I don't want to get too far off topic, since this is a Body Beast topic in a Beachbody forum, so I'll just say if I had it to do over again I'd still buy the Spark but it wasn't enough motivation for me to start walking a lot more. Your mileage may vary...literally. It only measures steps and minutes, and then the SparkPeople website converts those to calories the same way it does for exercises you manually type in to their fitness tracker--it is not a heart rate monitor.

emoticon Does it measure heart rate, too, or just steps? I have a HRM (Polar) that I wear for heart rate and calorie burn. And I used to wear a fitbit until it broke in half. I probably won't replace the fitbit. It was fun for a while, but it didn't really do what I was ultimately looking for. But then again, neither really give any credit for strength training because strength doesn't require steps and it also doesn't get the HR up enough to make the HRM useful.

You mean the Spark Activity Tracker? I like it. I've never owned a tracker before so I can't compare it to others. I'm not really a big walker and by no means a runner, but I did find that when I started wearing it, it motivated me to take a few extra steps each day, like parking at the back of parking lots instead of the front, and walking to people's offices at work instead of calling them or emailing them.

Greginprogress, do you like the activity tracker? Is it good at both cardio (heart rate/calorie burn) and step counting, or what?

I saw your blog about P90X3 and it sounds like a great program. I'm definitely interested in seeing what your overall impression of it is as you go along.

I'm doing Turbo Jam and really liking it. I've done some P90X in the past but have never made it past halfway through the program.

I finished body beast on 12/29 and overall am happy with my results. I gained about 9 lbs but it was all muscle, but I didn't lose enough fat to get the muscle definition I wanted. I think that is because the Beast phase was during the holidays, so I didn't stick to the nutrition plan. I did make some nice strength gains, though, and I like the program so much I took over as leader of the Body Beast team on SP.

One surprise was that even though there aren't a lot of pull ups in Body Beast, I find that the number of unassisted pull ups I can do improved better than the results I got with P90X.

I'm doing P90X3 right now, but I definitely plan to do some more Body Beast in the future.

Hi Laurie,

I wasn't taking the new supplements, just the usual Beachbody results and recovery drink and some whey protein, but last week I bought the Super Suma supplement which is like an herbal capsule and not one of the nutrient supplements. I've also tweeked the recommended macro nutrient ratios, so rather than doing to recommended 50% carbs, 25% fat and 25% protein, I'm doing 30% carbs, 40% fat, and 30% protein.

I've not actually finished the program yet--I have two weeks left in the second phase (the Bulk phase). My results so far are that I've gained about six pounds but my body fat percent has remained the same. With P90X and Insanity, all of my measurements went down, but with Body Beast so far my arms got a little bigger, my waist stayed the same and my legs (which store the most fat) have gotten a little smaller. When I finish the 3rd phase I expect everything to get smaller but that my arm muscles might be a little bigger than I started, and I'm guessing I'm going to end up 3 to 5 lbs heavier than I started but with all of that gain being lean mass, not fat.

This is my second attempt at Body Beast--the first time I started gaining weight I freaked out and stopped, but then I did some more research and found out electronic scales are actually very inaccurate when it comes to measuring body fat percentage, so I bought some calipers, and according to those my fat hasn't increased. Also, my pants fit the same.

Good to hear that you're liking it. Are you doing all of the supps, too? I've heard a LOT of people really freaking out during the bulking stage that they were putting on weight and afraid it wouldn't come back off again. Did you bulk a lot and then were able to lose it, or not really bulk at all in the first place?

I'm on my seventh week of Body Beast and am pretty happy with my results. Originally I afraid of gaining weight while doing it, but although the scale has gone up a few pounds my body fat has stayed the same and my waist measurement has stayed the same.

I'm not exactly blowing up like a muscle balloon (after 30 days the difference was not enough to show up in pictures but I could see more muscle definition in my mirror). But I think it's reasonable to predict I will have gained 5 to 10 lbs of lean body weight by the time I'm done. I'm shocked at how stable my body fat is with the huge amount of calories I'm eating (a few hundred calories above my maintenance range) and the small amount of cardio I'm doing (not even sure I can call it cardio--I'm just walking occasionally). It answered my doubts of whether I could stay lean while doing this program with a resounding "yes."

