It's 5:45 here so, no, I haven't played yet today but, I will play at 8:30 in a "Relay For Life" benefit tournament.

Way to go y'all! It sounded like everyone had a good day. What a day of golf I must say. I like it when things all come together. Your wife shooting 87 for a personal best must have made dinner taste so much better, haha. I'm playing on Tuesday on this hilling and very tricky golf course. It almost always kicks my arse! I'm playing with the teaching pro and greens keeper for free. He is headed to work at a golf course in Maui, Hawaii for an internship. Playing golf with me on his course for free is his way of sending himself off, aloha style, haha. to me, haha. He'll be missed for awhile but he'll be back in about 8 or 9 months. Have a good night, Stevegolfdog

Hey Steve, today was a fun day Joe our friend shot a 76 on the par 71, Bob also a bud shot a 93, Kathy my bride a 87. Her personal best and I shot an 82. It was only low 90's plus we had showers on and off . Didn't bother my game. Southgate is the course 5173 yards, par 71, 64.9/114 index. Best game I've shot since the hernia operation about a moth ago.. All is good. In October KAthy and I are going to play in the 2011 Huntsman Senior Games here in Saint George, 2 days of golf, then there is a putting, chipping, chip and run, and longest drive contest. Should be a kick. and the golf is by your handicap. my index is 19.5.. HAve great one.

TurboTurtle, it got to about 96 degrees today when I played golf and I can feel your feelings, haha. But, I think you have a dry climate and we have some moisture in the air. Not too bad where I live but I think Catherine gets a lot of humidity. When it gets to wet with moisture, I just go to my two weather gloves and that makes a difference. I did not have to do that today. I didn't play well but had a lot of fun, as usual. The 3 guys I was assigned to play with were a lot of fun and very nice. One of the guys shot even par. I think I shot about 88 with way too many bad hits and if it weren't for my good pitch shots, I probably would have shot in the 90's. Anyway, I got a lot of exercise in today and that, for me is what's it about, especially when I have a bad day on the course. I can't lose, haha. Have a great day y'all and I'm glad your shoulder is better Catherine. I did not watch the girls play. I don't get the golf channel but I do at the condo, haha. Later y'all. Stevegolfdog.

TurboTurtle,

I hope you have a great time, and share it with us!

Steve,

I'm pretty envious of you right now. BTW, I did the right thing...the shoulder is feeling better. All those days in SC, then going to Pinehurst? Can I hide in your luggage? LOL

I spent most of the day running errands and getting more of Courtney's things packed. I can't believe med school is finally happening, but I sure am proud of her.

It was hot here today and is supposed to be tomorrow, but I am hoping to get a round in despite it. Have you been watching the women at Carnoustie (sp?)? It's been amazing...I just can't believe they made the par 5's that easy for them. Heck, that's the similar to my home course and I don't get the "links roll"! You didnt' say, but I hope the bowling went well too!

I hope you all are doing well and look forward to everyone's adventures!

All my best, Cath

Catherine

CATH- It's good you got some practice in. I hope you didn't hurt your body either and I'm sure you'll know in the morning. I'm playing golf tomorrow morning in my men's dogfight and I'm looking forward to it since it's been about 10 days since I played last. That's not good. I am planning a Pinehurst trip in a few weeks with my sister and B-inLaw right after we get back from a 10 dayer in Surfside Beach. I'm looking forward to playing more golf. I did bowl Monday and Tuesday, hahaha. Anyway, have fun. Steve

I did play today, but not a regular round. My home course is set up so where there are a few stopping points you can pick, so I played a bunch of holes but with multiple balls, so I could work on my short game more, and get a better feel for punch shots. The humidity was very high and I went out this afternoon, so I mainly spent time working on different approach shots and different clubs from various distances.

Boy, I needed that. What I didn't need is I had a shot from some serious rough and felt a tug on my shoulder right after I hit the shot. That's when I headed home for the ice pack. All seems to be well, I just didn't want to over do.

I hope all is well with everyone!

Steve,

That's great about the condo! Super news that you're getting repeat and referral "business", so to speak. It's also very nice how you're there for Charles...I can't imagine how awful it must be for him.

The golf reviews should start happening again near the end of August (we hope). The guy she works for overspent his budget with all his writers, so we've been kind of in limbo on it. She did go on some media trips, but financially it's not very profitable. Neither one of us can until we get a chance to get back on the road again to some great courses!

Yeah, Courtney (my dd), is going through a lot right now. And of course, with med school starting, it's just another stressor. She's also stressed that she will be a few years older than the other students....she just didn't feel ready before. I'm glad I'll be able to get up and help her, or at least be some emotional support.

I hear you about the tennis...be careful, okay? I'd hate for your name to go back to just Stevedog because you did too much!!!

Oh, I did golf today. I hit some great shots, and some "what the heck" shots, but it was nice to get out. We didn't have as much breeze today, so it was brutally hot. It's a wonder I'm not floating, with all the water I drank.

I'll talk to you soon, and take care of yourself!

All my best,

Cath

Cath,
You seem to have a lot on your plate. No worries mate, as they say in Aussieland! It must be tough on your daughter having to move and go through a break up all at the same time. But, she probably is excited at the same time due to her move. How much of the golf course reviewing are you two doing? It sounds like y'all are in limbo about that right now. Lisa doesn't seem to sit around though and I'm sure y'all have stuff in the fire. I liked her writing. Anyway, I played golf a few days ago and shot 84. Charles went with us too. Charles has a condo in Myrtle Beach and we might go down together so take care of some business down there. He was just going to take off by himself. He is very independent like that. Being 84, he may need some help with the driving. Sherri, my wife, said for me to go down with him, besides, I have a few things to do to our condo. I need our hoover carpet shampooer. The family who rented it last month liked their trip so much and our condo, they want to go down again at the end of this month, but this time, bring their mother. How cool is that? It's a good testamonial. Anyway, please keep in touch from time to time through your busy schedule. I'll look forward to your postings. Bye now, Stevegolfbowlingdog. BTW, I'm not sure my hips can handle the tennis due to the pounding on the pavement thing. I did very well too. Maybe once in awhile. See ya!

Steve,

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's wife. That has to be really hard on him...I cannot even imagine.

I also want to apologize for not posting lately...it's been super hectic as we've been trying to line things up to get my daughter's furniture moved up from here to Indiana to her new apartment at IU. She and her boyfriend of the past two years (who was supposed to move with her and...well, long story) split up, so she's needing much more than we thought. I had no idea how much it cost to move just a room and a half of furniture. So we've been packing things up and have rented a Budget truck to move that up, with Lisa driving that and me taking the car. Sounds crazy, but there are so many things involved in this trip, including Lisa driving up to Michigan to see her dad once we unload...he hasn't been the best lately. His memory is slipping quite a bit, and she's very concerned. My job is to help my daughter get settled in, then I'll head up to my parents for a day or so before heading back down to watch her receive her white coat for the med school ceremony.

On a golfing note, I finally was able to get out and play today. We didn't keep score as we were both so rusty, but it was U-G-L-Y on the front nine. All I was hitting was low screamers, even with my short irons! My rhythm came back on the back nine, and when I calculated at the end I managed to shoot just one over par on that side. woo hoo!!!

I hope you're doing well, and I'll try and stay in better touch until we head up to Indiana.

Play well, and I hope the golf/tennis/bowling is going well!

All my best to you, my friend!

Cath

This last week has been very trying because my 85 year old back yard neighbor and golfing buddy's wife passed away. He is learning to be alone and do things on his own now. I've been visiting with him every other. He set up a tennis match for me and came along this evening and he enjoyed himself talking with another friend that came too. I played surprisingly well for not playing over 30 years now. He was good and I kept up the pace for 11/2 hours in 90 degree heat. It felt so good to hit the ball again. I'm golfing on Wednesday with the guy I played tennis with and Charles, my neighbor. I can't wait. Have a good night y'all. Stevegolfbowlingtennisdog.

I played golf yesterday and it was hot and humid. It was not very pretty but I had lots of fun. I shot 89 on this hilly and very tricky golf course. I think I need to go lift weights now because I'm losing the ability to hit the ball far! Hahaha, happy spark'n y'all. Steve

Cath- The Witch would have been if I were in SB this coming Tuesday, but I'm not there. I'm glad you are back at it, just like Turbo. Hey, my back is better too, hahaha. I'll be bowling in league tomorrow night and I will ware my back brace for protection this time. I'll be fine. My 85 year old back yard mentor and golfing buddies wife fell and broke her hip and had surgery but she never came out of the surgery and is in a comma. She is 85, as well. I found out today that they put her into the Hospice because they don't think she will come out of it. I'm very sad and I can only wonder what Charles and his big family are going through. I drove to the hospital to find this info out. It's a good thing his daughter lives next door and will help him being alone. I'm making soup to bring over for him when I'm able to talk with him. Anyway, have a good night y'all. Steve

Not bad, hernia man! hahaha I'm glad you're able to get back out there and play again.

