I can only tell you what I have done and what has worked for me...your mileage may vary.

I get almost no sun normally as I work 8-5 in an office and can only get a bit of sun on the weekends. I suppose if you got a lot of natural sun you wouldn't want to use a tanning booth but for me, I don't think it is too much. Nevertheless I am trying to minimize the amount to only what is needed to remain clear.

My 80 year old father-in-law has had many skin cancers removed and he's never been near a tanning bed, but he did get lots of sun working on the farm growing up. So too much of anything might be bad. I personally think we have gone overboard with the skin cancer scare so that many are vitamin D deficient and don't even know it as I was..

I never moisturize as I hate the feeling of it, so the improvement you see in my pictures is without benefit of any lotions whatsoever.

Jim

I am on 5000 D3 5 xs a week - I was doing 3 xs and just did get to normal range
I also was told by other doctors to take 4,000 fish oil.. I take a lot of other stuff from different docs for different issues..
I went to my dermo today now he says the spread of itchy blotches is eczema - the other places are psoriasis ????? ugh.. he also said to take antihistamines - already been thru that with sinus..... not doing it again - no light - friend says ocean.. since it is getting cold she said try sea salts - but salt is drying and I am to keep it lotioned ????????
I am so tired of trying to stay healthy - too many things to take care of - do not know what to do ...
another friend says no peppermint if you are using homeopathic remedies .. which I do...
AAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWW

also wanted to ask you about the tanning bed.. causing skin cancer- thats what we have been told.......

Pretty much the same. I have been taking 4,000 D3 daily as my Vit D test showed that I was very deficient. I would not recommend that you take over the 2,000 RDA without some reason, and at your own risk. I also take 4x1000 fish oil instead of 2400 because a friend relayed some anecdotal evidence that that would help, but I doubt if 4000 does anything more than 2400. Instead of peppermint candy, I take oil of peppermint before each meal. Other than that it is the same.

I take the Peppermint oil before meals and everything else, except for the ibuprofen, I take right after lunch. Even all of the fish oil. I guess you could spread that out some if it bothers you.

Right before bedtime I take the ibuprofen.

The tanning is at a regular salon. I actually use a stand-up booth by Hex, and it is not a super, just normal. I worked up to 12 minutes every other day and this worked well. I am trying to reduce to every 3 days and my skin just doesn't seem as smooth, but still OK.

Gluten is all that I have cut out. Otherwise I have eaten whatever I wanted.

I have used no prescription medication since starting on Barney's. Before that I really used nothing for a long time, resulting in the "before" picture. A few years ago I used methotrexate and cleared a lot, but not as much as I am now. Then my doctor took me off it until I had a liver biopsy, so I declined to use it again.

I am very pleased with the results and am going to try and maintain this clearing over the winter by doing what I have been doing for the last 7 months.

Best of luck,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Are you taking Barney's formula as is listed by Lotocurls? Also, at what time of day do you take what? As for the tanning bed is this at a tanning salon, is it a regular bed (not a super) and how many minutes per session, as well as, number of days per week?

Is gluten the only thing that you have cut out (or back on)?

In addition are you taking or using anything else that is doctor prescribed?

Your success sounds so exciting!

I am using a commercial tanning booth, the light treatments from a doctor should be even better, I would think.

I have some arthritis, not sure if it is the psoriatic arthritis or regular type, but it seems to get worse when I eat much gluten, and my psoriasis flares at the same time, so I think they are connected.

After 7 months I have cleared probably 95% using Barney's Formula, eating mostly gluten-free, and using a tanning booth.

These before and after pictures will show the improvement!

As I understand it, the ibuprofen is very important to the formula. It may or may not work for you without it. It is not just for pain, but adds to the effectiveness of the D3.

Anyway, if you try the other things for a while with no results, you may want to add the ibuprofen to see if that helps. It is such a small amount after all.

Hi,

Just wondering if the Barney's Formula is still working for you.

I started on it this week after going gluten free 2 weeks ago and seeing some progress with the psoriasis. I am hoping that the vitamins will lead to some clearing as they seem to have done for others.

Thanks for any update and best wishes on the program.

Jim

Hey all!! So excited to post about some progress...