So I've noticed Body Beast doesn't get much love on SparkPeople. Hardly anyone posts anything about it and the Body Beast team leader didn't have time to get the team up and running so he's letting me take over. If you're doing Body Beast or are just curious about it, stop on by for a chat.

Started Beast today! Only one workout into it, but I like it. I've just been holding off starting it figuring it's probably just like any other weight lifting program. But it's different than P90X, CE, and Pump, so, I'm liking it. I like variety.

Well, I still haven't started Body Beast as planned do to my illness, and a serious medical issue that almost cost my daughter her life. I feel both physically and emotionally drained. I have to say that I think this has been the worst month of my entire life. With that being said getting back to healthy is the best thing I can do for myself and my family.

The worst of things are over and it's time to leave the past behind and look forward to the future. This includes getting my butt in gear, getting back to clean eating and working out. On an up note I got two great workout programs for my birthday! One was Body Beast, and the other is TapoutXT! WooHoo!! So excited! Now I'm not sure which one to start with...or both?!? LOL! TapoutXT is mostly cardio (MMA Style) with some strength using bands, and of course Body Beast is pretty much all strength. So I think I'm going to try and start this week with TapoutXT, and then next week do a week of Body Beast and then the following week see if there is anyway I can combine them for both the cardio and strength.

I really need to get my weight and fat down so if I don't feel that they can be combined then I guess I'll do TapoutXT by it's self for a round. It was never my plan to do Body Beast as intended "To Get HUGE and BEASTLY"! LOL! So I planned on continuing to do cardio anyway. I was on the "Body Beast" Facebook page and one guy that is an amateur MMA fighter posted that he has continued his MMA workout routines and is only doing Body Beast 2-3 times a week for the additional strength training. As well, he said his goal was never to get "HUGE". This is where I got the idea of a possible combo workout.

We'll see what I can come up with! I think the hardest thing is going to be just trying to make it through any workout! I haven't really worked out in weeks, and even though I feel mentally ready, I hope I'm physically ready! Anyway, it's time to ROCK this thing! Have a GREAT week everyone!

Summer cold. Yuk! Have you looked into Vitamin D? My husband just recently came down with a virus. Now, this one happened to settle in his brain (like Encephalitis) instead of in the bronchial tubes, but none the less, it was a virus. We went to more of a naturalpath/chiropractor for him and he suggested Vitamin D, C, Sambucol (elderberry extract) and Omega 3s. He said that as soon as their kids start showing signs of a cold, they give vitamin d (which surprised me as we've always heard of vitamin c). Now, you can overdo it on D, so read up on it, but there's a blood test to see what your levels are. The Omega 3s are for inflammation. And we started juicing, whole fruits/veggies, with the pulp still in it. My husband is back to work and feeling great! Anyway, ask your doc about these things if you're still struggling with getting over it.

Hi Laurie!

Well day 1 hasn't happened yet. emoticon Unfortunately I've been sick for about a month now. I've battled a cold, bronchitis...etc...and it seems never ending. I started feeling pretty good last weekend, so I worked out a few days and had a pretty bad relapse. Needless to say it's put me way off track. I'm starting to feel better again but doc says he advises I wait at least another week or so before diving back into strenuous exercise.

I did pick up the SUMA after researching it some more. I read it's great for the immune system, but a few different things I read said it's really good for...BRONCHITIS! So I started it a few days ago to help with that. We'll see!

I hope your first day with the program went well! When I do the program, I'll do similar to you. I just have a hard time intentionally putting that many calories in. I get it that the body builders will want to do that, but not me. And, I liked the sound of Suma, too. Shakeology had it in it until just recently because of the steroid-like symptoms showing up in professional athletes, so they wouldn't drink it. The new versions are free of it. I understand why they took it out, but I still like the sound of it. When I ordered Body Beast, that was the one supplement I thought about ordering, but decided to do it later if I wanted it.

Have fun with it!

I am going to be doing several things different, at least for this round. This program calls for very little cardio and I still have FAT that needs to GO! so I will continue cardio. This may put some limits on muscle growth, but I'm not exactly trying to look like "The Beast". I figure I'm going to have to do a lot of experimentation to find out what's works right for me.