Steve, that is going to be wicked (pardon the pun) playing The Witch. How cool is that? I hope you have a great time, and that your back is feeling better as well.

I did sneak in some holes today...hoping my back wouldn't notice...but my game isn't anywhere where I'd like it to be. I think I'm still too tight from the muscle pull. Also, I'm a "feel" player, so too much time away tends to really screw up my game. (I told Lisa that my golf game took the "Midnight Train To Georgia". She's still laughing at me. I know it will come back, but I also know I can't rush it. It will come, though.

Glad you had a great time at SB, and look forward to hearing from you all!

My best!

Catherine

Turbo: It's great you are playing golf again. So, no more problems it appears? I'm looking forward to my next round of golf but don't know when it'll be. Have fun with your golfing. I'm watching the PGA and watching Kyle catch Steve S. and he is in trouble right now. Back to the show, hahaha. See ya and happy Spark'n. Stevegolfbowlingdog

Hi all, well the hernia man after 3 weeks has played his first 18 holes at Saint Geworge GC. Even though I lost 2 of my favorite golf balls (bridgestone e6 optical yellow) I managed to shoot an 87... par 73 68.3/114. Kathy and I got showered on but that was ok.. At least no thunder or lightning... Hope all of you are doing well.. I feel tons better nothing moving around!

I think I need some muscle to go with that selaxin! I'm just say'n. We are back at home and our little away from home shady rest is just sit'n there waiting for us to show up again. I had a great 8 days in Surfside Beach. I had to mow the lawn today and means things are back to normal around here, haha. I'm thinking I need to learn what exactly the stack and tilt method of hitting the ball is. They make it looks so easy on the TV commercial. I will play in the men's shoot-out this Friday and maybe try to get some range in. I need to add the range hitting practice thingy! You are too kind to say I had a great round. I had fun though and got some good exercise in. The good news is that I shot 42 on the back side on the 3 rounds I played. I'm happy with that but I'd rather shoot under 40 to make me really happy, hahaha. Ya know how that goes. I hope your muscles come back quickly. Be sure to tell me about your next round, okay. Happy Independence Day to you and give thanks to our military for their sacrifices. Later from the golfdog!

Steve, I can't sit up much yet, but I wanted to tell you that I think that's a great round you played! The doc has ordered muscle relaxers (selaxin?) so i should be as right as rain in a few days.

BTW, today we started to get the smoke from NC. Yuk. I hope you enjoy the holiday weekend, it clears up, and and I'll be thinking of you!

Catherine- I got the email from the men's group and they are going to play The Witch this coming Tuesday and the fee to golf is only $35 with cart. That is a great price for that course. I have no way of getting a discount on those 3 courses and they are playing The Wizard in 3 weeks too. I'm excited. I played River Oaks GC and the greens were perfect and way better then both Wicked Stick and Indigo Creek. I'd say at least 5 times better. They had one of the 9's sanded though but it was done to where it is playable. I can see that course being the one I'll play the next time down here. It will be in perfect condition. I was impressed to see how they are working on that course. I wonder why? I'm complaining but around here, that usually means fee increases. Guess what, it is raining and we need it badly. Maybe I won't be able to use my hands to grab the fish out of the ponds around my complex. My DW and her family are going to this warehouse that is being used to sell out of business stuff and discounted prices. I hope she doesn't come back with a new kitchen sink, so to speak. She has been threatening me, hahaha. I played this morning at 7am and finished by 10:30am. The course had 50 yards of visibility with fog until the 9th hole. My lazer didn't work due to the smog. I hit two shots that I thought were perfect just to find them off to the side of the green. It is not nice to play in fog. I shot 45/42. No breakout round but the backside was closer. I seemed to be very consistent this trip with all three of the back sides being 42. Well, I need a nap now so I'll check out Blackmoor GC and go close my eyes. Too bad about your back issue. That is not fun and I hope it is not serious. Those things can take time to heal. See ya, Stevegolfdogtoday

That's great, Steve! I think you'll have a lot of fun with that golf group. And way to go on the tennis! I haven't played in years either, and I do miss it.

In the meantime, there will be no golf for me at the moment...my back went out yesterday and I'm having a heck of a time even sitting comfortably. I'm thinking a muscle relaxer and hitting the bed again for a bit to see if it eases up.

We'll definitely have to get together on one of your trips down. I hope that smoke is better today...we had been getting a lot from the Florida wildfires, and it is yucky. Thank goodness that cleared up.

Oh, I think I might have sent you the wrong link on Blackmoor. So here it is, if you're interested: http://www.golfcarolina.com/course-reviews

I still think that might be my favorite course in the MB area.

Anywho, I hope you have a great day today!

Hey! I got the emails from the organizer for this golfing group here in Myrtle Beach and I'm in. Way cool! I'll get the local discounts too. The guy even sends out a news letter telling stories about what went on during the tournaments. It was a lengthy letter too. I liked that and it makes it sort of personal to the group. A nice touch. Anyway, I'll be looking forward to my next trip back. I played tennis yesterday for the first time in 30 years. I was like finding a lost friend I once had. Way cool and I played well too. I still have my good serve. Anyway, one hour of that in 90 degree weather was enough for me and my shirt was soaking wet, LOL. I'm golfing tomorrow at River Oaks. I'm using the timeshare funny money they gave me so it's free. I like free, haha. Anyway, I hope the course is OK. I have this feeling it will be about the same as the other two I played this week. The fire from NC was all over this place and it smelled like a campfire and a haze blanketed the whole area. I hope they get it under control. Anyway, have a good night and I'll tell you how I did in my golf tomorrow. Stevegolfbowlingtennisgamesterdog

Thanks for your info Cathy. We leave on the 2nd and I don't know when we come back yet but we are always trying to fit another trip down here into our plans. Maybe the timing will be for us to meet, but probably not within the next two weeks. I'll keep in touch about when we are in the area again. It looks like we come down about once per month. We have a trip planned to Pine Hurst area next month with my sister and BIL. Have fun golfing tomorrow and I might do the same. We have this funny money from Plantation Resorts we need to spend. I played tennis this morning with my nephew and his friend. I got a workout because I hit to the two of them and they sprayed the ball, hahaha. One hour was better then aerobics. Have a good night. Thanks a lot, Steve! I haven't read what you wrote yet, but I'm sure you were spot on, and it always helps to have input! We keep getting rain here in the late afternoon, but still not enough to take care of our drought. I guess you could always take up fish grabbing as a third sport if this drought holds! LOL

Here is the link to Blackmoor: http://www.worldgolf.com/features/blackmoo
r-golf-club-myrtle-beach-5097.htm In retrospect, I should have sent you the club info, but it shouldn't be hard to find from there. Just a click or two...and if you give them a call, I suspect you can get a good rate. Tell them where your condo is, and that should help too. They are very accomodating, and it's an amazing course. I've never had to think so much playing, but to me that made it awesome. Also, if you can, you HAVE to get the pulled pork sandwich at the clubhouse. Being from the north that had never appealed to me, but it was delicious...I'm craving another one!

I'm looking forward to getting out tomorrow and playing a round. How long are you going to be in the MB area? Maybe I can try to run up there or at least between...Lisa is so busy writing for business journals I have some spare time in the next week or so.

Be well, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Cathy, thanks for your suggestion to play Blackmore. I'll look into it and see what it costs to play. I left a comment on Lisa's review about Indigo Creek, hahaha, and liked it for facebook. I hope that helps y'all! I felt the same way in how she stated that course and she has a gift for words too. I'll have to try and find the Wicked Stick review and see how that was summed up. Good thing about your rain you got. We need it here in Surfside/MB area. The ponds are very low with water by my condo and the fish are almost showing and can not hide. That's not good. Have a good night.

Yes! I did play golf today. I had a blast and I was supposed to play with a foursome but at the very last minute, two of the guys had to leave. So, it was me and one other single. We really enjoyed ourselves. We had the same interests and played about the same except that he hit the ball about 20 yards further off the tee. I managed to out drive him once that I can remember. I shot 46 and then 42. The course was in great shape except for the greens. They were bumpy with the green dots all over the place. They were actually slower then most and it took me a long time to get my putts close. I three putted 4 times and it was very frustrating to me. I did make a few bombs and that helped. All in all, it was a fun day of golf. The good news is that I met this guy who was playing in a local weekly traveling league and I can play in it. I met the group after my round in the eating area and met the organizer. He is going to send me the info. I will be able to get local rates by playing with them on Tuesday's when I come down. I just tell them I'll play when I get the location and time sent to my email. Anyway, y'all have a good night ya hear! Stevegolfdog

Steve, I hope you liked Wicked Stick! We reviewed that as well, but I'll admit, I'm just too darn lazy to look up the link. ;-) It will be on worldgolf.com. The greens werent' bad when we were there in April (albeit a bit slow and I prefer fast) but we had a good time and enjoyed the course. Lots of room on the drives, I thought.

