I use Aldis bags of prepared lettuce which here in Georgia is 99 cents then I can get bell peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers and I also like the Fit and Active salad dressings. I find bags of frozen chicken breasts which I can easily cook and also Skinny Cow ice cream treats.

It's been years since I tried the yogurt and I'm hoping that we go there before we go to Minnesota so I can get some yogurt. I'm not sure if it's any cheaper than going to Wal-Mart.

OUr Aldi is 30 minutes or so away so we try to make a monthly trip. Sometimes twice. But we loooovvveee the fit and active frozen fudge bars. And the fit and active ice cream sandwiches. The totally hit the spot. We have been using the fit and active broths in our cooking and we have made their chocolate fiber bars a staple. Great way to get your fiber and it tastes like a candy bar. The whole wheat pasta isn't bad either. It looks a lot of people on here really like it. My friend likes their 2 % cheese but I have never seen it there.

At Aldi's the Fit and Active whole wheat pastas are great. I tried their penne in that brand in homemade mac and cheese and you couldn't tell the difference between that or the regular pasta in it. Taste wise I mean. You couldn't tell if it was regular or whole wheat.

The Fit and Active snacks like rice cakes, nuts and snack bars are a staple for me now. And yesterday I got the best mangoes at ALDI..and at 40 cents apiece less than another store. I also bought two hanging flowering baskets for $5.99 each. They are beautiful and healthy. A bargain for sure.

I don't know how healthy but the Appleton spiral sliced ham is really good. At Easter and other holidays they sell it for 1.49. I have taken it to dinners at church and also had it at my holiday meals and I never have any left.

I try to stay with all of the Fit and Active products. That way I know Im eating healthy. And the Smoothies are simply wonderful. My husband likes them when I put a bottle or two in the freezer and chill it until it is almost frozen or it is almost like a slushie. Their yogart is out of this world. I will purchase cereals, their coffee, canned chicken and fresh fruits at a drastic cut in price compared to other stores. I literally cry when I have to purchase something from another store, and I know I could have got it at ALDI'S for much less.

I also prefer the produce from Aldi', I just bought some fresh strawberries there yesterday- it was a good dessert for the hubby and me for tonight's dinner. Thanks Aldi Stephanie emoticon

In the freezer section, the Asia Specialties - Oriental Stir Fry Veggies are fabulous, with or without the sauce packet in the bag. I'm also really fond of the berry yogurt smoothies (I think they're fit & active brand)

And the cans of beans, tomatoes, and chicken breast and the fresh avocados are fabulous in price and for healthy homemade recipes! It pains me to have to buy these in regular grocery stores.

I really like caramel rice cakes and the fit and active orange sorbet bars taste just like the sherbet bars. I like just about all the fit and active products. My daughter loves the already mix packages of tuna salad and I love their albacore white tuna.

Took DD to an ALDI store in Chicago this weekend. She was impressed with the prices and the selection...she almost cried thinking how much she has been spending for groceries at other stores. (She is a grad student and very poor!)She will shop there from now on, she says. She stocked up on lots of fresh produce, dairy and canned veggies and soup. She also got green tea and some of the ALDI German Roasted coffee and she said it was some of the best coffee and tea she has had in a while. I love both the tea and coffee at ALDI...and I also love the Fit and Active products. The caramel rice cakes save me from indulging my sweet tooth with really bad stuff! A couple of those rice cakes do the trick. They are good.

I went this week & was in HEAVEN. Through Saturday their special buys are all "healthy" products. They have some fit & active stuff they don't usually carry plus name brand deals.

I enjoy lots of things there. Mine recently started carrying a knock off of the Fiber One Oats & Chocolate granola bars...all I can say is this is the best candy bar replacement I have ever found. You won't feel like you are eating healthy at all!

I also like that a lot of their fish comes with each filet individually packaged. I don't eat it as much as I do chicken & beans so it keeps well after the bag is open.

