will be 11 or 12 teams. It will get us out socially... We had 3 free games last night, set up for No Tap. DH was really hitting his mark. I did 9 pin, an he took 8 pin. His first game was 276! Second was 222, and third was 190. We will not discuss my games...LOL! I consistently left 8 pins. So, I think we will switch for the actual league next Friday. I bet I leave 9 pins on Monday, as I have been doing. I wasn't even making my spares yesterday! ARG! Perhaps the fact that I worked all day beforehand was a factor? LOL!
We knew everyone bowling on the No Tap, so it will be fun regardless of how we do. That's the whole point! We've been invited to join a Fall league on Friday nights when No Tap is done. We'll just have to see how things roll... emoticon
My 9 year old Wii console died this morning. Fortunately we had another unit we bought new 3 years ago for DH, which he never used. So I switched the units. But I had to start over with everything. Glad I got my year in of Wii-ins last week! At least the machine was merciful and died after that...LOL! New start, so I am committing to 15 minutes of Wii games each day. We'll see how that goes...

Remember one thing before you go getting all excited about how high your average was at this other lanes - you are three years older and you have had medical issues. Do not get all down if you don't bowl as well as you anticipate.

Usually, no-tap is 9 pins or a natural strike for a strike for men and 8 pins or 9 or a natural strike for a strike for women. I joke that in addition to those standards we should have 7 pins or more for a strike for seniors and 6 pins or more for super seniors. Can't seem to get that concept across yet though. emoticon

Last Friday we won 5 of 7 from 1st place team, knocking them into 2nd heading into tomorrow's position night to end the half. We won series by only 1 pin. That's why it's important to not simply throw a shot away due to frustration or disappointment.

For me, same old, same old -- missed spares and missed splits. 158 (3 missed spares) - 195 (1 missed spare and 1 missed split after starting with four of the most beautiful shots for strikes I've made in a while. Last game was 150 ( 2 more missed spares and 2 more missed splits) = 503.

Just can't figure things out on my own. Having someone else who knows the game watching us bowl is vitally important. Will try again to get with an instructor and do videotape next week before summer league begins June 2 -- new league for my old team from 3 years ago -- and new house where I had my highest averages years ago.

I had a 404 series today...139-136-129. A case of just being tired the last game. But my consistency level is good. I may get my 150 average by the Fall. I truly enjoy the Monday Senior Fun Bowling! I won $3 today. I am making my spares regularly, too.
I received my $$ from the Church league. We were 9th place, so I got $62 dollars. I'll take it.
With DH's back giving him fits, I think we will wait out the summer and go for a Fall sanctioned league. I will try to get in extra practice each week, if I can, during the Summer.
We have until the 27th to decide about no-tap.

Yes, Leah, no-tap is fun. I too hope we never lose league bowling. The way it's going though the number of leagues around the country is going down. Some because of being kicked out of their centers and some because people are getting tired of bowling long seasons, higher and higgher league fees, lack of customer service...

Last Friday I again rolled the ball well about 95% of the time but cost myself a couple of 200 games with open frames. 171 (missed spare and split) - 194 (missed spare and split) - 189 (missed two spares) = 554

Team won all 7 points and moved up several spots in standings. Tomorrow and next week will end the season. It's been a disappointint half in that I continue to miss simple spares and get splits because of either turning the ball early thus pulling it to the headpin or slowing my speed without meaning to. On a positive note, I have really rolled the ball well for about two months. A few more pocket hits for strikes could have made for some good series.

Practiced with a teammate yesterday two games (lanes had not been oiled so had no simplance to league night. Had 182 and 205. hadn't bowled on those dry of lanes in many years. But didn't want to create bad habits by trying to overcome the lack of conditioner so stopped after two games.

