Good Luck on Induction! Sounds like you are getting yourself prepared and that is really important. On Induction, my carvings stopped because of all the fat I could eat. Now when my Hubby munches in bed at night, it doesn't even bother me.

You'll do fine!

Starting induction tomorrow. Been cleaning out the fridge, freezer and pantries this week, preparing for grocery shopping tomorrow, too. I was on Atkins a few years back and had quite a bit of success, and then life just fell all to pieces, and so did my diet. I remember the first few days being a bit rough, but hopefully it won't be quite so bad this time! The hardest part for me (I think!) will be keeping 4 kids (including 2 teenage boys) fed and happy and not being tempted by anything that they're eating.

Welcome Monet! I have just completed week 1 of Induction - lost 3 pounds so far. But I am a very slow loser. I am committed to this as a lifestyle. I have issues with blood sugar, so it is very necessary for me to eat this way.

I got through some headaches during week 1, but now I am fine. I have to force myself to eat now, which is very unusual. Dr. Westman (author of the New Atkins book) says it is natural not to be hungry because it is the fat that satisfies. You can catch him lecturing on Youtube -

Just type in Dr. Westman Atkins in the search area.

Glad to have you here!

Hi!
This is brand new to me.
I applied for an Atkins House Party, was denied lol but received a Jump Start Kit..just a few coupons and an overview of the program.
It makes sense to me as I know I stay full longer with protein. And I know that once I eat something white...I go on a BINGE :O
I will miss my brown rice and greek yogurt though :/
I'm excited to be here and learn all I can and hopefully lose some of this belly

No time like NOW.
Good for you...do you have a plan for the HOLIDAYS?
I have been working on our menu (olives, salamis & cheese with drinks; cream of celery soup, roasted brussels sprouts, spinach casserole w/gruyere, prime rib; and pumpkin flan and cheesecake with a nut crust for dessert) and on collecting recipes for things
to bring along when visiting friends, sigh, so I manage to avoid all that
SUGAR and STARCH.
Good luck!

I have not seen net carb count on the food tracker. Is there a special food tracker for low carb dieting? I have been just counting the carbs on the induction stage, trying to stay at 20.

Volek & Finney wrote "The New Atkins for a New You" which is readily available, if you are still looking. Gary Taubes' "Why We Get Fat" (simply No Sugar, No Starch guidelines) is a good read.
I am in extended Induction, where I expect to stay nearly forever because I am extremely carb (or insulin) resistant and gain weight as soon as I increase my net carbs above 25g/day.
But I have discovered that following a modified Induction/ketogenic food plan seems to be helping...High Fat (70-80%) Moderate Protein (20-25%) and Low Carb at 20-25g (5%) insofar
as I seem to be burning fat (ketone reading mod/dark purple) and the weight is finally starting to come off (10 lbs) while I am consistently satisfied and eating a lot less (unintentionally).
Much success!
M'Sanct

I just started the Induction 1st Phase of the Atkins Diet November 26th and so far have lost 8 lbs. I did go over 20 grams of Carbs a couple of times so I decided to stay on the 1st phase 1 more week. I was hoping to loose 10- 20 pounds before the Holiday's. Is that unrealistic?

HI Betsy,
I had some of the Atkins books a long time ago but none are in the house. I read a book "Low Carb Revoluntion" that turned me back onto eating low carb. I will look into the 12 wk challenge book.

I see you are in NC, I am too. I'm near Charlotte.

Planning on starting induction tomorrow. Been doing lots of reading and research. I"m not entirely new to the low carb thing since I had gestational diabetes during my most recent pregnancy, and I had to watch my carb intake. I was really pleased with how well it kept my weight down, and my numbers were always great. This is definitely more stringent than that, but I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready for this.

Goal #1- 10 Pounds- Met 8/20/12
Goal #2- 20 Pounds-
Goal #3- 30 Pounds-
Goal #4- 50 Pounds-
Goal #5- 60 Pounds-
Goal #6- 70 Pounds-
Goal #7- Goal Weight- 160

I am new to atkins and looking forward to a new change in my eating habits and losing this unwanted and unflattering weight. I don't like breakfast and I decided to buy the atkins shakes and bars so I can try to do this right. Day 1 and I pray to God I can stick to this.

I'm eating lots of salads, with various veggies added, along with coconut milk, avocados and homemade dressing made with olive or sesame oil for fat. For protein, I'm using tofu, walnuts, sunflower seeds and soymilks and nutmilks. I'm feeling good and not having cravings very much.

I'm about a week into induction (vegan style) and doing really well. I'm firmly in ketosis and have dropped a couple of pounds. I'm not especially hungry (unless I don't eat when I should), and I'm not having cravings.