The diet is very high calorie, I may very well need to up my calories because of the extra cardio. I figure I will start with the high end of my current calorie count and see how my body reacts. Again I still have pounds and fat to lose so I feel 2000-2500 calories is just to high for me and I believe that's what I calculated if I do the program as suggested. I also follow a much lower carbohydrate diet, and I'm not budging on that. It's what I do that works for me but most importantly it's what makes me feel good. But, I will definitely listen to my body and make changes as necessary.

As far as supplements I will use my own, I already use a gluten free whey protein product that I enjoy so I'll stick with that, as well as I will continue to use L-Carnitine and Glutimine. They suggest using Creatine, if I was a serious body builder maybe, but I will not use it as this time because it does have the side effect of water retention and it's usually worse in women. They also suggest SUMA, and it says in the book that it has some of the same effects as steroids without the bad side effects. I read up on it more and it does seem pretty safe, it's also known as Brazilian Ginsing, and seems to have quite a few good benefits, like stress reduction, natural pain relief...etc... I want to try it more for the stress reduction, because intense exercise can cause a certain amount of stress to your body, which in turn may increase cortisol and may lead to fat storage. If I do get it I'm going to pick it up from the Vitamin Shoppe, they sell it for a lot cheaper.

So I guess I'll see what happens. I'm still fighting a nasty cold but feel a lot better today so I still plan on starting tomorrow.

Are you planning on following the nutrition plan and take the supplements? It seems to demand a fairly high calorie consumption compared to the other programs. I understand why, I just think it would feel a little strange at this point since I've been used to limiting calories for so long.

I actually just realized on the top menu that it has an option for subtitles. The workouts all look like good solid workouts. I have learned a lot from just reviewing them. I've heard of all the different sets he does, but didn't necessarily know how to execute them, and Sagi's form is so right on. I'm really going to take a lot from this program.

I plan on starting Monday...I hope. Unfortunately I've been sick and right now am not positive I'll be up to it. I will keep updating!

Well, the "BEAST" has arrived at my house! WooHoo! Time to get my BEAST on! I will be checking out the videos and book this week and hope to officially start it on Monday. I watched the Chest & Tris video yesterday and lets just say that Sagi is very easy on the eyes! I can see how some of the stuff he was saying might get annoying after awhile, but I will have no problems looking at him!

Well, mine's in the house, but that's as far as I've gotten, so far. My husband's been ill and we were out of state doctoring all last week when it came in. Next week will hopefully slow up just a tad and I can take a peek at it! Let me know what you think when you get into it!

Definitely let us know how it goes. I'm still in the weight loss mode so I'm still in the lean down phase.

LOL, yes, it's exactly that! Beastly! It's Beachbody's newest program to date. It's advertised as being for those who really want to get BIG (think gym rats!). I'm not sure what the nutrition plan will look like. I know you should take in unbelievable calories if you want to grow big muscle, and most of us are programed to eat LESS calories because we want to lose weight. But, muscle burns fat. So..... This should be interesting! The curious cat in me has decided that I HAVE to try it! LOL

If you have a teambeachbody website, you can look it up there or contact your coach that you're working with about it. If you have neither, I can give you more info on it and I can surely give you (and everyone for that matter) play-by-plays as I get it and test it out. I have a handicapped son at home (cerebral palsy) who is wheel chair bound and as he's getting older and bigger, it's harder to carry and move him around. I've been concentrating for so long on losing weight (which I needed) that I have a tendency to concentrate on cardio and let the strength training go. In order to keep him at home and do a good job of taking care of him, I really need to pump up with some muscle, and I know that it will help me shed fat, too. So.... I've decided I'm ordering it today. :-)

Oh, and one more thing, one thing I think I can tell already that I like, is that it's not "whole body" focused in each workout. It looks like the focus is on one muscle group each day, so you can exhaust one group while letting the other groups rest and then hit them again a different day. I like Les Mills Pump, but you hit just about every muscle group every day and sometimes you just want to do arms, or just do legs, but really give those a GOOD, HARD workout and then let them rest. That's what this looks to be. I'll know more when I get it in, but I'm hopeful about it.

I have no idea what that is but it sounds...well, beastly.

I've been a little on the fence about it myself.