We definitely have to get together soon. Even if we aren't actually doing a review, I can show you what we do. It changes sometimes based on the pace of play, but we do try to look at every angle, etc. Let me know what you think of the review...if you want, I can send you links to the courses before you play them.

BTW, you should definitely play Blackmoor if you haven't already. I really think it might be my favorite course in the area. Amazing, good staff, and a lot of fun.

We were rained out here, but we definitely needed it. I hate to not play, but in this drought we need all the rain we can get!

Be well all, and hope to hear from you soon!

Catha

Thanks for the review link. I can't wait to read it and see how it compares to how I feel about it, haha. It sounds like your short game is actually pretty good. I'm playing Wicked Stick tomorrow morning at 9am and can't wait to play it again. I'm hoping the greens are good like they are saying. You know how that goes! Yes Cath, it would be fun for us to play golf together along with Lisa. It would be fun how you go about your game and reviewing process. I watched Mr Langer work out his method of analyzing Rock Barn and him and his caddy were very serious. They really worked out the different parts of the greens and where exactly the slopes were. They both stood at the foot of the tee box and just looked out and took notes on every hole. It was fun to see how intense there were. No wonder why he is a great player. I guess if you can just pull the trigger when golfing, so to speak, all you need to do is manage your shots. Off to dinner so have a good night y'all. Stevegolfdog

Elton, I'm so glad the surgery went well and that you're recovering nicely! Won't be too long before you're back to your old self, it sounds like.

Steve, I haven't yet played the Palmer course you were talking about, but from the way you describe it I'll certainly know it when I see it! We did play Indigo Creek and had a blast. Lisa wrote a review about it (If you want to read it) at http://www.golfcarolina.com/course-reviews
/indigo-creek-golf-club-murrells-inlet
-myrtle-beach-12178.htm

Sounds like your game is coming together well! When we played there the pace was also slow for us, but we hooked up with this couple who were just fantastic fun, so it made the waiting not so bad. We'll definitely have to get together and play sometime soon! Hoping I can get up that way before too long. Early August is going to be crazy...my daughter has her white coat ceremony in Indianapolis, and we are helping her move from Chicago to Bloomington, IN as well.

Luckily I was able to get out there yesterday and today and play. There was a lot of rust to knock off after the heat layoff, but I definitely had a lot of fun. Today was more of a practice day so I didn't play 18, but I am definitely seeing some improvement in my accuracy going back to my old way of running the ball up (where I can) rather than always trying to stop the ball next to the pin. Thanks again for the good advice! Still love the wedges on the short chips though..LOL

Elton, I hope you keep healing quickly, and Steve, lets definitely plan on getting together for a round before too long! I hope your DW's sprain heals soon!

I like the count down method to when you play your next round of golf, haha. It all sounds good. I like camping too but only if I can get away and play golf somewhere. I bring a shag bag and hit around the camp ground. I got $100 of funny money at our timeshare and can be used to play Wicked Stick GC. I'll even have $30 bucks left over after my DW and I play around. I just have to go through the timeshare up-to-date pestering meeting with them trying to sell me some kind of up grade. Not go'n to happen. Have y'all be watching this Tani girl on the LPGA? She will get me to watch more LPGA tournaments. Mrs. Wie has been a disappointment. They all thought she would dominate the LPGA. NOT! Any, golf tomorrow at Wicket Stick, yippeeee! Stevegolfbowlingdog

Day 6, swelling is going down nicely. 5 more days and see what the doc has to say. Walking walking walking, putted a couple of times but put it aside to assure a good healing. Can't wait till I get to swing the clubs and do a little camping in the tent trailer.

I golfed yesterday at Indigo Creek Golf Course. It is only about 2 miles from our condo and is very challenging. I shot 84 with a 40 on the back side. I figured something out that worked for me. I tried to pause at the top of my back swing and it made for a better down swing. I didn't hit any fat shots after doing that on every shot. My drives seem to go straighter too. I had a blast being paired with two employees of the golf course. Y'all have a great day!
Cathy, I'll meet you half way at some golf course, hahaha. I hope all is well with you.

Here it is Wednesday the 22nd and the surgery went well, now its time to heal. Guess I will not be going to the Long Drive Contest to see how far I could hit the little white thing. Got out of surgery and back home by 12 noon. Jumped in bed slept a couple of hours and got up and took a 1 block stroll. Today I'll have a few strolls around the neighbor hood. My poor Dizzy dog won't understand, she loves to go with me on walks. But the bright side, soon they will be longer ones. My friends that are riding Race Across American is on an average of 21 mph, they are over half was as of yesterday. Still looks like they will make the 2,990 miles less than 6 days. One healthy group.. Well, the doc said I could do some putting. I might try it oug in the living room to see how it feels. Happy golfing and bowling... Hope to talk about a score in a few weeks.. See ya, Elton

Yeah Elton, I hope your surgery works out well for you.
Cath, thanks for your update. Her advise is what Tom Watson advocates so you are in good company. He would go all the way down to a 5 iron when chipping. The lay of the green has a lot to do with your choice. You must not fear the high shot to the pin to avoid those undulating greens. There is this Arnold Palmer course in the Pinehurst area that comes to mine. I don't remember the name but if you played it, you would remember the 18th green. I did not know he was that wicked. He buried several elephants in that green, haha. You can't chicken out when your iron to that green either. What a green I must say. Cathy, do you know the course I'm talking about? I did play golf today and my DW chickened out to play. She felt her sprain was not ready to do the full swing. My neighbor and I went and had a blast. We were squeezed between foursomes and it was so slow, ya know what I mean. I managed to hit several very good shots but many poor shots and shot an 85. I am happy with that score. This course we played is so tricky and they give it a low rating and slope. They are very wrong on their gauging the course I feel. I have to hit fades and hooks and avoid areas and hit to landing areas. It is so hilly with so many slopy shots. It just plays havoc with you. I bowled last night and stuck so many corner pins to make me almost go mad, LOL. No kid'n, it was so frustrating and I only shot 540. That's a 180 average and I hardly missed the pocket. It's like a crap shoot. Anyway, I got good exercise in the last two days. I just had pizza, hahaha. All the calories are now back, haha, but I had fruit for lunch and oatmeal for breakfast. Y'all have a good night, ya hear. Stevegolfbowlingdog.

Happy Belated Father's Day, Steve and Elton! I meant to write, but there have been a lot of distractions.

I do grip down for those shots, but still find I fly them a bit too far. Walton talked to me about distance control with various clubs and trusting I have the ability, and that really helped. For example, we talked about chipping from my problem distance less with a pitching, sand, or lob wedge (which I had switched to), and instead, when appropriate, running up with another iron. Using the front edge of the green as a target, and choosing the right club that will roll out to the pin. It's something I had been doing, but the way she explained it made me trust more that I was doing the right thing...and therefore I was keeping my head down. (That and fear of her...LOL). You're right Steve, I worry too much about my game sometimes. I just want to break that elusive 5 handicap so much. She also pointed out I'm trying to do that at one of the longest courses in the area...which is a very good point. I should just be happy with what I'm accomplishing. Thanks Elton and Steve for the advice as well!

Good luck with your surgery, Elton...please let us know how it went!

Steve, I hope your bowling league went well and that the golf was all good today!

We've been under an extreme heat advisory the last couple of days, so I've been pretty much stuck at home. I went out to try and practice today and even driving my cart there it was like driving into a blast furnace. Needless to say, I headed back home.

I hope everyone is well!

