After taking charge and looking like a renewed team beating LSU, the Wildcats play Georgia in the semi-finals. The Harrison brothers are clicking at just the right time to have KY. in position to have a SEC Tournament title.
Aaron Harrison broke out of a shooting slump with 22 points and Andrew Harrison set a career high in assists for the second straight game with nine in Kentucky's methodical 70-58 win over Georgia on Saturday to advance to the SEC tournament championship game.

Kentucky will play No. 1 Florida in Sunday's championship game, creating the attractive matchup of the tournament's two top seeds. Florida beat Tennessee 56-49 in Saturday's first semifinal.

Kentucky coach John Calipari said he's not looking forward to a third game against Florida.

Florida's undefeated regular-season run through the conference included a sweep of two games against Kentucky. Florida took an 84-65 home win over the Wildcats on March 8 to close the regular season.

"I've had enough of Florida," Calipari said, adding "it's almost an honor to play a team like that."

The Wildcats improved their record of dominance in SEC semifinals to 38-2.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Kentucky forward Julius Randle was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year by the league's coaches on Tuesday, leading a number of honors for the Wildcats for their play during the 2013-14 season. Randle was tabbed to the All-SEC First Team, while classmate James Young earned second team honors. Both players were also selected to the All-SEC Freshman team. Sophomore Willie Cauley-Stein earned All-SEC Defensive team accolades.

Randle is the fifth consecutive Wildcat to earn SEC Freshman of the Year honors. He joins DeMarcus Cousins, Terrence Jones, Anthony Davis and Nerlens Noel as the other winners. UK's Patrick Patterson was the first Wildcat to win the award in 2008.

The Dallas native finished the regular season leading the squad in points per game (15.4) and rebounds per game (10.5). He's the first player since Davis to finish the season averaging a double-double. No UK player had averaged a double-double since Kenny Walker turned the trick during the 1984-85 season.

Randle posted 324 rebounds on the season, ranks fourth in the freshman record books and 22nd for any player in a single season in school history. Following 31 games, Randle has amassed 19 more boards than Davis, the freshman record holder for rebounds in a season, through the same number of games.

Young collected All-SEC second-team and All-SEC Freshman team honors after logging 23 double-figure scoring efforts on the season. He led the team with seven 20-point scoring efforts during the regular season.
The Rochester Hills, Mich., native knocked down a squad-best 67 3-pointers, the fourth most in program history for a first-year player. He needs just one more long ball to move into second place. He averaged a team-high 33.4 minutes per game against SEC foes and UK outscored its opponents by an average of six points when he was on the floor, which also ranked as a team-high mark.

Cauley-Stein earned All-SEC Defensive team accolades and is the sixth player in the last five seasons to earn the distinction. The 7-foot center accounted for 88 blocks on the season which is the third-most in a single season in UK history. That total also ranks in the top 20 nationally for the year.

The Olathe, Kan., native had perhaps the most stunning defensive performance in Kentucky's win over Georgia. He posted six blocks and six steals in the same contest to become the first player in school history to achieve that feat.

Kentucky returns to action on Friday, in the quarterfinal round of the SEC Tournament in Atlanta. UK will face the winner of the LSU-Alabama game at 7 p.m. ET. The game will air on SEC TV

PMAY0313...Thanks for mentioning the Ky Sports network as didn't know about it and for wishing me well. Much much better!

I miss having a mix of freshman up to Senior players. Now is just not how I know Ky. Basketball to be. I resist change I guess. Like you mentioned, Florida still has a good mix of talent and seniority and is still working or can. Depends on your recruiting. Our baby cats are just not playing as a team yet and may not. Seems some have matured in their playing skills and a few have actually gotten in a slump it seems or just not getting it. Like you said, is just an experiment. I too am a Big Blue fan through and through, up or down. Hope to be able to see the game, if not will be listening in! emoticon

emoticon Sorry you aren't feeling. The last few games have been more than enough to make most hardcore fans ill. Expectations were so high. It really is still just an experiment. It is not going to be the walk in the park that we all hoped for. I am not surprised. It is obviously a real advantage to have a healthy mix of players from all levels, not just uber talented Freshmen. I have thought that for a while but then we won the Championship...so here we are. I hate it for Coach Cal. I saw an interview where he said this is probably going to shorten his coaching years. It is just so intense, and really hard. I am never one to like Florida in any sport but they really are just better than us at this point. I will always be a UK bball fan but I must admit it much more fun when we are kicking ass and taking names. Hope you feel better and we all can enjoy the tournament!

My apologies as I have been ill for several weeks. Our Team has had a rough time as well, loosing 3 out of the four last games of the season, leaving the Wildcats with a 12-9, 2013-2014 record. March 12-16th, The SEC Tournament coming up has KY. a second seed in the tourney playing the winner of the LSU vs. Alabama game on March 14th. at 7:pm E.T. on SEC Tv and ESPN3. My Hubby and I often go the live blog for Ky Sports Network. We both get our iPads and keep up with things that way as well. I get a kick out of some of the comments. Once you start reading it you get to know the main contributers. I just try to stay within my planned calories for the day. Sometimes (if the game sucks) I don't even feel like eating. Depending on the time of the game (we are 3 hours behind Lexington) it is more like breakfast than snack time. The games that start at noon there start at 9am here. The weekday games are on in the afternoon so we dvr them and watch when my hubby gets home. With me I just have to have a plan and I usually do okay. I just wish our "diaper dandies" would do as well!
GO BIG BLUE!!!!!

