I actually had been doing yoga regularly for well over 5 years--until about 5 weeks ago; now I do yoga from time to time, and I do a live pilates mat class once every few days.

And, I will be in a live yoga class again for the first time in a year and a half. A much milder, more forgiving style. The teacher comes very highly recommended--by me. Because I had her for pilates.

The last yoga teacher I ever had whose pilates class gave me an indication of how they'd teach yoga (mild, of course) was about 5 years ago. Would I steer me wrong?!?

As for GENKI's post, in home self-practice, I'd lost my bearings and fell hard on my left lower leg out of crow [with a loud !thud!] several weeks ago ... getting so many episodes all dizzy and disoriented like that in yoga .. my balance has started really to go .. but my problem is general metabolic breakdown, now ...

Incidentally,FYI, I used to lead this team, and changed its name from Twisted Guru Yoga and Wellness to Twisted Guru Yoga and Pilates.

Pilates in the house!!!!!!

I am turning inactive to active. Yesterday I did 15 minutes of the WII yoga series. Couldn't do all the poses, but tried what I could. Sun salutation, and warrior were featured predominately. Looking forward to the new yoga class at gym.

I restarted this thread as a place where we can jot down what, how and why for our yoga journeys

i got a new book: "yoga anatomy" by leslie kaminoff; it is awesome!!! there's a breakdown of a big bunch of ...common (for lack of a better word coming to mind right now)... postures, which lists the level, joint actions, muscles worked, breathing, and more on each pose. also, there are chapters on basic understanding of the kinetics and the breathing. the book lists contraindications where applicable. all in all, it seems to be a great read for the nagging thought of "am i doing this correctly?!"

That sounds like such a cool practice K4OR1!! It totally is all about opening yourself up to yourself - well said.

I know in yoga, especially with ashtanga, the practice is so regimented in how it is suppose to be done, but yoga is all about you and what defines a practice is YOU.

I think today for my practice on the mat I am not going to follow the primary series, but do the poses that my body craves.

Thanks for the inspiration!!

You are what you want to be

thanks, andrea ^^

yesterday, i incorporated some sparky core strength exercises into my sun salutation...and i was inspired to put other moves/poses in as well. a part of my mind wondered if it was ok to embellish a thing that's been set for so long; on the other hand, i relished in the creativity that my practise has apparently ignited within me.
i think that perhaps this is a facet of what the practise is all about--opening yourself up to yourself.
gooday ^^

did sun salutation for the first time in a long time today. went through it a few times, cause i lost track of what leg i was putting forward (heh...that's me for ya). anyway--noticed i could go deeper in the latter rounds; so i was impressed.
i am happy wee ^^

i used to just sort of flop my hip girdle over with my leg doing "downward facing scorpion" ...i'm beginning to see that i gotta arch my back and flex my glutes and hams of the raised leg to get the proper stretch.
--it's so fabulous how yoga is a massage; what with the pumping of muscles, the circulation, the getting those toxins out, and all...hehee ^^

what was challenging in your practise today?
did you improve on any poses?
did you introduce yourself to any new poses or styles of yoga?

et cetera et cetera et cetera