My best,

Cath

ELTON- It sounds like you had a good round and playing with better players will help make you play better. You just try harder. The funny thing about golf is that you always look back and say to yourself, "I can have done better". Just look what Rory said in his interview holding the trophy. He said, "I left a few putts out there", hahaha. You are never satisfied, hahaha. I can relate. I always go over my game after it's over and try to figure out what I could have done better. I'll look up that bicycle race across the US of A. They would have to be in good shape to try that. I would keel over and die after about 10 miles, haha. My legs would go first and then my heart, LOL. Anyway, I'm bowling tomorrow in league and I can't wait and I'm golfing on Tuesday and I can't wait for that either. I have good things going in both of my sports. Have fun what ever you're up to. Stevegolfdog

Well today was the last golf game until the surgery is done which is tuesday. I'll be glad when this id over. Hopefully it will only be a couple of weeks. Today we played with a friend who s index is 9.1. I guess he brought the best out in me 9 holes par 34 he shot a 37 and I shot a 40. even though its 6 over I felt good about it. And yes there is always room for improvement. One has to remember slow your swing down! Even though Robbie reminded me of it. I think the hernia really told me today. Anyway, I hope you all had fun today, Steve happy fathers day, our son call and makes a man feel good. Also, my friends started their journey Acroos America using 8 tandem Bicycles to cross the US in less than 6 days. If ya want to see crazy healthy people look up Race Across America.. They start in San Diego and end in Maryland. People for all over the world are doing this race... My friends are T 812 team JDRF IDA check it out.. Cheers.. Elton

Cathy- I was thinking about your asking for help, hahaha. That is funny when we all should be taking lessons from you! Hahaha. Anyway, I played golf yesterday at my regular course with the men's dog fight. I shot 82 with 6 bogies in a row on the back side. I just did not hit my irons well on that side. All of my drives except one were in the fairway and were well hit. I started chunking again, haha. I thought were going to be in the money with plus 8 from our index but two other teams were higher. Better luck next time. BTW, I thought of swinging hard and it worked. I increased all my yardages and I actually hit straighter shots too. I guess hitting the ball harder gave me a slot and a groove with my swing plane and I hit straighter shots without giving my swing a chance to pull or push. Interesting huh? I still stayed in balance and that is the key. I think I started to lift my head up on the back side a bit and took my eye off the ball. Two guys in my group pointed that out to me around the 17th hole. Too late to fix it, haha. Have a great day y'all.

Cath, what I found is that 80 to 90 yards is like a clean up hit. Find that club that is for that range like up and stare at the ball and swing. And poof done deal. Just like yesterday for me par 5 hit my 5 wood perfect around the dog leg 210 yards to go. Again my trusty 5 wood again and poof skied the ball. Golf is such a crazy game. By he way I ended with a snow ball! And my bride pared it.. What a game... Elton

Cath, you just have to not care too much, hahah. I know that sounds funny but it's only a game. Sometimes, you put too much pressure on yourself. I know it's easier said then done. I find that if I swing three times in a row, it sticks with me. But, if you are hitting down on the ball and take a divot, it's hard to do it 3 times in a row, hahaha. I find that working the shaft for getting the correct yardage in your area of concern works perfectly. If you want to take some distance off a full swing, just swing normal but one inch down the shaft and go down the sorter the distance. It works and I think Dave Pelz advocates that. He even makes extra long grips for that purpose. I hit my fairway sand wedge 65 to 67 at full swing and if I want to hit it 55 yards, I grip down one inch and take a full swing. It works for me. Have fun with your playing lesson tomorrow. I've never had anything like that. Have a good night and above all, have fun. Stevegolfbowlingdoggiewagg'nitstailwithton

How neat, Elton! It is pretty awesome...I wish I would have commented on it earlier.

Steve, I think it's those 70-90 yd. chip shots that are killing me the most. I've had a lot of time to think about it, and I believe my problem is I'm lifting my head because I don't trust I've hit it well...and we all know what happens then. Tomorrow is the long awaited harassment round with the golf coach (heck, in her day she was best in the state for years, but now has health problems). I'm sure if I peek, she'll probably smack me upside the head! hahaha. There is another twosome scheduled to play with us...she said we'll just ignore them and we're going to tell them in advance what we're working on so we aren't a distraction. I know who we're scheduled with...they'll be listening to her as much as I will be!

Yeah, the smoke was brutal. Just putting out the flag that morning my eyes were tearing up. Apparently the wind is blowing it over the water now down in Florida, which helps us and I'm sure helps those in Florida too.

I hope everyone is well, and please keep me up to date!

My best,

Cath

Thanks Steve, thats Gidget our African Grey Parrot. Kathy taught her how to play on it. She is an attention getter. She only weighs 11 ounces, and she rules our 50 pound Belgain Malinois. Gidget is 3 and Dizzy our dog is about 16 months old. Both love attention.. Hope all of you folks are having a blast. And yes, it is fun here in Saint George.. I've never played in Vegas but we have played in Mesquite at Falcon Ridge. Beautiful Course. As I said if any of you ever are in our area let us know. It would be fun to meet ya.. Elton

I love the smell of camp fires, hahaha. But, I do not like my eyes watering, haha. As far as helping with your short game and mental prowess, that is all about practice and gaining confidence. Short game practice is a must for you get lower on your handicap. Playing with better players might help too and then asking them for help, hahaha. Hey, good luck with all that and have a good night. Later, Steve.

Steve,

Good for you! It sounds like your game is coming around...it's not always about the score. Sounds like you got your driver under control, and that is great!

I ended up not being able to play today. Yep, this is only the second time we've had that problem since I moved down here because of problems in Florida. I guess living so close to Jacksonville ( less than three hours), I forget how close we are to it. It was weird...it smelled like someone had a fireplace burning, but the visibility was awful and even when that cleared you could still smell it. I didn't think physically it was best to try and play in it.

I've been working on my mental game by thinking about playing each shot on my home course, and what it requires. I hope it helps. I lent my book about it (by Pia Nielsson...Annikas previous coach) to a friend, and haven't gotten it back yet. I hope tomorrow I can put in to play what I've been concentrating on! My mistakes are stupid...lifting my head on occasion on a chip, overswinging in the rough, etc. I'm sure it will come together at some point.

If anyone has any suggestions to help, it would be most welcome!

I hope you and everyone is doing well, and I look forward to hearing from you! BTW, I didn't get a chance to talk to John yet about what course he played....I can't wait to tell you so you can let me know all about it!

All my best,

Cath

Wow Cathy, smoke from Florida causing a smoke advisory. That must be rare, to say the least. I hope you have a good round when you're able to get out. I just got home from golfing Brushy Mountain and that course was in great shape. The greens were perfect but not extremely fast like the pros courses. I didn't play very well but managed to have an 88 with so many very bad shots. I started out spraying the ball and it took me several holes to settle down and solve my problem. I did try something on the 10th tee and kept that thought throughout the round and that was to swing hard, hahaha. That thought can get you in trouble but I wanted to try it and guess what, I started to hit the ball straight and long again. I hit the first 4 holes in regulation and I hit longer shots then normal. The remainder of the holes were good shots but I had things happen to the ball after well struck shots. Close but no cigar. Anyway, I think I'm on to something. Hahaha. Have a great day, y'all. Steve,

Sorry to hear about your final game in bowling...that's a drag, when you had been playing so well!

I wasn't able to get out and play yet today for a very unexpected reason...smoke from wildfires in Florida. When I first looked outside this morning, I thought it looked odd. Kind of like fog, but not, so I checked the weather channel to see what to expect for today and found out we had a smoke advisory! It's just cleared up in the past hour. Hoping to get out there AFTER the leagues now. Hopefully I'll run into John today or tomorrow (I tend to see him more often on Wednesday's) and can ask him which course and what tournament it was that he played up your way. He plays in some travelling leagues and in some senior amateur events, so I'm never quite sure what he's up to.

I hope everyone's day goes well (and that my mental game works with me instead of against me today)!

My best,

Cath

Cath- I wonder what golf course your friend played in while in Lenoir. Lenoir is where I live so you got that right. The courses around here do local tournaments all the time. The Lenoir Golf Club is our local one down the street from me and is in good shape. It is an old Donald Ross Golf Course and flat, but with small greens with typical Ross run offs and slopes. Some are even sloped from front to back. He always has little tricky things added to the greens. I wonder if that was the course John played. Cedar Rock is the members club that is only 15 minutes from my home and has it's own little city where they have a mayor but is part of Lenoir. I wonder if that is the one. Probably either one he played. They are no big deal golf courses though but OK. I give them both a 2.5 to 3 on a digest scale. I'm playing golf today with my neighbor and on a golf course which is only 25 minutes away but I have not played it for several years. A couple of people told me it was in great shape again. I loved it the first time I played it 6 years ago and it was in so perfect shape. I can't wait to bring what I discovered the last time I played and see if it still works. I bowled last night and shot a 629. I really blew it the last game. I shot 214 and then a 223 and the last game I had a spare and then 4 strikes in a row and then left a perfect shot 10 pin. I missed the 10 pin by 1/16 of an inch. Then the wheels came off with perfect thrown balls. The lanes broke down I didn't get it in time. I left 2 splits the last two frames with good balls. I did what I needed to do but the lanes made the ball broke too much and I got splits and ended with a 191. I think they seem to do that in the 3 game I've been noticing. I might just move in a little and throw it out further next time just to do it, hahaha. Many of the bowlers bowl out there and slow it down. Anyway, I'm digressing, haha. I hope you shoot better then your 82 mentioned. Knowing your game is better then that, you must have been a little frustrated. Stay cool and have fun. I loved watching the debates last night, BTW. We'll get the report today on our condo from our first renter. I heard they were working on the wifi and they didn't get it the first night. The compex didn't vote in the extra 9 dollars per month on the HOA fee to have it for all units and we or renters might have to pay as they use it. The HOA did say it will be better then hotels at about $5 for the week when you sign into the system. See ya, Stevegolfbowlingdog

Elton, I hope you feel better soon! I know you must be horribly frustrated. An easy swing will be better on you, and better on your scorecard...I hope you can get back out there soon. It has to be frustrating knowing you have that coming up. Hang in there, I bet ultimately you'll be much more comfortable when you play!