Today is Game Day! What all do you do to prepare before the game to make sure you stay within your Food and Exercise Goals? Or do you just "wing" it? I search for different ways to change up snacks and drinks into a low cal./sugar version of my favorites looking in the Spark People Recipes has helped me allot. And measure them out before the game. Other times I prepare a meal in advance for halftime, if the game is on during the day or eat the meal before. I'm always really anxious and tend to be unaware I am eating way too much if I don't prepare beforehand. If sitting throughout the game, commercials are for moving about or doing exercise movements in the chair. Ankle and foot rotations to keep circulation going. Many times I get up and cheer/yell the team on. If you use a movement tracker, make sure you have it on during the games as well. You might be surprised how much it tracks while you root for your team! Taking stats on the team is another way to keep mindless eating/drinking at bay. The announcer's these days are talking about who knows what or plugging a product so keeping stats keeps me informed when they don't. Any idea's and tips while watching the games are welcome, let us know what you do.

Game time today is at 4:pm E.T. on ESPN/ESPN2 against the LSU Tigers. Going to be a Cat fight in Rupp Arena! Go WILDCATS!!!!

Whoo Hoo! A big win for the Boys in Blue!

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) -Julius Randle Leads UK with 25 Points, 13 Rebounds in Win at Ole Miss.

Kentucky's Julius Randle started his big night with a few dunks, then made a boatload of free throws and capped it off with a difficult finish in the lane to seal the victory.

The 6-foot-9 freshman is turning into the consistent force the Wildcats hoped he would be. That could make them tough to beat as March approaches.

Randle scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his 14th double-double of the season as No. 18 Kentucky beat Mississippi 84-70 on Tuesday night.

"We know we can do this," Randle said. "We can do this every game. It's about chemistry and having fun out there and today it showed

PMAY0313...LOL, now that is a mixed family, Vol's and Wildcat's mixed in! Gotta love that. Hopefully teaches respect for each other's team. I understand about the Florida thing. Not happy when we lose to them. Was fearful our young Wildcats could not pull a win off from these mature Florida seniors. Leading most of the game but In the end they just couldn't hold on but proud of them as always. Snapped a winning home game streak too.

Ok, guess we lick our wounds from the gator bites and look on to the next game on Tuesday, Feb. 18th. Is on ESPN, 7:pm at Ole Miss. We just played them on the 4th of this month so hopefully they will still have their game on over the Rebels for a road win. Go Cats!!! Wildcat Roar!!!!

I am a nervous wreck. You would think I'm playing! I have a long history with hating Florida. Oddly I am a UT Vol football fan. (I'm from Tenn and my hubby is from KY. My Mom is from TN and my Dad is from KY. My Grandmother is from TN and my Grandfather is from KY. see the pattern? It was worked out before I was born. My Dad had a tryout with Coach Rupp when he was a Senior in High School. He didn't make the team so he joined the air force, went to MTSU on a full scholarship, met my Mom and the rest is history.) Anyway I hate losing to FL more than anything in sports. I won't even go to Florida on vacation. Why would I? Gators and bugs...I hate both! ;-) Go Big Blue!!!!!!!

Cat Scratches: Fair or unfair, Calipari asking Cats to come together vs. Florida

A group of 18- and 19-year-olds, the Kentucky Wildcats are still in their formative years. Most of them still developing physically, trying establish themselves with an eye on their bright futures.

At the same time, they are faced with more immediate priorities. With almost certainly just one year together as presently assembled, the Cats know they have no choice but to come together and come together fast.

There's no overstating the magnitude of that challenge.

"They're trying to grow as an individual player yet come together," John Calipari said. "Think how hard that is. Trying to establish who they are and how they have to play, yet do it for each other. This stuff is impossible."

But at Kentucky, "impossible" is not part of the vocabulary.

"I told them yesterday, 'It's not fair what I'm asking you to do,' " Calipari said. " 'Now do it. Now do it.' It's not fair. You can't ask kids to do what we ask them to do. It's not fair. But, now do it. And they're trying."
Game time is 9:pm aired on ESPN, Feb. 15th

Last game was an ugly one but still have the win. Next game up is away, playing Auburn on Feb.12th, Wed. at 8:pm E.T. Check your TV Guide for listings. Is being aired on the SEC network.
This is one channel I can not get being out of state. May be on PPV. Will definitely listen or check in on the computer to follow their progress if I can't watch them.

Cats win over Mississippi State on Road Game, 69-59.

Frustrated with his talented young team, Kentucky coach John Calipari turned to a couple of rarely used veterans for a lift.

