Ok, so I consider myself a strict vegetarian but I am not vegan. Even so, I try to reduce the amount of animal products like cows milk by drinking flaxmilk instead, and rarely use things like cheese--its not healthy, anyway.
I think my one weakness in the past has been eggs. I use egg whites to get my protein in and fill up for very few calories.
Yesterday, though, I watched this horrific documentary on egg "farms" where thousands of cute little chickens were kept in cages so tiny they couldn't even move and all the eggs were collected without the slightest appreciation or dignity.
I've steered clear of free-range chicken eggs because someone once told me that some of those eggs are fertilized, and I couldn't bear the thought of eating something that would have grown into a cute little chick, if given the right circumstances.
So now I'm just really torn and confused. I really don't know what to do. Eggs are a HUGE part of my diet but I don't think I can eat them anymore from companies that torture their birds that way, and if free-range chickens really do produce fertilized eggs that could turn into chicks, instead of just producing the chickens' equivalent of a menstrual period, I can't eat those either.
I'm really upset.
Could someone please help me out here?
