I wish I could send you a large hoop – I have to buy ten meters of tube to make one hoop so I have a lot laying around waiting to be "hooped"...

I don´t have a husband or boyfriend, most people I tell seems to think it is rather weird for an older woman to do this but as I am a little crazy they sort of accept it. And most women starts to talk about if the were or were not able to hoop as kids. It is amazingly many that never succeeded as kids!

I do ten minutes – it is three sngs... and then I try to hoop in commercials on teve - that is between four-seven minutes each time.

my boyfriend didn't seem to care one way or another, but he did look surprised when I could actually do it after a week :) His son really likes my hoops. Can't hoop a bit, but he likes to make them come back to him. So I need to hide the good ones because it's tearing up the tape on my new hoop. He can play with the Walmart hoop that I can't keep up for anything.

my boyfriend doubted that i could be as good as people we see at music festivals because i am pretty uncoordinated! i was a closet hooper for a long time, never letting anyone see me. then he realized he was missing me dancing around in minimal clothing, and now he is much more supportive! i am sure your husband will feel the same way when he sees how much you like it! good luck! and be patient!!

My husband does line dancing with me three times a week and loves it. He is the only guy in two of the classes, but the third class is taught by a man and has three men in it. He is considering doing Zumba Gold with me next. I tease him and tell him if he is ever a widower, these dance classes will be the place to meet women! :-)

PS Consider line dancing if you have never really liked to exercise...it is great fun, easy to learn, and the music is peppy. It's the first time I have really enjoyed exercising. In my area the senior centers all offer it (and anyone is welcome, not just seniors).

I will be sure to let my husband know that there are men doing this too. Maybe he'll join me. I couldn't get him to do Zumba with me - and I understand, in our area it's all women.

lol - I think I have the opposite issue. My wife thought I was nuts, but actually warmed up to it after mutual friends thought it was cool. She's now interested in hooping but apprehensive... I think it is a great family activity!

Yes, 100 twirls go so fast that I fear it is not much exercise. I need to increase the time, for sure. Maybe clock the time, instead of count twirls. Am also afraid to do too much too soon. I must say, there is always time to do 100 twirls, so maybe it will add up....

My husband is hooping, too...although it is not easy for him....but, he is keen to try anything that will increase fitness. I doubt I will be doing any fancy hoop routines myself. So far, am just trying to do 100 or 200 twirls three or 4 times times a day. Cannot imagine hooping for an hour, or even a half hour!

I think he might get a kick out of it also. I thought his response was so funny to me and I can sure understand why. I would have probably done the same if someone I knew who was 55 years old was going to suddenly start hula hooping. Really? Hooping?

Although we all know... now... that hooping is NOT just for kids anymore.

He really wasn't being mean about it, just questioning. Especially since money is really tight right now.

I was showing him my Zumba moves and gyrations and got the same response. But he encourages me to do whatever it will take for my health.

I of course am seeing beyond the reality of no hoop yet and not even sure I can do it. Shellie has so inspired me that I really want to do it and spread the hoop love to others.

Maybe a local Hula Hoopers All Stars in our town... parades... applause... tiaras... ok I digress.

Mine hated it in the beginning. Said it was a fad. I'd never learn, etc. He never shows interest in even watching me hoop. He's chilled since then but HATES hooping festies. He wanted me to lose the hoop camp contest. So yep. Hooping is not super positive in my house. :( I just wish he'd be like not look bored when I talk about hooping because newsflash, all I want to talk about is hooping.

Hubs might be surprised and get a kick out of you hooping, once he sees it. You never know. Mine does.

Oh that's so sad. I hope your friend doesn't have one of those silly accuhoops. :(

Have you shown him any videos? Maybe Philo's Gotta Hoop video?

Or maybe big girls can hoop?

So I tell my husband about my sweeping desire to hula hoop or as I refer to it as I want to "hoop it up".

He says, well I bet the grandkids have one you could use.

No, no I explain. The experts at the Hula Hoop All-Stars have shown me the light... and are showing me the way.

Husband: How much will it cost?

Me: Hardly anything... I can make my own. The experts at HHAS have provided links to YouTube and there are even Hoop groups.

Husband: silence... but from the look he gives, I know he is thinking, "Seriously????"

Husband: well can you try the kids' to see if you'll like it?

Me: Well actually no. HHAS says my failure to hoop in the past is because of size... hoop size (I quickly add so he doesn't think it is just MY size).

Luckily a woman from work has one. She told me she even won a hula hoop contest when she was younger and still had a waist. I told her a waist doesn't matter, that this will help her get one back (right?). But she isn't buying it. She is however, going to let me use hers or at least check it out to see if it would work for me.

So that's what I will do for now.
