Things at the dojo continue to grow and do well, larger classes and students progressing. Good times!

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!

How's it going team? Class last night was amazing, very high energy and we've had enough instructors that ranks are staying at their skill level instead of upper ranks helping lower, so our advanced material is gaining at a rapid rate.

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!

Thank you! I'll start focusing a lot more on high intensity interval training.
Our dojo will often meet at a restaurant after class, a couple times a month. Food, lots of water because we just worked out and any other beverage people might be in the mood for. In many ways we are family, our club grows because people hear us discussing the group, fun, and close friendships and decide to check it out.

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

HI kiaya,

my experience was be prepared for 'bursts'.

At a week retreat years ago, we flew in the seniors from Okinawa. While their English was non existent, they really did train us quite well.

One of the guys did a Kata, and then made each of us touch his chest and feel his heart. He got across that at the end of the Kata our heart should be screaming, I'm guessing he was up around 170.

What I've found over the years is that the training is not like running, but more, intense work for 10-15 minutes, followed by lots of explanation and lower intensity stuff. So once I learned to handle the burst well, I did great. Another example is when they'll have each person do the kata alone with others watching to learn from each other. Go like heck for a few seconds, and then 10-20 minutes of down time.

One of the things that used to happen at our school is on the night of the most senior class, after the class, about half of us would site outside ummmm, drinking pop, yea pop.

However, we did have some amazing philisophical discussions about the art. (Also people would try sneaking up on each other from behind when joining the group and other similar pranks.)

This kind of bonding meeting played out over years, did translate back into the dojo.

I would suggest, pick one night a month or a week that you know a lot of folks are going to class, and then have a time about 1/2 hour after that class and a room where everyone gets together and just chats about their art with each other.

You'll need food or pop to get them to show up and relax.

I would like to help share self defense across my college campus. I am the public relations officer for the karate club at my school and I'd like to see the club grow.

I'll be traveling to Japan in May with a group of artists from our dojos across the US. In preparation I've revamped my nutrition plan and I'm increasing my training little by little each day so my body can take the traditional Japanese training for several hours a day. We'll be there the 18th-30th, will be very intense!

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!
