I am new to this team and have just been reading about fatigue issues. I've been exercising and eating better, pain is not a major issue right now, but I am struggling with insomnia. The post by MOMSUE1 caught my eye, because It sounds just like me. I wake up every 1-1/2 to two hours, and if it's after 3am, I don't go back to sleep. My rheumatologist recommends two 4mg tablets of Zanaflex at bedtime, but I'm reluctant to take that much. I just had a bad bout of anxiety and sleeplessness when I stopped taking 1mg Xanax at bedtime because I was afraid of being addicted, and I don't want to become dependent on something else. Any thoughts?

I just realized that my introductory post to this team stated about the same thing as my post to this discussion. Forgive my repetitiveness. Between fibro-fog and chemo-crud my mind is all but lost. I sent a posse out to look for it and bring it home but now I've lost the posse. LOL

I'm late getting in on this discussion but I just joined the team and found all your comments informative and encouraging! Thanks so much. I've had FMS for years but last year after a harsh regiment of chemo for ovarian cancer the fibro pain ratcheted up to off the charts. My oncologist said it will probably never decrease in pain now. I also lost much of my hearing and now depend on hearing aids. I'm doing very mild strength, walking and stretching exercises and sometimes feel as though it's making it worse but intend to continue. I'm also going to try to do the salad for lunch every day to get weight off. I take Cymbalta and Tramadol which don't seem to help that much but probably if I stopped them I would find helping some. Linda

It was hard getting up and out the door to work this am. I am feeling very tired. I did it and now I feel much better! Had 42 houses to inspect today so I am very proud of myself for getting them all done.

Yeah! I am up out of bed and getting ready for water aerobics! Good for me! It hasn't been easy for awhile. Fatigue and body pain have made things difficult, but I won't give up! Chris emoticon

Instead of a Neti pot, I use a kit with a small syringe type bottle for the salt water. Right now I am also taking Zyrtec daily and a "mucus" pill having a decongestant in it. I used to take the 12 hour one with no decongestant. The doctor said right now I need the decongestant, too. He said right now lots of people are having allergy problems so I need the Zyrtec for awhile.

I am happy to say after doing about 4 things daily for my sinuses, that has cleared up and my energy is up. emoticon

It has made a big difference in energy. Before I was not having major sinus symptoms, but it was totally zapping my energy and I was sleeping the day away.

Now I have "just" normal FM fatigue.

i am new to this team, but not to sparkpeople. Fatigue is my middle name! I hate it. the end of summer brought me sinus problems, which spark friends helped me pinpoint. I was just complaining of sleeping my life away. Someone caught on that I also complained about dripping in the back of my throat. Since treating the sinus problem I have much less fatigue! Who knew!

Most meds put me to sleep so can't use Cymbalta and some blood pressure meds. I hope to get off some weight so I can stop the BP meds, but wt. loss is so very slow!

I a, 64 and still teaching full time and the sole caregiver of my husband -stroke 5 years ago. I can't survive with out paying for help and I am going broke fast.

The fatigue can be debilitating at times. For awhile I couldnt stay awake I would fall asleep in mid-sentence and I couldnt stay awake to drive, I had to give up driving for awhile. It was horrible. If I did anything my body would shut down and I would sleep for like 3-4 hrs in the afternoon and still be tired, sleep at night and wake up tired. but it has gotten alot better since I have lost weight and exercising

It is really difficult to get use to having Fibro. It makes it even harder when you don't have support. A lot of people think that Fibro isn't real. There are doctor who still don't think it's a real illness. You will have all the support you need here. We all know what your going through.

I have very much enjoyed reading all the posts on here. I was doing well with SP a few months ago then kinda gave up. I was just diagnosed with Fibro at the end of october and am still learning everything. I am a stay at home mom and have 3 kids ages 3,5, and 7 so my husband still wants me to take care of everything. I just don't think he gets it yet, or if he ever will, that is why I am looking to anyone on the internet for some kind of support. The fatigue is the biggest problem I have, but I also suffer from headaches/migraines and the pain from that is almost unbearable on a daily basis. I look forward to getting to know all of you and I hope everyone feels better emoticon

fatigue is a big letter but as long you rest during the day and take your nap or just lying on bed for 20 min. that will do it let the dirty kitchen the room messy just think on yourself rest and rest will be the time that you will have the energy to do some house work

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia this spring and I'm still trying to find out what my body limits are. It's so are to get things right. I don't want to be to easy on my body, but I don't want to end up in such extreme pain the next day that I can't move at all. It's so frustration.