Steve, I'm glad you've been having so much fun! I ran into (not literally, I swear) a good friend of mine, John Donat, who just got home yesterday from playing a tournament Lenoir, NC ( I thought you live there or close to) for several days, then he played in a tournament today here at Fripp Island and here our head index was 115. Don't know how he did it, but I admit I was distracted asking him because he didn't look particularly well. I feel bad that I didn't ask, but I was more concerned about how flushed he looked, as he's in his late 60's and has had heart problems in the past. Did you all have a tournament up there that you know about? He plays with the Grasshoppers and several other leagues.

I wasn't able to play as much as I wanted this weekend, and today was just too hot and I had too many errands to run. Since Lisa went freelance, I feel the the errand girl...LOL. BTW, I love you showed the quiet sign to that guy...too funny!

I hope everybody is feeling better and doing well...I'm planning on heading out to the course at 6:30 am before all the leagues start. I shot an 82 last time I played, and it was all dumb mistakes, so I'm working on a new secret weapon (brain surgery)...LOL

My best to all!

Cath

Here it is Sunday afternoon, Kathy and I just finished at Saint George GC. played the white tees as normal. it is a 68.3/114 par 73. Kathy had a 99. And this was using a new Taylormade Driver (not going to the driving range either) I played an 87. Not bad for hernia man hahahahaha. I'm starting to feel it some know so after walking the 18 I was ready to sit on my duff! Actually I'm looking foreward to the 21st to get things back in its right place. Beautiful day here got up to 95 on the course but drank plenty of water. On the 14th tee box I could feel things moving around, but all I did was slow down my swing speed. Today I took out my 10.5 degree regular flex driver instead of my 9.5 stiff. Seemed to make things a little easier off the tee box. So, pretty soon all you'll see is tears cause I can't go out and play. I think I have one more 9 to play Wednesday nd then get ready to be repaired. Hope all of you are having a great time this weekend. Chow for know Elton

Hello and good evening! I'm back at home after a very hot in the sun afternoon at the Greater Hickory Classic. Boy, are the boys having a "Dog fight" and tomorrow will be a test of nerves. I would not be surprised if someone sees a club or two go fly'n. The last I looked or when the last group went through my hole, the 14th, there were 20 players within 4 shots of the lead. They are eating this course up. They make it look so easy. I wish I was doing the job of a walking scorer though. Maybe next year. The walking score captain, flipped me off as he walk by me at my hole, hahahaha. I held up the quiet sign while flipping him off while holding the sign, hahaha. We just started laughing. I started to kid him last year and he has not forgotten and he tries very hard to kid me and it's fun. We might play the Thistle at Tides Water at the end of this month together in Myrtle Beach. It'll be fun playing with him. I know he will just give me, sh***t all the way through the round. I'll be ready for him. Anyway, one more day and I'll look forward to walking in from the 14th hole and watch them duke it out. Have a good night, y'all. StevegolfingMarshallbowlingdog.

Steve, it sounds like a great day! I'm scheduled to play with the coach tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. I know how hard she is on people, but that's what I think I really need. That way I don't get flustered by bad attitudes.

I hope everyone is doing well for everyone, and I'm glad, Elton, that you're feeling better too. I just wanted to touch base before I got into some work I need to do tonight.

All my best to all!

Elton, it appears your hernia thing is not stopping you from golf. That's a good thing, hahaha. You burn off so many calories and will help with your weight loss program. Have fun Sunday with your play.
I worked hole 14 yesterday and no rain delay. Boy it was hot but my wife brought two little portable fans, hahaha. We shared the one where you squirt water through a little hand held bottle fan. I put ice in a towel and put it around my neck. That was way cool, literally. Bob Tway shot 61 and he got his only bogie on our hole. He lipped out his putt to save par. Off to do it again today. I really wished I were doing the walking scorer thing again this year though. Yea Elton, they are amazing how they strike the ball and they make it look so effortless. Have a great day y'all.

Thanks Cath, we'll be on the course this Sunday. The 21st will come and go. And all will be better. From what the doc says within 2 weeks all should be pretty normal. Have a great weekend! Elton

Well Steve, best with the hip. It must be a blast to be on course with the pros. I'm still amazed on the control and how far these people can hit the ball. Have fun, and get better soon!

My hip is doing fine for now and I probably could have done the walking scorer gig, but I asked to change to a Marshall on hole 14. Larry, the head person for the walking scorers now calls me a wooosy, hahaha. It's all good and we are friends. We hope to play the Tides courses together while in MB at the end of this month. He is a member of those courses. Thistle is one that he says is great and I can't wait.
I hope that coach thing helps. It's hard to make advancements to lower your handicap when it's as low as yours.
I did work the 14th hole yesterday and we got a "Evacuation" horn due to lightning and we got the go ahead to just leave. We were there for about 3 hours in the heat, non the less. I see that the same thing might happen for all the rest of the tournament. I hope not. I talked with Fuzzy and Mark O'mera when they went through. They were both very talkative. I think we got Fuzzy to attend by promoting his "Fuzzy vodka" he makes or it is his own brand. Today, the tournament really begins and It is going to be hot.
Have a good day

Elton, I hope you're surgery is very successful. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

Steve, I'm worried about your hip. BTW, if there is anyone you want an autographed ball from, Lisa has a contact in case you're not able to get out there. Just let me know whom you'd like! (Personally, I have so much Annika stuff I think it scares other people...and that's before we met him.)

I hope everyone feels better soon! I didn't play today, but I am scheduled for the morning with a an ex golf coach, so I'm looking forward to it.

All my best,

Cath

ELTON- I hope your hernia operation works out perfectly and it helps your slice, haha! It sounds like you are having a ball playing golf. It sure is a hard game to stay consistent, isn't it. Today, my wife and I will be on hole 14 at the Greater Hickory Classic golf tournament in Conover, NC. I was going to be a walking scorer but I became afraid that I could not walk all 18 with my hip pain. So, I went to green area on hole 14 instead. I'm not happy with that because walking along side the pros is just too much fun and you get a signed autographed golf ball from each golfing. I have over 20 golf balls now in my collection doing this. I won't be able to golf until next week sometime. Enjoy your golf everyone, Stevegolfbowlingdog

Well, here it is Thursday the 9th of June already. Went to the doc and on the 21st its hernia repair time. She says 2 weeks of work and do alot of walking. So, "Dizzy" the dog will keep her dad moving while I'm off. So, it looks there will be a couple of more golf outings before the knife. Maybe it will sraighten up my slice! Yesterday was Dixie red hills here in Saint George. Shot a 43. I had a malfunction between the ground and my club starting at hole number 7 I was 3 over and then it happened two triples... but on the 9th got out my trusty 5 wood and hit the bll down the tube... Sweet come back for par. Its a bitter sweet game, the best part. I can always share the sport with my bride. Sunday back to Saint George GC for more fun..Hope everyone is getting out in nice weather Low of 57 and highs around 90 here in Saint George. Elton

Steve,

I know you're not happy with how you bowled or golfed (on your latest outing), but Tanglewood did sound really interesting. Thank you for sharing about it! I think sometimes a short course can cause even more havoc than a long one, especially when the greens are slow, as you mentioned. I'm sorry you have to score more points, but it maybe you shouldn't play so well? emoticon

I hope you're doing well. Lisa is swamped with business journal work right now (for at least the next three weeks), so I'm not sure when the next golf trip will be. It's weird getting used to your home course again. The owner will be gone quite a bit in the next month, so I have the (unlucky) priviledge of decided where the tee box placements will be. It's amazing how mad people can get over a five yard difference!

I didn't play today, was mostly running for groceries and playing step-and-fetch-it for Lisa, but I am hoping to get out in the morning. My chipping is going extremely well, and I'd like to work more on my long irons as I'm pulling a bit left. I know it's my setup, but I need to be more conscious of it when I'm not in competition. I'm also looking at having my swing evaluated, but I'll save that story for another day. I really want to get under a 5 handicap!

I hope you're doing well, and look forward to hearing for you!