Jon Hood and Jarrod Polson were more than happy to help.

Julius Randle scored 16 points and fellow freshman James Young added 11 as No. 18 Kentucky beat Mississippi State 69-59 on Saturday. But it was Hood and Polson who were on the court when the Wildcats closed the first half on a 19-6 run that proved to be the game's decisive stretch.

Hood made a 3-pointer during the rally - just his second of the season. Polson, a senior, had a couple of steals and rebounds.

But more than that, Calipari said they brought energy to a team that sorely needed it. The veteran coach was both pleased and exasperated he had to go so deep on the bench to find that lift.

"Today, the only time we could play hard was when I put Hood and Jarrod Polson in the game," Calipari said. "I thought Dakari (Johnson) fought, but I thought the rest of us just went through the motions of playing. I just don't get it. But that's what happens when you're a young team

Kentucky (18-5, 8-2 Southeastern Conference) has won three straight overall and seven in a row over Mississippi State. The Wildcats had an uneven game on offense but forced the Bulldogs into just 38.3 percent shooting (18 of 47) from the field.

Calipari used an unorthodox lineup for much of the game because of ineffective play and foul trouble. Polson (30) and Hood (13) both had season highs in minutes played. Andrew Harrison fouled out after just 15 minutes in the game.

From the Cat Scratch file: UK facing first second-time test at Mississippi State

It’s a unique experience in conference play, facing a rematch with a familiar opponent. This weekend, Kentucky will take on that challenge for the first time.

After taking down Mississippi State 85-63 on Jan. 8 -- exactly one month before the second round with the Bulldogs -- the Wildcats have reason to be confident.

“(The coaches) really haven’t told us anything special about it, but since it’s our first time playing a team twice we feel like we should be able to play just like last game because last game we played great,” freshman Dominique Hawkins said.

Hawkins is one of eight scholarship freshmen on the youngest team in the country, a fact that might cause some concern that the No. 18/14 Cats (17-5, 7-2 SEC) could overlook Mississippi State (13-6, 3-6 SEC), a team that has lost four in a row. UK, however, is on guard entering Saturday’s game at 1:30 p.m. ET (SEC TV).

“We definitely don’t want to do that because we know playing in the SEC anything can happen,” Hawkins said

WoW! That is so tragic, PMAY0313. So very sorry about your Dad's accident and death then your Mother-in Law's! My condolences to you. Godspeed!

Happy you get most of the games. Not all do. I moved from Ky. to Pittsburgh, PA. in 2009 and feel lucky to get to see them play as much as I do. Only the ones on the SEC Tv can not view. Sometimes those are on Pay per view but can not afford them.

Know what you mean when you say your loved ones are now "watching the games from the good seats" My parents were both UK Alumni, coming from the Rupp era in late 40's and have long since passed. I feel they are watching in the same section as yours.

The game vs. OLE MISS ended up with a win but watching it in the first half, the team looked undecided. Second half they ended up going strong and playing like a team! Proud of them, Go CAT's!!!

I am watching! Even in So Cal I get all the games between my 2 sports packages on DirecTV. I still have to get caught up on the games I missed while out of sorts because of my Dad's accident and death followed immediately by my Mother-in-law's cerebral aneurysm and removal from life support. Really bad 2.5 weeks. My Dad was a huge UK fan as was my Mother-in-law. I like to think of them at Rupp watching from the good seats. Hopefully the guys can finish this rest of the season STRONG! I'm sure they are cheering for the Big Blue! I certainly will be!

Hard to see a young team play a quality team so early, but it does build character and let them see where they are as a team, for each player. Hurts when we lose early before conference play. Sometimes, like this year, here we are at the start of Feb. basically still in the same shape. Freshman teams don't always evolve and learn to play and this years crop has not come as far as we feel they should. Talent abounds no doubt but leadership on the court and communication on a college level hasn't. Not over yet and in hopes the young Cats will click into gear in February to get us into March Madness! Go Big Blue!!!

I wish we didn't play quality teams the third game of the season! It doesn't really seem fair with all of the freshman we have. I get that it is good in the sense that it really shows them they are "not all that" just yet. Still it is going to be annoying to lose that early every season. U of L didn't look all that good against UNC yesterday but when it comes to UK vs U of L all bets are off!

Well looks like we might have a good season. Our freshmen are going to kick ass and hopefully last season will prove to be a really weird season that we won' have to repeat! Of course I guess I could live with it if we would win it all everyother year. I would love us to be able to repeat a championship year though!

I know! It was awesome. There is still some work to be done but Coach Cal can do it! I miss last year's guys but I think I'm gonna love this new crop too! Go BIG BLUE! Please beat Duke! If I hear another comment about Christian Laettner I will throw up! I am going to have a trashcan at the ready since the announcers will surely mention that moment and his name more than the current Duke players!

I think it will be fine. Coach Cal always finds a way to somehow make it work.

So...are we going to make it 2 in a row this year? It looks like our reload is pretty formidable! I still am having trouble with losing everyone every year. Are you still cheering for everyone in the Pros?