That's a great idea about the toss salad. I'm going to have to try that. I use to eat salads all the time and I was in better health when I did. That is something that I have to bring back into my diet. Thanks. emoticon

I have the energy to do more since I began to eat large tossed salads with anything and everything I can think of to tossed in, the added vitamins and nutrients seems to helping to fire up my energy. On days when I have omitted the salads the previous day I find myself dragging my butt. I also make sure I get enough sleep, take Tylenol#3, cyclobenzoprine, and seroquel at bedtime, making sure that I leave myself at least 12 hours for sleep and awake feeling alert, if not totally refreshed. You must now make sleep your highest priority and nutrition too. All the rest will come in time, do what you can do, pacing the exercise routines, no going gung-ho when beginning a new regime, and let your body decide when you can or can't do something. Lay the guilt feelings aside when you have to say 'NO' to someone, your health is the most important treasure you have, keep it or you will be useless to others and yourself. Hang in there it may not go away, but you can manage it. I have had fibromyalgia/chronic fatique for over 35 years.

I've ended up having to drop out of college for the time being, because of the pain and tiredness of having fibro. I wish it would go away, but know it won't. I have to relearn how to live my life. I need to find out how much is too much and still lose weight. It's not easy. I have to take one day at a time. I try to avoid taking naps in hopes I get a full nights sleep. It hasn't helped. I end up going from my bed to the couch and from the couch to the bed throughout the night. When I actually get a full nights sleep, I still feel tired the next day.

I have had the diagnosis of fibro since 2006 but Dr is sure I had it for many yrs before the diagnosis. Over the last few yrs the changes to my life have ranged from mild to extreme. I used to sleep all or most of the day, I too took Provigil as well as Nuvigil I prefer the Nuvigil but it is so new the ins. co doesnt like to pay for it. Now I cannot even take a nap in the daytime if I need or want to! a good/bad thing! I was taking the full arsenal of neurontin,anti-depressants, muscle relaxers, NSAIDS,narcotic pain meds. Now I only use pain med for break thru's, every day I take the anti-depressant Welbutrin XL-awesome an life changing for me, an a bonus is it helps with weight loss! an every night I take a muscle relaxer, that is it from the arsenal! I changed alot of habits, learned to pace myself an to say No to people an today I can say I actually feel the best I have felt in a long time-I also in the last 12mo lost 42lbs~ so dont give up it can get better!!! I say a prayer for every single person with fibro every day an look forward to the day when I will no longer have to suffer this medical condition!!! Gentle hugs to all.

I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia this spring, but my doctor didn't want to put me on anything he left that to my psychiatrist. It took me three month to be able to see him. I was put on Cymbaltra. So far it has been helping some with the pain, but not the fatigue. I'm in college and it's makes it difficult to stay alert in classes and concentrate on my assignments. I talked to my teachers about it when I first started my classes. I was doing good up until now. All I want to do all day is sleep, but I force myself to go to my classes and pray I don't fall a sleep in them or in the commons area.

Yes the fatigue comes with the territory!!! My sinus problems seem to worsen the fatigue also. I am a chronic insomniac and that doesn't help either. It helps to pace yourself - much easier said than done. I have to MAKE myself get out of bed in the morning. I have to make myself get dressed and go to work. Where the energy isn't there I rely on determination or as my family says STUBBORNNESS - which I seem to have in spades - LOL I have not heard of provigil but may check it out.

My doc gave me provigil for the fatigue I have from fibro and sleep apnea. the provigil lasts all day and wears of just in time for me to crash nicely at night. when I initially started taking it, it also helped with weight loss~ bonus!
Another thing i have noticed, is when I have sinus problems I am extremely fatigued, even with the provigil. Spring time tends to be the time we set the clocks and the time I have sinus problems.

Can't get thru the day without a nap..if have any form of activity. It's a bummer. Can't get anything done. Hate napping, cuz it ruins my nights. Any ideas...