I also really enjoy their yougurt & string cheese.

I SHOP AT ALDIS AS OFTEN AS I CAN. THE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES ARE MUCH CHEAPER THAN SUPERWALMARTS. SENT MY OTHER HALF TO THE STORE, HE LOVES WALMARTS. HE SPENT 3.99 ON A SMALL BAG OF ONIONS. WHEN WE FINALLY WENT TO ALDIS THE ONIONS WERE ONLY .79. YOU CAN BET I TEASED HIM. HES STARTING TO COME AROUND. I FIND ALOT OF HEALTHY CHOICES AT ALDIS. SHOP AT SOL A FEW TIMES BUT NOT AS MUCH AS ALDIS. I ALSO LOVE THE FIT AND ACTIVE LIGN OF FOOD OFFERED AT ALDIS. I LOVE THE PRICES OF THE FISH AT ALDIS.

I haven't been to Aldi for a while. Last week a lady told me their plums were 39cents a pound and that they were oh so sweet and juicy. i love plums and STILL haven't made it there yet! I plan on going to find all the bargains y'all are talking about tomorrow! I can't believe all the foods and prices I'm reading about... tilapia, chicken burgers, stop light bell peppers! Man!

I work for the school system and since it's summer, I'm not making the money I would make during the school year. Since I'm responsible for grocery shopping, finding good food at Aldi and Save A Lot will be great for my family!

I'm so glad I joined this team! It's so useful!

Ok so I have been to Aldi's today, and I was really enjoying strolling around and really looking at everything, instead of my usual run through grab what I "have always got" and checked out as quickly as possible. I went up and down every isle, and really studied the labels.

I am growing VERY fond of the Fit & Active brands! I found a Fit & Active Chicken burger today, made with 100% white meat! I can't wait to try that!

I also found a fudge swirl bar that is 99% fat free, and only 56 cals a serving!!! Oh that will be a nice treat!

Holy cow, I love Aldi's!!!

I love their produce and find it much better than from Walmart. We have a Walmart Super Center here in town, along with an Aldi's and a Butchers Block*

My first choice is Aldi's!

I love their jumbo shrimp, tilapia fillets, and their Romaine lettuce. I tried to buy that at Walmart once, and all they had was wilted ick!

My husband and I love to shop at Aldi's and Save-A-Lot. We find very good buys. Fresh produce is a must for both of us. Most of the food tatse the same as the name brands because most of it is made by name brand companies. I like the fact that I spend less money there and get the same amount of food if I went to a name brand store. Yes, you can find healthly food at both places. You just have to read labels to find out.

I just discovered Aldi's frozen Tilapia fillets last week! OMG - how good are they? And only $4.49 for a 24 oz. package. Low calorie, low fat, and cheap!!

I found the BEST deal on a 3-pk of red/yellow/orange
peppers for $1.49each, so I picked up several packs to make roasted peppers, MY way! Preheat the oven to 400, take out the stem and center, then cut each pepper in 3 or 4 pieces, dry on paper towels before placing on a baking sheet sprayed with Pam. Spray each pepper piece w/some Pam, sprinkle w/Italian seasoned bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese and bake about 25 minutes or until desired tenderness.
SO YUMMY!!

I love Aldis whoever thought there would be a web site of other people that go to Aldis. My husband does not like but I think for the money you can't beat it. I buy the fresh salads, spinach, fit n active rice cakes and the water. Fruit is also such a deal! I always have my bags in the car just in case.

God will make a way where there seems to be no way.

Nancy,

My Aldi's had all their hanging plants marked down to
99 cents from 5.99 because they were all wilted down from lack of water - the cashier even said nobody ever watered them. Anyway, I picked out the 2 most promising looking geraniums and took them home, gave them a good soak with Miracle-Gro spiked water and
now I'm hoping for the best. That was last week and
all the dead growth is gone, they're spindly but hanging in there.

