I challenged myself to run a 5K in my town and not finish last. Watching my time get a little faster motivates me to keep going. I still do walk part of the way but those walking spurts are getting fewer and farther between.

Hi,
I just joined this group and I'm a running Virgin! I'm interested but have no idea where to start. I have runner friends but they are all way advanced. The extend of my running history has been gym class or sport warm up basically I was in the field part of track&field. I figure this is something I should get into cause I can do it just about anywhere and anytime, with no gym or club costs. So here is my info:

8. What made you decide to lose weight? I know I need to lose weight and that it gets harder the older you get. But nothing seems to motivate me like my daughter or the prospect of getting pregnant again. I know I need to be healthier for a pregnancy and to keep up with my kid. So I joined sparkpeople via a friends recommendation about a month ago and have done well so far. Now it's time to step it up.

I have been trying to loose the weight for a long time. Started at 225 lbs out of college. Got sick lost all of that weight, the wrong way mind you. Go married and had my kids and being the determined person I can be I made sure after each I lost the weight. First one was easy, the middle child it took 5 years to get it off and right when I was almost there! I got pregnant with the 3rd! BUT I knew how to get the weight off I just had to get my butt in gear and actually exercise with eating right! Drinking a lot of water helps. Portioning helps too! I WANT TO BECOME A PERSONAL TRAINER and I am almost there!! 18 lbs left. I started running and loving it! Exercise with my EA Active on the Wii. Love that it kicks my butt! BUT the biggest thing is my Lord and Saviour! If it wasn't for him well I would still be Fat. : )

So I'm Lycabel, usually goes by Lyce. I'm 24, I live in a small town south of Quebec (Canada). I'm a student, I'll become a secretary or something else in 2 years.

I began this journey last December. I've always loved the feeling of running but I though my knees wouldn't allow me to run. I'm not aiming to do any races and anyway, I'm not good at competition lol =) Maybe I'll change my mind but anyway.

I want to lose the other half of my weight loss goal, read 40 pounds, by next January. So I got to find new ways to exercise.

Jeff Galloway has an excellent website (and books) for runners. He has training schedules for runnning, or walking, 5K, 1/2 marathons or marathons. He is big on doing it without injury and has many tips on that. Google his name and you should come up with the site.

I have always wanted to be a runner, but didn't have the motivation or positive mind set to stick with it. Today I ran for 20 min. I would love to be able to run for a solid 30-40min. and eventually enter a 5k. I don't know how to control the breathing, any suggestions or tips?

Hi All! I just celebrated my 54th Birthday. I have decided that I want to run! I was down and out summer of 06, with Lyme Disease, and have slowly been crawling my way back to life. I was so into fitness after my first 4 kids,, I dropped 80 lbs and got really heavy into Bodysculpting - I felt great, young and energetic, I stopped smoking 7 yrs ago and since then my weight has been creeping up - just had a baby again and now I just feel fat, sluggish and unmotivated, and I know it's making me depressed as well.. so I'm hoping to get to the point where I feel sexy again ~ and perhaps next summer at age 39 put myself back into a Bikini ~ but most of all, to feel healthy again. I used to run 5 miles 5 days per week, now I can't even get myself motivated to go for a brisk walk .

8.What made you decide to lose weight? Just want to be fitter, more toned and live a healthier and happier life. My father died of a heart attack 4 years ago(at the age of 56) and I don't want to leave my children that I'll have one day at such a young age. So staying heart healthy and fit is the only way to do that.

I've always power walked, biked or roller-bladed but I've recently started to get in to running and I love it. So I am excited about being in this group with you all....I know we can all benefit from eachothers' support.

8. What made you decide to lose weight? The conviction that I needed to be disciplined in every area of my life. That includes what I eat and how I take care of my body. So far I've lost 110 lbs. and my overriding goal is to keep it off for good. I'd also like to lose about 40 more.

I'm staring my running program to help me keep off the weight I've lost and to keep me moving toward losing the rest of the weight I need to lose. I'm following the Couch to 5K program from coolrunning.com and I just started my 4th week of the 9-week program.

8. What made you decide to lose weight? I've lost weight on and off through the years, but I am startign to feel the effects of it on my body. When I sleep at night my arms fall asleep which can't be good for my health. I want to be able to fit all the cute clothes I have in my closet! (which will be fitable in about 20-30 pounds)

I was going to kickboxing, yoga, and steps but I had to pause my membership for a few months, so I want to take advantage of the good weather. About 2 years ago I started jogging on the treadmill and I saw a rapid weight loss and I had so much energy. I'd like to get running again because it's an activity I can do anywhere.

8. What made you decide to lose weight? I'm tired of being tired and unable to fit into cute clothes. I also want to be healthy and active well into my 90's and at the rate I'm going that won't happen.

Last spring I decided I wanted to run a 5k. I had never run in my life and was not in good shape. My husband offered to run with me. We started slow...real slow. By October I was able to run for 15 minutes straight without stopping. Then I started having breathing problems. I stopped running. I finally found out what the problem with my breathing was in January. By that time the snow was falling and I didn't start running again. I'm feeling better and ready to start running again.

Hello, New to site, I have started the Couch to 5K program. Trying to run after 20 years.

8. What made you decide to lose weight? I lose the weight before, but gain almost all of it back. I looked good and felt great. So, I want that feeling back again! Plus I loved all the compliments I got from everyone (if this is not motivation, then I don't know what is). I copied this and will add to it. I hit 209 and after being on depression medication relized that I did care. So I want to lose the weight and feel better about myself.

This web site I found has been very inspirational. I wish all A happy healthy journey to there optimal weight!

Hello, my name is Memory, I live in georgia. I am a self employed stay at home mom and student. I have two children, 9 and 3. I have just started a jog.walk program by Mark Fenton. I am on week 4 but I am going to repeat week three. I think if I move to week four will push myself too hard and injur myself. I have never been a runner but I am loving it so far. Hi all. My name is Sue and I am pretty new to running. I've tried on and off to run over the past few years, but it wasn't til this spring that I started taking it more seriously. Currently I run 5 days a week 30min runs. I don't like doing wt training so I don't, why do something I know I won't stick to. Its hard enough to get out for my runs let alone go to the gym(I have a 7month old). So I am here to get motivated and hopefully learn some new tips. I also enjoy biking, which I try to fit in on my "off run" days.

Since losing the first 15 lbs I gained 5 back through a lazy period. My boyfriend recently motivated me to start back up again by running. Bikini motivation may have something to do with it for both him and me.

It's time to stop creating problems and start creating solutions.