Cath emoticon

Well, I golfed Tanglewood, Reynolds course. It was very nice and hard but short. For a public course, it was so beautiful with all the hills and ponds and some lakes. There were a lot of ruff spots though. Around the greens there were a lot of bare spots and crud. The fairways were OK but not many had a defined first cut of ruff. There were lots of bunkers strategically placed. There were so many dog legs from right to left and left to right throughout the round. The greens were in great shape but were a little slow and had to get it too the hole, especially on those 2 tiered greens. I shot 88 and I actually played awful. I did find something the last 3 holes and it, to me, is big. I started to hit the balls straight and solid. The temp. got to about 95 and was really hot on the back 9. So, there she be and y'all have a great day. Stevegolfbowlingdog

Cathy, the index going up is good which means I played better then my handicap, but it means I have to play better the next time in order to get the same number of points. We keep track of points, ya know, 2 for par, 1 for bogie, 3 for birdie, and 4 for eagle etc. It works out nicely. All the courses have these types of indexed dog fights. I can play Mon. through Fri. between 4 courses that are about 20 minutes apart. It's great. Too bad about that girl who just quit. What a baby, haha. Too bad you lost but It's all fun in reality. I am golfing tomorrow and I'll let you know how it went. I am going to take notes because I'm playing in that senior State tournament in Sept. I bowled tonight and boy I feel unlucky. My score was under my average and I stuck so many taps it made me sick, hahaha. Anyway, that's bowling. Like I said before, bowling is way more frustrating then golf. I had fun non the less. My bowling made me feel like I came up short so my name today is....... See ya later, Steve.

Stevewithtoomanynamestocount,

Do let me know how the course was! Hopefully we'll get up there at some point and I always like hearing about new courses. I'm sorry your index went up...mine is climbing as well as I had gotten out of practicing like I was previously. I hate playing to it all the time though in those blitzes.

I unfortunately didn't score against the gals, but I kept it close and felt I played some great golf...lost by 2 on the front, and 1 on the back. We play straight up on team one, no handicaps, which was difficult when one has a lower handicap than I, and the other gal was the same as mine. I'm not too upset, though. I had a great time, and enjoyed their company. (It was weird though...all three of us are Catherines! I'm sure you could imagine the confusion...LOL) We were short handed this year due to some injuries and overall health problems, and a gal who, after signing up, refused to play because our team doesn't tend to win overall. Even after we had committed to the tournaments, she just up and quit. It works out though...nobody wants wants to play with her--she's rather rude.. I hear she's leaving our club to go back to a different one where she has the lowest handicap. She gets so angry that I'm 5 strokes below her. Long story, and I won't bore you more than I already have with it.

I hope you're getting a chance to get out there and play! How has your weather been? I've been meaning to write, but when Lisa returned it got rather hectic. I hope things are going well up your way, and look forward to hearing from you!

Well Cath, how'd ya do? I hope you got at least one point, haha. It sounds like a fun league you are involved in. Why, might I ask, did 2 girls drop out? It just seems like too much fun and not a regular thing to do. I love playing in challenging events like y'all are doing. I played in my men's dog fight yesterday and I was so happy. I played well and I was hitting the ball like I'm used to when I play well. I was afraid I was losing it completely. I am so happy now, LOL. I shot 83, but I didn't win any money. Oh well. My index went up by one. I hate it when I play well and my team mates don't and my index goes up. I wished it went down, haha, (not really). My best drive was on the last hole too. I usually start to fade by then. I'm playing on Tuesday at Tanglewood's Reynolds golf course. It's not the championship course but I hear it's hard and nice, as well. They are working on the championship course and is closed. No matter, I've never played that one so I'm looking forward to playing it. I'll let you know how the conditions are. I read bad reviews on the courses there because the greens were horrible. I asked the proshop and he said they were in great shape. We'll see!! I've heard that story before. Later and have a good day. BTW, I went to a wedding today at our church and it was so nice. Everyone was invited and they spared nothing at the reception in the outside garden after the ceremony. It was the best breakfast fingerfood buffet I've ever been to. I'm an ex general manager of a restaurant too that did catering. Boy it was good. No dieting today, hahaha. By now, Stevegolfdogbackinthesaddle

I'm so glad you've seen the doctor. I promise to quit nagging now. LOL I wish I could have played Coeur d'Alene too...this is a FAM trip, which is for writer's exclusively. I am enjoying the pics she's sending back though. Her flight returns late tomorrow so I'm sure I'll hear even more about it.

Well, tomorrow is the last day I play on my own in the tournaments. It's nice that it's my home course, so at least I have a fighting chance and I don't have to travel too much. I'm hate to say it, but I'm looking forward to the end of it. I didn't sign up, but two gals dropped out and I've been a stand in. I just couldn't see letting the league down.

You have it so right about everybody having to bowl on the same lanes. I'm keeping you in my thoughts that you continue to play so well!

Time for me to grab a bite and head to bed before the craziness tomorrow. I hope all is well!

My best,

The pain issue is OK right now but my body, at my age, just has a lot of pain. I entered into this clinical research trial again for arthritic pain and it's 3 different anti-inflammatory and I got one of them. I don't know which one. I was taking a combination of tylonal and ibuprofen that seemed to help with my over all body pain but I had to stop taking that and just go to what they gave me. What I've been taking for the last 1.5 months is not working at all. But this last issue was a pull or tear in my right hip area and it's gotten a lot better so that scare is gone. We'll see how stiff my body is when I play Friday. My bowling is fine. It's hard for me to bowl badly because I have that game down. hahaha. The lane conditions do affect everyone who bowls though and can help make someone look not as good as they may be. I usually can still bowl at least a 190+ on bad conditions. Anyway, I just got my X-rays of my two hips and they look good with no signs of wearing. I might be able to get a hydrocodone pain medicine and still be within the tolerance of the trial I'm in they tell me. Next meeting, I might get some break out medicine, as they call it. Thanks for your concern. That golf course in Idaho was one I really wanted to play. It's the one with that movable island green and it looks so beautiful. I can't believe the courses y'all review. How cool is that? Enjoy, stevegolfbowlingdogdoingok.

I'm so sorry, Steve, I know where your condo is, and I had a massive brain fart and called it the wrong thing!

I'm a little worried about you having so much pain. As my doc tells me, if it starts to hurt, then you need to stop! I hope the golfing goes well..just be sure not to sway. It's a swing killer, and also leads to a lot of pain. (I only say that because Lisa has a problem with it.)

I'm sorry you didn't bowl as well as you liked...sounds like it's an ongoing problem. Have you seen a doc about it yet?

Oh, I meant to tell you...I play played okay on the 5,100 course as my home course is even longer than that...it sits near 5,300 with all four par 3's near 120 yards from the front tees. I probably have mentioned before, but it certainly has helped my chipping and lag putting. Bad tee shot, you know you'll be chipping...good tee shot still is almost impossible for me to stick it close.

I really want to play Tanglewood, but we do get kind of stuck of with the courses we get assigned. Basically, if they're with golfnow.com, we get to do them. Right now a guy who is a DJ up in MB is doing some reviews in the area, but I don't see him lasting long. He has worked for them in the past but it take him weeks to post the story. We'll see. When Lisa gets back from (and yes, I'm going to screw the spelling up..Couer d'Alene in Idaho) we need to sit down and see was is working and what isn't. She is doing that trip as a favor for one of the VP's at the Golf Channel. I'm really proud she's getting all the accolades, but we have to make sure we can meet the bills.

I'm sorry, I just rambled on, didn't I? I'm sorry the bowling didnt' go as well as you hoped, but I know you'll get it back. It is hard to play well when you're helping someone else. I'm still looking forward to heading to MB and getting some lessons from you!

I hope that things are going okay (but I do hope you see the doc), and I look forward to hearing from you, Stevebowlingolfdogwiththehipthatsworrying me!

All my best to you and your DW,

Cath

It's Surfside Beach! I think Sunset is in the northern part of MB. I did bowl yesterday and my 2nd game was a 238 with leaving 3-10 pins. almost a 290 game. I went from my urethane ball to the reactive resin ball in that game. The angle into the pocket with the Urethane ball was weak and I left 4 10 pins in that game and the shot looked like no-way to carry so I went to the more hooking ball in the 2nd game. In league or a tournament, you usually find that out quickly. In practice, you start right in with even warming up. It takes me about 5 frames to get my muscles working and finding the true condition and a close shot. The other two were in the 190's. I started to give lessons to this one guy struggling and I sort of lost my concentration. When I bowl seriously, I really concentrate on what I'm trying to do. You have to be aware when to make subtle changes to your stance and point of throw etc. One's home is always work in progress. I need to do some work on mine today, as well. I want to golf this week and see how my swing is. The last time I played, I was starting to swing erratic and my right hip started to hurt in a way that scared me. It's gotten better but I'm still concerned. I'm going to golf in the men's shoot out this Friday and I'll find out how my swing is. I looked and felt pathetic the last time out. My hip has bothered me enough to switch from being a walking scorer for the Champions tour in a week and go to a greens Marshall around the 14th hole. I really, really wanted to walk with the pros and keep their scores too. We had this volunteer appreciation party last Monday and they really put on a great show and BBQ with band. They did a fireworks show after dinner and it was just like the 4th of July. You and Lisa should review their course. It is semi-private and one of the best 2 courses you can find. You can do Tanglewood GC down the street too. Well, about 30 miles away. How did you play on that course that was 5100 yards long you stated? Anyway, have fun and talk to y'all later.

