We are from our trip now. We had a great time.
Unfortunately someone tried to break in and broke the clips that hold one of the windows shut, they didn't take anything and we managed to secure the window for our drive home-all's well that ends well, as the saying goes.

In England it's at least 25% more than that! (1126.9 a litre is really cheap)

PDQ - I enjoyed reading your summary! It especially was interesting to read gas prices! We are not looking forward to gas costs to travel home but it's part of the lifestyle. We use the app Gas Buddy, We feel like we have a little more control over where we stop and what we pay.

yes, there's lots of "to do" things. larry says he's feeling overwhelmed by it all - i say 'how do you eat an elephant? one bite at a time'. somehow, it gets done :-)

its a beautiful day here, but cool (yes - very spoiled by those warm so. cal. temps)

we did the short drive from mount vernon to burnaby yesterday. we had no wait at the border - we would have if we did not have nexus cards. we are all set up in site 28 and will be here for six weeks - then we start the engine and head east, eventually to newfoundland

Foxxy - we are in portland-fairview today (today's task is to re-stock the pantry). then we'll drive to mount vernon WA tomorrow (sat) and overnight there. we like to overnight there as it makes for an easy crossing of the border sunday morning and set up at our home base (burnaby cariboo rv park).
we stayed in ocean shores once a couple of years ago when we drove the olympic park. we liked long beach - south of ocean shores

PDQ - love hearing about your Pacific NW travels... just a little jealous. We have a lot in WA about a block from the ocean (Ocean Shores, WA) but have yet to get up there with the rig - every time we plan to do it we find we are expecting another grandbaby! Such is life - we'll make one day! How long before you are back at your home base?

Sharon - you should definitely do SoCal - Long Beach and south to San Diego is awesome. There isn't much camping north of Long Beach for rigs until you get to the Ventura County area (where I hold my summer camps each year) - there are some great county parks there - a few on the ocean!

oh for sure check out so. cal. - we really have enjoyed it. we did try AZ last year. we lasted a month. the ocean jet "feels right"

and one month in one place is about our limit. we get itchy feet and are ready to move on. maybe you need to start in mesa, spend some time there. then come over the mountains to so. cal., spend some time there, then back to mesa - best of both worlds :-)

PDQ - I'm so glad your mom was able to join you for a week. An extra person in a MH really changes everything, doesn't it? The only ocean we've experienced was in FL and we didn't care for FL's weather and bugs. We checked out the Gulf Shores but didn't feel there was enough to hold our interest a whole winter. I showed my DH your pictures in your blog and we seriously are thinking we should check out CA. Especially, if your mom enjoyed it after staying in Yuma. We might try it out before or after a stay here. We can stay here as long as we want. This year was too long in one spot (Oct-Apr). I'm not sure we will do that again!

lol …. yes one of our dogs really likes the grass as well. i think it must feel good on their feet - or smells extra good

and yes, this weather is the typical pacific north west spring weather. but all the blossoms are just amazing (kinda forgives the wet)

my mom flew from vancouver to stay with us for a week mid feb. gave her a break from the day-to-day and a break from the weather. the week she visited was the best feb weather we had in san diego. she and my dad use to snow bird to yuma - for years they did this. however, she really enjoyed the ocean and even said during her visit; "I see why you prefer the ocean over the desert". even day we were at the ocean :-)

have a great day Sharon

PDQ - One thing our dog misses here in AZ is grass! She gets so excited when she finds grass again. She does a happy dance and then just rolls in it! I've heard it's pretty drab and rainy but it sounds like all is going well on your trip home. I see your mom joined you midtrip. Did she fly home or is she traveling home with you?

yesterday was an easy drive up the i5 and into portland. we're at the portland-fairview rv park for the next three days. there's no tax in oregon, so off we go to re-stock the stores on board. and yes, we are back to grey skies and wet - but omg it is green and spring sure has sprung here

Sharon: its the end of the season, so we are having to go to a high resort. I'd prefer to go earlier in the season but my DH is a teacher so we are limited as to when we can go (along with our other commitments).
I don't think the campsite will have snow (last year in February we were parked on snow).

Tessa- that's almost funny, that you are looking forward to skiing. Most everyone back home is so ready for the snow to melt and go away for the year! I am looking forward to that as well because I'm ready to head home but won't go back to winter weather. Have a great time skiing!

PDQ - I hear from other members that it was really raining hard in WA. I'm glad you missed it yesterday but I'm afraid you're heading towards it. Travel safe!

We are starting to pack up for our trip. We leave Sunday evening to go to the French alps for a weeks skiing. It doesn't look too cold at the moment, where we are parked it may not go below freezing (last year we got to -10C/14F)
I'm really looking forward to the break plus plenty of exercise and fresh air!

Susy - it is nice to stay with friends nearby but some times it's also nice to just be alone and do what you want without worrying if everyone is happy. Sounds like you have the best of both worlds. I am disappointed you won't be able to join the group in Branson. We had such a fun get together in Custer last year. A lot of the same are coming back although some can't. We also have several new coming. I really enjoy being on this team as all being RVer's, we get to meet so many members face to face.

