Thanks for sharing. I don't tend to know what is in the magazines unless I hear someone else talking about it.

You're welcome!

I buy this magazine weekly as well. And, I've used several of their strategies in weight loss and in maintenance.

There was a Dr. Oz article over a year ago that suggested having only 2 menu choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The reason? Fewer choices mean people are more apt to stick with their diet. One of the dinner menu choices was 4-6 oz of chicken breast or fish with 1 TBS of BBQ sauce, 1 baked potato w/ 1 tsp light margarine, salad w/ inseason veggies, and steamed in season veggies. So, if you switch up your in-season veggie choices you'll get plenty of variety.

He then said, at the end of 2-weeks, choose 2 more menu choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I find that if I tell myself, "You can put that on the menu and have it in two weeks, I often lose the craving before then making it DOUBLY easy to stick to the diet."

He also said in the previous article, take a 30 minute walk EVERY day. No excuses! Now that's also cheap! LOL.

My menus include starting out a meal with homemade veggie soup w/ one fat serving which helps curb appetite and an apple which works better and cheaper than the drug Alli...saving me even MORE money.

Yes, I save all the diet articles in a binder. I love 'em.

There's ann article on Dr. Oz's $1 A Day Diet in Women's World Weekly.

It's got 3 days worth of menus, tips on how to save money at the grocery store (for example: chicken breast goes on sale every 2 weeks SOMEWHERE), and tips on feeling full.

The women that tested the diet were given $35 worth of groceries to eat with for the week. They spent less than half of what they usually spent and lost up to 7 lbs in a week.

Think of the savings not only in dollars but in lower health costs and time spent going to the doctor!!! Win Win.

They also suggest using grocery comparision sites such as: www.MyGroceryDeals.com
www.grocerypricebooks.com
www.groceryguide.com

as well as www.couponmom.com which nnot only offers you coupons and other deals but tells you when you should use that coupon to get the rock bottom price - for FREE. Unlike the grocery game which charges a fee - albeit a rather small one.

If I had ONE criticism, it is that they didn't mention beans in the article. Beans are a low cost protein source and can be counted as a starch on some programs. If you are following a program such as South Beach phase 1, you can still use these menus; just substitute a serving of beans for the whole wheat bread mentioned. Simple.

Anyway, since some of us are trying to improve our finances AND our body weight, I thought I'd pass along the article. It's in the March 28th issue which should be on sales through this coming Sunday.