As always, ever hopeful for tomorrow night. We bowl the 1st place team. Would love being the spoilers. emoticon -- Lou

Lou, there are several of these "disco" bowling places around here. They emphasize the alcohol and the bistro type food. Some refer to themselves as entertainment centers now. One center near us has an indoor bouncy house...Geeze! Whatever makes the most profit. Seems everything is geared to profit now. And drug/alcohol induced fun is the main emphasis.
Hopefully there will always be a remnant of people who enjoy bowling for the fun of it, and there will always be at least one house that appreciates the league bowler.
My first two games today were nice... 143-156. I was tired the last game, so 118 gave me a 417 series. I made $5 making spares today, so I won't complain. LOL!
Still undecided about the no-tap. Have until the 27th to choose...
Today's adventure to the neurologist and bowling has worn me out. I'm off to a comfy chair and going to read for awhile!

Yes, Cat, a number of centers across the country are turning to cosmic or moonlight bowling and open bowling over leagues. Many of these centers are what's being called "boutique" centers. We have three here in Central Florida, including Splitsville at Disney World where prices are high and you are prohibited from taking in your own eqipment or shoes. www.splitsvillelanes.com/location/or

Some of these centers are designed with groupings of a various number of lanes, usually 2-6 or so, that are rented out for parties or for groups of people. Most are high-end priced with bowling fees, shoe rental fees, and food and drinks.

Scroll through the pictures and see how little emphasis is on bowling and imagine how costly the meals and drinks shown must be.

At Boardwalk Entertainment Center where I bowl, the building is a converted Walmart and has lanes 1-48 on one side and lanes 49-80 on the other. When we're bowling league on the high side on Friday nights the other side is filled with young people primarily who bowl with the music blaring so loud it disrupts us in league, and flashing lane lights, disco balls, laser lights. Little courtesy shown to our league. I despise the loud bass thumping music when we bowl.

Didn't Lou say a while back that some of the lanes were going to open bowling over leagues due to increased income? Seems like they could make both work, but....

Hope your arm gets back into bowling shape, Patrick. If there is an opening, I have a team to bowl in a different house, too, from what we've bowled the past three years. Change of scenery and where I had my highest averages.

No league last week due to big tournament but back at it tomorrow night. Practiced with another bowler today, 5 games, had a string of 7 strikes to begin game 3 after changing balls, then two splits, finished with 234 then next game had a 5-bagger. Hopeful as always for three good games tomorrow.

I'm in my "off season". No bowling for at least another 3 weeks. Arm / elbow starting to feel better.

I made contact with another house, as one of my teammates and I would like to move from our current house (not happy b/c they seem to be catering to open bowling vs league players). The Tuesday league at the "new" house is more competitive, but it is a new house. I'm going to go there in a few weeks and see if I like their lanes (it's an AMF house -- current league is a Brunswick house).

How's it going, Lou? Patrick? Everyone else that posts here?
No tap was fun yesterday. I beat everyone the first game with 244 and the women for the second game at 199. Third game I missed high women's game by three pins as I flubbed the last ball! Came in at 206. Wish that was regular bowling.
I did get a fair amount of real strikes and only had one open frame per game.

I'm gonna work towards that 150 average, Lou! Consistency is the key. I had a good series yesterday... 131-129-144 = 404. 134 avg. 150 IS possible.
DH is still unable to use his knee well. Since he already has an appointment with his PCP next Tuesday, I cannot convince him to go in early. Let it go...
I'm making my spares. I even made $2 yesterday sparing two splits. emoticon

Cat, some centers put out the National's oiling pattern certain days for bowlers to practice on. Might be worth asking if your center does that or if they would. Good luck when you go!

Leah, 150 average is not out of reach if you make your spares, a problem I've had for three years, d'oh.

emoticon on your logging in streak. You can definitely reach 1,000 straight days or more if you're diligent. Mine is at almost 2,200 through a week's hospital stay and computer being down a few times where I used one at the library and the hospital had wifi. Cheering you on to 400, your next goal. emoticon

During five games of practice last Wednesday and league last Friday I rolled the ball well. But a couple of splits and a missed spare or two a game keeps my scores from being higher. Last week: 178-190-181 = 549.

