I love everything about Forensic Psychology, but not many places here in Ohio offer it within my means of being able to go to that school. So I take online out of state.

We are our own worst critics, our biggest enemies. Let's show ourselves that we can do anything, even when we are at our lowest point.

I want to be a researcher in developmental psychology.
I struggled a lot to make a choice :( I am interested in so many parts of psychology (and at my university you can choose so many masters) that I needed almost my whole bachelor time (3 years) to figure out what I wanted the most.

I'm interested in social psychology, specifically diversity. I am hoping to eventually work with policy.

I am getting my Master's in Counseling right now and work part time at at drug alcohol treatment facility. I will get my addictions certification as well as go for my LPC licensure after graduation a year from now. I will probably work in a county agency for a year to get supervision and then go into private practice specializing in depth and addictions and OCD. I have learned many techniques to release childhood truama and subconscious stumbling blocks.

Most of the groups I run now are psychoeducational or counseling groups. The setting I'm in doesn't really lend itself well to group therapy. They're all open groups and you can't screen for members, etc. But I've found I really like group. I thought I would have enjoyed individual sessions better. I like the dynamics and watching the members learn from each other. But, yes, oftentimes I wish I could go a bit deeper.

Very cool! You're right though in that it's really hard to nail yourself to one area. I've read a few of Glasser's books and I did really enjoy them and found they integrated well with my overall orientation.I really enjoy leading group therapy but it can be really challenging. The last groups I worked with had a more psychoeducational focus and less of a pure therapeutic one.

It's hard to pin yourself down to just one specialty isn't it? I am currently studying counseling, so I am planning to become a certified reality therapist when I'm done with my masters. Dr. Glasser's theory really speaks to me. I'm currently interning in a substance abuse facility and I know what I'm learning there is valuable, as addiction is on the rise in our country. I'm actually considering going for the CAP as well. I would also like to get some experience with dual diagnosis clients and specialize in group therapy.

I thought it'd be good to have a thread where we can say what our interest or specialty in psychology is.

I'm more on the clinical developmental end. I'm most interested in attachment theory (moreso peer than parent) and how it affects self-advocacy. I also have interest in eating disorders, anxiety disorders, learning disabilities, and multicultural psychology (with a focus on mental illness and stigma). How about you all?