Elton, I hope your hernia heals quickly! That has to be very frustrating. Do take care of yourself...doing too much isn't worth the long term aggravation!

Steve, I'm not sure yet when we're back to MB area...every time I think I DO know, the Golf Channel changes it. Maybe they have the remote instead of me? hahahaha I'll definitely get in touch with you as soon as I know what's up. How is the bowling going, or have you had a chance to get on the lanes since you've been to Sunset this past week?

I did practice for nine holes today as I found out I have to play Friday again on my own, but it was really hot and humid. Normally that doesn't bother me, but without any breeze and me not playing as much lately, I think it just got to me. I'm not complaining..I did manage to shoot a 39 on the hardest nine here.

Sorry I've been missing in action again...since Lisa started freelancing, I'm finding I'm doing a lot more work than I did previously. I just tend to get worn out faster than I would think I would and I've been trying to get things done around the house that I've let go longer than I'd like.

I hope everyone is doing well, and I'll try and do better about staying in touch!

Cath

Elton- 86 is a great score and nothing to scough about. Shooting an 86 is playing golf with a lot of fun. You get to use every club in your bag and you still get to look for golf balls when a couple went into the tundra, haha. If you come back with more balls then you started with, you win! I'm glad you are having fun with your golf game and I hope your hernia pain goes away. Steve

Well Steve, I had to have one more outing, today at Saint George GC had a great day 86 on a par 72. Thats great for me. I figure within the week it will be doctor time and the knife to fix tis hernia. Then who knows how long for it to heal. Beautiful days winds 6 to 7 mph, perfect 75/80 degrees. Just got to love Saint George. Hope all of you are having a great day. Elton

ELTON- You need to take it easy and don't over do it. I'm sure you've heard that before, haha. Hernias can stay with you and you can develop complications. Do what the doc tells you, hahaha. I just got home this afternoon after a very long 6 days of just working on the condo in Surfside Beach, SC. It is now ready for renters. We only have few things to go through now. We need to thin out the cupboards. There is just too much stuff and way too many glasses and plates and cups. There is too many pots and pans to choose from. There still some stuff that we will take out to give it more room I think but all in all, it is very nice.
Catherine- Let me know when you may want to use it? We decided to offer it to you and Lisa for $50 per night since you need to make a living off what you guys do and need cheaper rent. We can handle the lower rate for now. I hope that works for y'all. Anyway, hit'm straight and get lots of practice in. I'm afraid my game has gone south due to all the pain and stiffness I'm having now. The last time I played I got so afraid of how I was flailing out there. Good night, Stevegolfbowlingdog.

Well, here it is May 29th, just played 18 with my bride (Kathy) and Bob my golfing buddy. Played a pretty good round considering I'm the new owner of a hernia. So, I guess the golf will be limited in a week or so. Played at Sunbrook GC here in Saint George par 72 68.7 / 123 rating shot a 91. It was fun winds in the teeens. Finally hit my drive good, not perfect but I never am. Tomorrow we'll be playing Saint George GC. Golfing days are limited cause that abdominal surgey will be coming soon. Hope all of you are havin a great time. Seems Steve is having the most! Elton

Yeah, that would be nice if our timing works out being here. We will be here on the last week of June until July 2nd. Sat. to Sat. I'd like to golf instead of working on projects. I got the Laundry room done and put the combo washer and drying in it. I found that the left water faucet is the cold side and switched them. The left side is always the hot side. Not here though. I'll have to do it over tomorrow. We are leaving on Saturday afternoon sometime. I can't wait to do a load of laundry and see how well it works. It was used but it is a commercial grade one and looks like it is new. Too bad you didn't take those two down, hahaha. I'm sure you gave it your all. Have a good night Cath. Steve.

Steve, that's great about the bowling!

I'm sorry the condo is being such a pain in the whattosee. It will be done soon, and then you can just enjoy your time there.

Golf went as expected, but I'm pretty pleased. I lost by one hole on the front and 2 on the back...against two very good players, it's not so bad.

I admit I'm exhausted tonight, but I wanted to touch base with ya.

Take care, and Stevedog, dont' hurt yourself with all that work! I look forward to getting together with you and your DW when we head there next!

Yes Cathy, we got down here at around 10:30pm and I didn't settle down until midnight. We had a lot to unload late at night. I don't like making noise that late but, oh well! We had to bring a heavy XL thick twin mattress up that stairs, a heavy ladder, a large strap type dolly and so much stuff. I can't wait for the time we can just come on down. We got a notice a couple of days ago that we are all being assess a fee of $300 per month for 6 months, due to the pool and spa and other maintenance fees. We are not happy with that idea at all, hahaha. Anyway, welcome to condoworld. I went and bowled with our senior group at 11am yesterday before I left to come here. I shot 674 for my 3 games. I am throwing the ball so well it is making me sick, haha. I might even be bowling better then I was 18 years ago. I was drinking then and having too much fun to be able to concentrate like I can now, hahaha. Anyway, I am about ready to go out and buy dinner and bring it back. We need to replace the vacuum that came with the unit. It just sucks, or should I say it doesn't suck. I've taken it apart and can't find any leaks or clogs either. I'm checking out craigslist right now. We left late yesterday because we had to pick up our uniforms for the Hickory Classic Golf Tournament at around 3pm.
Well, I hope you play well. Remember to not worry and just pull the trigger and the balls goes up, up and away onto the green. Yeap, that's all it is, hahaha. Yea, right!!! Play well my friend, Stevegolfbowlingdog. I'm off to get the $5 special of bang bang shrimp from Bonefish grill. That is just down the street and my favorite restaurant.

Well, today I putted and I putted and I putted. (No, I didn't triple putt...I was practicing.) emoticon

I just found out that tomorrow morning I again have to play match play against two opponents (the better of their two scores against mine). That is absolutely mentally exhausting. I'm fine for about nine or ten holes, but the pressure to not hit any bad shots really does get to me. To make it even more fun, it's a course I've not played before--Bray's Island. Not saying I'm going to lose, but I can't say I'm looking forward to it either. The ladies at our club have been quite injury prone this past few weeks, so we're really hurting...that, and a lot of people already back up north.

Okay, I am going to re-adjust my attitude. I'm going to have a good time, enjoy a new course, and just play as best I can! It's a bit shorter than my home course at 5,100 yards, and it has huge greens so that will make it interesting. No three putts and I just may do pretty well! Please send postive thoughts my way tomorrow morning!

I hope everything is going well for all of you.

My best,

Cath

ps--Steve, did you get down to the condo? If you did, I suspect you're awfully busy...

That's great, Steve! You're bowling extremely well, and I hope you heal up enough to get out on the course! And yes, I do know what you mean about the doors...I'm sure they look fine now, but I'm sure that the change would brighten up the place. We are thinking about renting our house out in the future if we keep travelling so much, so we spent a lot of the weekend trying to get all kinds of outdoor work done while the weather was calm. BTW, I HATE wasp nests.

I have to say, playing in a match play tournament where each team gets to use their best score, and you're playing against a team by yourself, is way more mentally exhausting than I would have expected. I knew it would be physically, but I hadn't anticipated the rest. I didn't expect to win (and I didn't), but coming within one stroke of a tie on the front was pretty cool. The gals I played against were really nice, and gave me a lot of credit for doing it on my own. Team 1 (which I played) has to play scratch golf, and one of the gals had a 4 handicap, so I felt I hung in there pretty well. It gave the rest of my team a chance to score by me being on my own since we only had five players last week and are anticipating the same this week. Back at it this Thursday at Bray's Island, and I'll be interested to see how it goes. I went out today and practiced a bit over nine holes...don't know how your weather is, but it was 90 and very humid today. Thank goodness for the fans in my cart.

Other than the slowest flu recovery in history on my part, things are doing okay here. Lisa is heading to Idaho next week for another media trip golf outing...I admit I'm starting to get a bit envious. ;-)

I'm glad the condo is coming around for you, and I hope your washer/dryer didn't walk off to another room! (Which is what my washer seems to want to do every single time I put in the comforter...hahaha)

Take care, and I definitely will try and post more often. Thanks for saying i was missed...it means a lot!

My best,

Cathfeelslikeadogbutcan'tquitplaying

My hip is better and I bowled in league tonight. It was a prebowl thing because we can not bowl this coming Monday. I shot a 236, 233 and a 226. I almost got a 700 series. I stuck a solid 8 pin in the 10th frame for a total let down. I'm happy though. Have a good night and happy spark'n. Stevegolfbowlingdog.