Interesting but frustrating last game. Strike, missed 10, missed 10, missed 10, missed 7, strike, strike, strike, split, strike, spare, count on last shot.

But a mark in 10th of game two won the game. Team went 2-5 again.

No league this week due to a big tournament at the center.

Seniors was decent today... 127-138-117. The first two games I was very consistent. The last one, I was just flat out tired. But overall, it was good.
DH couldn't walk this morning, so he kept to his recliner today. He fell last week at Seniors, and the knee has given him a fit since then. Now it looks like the gout is flaring, too. Poor guy!

Finished the Church fun league last night. Won't do it next year. I think we will do the summer no-tap where we bowl on Mondays. I did OK last night... 141-122-139 for a 402 series. Still not bad, a 134 average.The banquet is 5/14.
Sorry you and Patrick are under the weather, Lou! My DH's hip and back issues are causing him problems, too. We both have had this awful respiratory crud. Last weekend was miserable. So glad this weekend is better!
Cat, I bowled with a bunch of people last night who are going to Reno.
Sparking is progressing along... have has over 365 daily check-ins. Going for a thousand is a row. Not too ambitious, is it? LOL!
My 1 year of being grain free is 5/24, and 5/25 will be a year of daily Wii-ins. Now I have to set more goals!
Getting to a 150 average is my bowling goal for the Summer. Let's see how that goes... It IS possible!
Just not been on SP a lot lately.
Will try to be here more... at least a weekly visit for sure!

We started No-tap this Wed and I bowled well. No tap is my game!!
Not really good practice for Reno Nationals, though. I will need to get in some real bowling practice between now and mid June.

Boy oh boy Patrick can I relate. Last Friday I had 15 missed one or two pin spares and five open splits. Fortunately there were a couple of doubles in there. Had no idea where the ball was going. 144-155-160 = 456, dropped average two pins. Team only won 2 of 7 points against the vacant team where we had to come within 40 pins of our team average.

The bright spot was that I had a strike in the ninth of game three and needed the first one in the tenth for us to win and I got it.

But Wed. of this week practiced five games with a teammate and could have had all 200 games (had one) if not for several splits a game. Rolling the ball out and in and hitting the pocket consistently.

So who knows what will happen tonight.

Ended the season on a low note -- limped to a 491 series, and except for our anchor bowler, the rest of the team did not do a whole lot better. Lost all 4 so we'll end the 2nd half in 4th place. My arm is very sore so I plan to not do any bowling for at least 4 weeks. Payout is next week.

Thanks for the well wishes, Cat. I expected to be recovering tonight but Wellcare insurance decided a few days ago to deny the back procedure. Late notice, right? The doctor and the medical product company's patient advocate are appealing. Darn insurance companies. They have already refused more steroid injections because after three years of them they aren't working anymore and the stimulus implant is the next step. Sigh.

Last Friday continued to roll the ball well but few doubles, a couple of splits a game and a missed spare or two again kept the scores down to 159-174-212 = 545 = 181.6 average, but raised average another pin and picked up the 10-pin in 10th frame of game 2 for the team win. emoticon Team only won 2 of 7 points.

Bowled five games today with a teammate, the first 2.5 without my usual wrist glove and the last 2.5 with it. 185-202-158-182-207 = 934 = 186.8 average. Rolled the ball well again. Same story, though, with splits and missed spares.

Back to league tomorrow night. Five scoring nights to go then a no-tap fun night and payoff.

One interesting thing is that from 1st game average for the season to 2nd game my average is up 12 pins and up another 5 pins from game 2 to game 3, a 17 pin difference from beginning to end. Will need to concentrate more game 1 tomorrow.

The last league bowling for the season. My team came in fourth (combined 1st and 2nd halves) and I had the most improved avg in the league (both men and women).
Next week no tap starts.
I picked up my new ball and practiced with it and my thumb started hurting. By the time the first game ended I had a little bruise at the base of the thumb. The owner did work on the bezel between my turns and I think it is okay now.

