Ok, I know I will offend some but I will say it anyway, I am sure she knows the many reasons she shouldn't eat eggs, the one that concerns me the most is all the crap feed to the chickens which ends up in the egg. I would say don't give up eggs entirely. Rather search out a farmer who sells organic free range eggs and ask he if you can vist the farm and see his chickens and then ask question about the way they are cared for. I he won't let you visit or is evasive in answers don't deal with him. Its up to you what you do

Meanwhile, we are WAY off topic. Today I bought Bob's egg replacer. It'll help in baking, when I need the binding of an egg, but it won't help our first poster when eating as egg as an egg.

i guess I'm just obsessing with the cute thing because I've heard hypocrisy in friend's voices when they swear they could never eat bunnies, but wolf back pounds of squid. The human imagination lead to a startling assortment of bewildering invention, but it also blankets culpability, leading us to feel bad about eating cute food and feeling pretty good about eating ugly food. Imagination keeps us from eating puppies and kittens. At least that's good I guess.
A dichotomy I find hard to reconcile.

Hi FRAGILEWRITER welcome to the team good advice however for some the cuteness and cruely towards those cute animals is the motivation some people need, different people are motivated differently

I have to agree with Mike. We do not need as much protein as 'they' say.

And, i don't mean to sound harsh but, an animal being cute, or their dreadful living conditions shouldn't enter into your decision to not eat meat, eggs, milk,...
If we can Imagine them as cute, or Imagine them as suffering, then we can Imagine them away and go back to eating meat. An intellectual leap must be made, and a personal policy of consumption formed, regardless of what we Imagine. What is your personal policy as a thinking adult with choice? This may help (or maybe I should just shut up)

If your worried about not getting protein don't you get plenty of protein in fruits, veggies, grains, beans, nuts, seeds, ect

If you like eggs I have heard people making "egg" recipes with tofu

I use flaxseed meal and water to replace egg in a cookie recipe I make (recipe is on my blog)

Hi first of all welcome to the team, second you don't need as much protein as the experts would have you believe. The USDA figures come from the meat and dairy industry, they have inflated the needs so they can sell more meat, dairy eggs and fish. Also if you follow a diet very high in greens vegiies and fruit with nuts seeds and berries and grains if you like but it isn't needed. you will have plenty of protein and your diet will be very nutrient dense. Don't trust the numbers sparks shows because they are based on the standard American diet not a healthy vegetarian one. You might also want to read the China STUDY by T. Collin Campbell MD. Eat To Live or Eat for Health by Joel Fuhrman MD. If you want good eggs look for a small farmer that has just a few chickens and hand raises them and ask if you can visit and see how they are raised if they say yes go and ask you question. Then you can request unfertilized eggs. good luck I hope I was of some help Mike

Ok, so I consider myself a strict vegetarian but I am not vegan. Even so, I try to reduce the amount of animal products like cows milk by drinking flaxmilk instead, and rarely use things like cheese--its not healthy, anyway.
I think my one weakness in the past has been eggs. I use egg whites to get my protein in and fill up for very few calories.
Yesterday, though, I watched this horrific documentary on egg "farms" where thousands of cute little chickens were kept in cages so tiny they couldn't even move and all the eggs were collected without the slightest appreciation or dignity.
I've steered clear of free-range chicken eggs because someone once told me that some of those eggs are fertilized, and I couldn't bear the thought of eating something that would have grown into a cute little chick, if given the right circumstances.
So now I'm just really torn and confused. I really don't know what to do. Eggs are a HUGE part of my diet but I don't think I can eat them anymore from companies that torture their birds that way, and if free-range chickens really do produce fertilized eggs that could turn into chicks, instead of just producing the chickens' equivalent of a menstrual period, I can't eat those either.

I'm really upset.

Could someone please help me out here?