Oh my! Newfoundland sounds like a terrific trip! Enjoy... (and keep posting about it!)

Sharon, we were parked (in Gulf Shores) right next to some of our long-time friends. And we made friends in the area when we went out to karaoke! (NOTE: My husband is the big karaoke singer!)

But at this moment, it's just me, my better half, and our dog!

We do have friends--as we travel--that we meet up with for a few days and then part.

For instance, some of our friends met us in Livingston last week for three days before they moved on to their next location.

Oh, I forgot to mention that we are attending an RV rally in mid-April in the Hill Country (of Texas). It's the same one we've attended the past several years. We own a Hitchhiker by Nuwa, and it's one of their rallies. It's so nice to meet up with friends old and new!

Regarding the Branson rally in September:
Regretfully, we will have already left the Missouri area and won't be nearby. Rats! Rats! Rats!

We have been here so long, I envy you that are on the road again.

Suzy - did you stay in the state park while in Gulf Shores. You must love the beach and I must admit there is beauty in the water. Do you meet friends there? It seems like I remember you traveling with friends before. Are you still traveling with others?

Pete - you're getting closer and closer to home. Are you getting ready to be back?

Goodness! DH and I spent so much time sitting in one place, once we started traveling again (last week), I forgot about doing updates!

We left Gulf Shores, AL after being there for 4 months. We stopped overnight in Hammond, LA at a Camping World (we spent $800 there... be cautious of their "free" parking!). Next we stopped at the Escapees park in Livingston, TX for five days. Our brand new 6-day old 2014 Ford truck broke down. Of course it was fixed by Ford at Ford's expense under the warranty. But it was still nerve-wracking!

We left Livingston on Thursday and drove here to Edna, TX and are staying at Lake Texana State Park until Monday.

We want to go to the Corpus Christi area next, but don't have reservations anywhere. Is it still spring break? If so, we may be in trouble!!! LOL

vancouver/burnaby weather is like that of seattle & portland - grey and wet.

there will be snow - but it is all up in the moutons. makes it very pretty to look at the mountains - which i am looking at right now. snow capped moutons are BEAUTIFUL

we departed las vegas yesterday and landed in hawthorne. driving all the way to reno was too far, but there was not a lot of places in between. the whiskey flats was the best choice!

omg ... it was 33 degrees this morning. first time to use the furnace in a while. not sure i like these temps. maybe we left so. cal. too early

Foxxy- my husband doesn't have a favorite musher but we used to own a couple Samoyed dogs and a sled. We took all the neighborhood kids for rides. He just would love to see the race. As for me, I was able to slightly see the northern lights while in MI several years ago. I've seen pictures that were so much more beautiful than what I saw which makes me wonder what they would look like in Alaska.

PDQ - we stayed at the Main Street Station RV Park for ten days when we were in Las Vegas. We prefer the Fremont Street area and it's within walking distance. When we were there we tried to walk around all the casinos - IMPOSSIBLE, don't even try! Just have fun and hopefully win a little money!

Sharon - it was an AMAZING trip! One of my dream trips! I have been an avid Iditarod fan almost since it began and my favorite musher has always been Martin Buser. I got to meet him at the musher's banquet (really nice guy) and we went to ceremonial start in downtown Anchorage. We went with a tour group to the restart in Willow. They took us about 5 miles down the trail from the restart area and we were right on the trail giving the mushers high fives as they mushed by! I felt like a little kid on Christmas!
We had given up on seeing the northern lights. We even took a tour up to the Arctic circle hoping to see them and no luck (but traveling the ice road/Dalton Hwy) was pretty darn cool! We had just gotten into bed on our last night when we got a notification that the lights were faintly out....Fortunately we could see them from the balcony of our room! It was a perfect trip! emoticon I'm still grinning!
Does your hubby have a favorite musher?

Foxxy - I agree their isn't much in the Little Rock area. We stayed a week at a RV park in Fort Smith, AR and it wasn't much of a park. A lot of single wide trailers and a small section for RV's. Won't be going back! Your trip to Alaska sounds wonderful. My hubby is very envious of you being able to see the start of the Iditarod Race and I envy you seeing the Northern Lights!

Hello all - just coming back to the team after being MIA for a couple of years!

We are currently in the Little Rock Arkansas area - jumping between a couple of Army Corps of Engineer Parks every couple of weeks. Little Rock is sorely lacking in decent RV parks except for the Army Corp!
This week and next we are at Willow Beach Park with the Arkansas River on one side and a beautiful private lake out the back window of our 5th wheel. A nice quiet, beautiful spot.