Kamel, I ate my 2nd Veggie Pocket last night with a splash of sour cream on the side. Not to bad either.

Today I found they had 99%fat free beef and chicken broth in a 14.5 oz can, great for so many dishes and also for my upcoming WLS.

They had more flower planters, at $3.99 each, they were big ones, and all they needed is a litttle TLC. assortment of plants in them. They really need to learn how to water their plants.

Bought those southwestern veggie pockets today, had one for lunch not to bad, $2.99 fpr 2 of them I thought they were a little expencive.
I was kinda ticked the oranges went up to $3.49 a bag last week they were $2.29 same bag, boy it's getting crazy.
Time to get back to only buying things when on sale.
Happy Shopping,

I'M SO SAD!!! The 4# bags of navel oranges I've been getting at Aldi's for $1.99 & $2.29 right up until last
week are gone!! Do they have them at SAL? I'd go the 20
miles to PA & stock up on them for my Mom and me. I had been buying six bags at a time!

No plants here yet, Nancy, if they don't come in soon, I may take a jaunt to Bradford(20 mi) w/my 86 yr old

Here's a hint on why the Millville brand cereals are as good as the name brand -- they ARE the name brand. They're manufactured by General Mills, hence the name. :)

I read a post about Aldi on a message board once with a reply from a truck driver who delivers to Aldi, and he said he picks up cheese at Sargento. Their frozen skillet meals are Birds Eye Voila...same bag shape, same instructions, same nutrition.

OMG!!!! Sandy you just described my shopping list. Have you ever had the Fit & Active Turkey Mignon wrapped in a slice of bacon. Totally satisfying, low in calories. Look for them. 4-5 in the bag for about $4.00 very good. I'm hip on the fiber cereals, the bananas oranges almonds, wheat pastas, & breads, rice cakes& those frozen veggies are really a hit with me too.

Hi, I live 75 Miles S.E. of Buffalo, NY and we have a
local Aldi's, where I do most of my grocery shopping, but the closest Save-a-Lot is about a 40 minute drive
away in Bradford, PA, so I stick to my Aldi's and pick up a few bargains at my local WalMart.
I make a lot of stir fry's with the frozen boneless chicken breast and use the veggies in season - lately I've been using a lot of onions and yellow and orange peppers(SO sweet!) or the frozen baby green beans(par-cooked first in the microwave) and throw in
some if the Fit & Active unsalted almonds, lightly chopped, and season everything with garlic, ginger,
allspice or five spice powder, then add Aldi's Asia
Plum Sauce just before serving. A couple Tbsp. is enough if you season enough and salt isn't needed.
SO YUMMY!! I've also been living all winter on the bargain of the year - Tropicana 4lb bags of navel oranges for $1.99 most weeks - I eat 2 or 3 every single day and wasn't sick all winter! And of course
there's the everyday fantastic price on bananas -
nobody can beat that! I eat one on my shredded wheat
every morning - the vitamins, fiber and potassium
can't be beat. Let's not forget the great price of
milk...why would anybody buy it elsewhere? Not to
mention the Milville brand cereals, as good as brand names in my opinion. I agree re: the Tilapia fillets
being great, the price is right they taste great and
being ind. wrapped is just right when you live alone like me. You can take 2 or 3 pieces out for a meal
and thaw them in warm water in no time.

Hi everybody, I love SAL, my daughter works there and it's nice, it's like having a walking, talking AD. She let's me know the sales, and I really don't see that much of a difference in taste on most stuff. The prices are much better than Giant Eagle, even with the GE gas rebate, you save $40 a week at Sal verses gaining 10 cents a week off of gas. Do the math, it doesn't add up. Have a great day everyone and keep up the good work!

How does the egg substitution compare to the Egg Beaters?