I know it's a week later, but I am starting induction tomorrow. Did you start already? I'm looking at menus and I'm going to plan out my carbs for the whole week so I don't have to think about that part. My husband is doing it with me. We have been semi-lowcarb for a month or so and clean eating before that so it isn't a huge jump for us. I haven't been losing consistently because I haven't been sticking with the program consistently either. I have 25-30 more pounds to lose after already losing 35. I can see the finish line now and I want to get there!

Hi JD
The first time I went jogging I could only 'shuffle'. I went by my watch for 30 seconds and walked for 2 min. I was so proud of myself when I got to where I was 'shuffling' the whole way :) I am stll very slow but do actually 'jog' now!

My favourit exercise though is weight lifting, a small intense workout goes a LONG way to make me feel healthy and strong.

I am leaving on a trip soon, gone for a few weeks :)

Hi JD, you need to build endurance is all. Wow you sound like you are doing great. My eating could be better this week. I had some fruit. Your idea about keeping track is a good one. Sometimes it is difficult to put everything in the computer but at least if it's written down you are accounting for it.

Melinda, that's great that you and your son would run a 5k together. Neither one of my children are interested in running. I started running when I was in 5th grade. Different interests.

Did my 6 miles yesterday. The day was gorgeous for January, 43 degrees and full sunshine!
Got all my Christmas decorations inside and outside put away.

Have a great day!

I use to say I 'shuffle' but now I actually 'jog', I'm impressed that you are entering a half marathon, maybe I'll sign up for my 5K. I want to run one with my son.

I realise that if I want to be less then my 143 lbs then I need to get serious.

Good for you sticking to your committment! I don't like running this time of the year beacuse of the ice. This weekend is a bit warmer than earlier in the week so I will have a relatively warmer long run today. I have to get serious about my traing for the half I am running in March. I have a bit more work to do to be where I need to be for the race.

Have a great day!

After promising I did go lift weights, I lost my running partner for a while, and the path has been icy in the mornings, so it's been a while since jogging ... And I actually miss it :) My husband might make a runner out of me yet :)

Melinda, I decided I had to change my name because of the year being included. I didin't meet my goal so I came up with my new name lol.

Tracking is not my strength-I find that I lose as long as I am eating what I should whether I track or not. I did eat some fruit so my induction could be better, I am down a bit though.

Today I didn't get to the Y before work. I was at work till 7:30 last eve and was exhausted. I can still go after work. I have been sticking with exercise except for the week during a few days before Christmas which is good for me.

Happy Friday!

I love the name change, its like you became 'thenewAmy' :)

I am back to NOT counting again. It's just not one of my strengths. But I am eating all induction food, and stating to lose again. I need to start working out again, I skipped all last week. I promise you and myself to do it today.

Starting my day with going to the Y. My goal today is to run 4 miles this am. Eating is on plan. Tracking is not so great, something to work on.

Have a great day.

It is some sort of magnet isn't it. I started back today. I do have a short-term goal for the end of the month and that is to be at 148 again. That was my lowest weight in a long time. Not too many pounds away but..

I have not read Taubes' why we get fat, I do have Good caloriies, Bad calories, it is taking me a whille to get through it. It's a bit dry in places. I certainly believe it is worth reading. I plan on doing some reading this afternoon as I am off from work. I have no agenda, no cleaning, no more shoppinh, ahhhh just some me time.

Have a great afternoon.
Amy

Happy Monday :)

I am up a few pounds too, (back to 143! It's like a magnet) and more in the mood for induction again, lol, but not discouraged, I KNOW THIS WORKS and I was almost there. My goal is still to bust 140 but no time limit, just keeping with the program.

Reading Gary Taubes "why we get fat" again, on audio really, and its so convincing. I'm not a nurse but did take ALOT of "-ology" classes, and I think I'm going to go get a copy of "good calories bad calories"

I put leftover ham away too, always good for soups. My house is completely purged of tempting food too-now I have no excuses. I do have a problem with cheese though lol.

Betty, I think you could go to Applebee's and find some friendly choices, Olive Garden I would have a hard time making a good choice lol.

What's everyone doing for New Year's Eve? We are going out with friends. I will be having fish. The restaurant we are going to has very user friendly selections.

Happy New Year's everyone.

Lol, Betty, being in the UK I haven't been to any of those restaurants in at least 6 years, my mouth started watering :) go have a lobster with TOO MUCH BUTTER for me :)

I realise that if I take away my almonds I am on induction food only, so, I'm going to stop buying them for a couple weeks. That and too much dairy or sauces are my downfall/temptation.

I've got all the right foods in the house and none of those that I shouldn't have, so.... no excuses for me! Right?? (And gift cards for Applebee's, Olive Garden and Red Lobster)... What's a girl to do??

ya, I did some cooking and put ham and chicken in baggies (along with the turkey and gooose) popped them in the freezer, it feels so good. Somehow the steak we had at christmas didn't lost very long, lol, oh well.

So true. When you are prepared it's so easy to stay on track. I am grocery shopping tomorrow and can't wait. We are out of a lot.