We returned last weekend from Alaska (flew - didn't take the rig) where we saw the start of the Iditarod Race and the northern lights - both firsts for us!! We also scouted some areas to take the rig:-)

PDQ - we have been the Golden Shores in Long Beach - love that it is walking distance to downtown! Safe travels north when you leave!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Sharon - absolutely come over and try out so. cal. there is something spectacular about being so close to the ocean. last year, we tried out az, visiting mesa, tucson, and yuma. but we only lasted three weeks. we just missed the ocean too much.
the lower mainland of bc gets little snow at the lower levels / sea level. the mountains get lots of snow. this way it is VERY pretty - snow on the local mountains, but not under foot. the weather is like seattle's or portland's - so lots of rain.
the winter rains will be pretty well over by april 1st and spring will be well under way emoticon

glad you enjoy the blog. i try to keep it simple and pics are always fun

have a great day,
peter

I always enjoy catching up on your blog! Beautiful pictures. You are enjoying a beautiful area of the country. I have never been and yet we are so close in AZ! Perhaps we need to think about going along the coast in CA. Enjoy your last week before you start for home turf. Will you be arriving home to snow and cold? I'm hoping by May the snow and cold will be gone in MI but it may not be as this has been a horrible winter for our family and friends back home!

we departed mission bay rv park yesterday to drive to golden shores rv park in long beach. because the drive was only 100 miles, we made a late start. lots of traffic on the i5.

we'll be here for a week, then begin a slow migration north, arriving in burnaby bc at the end of march. bright & sunny with temp at 80 when we arrived (check the blog for a pic if you like)

hope everyone has a great day,

So, will you spend a day at Sea World? We've stayed in a few of the RV parks where you are so close together. We stayed at one in Branson that we literally could not open our awning or we would hit our neighbor's fifth wheel. And we have a small awning. I would never go back! Enjoy your week as I know you enjoy walking on the beach. I agree the winter is flying by. I'm still glad to be in AZ and not home in MI. Good luck on winter being over in a month! We're hoping our snow is gone by May in MI.

we departed imperial beach early yesterday morning. we had an appointment at 8:00 a.m. in la mesa to get the oil changed. once done, we drove to mission bay rv park (very near sea world). we are here for one week. this park is well reviewed, so we thought we'd check it out. the sites are very close together, with nothing between the rv's. however, the park is location is right on the water and there great walking, running, biking all over this area

how did february fly by so quickly? we will be back in bc in four weeks from today. well at least that means winter is over… or it better be!

PS sounds like a very enjoyable place, especially if you already booked for next year! It's turned much cooler here in Mesa as well. Still warmer than most of the country.

It was touching 80's most days, then our daughter flew in on Thursday from MI (still 80) and it's been in the 60's every day since! We're disappointed but after leaving snow and blizzard conditions, she's happy!

Today we are going to go on a scenic drive through the Superstition Mountains. It's sunny and beautiful.

note to all….
Sharon & i are not bragging if we talk temps/weather :-)

as for retiring…..
i redesigned my department we me no longer having a job. that way, i got to leave one year earlier as part of my severance.
to this day, when i get together with people from work, they remind me that i'm lucky one as i'm gone and they're still there

I know what you mean about reporting temps. It feels like bragging, lol. However, I remind myself we pay big bucks to enjoy this and I'm not sure how many years we'll be able to so I can't help but be thankful I'm not in the frozen Midwest right now.

Our Corporate Office shut down our Accounting office in Grand Rapids, MI and moved it to Chicago to our corporate offices back in 2008. I was devastated as I wasn't ready to quit working. Now I look back and am so pleased with the way it all worked out. We have enjoyed retirement to the fullest and can't imagine having to work again. Now I just work at what I enjoy when I want to.

Sharon - i almost hate to say the temp & weather as i know others and not was fortunate and they are in real winter….

it was 85 when we arrived yesterday at 2:00 p.m. the minute the sun dropped behind the mountain we face, you could feel the temp drop. it was 60 this morning (i thought it would be cooler as we are now in the desert).

as yes, bright blue sunny skies (come on…. this is PS :-)

Sure wish I was back in palm springs. I loved it there when we would visit my BF & his mom. We always flew in though since we are in iowa. Enjoy the weather and say a little prayer that ours gets milder fast. I really miss camping during the winter since I am still working FT. TC

So how long will you stay in PS? It's been warmer than average in Mesa, by about 10 degrees. Our temps are topping out in mid to upper 70's. What's it like in Palm Springs?

I know that feeling! As much as I enjoy traveling, I'm always glad to get at our park where we will put down roots even temporarily. Looking forward to the pics on your blog about this RV park.

It's not hot here in AZ but temps are about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. We are topping out in the mid 70's. So when you say warm, what temps do you have?

One of my favorite memories is when I was 13 I took a trip with my Aunt and Grandma. One of the highlights was staying at a place where we could pick fresh oranges! So sorry some people never get that opportunity. The oranges are oh so good - not like you buy in the store!

We laugh because here in TP, often times we'll come home or wake up to a bag of oranges, lemons or grapefruit on our step. We have lots of friends with trees. We just say the Fruit Fairy has made a visit!

PDQ - continued safe travels. More and more of us are following your trip. I love blogs!

TC - glad you enjoyed the blog. we're full timing, so travel is just part of our living (e.g., rent or mortgage payment is now translated as our rv park site fee). as for the dogs; the black dog is zoey and the white dog os lucy
live is very good (love full timing in the motorhome and love retirement +++)