Your dinners sounds delicious! I'm in a pasta mood so just may make elbow pasta with broccoli - problem is I also want peppers to go with it but none can be found in the household. Guess it's time to go shopping again! emoticon

I agree about the sugar free fudge pops being YUMMY!!! They help me get my chocolate 'fix' so I don't give into worse choices(sometimes...anyway!LOL!)
I also buy the Fit&Active FF egg substitute to make my scrambled eggs in the morning. I like the LF cottage cheese...the frozen tilapia...Oooo....& I LOVE the frozen grilled chicken breast strips!! Already cooked...microwave...& Walla! And...the low-fat chicken egg-rolls in the blue box. Only 140 calories for one...add that with their broccoli stir-fry...yummy! And I like the frozen strawberries...as I can thaw them out the night before & add a little SF sweetener.

Did I mention, I lOVE Aldi's?

What state is your Aldi's?

We went to Aldi's this weekend and my daughter picked out the rice cakes made by Fit & Active. The calories were really low and she has eaten half of the bag already!! I didn't really need anything I was just there to look but the frozen veggies and fruit is always a great price.

They can be in any section. They're usually right next to the "regular" product...sometimes even in the same bin. The labels are silver. :)

I looked for those items but never could find any at my Aldi's. What section is it usually in?

Thanks Kari I will keep that in mind about Aldi -- I don't shop at one now but when I move either later this year or early next year I will be switching to Aldi's

While I haven't been to Save a Lot, Aldi has a lot of healthy options. Just watch for the Fit & Active brand label to find reduced fat, sugar, and calorie items. Their produce also rocks and is incredibly cheap.

I tried the chocolate fudge bars with no sugar from Aldi's for the first time today . They actually were pretty good for a no sugar food ,and only have 50 calories & 1 G of fat.

I love to fake out my son by making spaghetti with spaghetti squash instead of pasta. He claims to hate squash, but doesn't know the differance, and there are very little leftovers!!

I did not know they had whole wheat pasta - I will have to try that. During the colder months my fiance usually does the shopping so I do always know if there is something new or different. True their frozen veggies are a good price too. I do need to get over there sometime & really check things out when they are not busy. Thanks!

Ooh, I love the Zip and Steam bags, those are so nice. Though silly me one time put it in upside down and had a mess in the microwave.

I really enjoy the Morning Delight waffles and pancakes that are pre-frozen there. A serving plus a Hickory Springs sausage biscuit and a 1/8 cup of syrup really is a great way to start the morning. A breakfast that is only 532 calories.

Also the J Higgs snack mix is REALLY good. We avoid potato chips but a nice snack is always good.

Finally, their salads are not expensive and you can fill up on them. Their lite ranch dressing is also tasty. Watch my calorie counter everyday for ideas on what to eat from Save-A-Lot, that's primarily what I eat.

They also have some good whole wheat pasta, and good produce, and their frozen veggies are reasonably priced. We buy those, pop them in a Zip N Steam bag, and enjoy!!

I try to find foods that are low in sodium and calories. If not low calories but low in sodium, I make room for them. Easier said than done though!

Chris and I really love these biscuits that are low in sodium but a bit high in calories. They come in 6 packs of two but oddly enough, a serving is one out of two in a pack! It's Hickory Springs Sausage Biscuits - 200 calories for one biscuit along with just 240mg sodium. We don't make it a habit to eat those though because they're so tiny but it does work when we're in a hurry and need to microwave something.

Also, we're enjoying World's Fair Rainbow Sherbet. A serving is pretty hefty so that's why. :) I usually halve the ice cream serving because it's plenty for me since I don't often have dessert and find those dessert foods are too sweet.

Having a food scale really helps to decide which foods are worth it in terms of how much & in what amount. Not sure what Chris_Kewl thinks ... he's my husband & the Save-A-Lot right by us just opened and it's just only one in the area. The next closest is a 30 minutes drive.

Oh and I absolutely love their Fresh Express spinach. We get it every chance we get along with some fruits like navel oranges. I haven't had the chance to get more different fruits though since it's been tight for us lately.

My biggest issue is trying to find healthy foods at SAL. What do you get?