CATHY- I'm sorry you've been sick lately. You were missed. My hip/leg is almost well enough to go and hit some golf balls around. I will be bowling in this pre-bowl league deal tonight and I should be OK for that. I'm looking forward to your report on how your golf tournament went and all. We are going to our Surfside Beach condo this coming Tuesday so we can get the washer/dryer combo back into the laundry room. Right now, it is standing in our living room waiting for us. That should do it for being able to rent it out. We have friends using it in the end of the first week of June. I'm sure the condo will always be work in progress. I really want to replace all the doors. Right now, they are the old brown thin veneer type. They are OK but I'd like to put in those predesigned white ones with those square cutouts. Ya know what I mean? That alone will help change the overall look. Anyway, I hope you're feeling better now. Happyspark'n, Stevegolfbowlingdoggie

WTG, Steve! I'm really proud of you bowling so well, even though you were hurting. I'm impressed!

I've had a bout of the flu, so I've been out of commission a bit. tomorrow I'll try to get on and tell you about the golf tournament I played in.

I hope all is doing well, and I'll touch base ASAP!

I think I hurt my right hip area more then I thought. I'm limping around since Fridays golfing round.
I had to bowl in that Senior Games Competition yesterday in the singles and then the mixed doubles with my DW. I limped my way to the gold medal in the singles for my division. I'm in the youngest one of 55 to 59 age group. I shot 648 for my three games to win first place. We got a free donated lunch for everyone from The Olive Garden. That was very nice of them to do that for us. There were probably over 200 people participating so it's a big deal and goes National after the State finals. My wife and I ended up taking 3rd place bronze medal so she is in the State finals in Raleigh, NC, as well. Now she won't just have to watch me and root me on only. She is playing in it too. How cool is that. We have 9 of us in our bowling establishment who got medals and we are all going to the State finals in Sept. We are all excited to go. We have a great senior group at Bo's Entertainment Center. I'm glad I am not in the older group though because there were PBA professionals bowling in it. One guy, who was in his 70's, bowled a perfect "300" game and a 804 series. Those are the holy grail of bowling feats. Two others bowled over 700 series and one guy shot a 288 game and blew the perfect game on his 2nd shot in the 10th frame. I shot 608 my last series with my wife. I was in so much pain and limping along with my wife. She just got off of wearing her air boot they call it for he sprained ankle. She too was in pain. We were the perfect couple limping around together. I can't believe we both did so well. We are lucky ducks, hahaha. I had to cancel me being a walking scorer for the Hickory Classic Champions tour in a couple of weeks and change to a Marshall due to my hip problem. I am afraid I can not walk the course right now and it won't heal in time. I do have the option to go do the walking if it gets better. I'm very upset about that. I loved walking along side the pro's and getting the exercise. Happy Spark'n y'all,
Stevegolfbowling dog

Thank you guys for your kind words. I golfed today in my men's dog fight. The guy in my golf cart was soooooo good. He shot just one under par but had so many birdies. He really could of had a great score but blew it. I've played with a lot of golfers that were good but this guy was for real. I had a blast to say the least. I played alright but my body gave out on me. I got sorer and stiffer to the extant that I could hardly swing the club towards the end. I think I've done too much this week with bowling and hitting buckets of golf balls etc. I'm going to two college graduations out of town this weekend and it should be fun with my wifes family. I bowl in a new league that starts Monday and it's the better player league that is sanctioned. My wife is going to bowl in it with me too. She is afraid that she is not good enough. It's handicapped and now worries I and others have told her. Oh, she will love it once she gets going. I got her listening to me now and she is learning a better way to bowl, hahaha. Have fun and too bad you didn't play well today. Losing by one inch hurts donit! Haha. or doughnut! Have a good night y'all. Stevegolfbowlingdog

Steve, that's awesome...your'e my hero! I'm sorry I've been away so much, there has been a LOT going on lately. Last week I ended up winning the longest drive as I knew, but I missed the closest to the pin by ONE INCH. Ach! I did win a very nice golf shirt though. Usually they give us more but the economy is hurting everybody.

Today I played in a interclub tournament. I didn't play my best, but the conditions were horrible. No grass ANYWHERE. So I didn't win, but it still was nice to get out there. And between my play today and watching the Player's, I'm much more motivated to practice. That's something I seriously needed.

I'm glad you're getting so much done! I really don't know how you find the time...

Turtle, I'm glad to see you're posting! Sounds like you're having a great time, and I think that's the most important thing.

Oh yes, in fact, we DID play in the rain and wind the other day. It was really brutal and hard to stay warm. Today it was 90 and humid....go figure, eh?

I hope you all are doing well, and look forward to keeping in better touch!

Hit em straight--and if you don't, I hope you find them!
emoticon

All my best to both of you,

Cath

I golfed today in the Senior National wide competition at Rock Barn, Jackson course. The weather turned out to be so perfect with no wind and about 80 degrees. I really had a great swing on the front 9 and then I lost it. I started to chunk chunk and more chunk the ball. I shot 41, 47. I needed to shoot at the highest 88 to quality for the State finals at Tanglewood GC In Winston Salam. I ended up taking 2nd place and I was very surprised with my low score but I am in the State finals and am very excited. Have a good night, Steve

I am golfing tomorrow and I'm hoping that the weather cooperates. It is calling for possible thunder and lighning.

Well, today I bowled in this Senior Games competition and I bowled in the doubles today. Next week I bowl with my DW and singles. It goes State wide and then onto Nationals. There must have been over 100 people bowling in this scratch competition with three levels of age groups. I bowled a 175, 195, 235 for a 605. My partner, who averages 160, bowled 549 in series and one game was a 210. It was so frustrating for me, due to the fact I left 11 10 pins, one 7-10 split, 2 4 pins, 2 7 pins and a 9 pin all in the pocket. I tried everything getting a better angle into the pocket. I went just to my plastic ball and same thing. I struck out with 7 strikes in a row with going back to my resin ball. The lanes broke down for me to have a better ball finish I guess on the last game. Anyway, my bowling partner and I ended up getting the gold medal for first place in the 50-59 division and now we go on to the State finals. We had 9 bowlers from our senior league I bowl in it and everyone Placed in the top 3 spots. We all went to Olive Garden for lunch and wore our medals proudly. We all get to go to the State finals. How cool is that? Happy Spark'n and bowling y'all. BTW, I golf tomorrow in the games competition. Wish me luck!

I love indoor golf like you get in Arizona but I know all about wind. When I lived on the East coast, I went to Hawaii for my golf vacations and the trade winds were amazing. It got so windy there, that the flags would be laying on the green when you hit up. I love hitting with the wind like you say. It's the holes into the wind and to watch your ball baboon. You have to keep your hands forward when hitting into the wind I have found. I put the ball back a little in my stance and hands forward and sort of punch the ball. Hahahaha, hey, have lots of fun and I'm glad your wife held her own. Have a good night y'all. Stevegolfbowlingdog

Well, lite winds as we started our golf today at Saint George GC, yep you guessed it about the 3rd hole winds in the high 20's one has to love golf or be really _ _ _ _ _ _ . Well, my bride was nice enough to go through the windy 18 holes.. We both shot 101. on the par 71. Into the wind maybe hit the driver 200 yards but down wind.. Get the ball up in sky and watch it fly away.. One hit was 295 yards... (winds at 25 at least) So, we made it through. The day before 90 degrees and 3 to 5 mph breezes. But, I must say it built allot of character.
Hope you ladies had a great mothers day.

Yep, duck tape, one of my favorite all around fixer uppers. I love WD-40 for those rusted nuts and bolts. I call it holy water, haha. Do not forget JB Weld. That is good sticky hard stuff. I used it once to fix a radiator leak and it worked. Anyway, that leak is very small and drips into a drain so nothing really to worry about. I bet it only leaks about a thimble full once per day. We turn the water off when we leave for safety with no one around. My DW is still working on curtains, hahaha. She is into total blackness when she sleeps and she has been changing out black out curtains and liners etc. I love our new kitchen faucet. It's amazing how just a little thing like that makes the area look better. The one I took out was probably 20+ years old I betcha. I put up a very nice light fixture in the bathroom, but a strip of missing wall paper shows from the old fixture. It still looks and feels better with better lighting. The next easy thing will be to replace all the doors. The ones are OK but all brown with that solid light weight veneer. It's just looks out of date and new white doors with those cut out designs are an easy and nice way to improve the overall look. I don't know when we will get around to that. We still are drying out the laundry room and the combo stacked washer and drying is sitting in the living room. We need to put a new floor down in that room. I pulled up the old one. I've run out of time this trip because we are leaving tomorrow. We have mothers day and my DW's dads birthday is Saturday.
OK, longest drive you say. How far to you hit your drives? I used to hit my 3 wood 235 but now it's only about 200 and my drives are only about 240. My drives just suck right now. I need to go to the driving range. Did you play in that torrential ran? Tell me what you have won. Well Cath, have a good night. I'm tired too. Steve