Practice out in Vegas paid off! Last night's league scores: 223, 222, and a 208 for a 653 series! Even more proud that I was "clean" (no opens) for all 3 games!! Team-wise, we won 3 out of 4. Will know later today where we are in the standings going into position round and the last week of the season, but we were in 4th and very close to the 3 team ahead of us.

Patrick, I have bowling friends that have bowled those lanes and loved them. The Nationals are there next year, which I intend to participate. It's Reno again this year and I will be there in June. Those lanes are pretty nice compared to my home lanes.
Lou, sorry to hear about your back being such a bugger. Good luck on your surgery tomorrow. I hope this does the trick for you.
Sorry I haven't posted in a month. My bowling has been so up and down that I haen't felt like reporting. That's not really fair though, is it?
Tomorrow is our last league bowl for the season. We have a week off and then roll right into No-Tap bowling (Nine pin to some).
My avg is still 155 so I am happy with that.

1095 pins over 6 games. I can't recall the last time i've bowled 6 games in a day or 9 over two! Arm / elbow a bit sore so I won't bowl again until league play next Tuesday. But I am going to talk to my teammates about next season and moving to a different house. What the current owners are doing to ours is a travesty!

The South Point Hotel lanes are GORGEOUS!! Well maintained, great oil pattern, and because I did not have to overthrow the ball to compensate for the lane conditions, my elbow / arm / shoulder feels great! I should not have any issues getting 6 games in today.

There are two sets of lanes -- the ones I bowled on and the tournament center. The women's tour is here this weekend and they'll be playing there. I took a quick peak and they have a PBA store there so I plan to go check it out!

The second game I was dizzy... my blood sugar dropped, and I was very off-balance. Amazing what a Hershey bar did for the 3rd game...LOL!
Been a rough few weeks, but I am still Sparking along. Still grain free as much as possible. Definitely gluten free. Has helped RA management immensely.
Church league ends April 23rd. Will be glad. Won't do it next year. It has gotten too large and too competitive. Will perhaps do a league where our senior fun league is located. Not about to quit bowling, as I enjoy it too much.

Did not get in any practice last week, which ended up working out -- as work prevented me from bowling in league play last evening.

On a positive note, the team won all 4 vs the 1st place team!

Out of town most of next week, so not bowling in league next week. But we are in Las Vegas and the hotel has a bowling alley so I am planning to take my equipment and get some quality practice in.

Practice seems to help our league bowling, doesn't it? I'll be doing mine tomorrow with a teammate although past practices haven't brought my scores up to where I'd be happy with them.

Last Friday the team won 3 of 7 points and actually moved up a spot in the standings. I rolled the balls the best I have all year but couldn't carry the strikes. Bowlers nearby were making comments about how unbelievable it was to see how nice the balls rolled but leaving swishing 7-pins, solid 4, 9, 10- pins. As with every week so far, missing easy spares hurt. Missed three 7-pins, chopped the 6 off of the 6-10 twice, chopped the 7 off the 4-7, and on it went.

148-169-181 = 493. Dropped another pin in average. Now at the lowest average in the past six summer and fall leagues.

As I have posted before, my back and leg pain is getting worse every day. The first back surgery will be on April 13. I so hope it works. Friday when I went to bed after league and through the night I had the most excruciating pain I have ever felt, far, far more intense than getting Tasered in deputy training. Don't know to what extent this is affecting my bowling but I keep trying to make every shot the best one I can.

What more can we do?

A little bit better last night in league play: 170, 190, 189 for a 549 series. Team won 3 of 4. That is what counts! Hope to get some more practice in this Friday.

Two weeks ago I dropped four pins in average. A week ago raised it five pins. Last Friday dropped a pin after 168-169-169 = 506. Team won 5 of 7 in position round and moved up a bit in the standings.

This past Saturday I subbed the first game of doubles in our city tournament for a friend running late. Missed a 4-pin, had a double, finished with 195. Rolled the ball fine, but couldn't carry the pocket hits.
