At least you were consistent with the 166s. When we realize we can score 190 without a strike, the importance of hitting the pocket consistently, getting good counts and making our spares becomes clear. Here's to new heights to come. emoticon -- Lou

Thank you. Over the past couple of years my average has been between 165 and 202. I just keep practicing and learning and know that my "300" will happen. I know like any sport we have our good days and bad days but as long as we do not give up and stay with it, we will get better.

Moving up to a heavier ball will help with your pin carry. In days past it was believed that only a 16-pounder got the best results but with the reactive bowling balls of recent years that has proven not to be the case anymore. Many high and middle average bowlers are getting good reactions with 15 and even 14 pounds. Regardless of the ball's weight, accuracy, consistency and spare making are still of paramount importance. -- Lou

My game has really improved in the past year or so, I have moved up to a 13 pound ball and considering moving again to a 14 pound. I get better carry on the pins and the weight blocks are not just the pancake blocks that come with the 12 pound and under balls. I have been also working with my husband who is a coach for our youth kids. Also I found with the 13 pound ball I actually throw it better cause the weight behind the ball keeps me from pulling it. And adds some speed also. I increased my average by around 16 pins over our winter league so I am proud of that...I still have a ways to go tho to compete with my husband and my 12 year old son.

emoticon to our team. Never be embarrassed by any scores. Everyone is at different skill levels but we all love this sport. The national average of adult league bowlers is around 156 for men and 148. So 181 is good. When I teach beginning and intermediate bowlers I start by asking what they could score without ever getting a strike. They usually don't know. But when I ask them to sketch out a score sheet and mark 9 spare 9 spare in all the frames, they are amazed what the score is. So, practice developing a consistent approach and delivery that will allow you to get 8 or 9 counts on your first shot and then to convert the spares and you'll be hitting 180s on a regular basis. Best of success to you.
*****
I'll be watching the PBA seniors Wednesday in Winter Garden, FL. and will pass along any insights I pick up. If I had been in bowling shape I would have bowled in this but the back wouldn't let me back in the game until last week. Practice step 2 of the recovery will be this week. Maybe next year if they come back to this area.

This is fun.

My highest games is 222, which I've bowled twice. Haven't bowled above 200 in awhile as I took a break from bowling after injuring my back. Now that I'm back to bowling I'm averaging 148 and made it to the 180's. Hope to get to 200 by end of season.

my highest game ever is a 198, but since i took on the pba experience league over the summer and got a new ball with fingertips, I have watched my average (which was 112) dissappear. I haven't seen anything lower than a 140 in two months. My goal for the fall season is a 140 average.

I think about 212. I'm not very good. I had a shirt say "The old I get, the worse I bowl." I sometimes think it's true. This season, I'm going to work for a better average.

Yes, I keep telling my boys that. Spares are very important.
I wish you could watch my sons bowl. My older son has a wicked backup ball that other bowlers marvel at. He just grins at them.
My younger son has a backswing higher than is worse than PDW. His ball would hover over his head before he finishes his shot. He's changed his technique now and is following big brother on his backup hook.

Not bad Marly. Remember that you can average 190 without ever getting a strike, just 9-spare, 9-spare. To me that shows the importance of spares. It hurts to work hard, finally get a double or a turkey then miss a spare and throw away a double just that fast. -- Lou

I think 212. I had just gotten a new ball drilled and when I practiced with it, bowled 204. Brought it home, and at our local alleys I believe 212. I rarely get real strikes though. My best games were from picking up spares. If I could get strikes, I'd be dangerous.

There is always hope. I bowled the first of my two 300s when I was 48, after about 32 years of bowling multiple leagues and tournaments.

Surprisingly, a year and a half later a friend hurt a knee and asked me to finish a sanctioned summer Peterson Point league for him, four games a night. The third week I had an exciting match against a very skilled bowler going and never noticed the strikes stringing along until the 10th frame. But the next three shots carried for another 300.

This isn't to brag but simply to illustrate how it can happen at any time to anyone. John has many more 300s and many more stories about his perfect games and can likely tell you how some of his came about.

So, keep plugging and try to make each shot the best one you can. Do that and the pins will fall. -- Lou

I bowled a 201 Tuesday. My son is helping me design a new tat for reaching my goal.

Feel your emotion, don't feed your emotion.

(For my bowling)...The only difference between try and triumph is a little umph!

We could learn a lot from crayons... Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

My first tattoo (at 55 yrs old) was a bowling ball, pins and a heart 'cause I love bowling. My average is 126, but last week I bowled a 175. My highest game was 204 many, many years ago. When I bowl over 200 again, I get another tattoo. emoticon

Hi

I just found this team, but I volunteer to be low man. Last saturday I had my new high game of 204. But I'm working to get better every week.