I've really been through the ringer recently having to be on antibiotics to kick some infections. It has wreaked havoc on my p!! Thankfully I had read about some interesting bits about Turmeric being a relatively safe anti-inflamatory and I started on it with my last antibiotic and WOW...great progress!!! I can't wait to see how things are once I am off the antibiotic. So here is my current regimen and it is going extraordinarily well considering my recent circumstances:

1 Women's One-A-Day Vitamin
2 - 1200mg Flax Oil softgels
2 - 1000mg Fish Oil softgels
2 - 2000iu D3 softgels
2 - 500mg Turmeric capsules
1 - 250mcg B12 tablet
1 - 200mg Ibuprofen tablet
1 - 200mcg Selenium tablet
2 - Altoid minis before every meal (3x/day = 6 total)

I quit taking the folic acid because I read up and felt that it wasn't necessary for me based on the dose I get in my vitamin.

I am quite pleased with my results. My face is just soooo much better, I never realized how badly my p negatively affected my comfort in my own skin. I am definitely very reactive to glutens but quite honestly, it is so so very expensive and time consuming to eliminate them from an American diet. I have limited them but it is clear that I am sensitive. Will keep up with updates so as to track continuously my progress and any factors that I discover.

My best to everyone!!!!

Heather

Congratulations! That's wonderful news! Keep updating us. I'm going to go add some cinnamon to, um, everything. (I love cinnamon).

...the rest is still unwritten.

30 Days down. There is no placebo effect going on here. This is the real deal!!!!!

P places broken down:

Ears - p free

Face - I now have what resembles small patches of fine dry flaky skin that are much more pleasant than the old thick crusty plaques. Oddly I have many more small patches than previously when I had large plaques. It is much easier to cope with and seems to be improving by the day.

Scalp - this is the winner of the most improved for sure!!!!! No more itching, period. I colored my hair and had no icky dye stained plaques sitting on my scalp and eventually working out into my beautiful locks in crusty clumps. I now have what appears to be much more like dry scalp. It is still embarrassing but I am more comfortable now than I've been my whole adult life. The itching from p made me SOOOOOO anxious and I fussed with my scalp A LOT!!!!! I used to look like a mad woman always reaching up into my hair line and feeling, rubbing, picking and scratching. I feel so much more normal. I am infinitely more at ease. I think that the itching went straight to my brain and made me nuts.

Tongue - geographic tongue...what? It was the very first thing to clear. No more worrying that people will see my tongue and think I have some kind of creepy disease. I can now stick my tongue out at anyone I please without worrying about being labeled a freak, wait, maybe not, lol.

Fingernails - I would never ever in a million years have guessed that my stubborn cuticles and nails had anything to do with my p...SURPRISE...it did. Ahhhhh...I thought that I was more rough and less feminine than most women because my hands were always kind of "rough" looking despite my having very nicely kept fingernails and beds. My cuticles have always been like taming weeds, I'd do them at night and wake up to a mess in the morning. I would NEVER have made the connection. I have pretty fingers now :)

I feel like I have a new lease on life. Things that made me feel disconnected and odd are no longer. Whew!!! I feel as though I am far from done with progress and will keep this topic updated.

The only changes I have made:
I also eat peppermint candies every single day. They actually calm my belly a great deal as well. I still use jojoba oil on my face, scalp, and hands every single day as previous. I use much much more cinnamon in everything I eat that can use it...even Mexican dishes. I also have been eating a lot of curried foods (tumeric) and may soon add a tumeric supplement to my regimen.

End of Week 1:
Ok...I've contemplated the placebo effect but I'm pretty sure there is actually something physical happening. The itchiness has subsided to about 40% of what it was one week ago. The scaling in my ear is gone...it was VERY mild. The rest is still the same. If anything the flakes are worse on my head than before. The thickness of the scales are exactly the same on my nose, eyebrows, and head. No other changes to report. Taking the pills is already dreadfully monotonous. I am enjoying my first slight reprieve from the itching in 13 years. We shall see.

To be continued...

Hey all!!! Just wanted to leave a mark to let you know that I am beginning Barney's Formula today. I am excited to see if the D3 helps my energy levels too. I will post results.

For anyone unaware:

Barney's Formula is a vitamin supplement regimen that a gentleman in the UK developed to treat his psoriasis. There is extensive information available online and lots of posts on the NPF website message boards.

Barney's Formula official blog:
www.barneysformula.net/

NPF message boards on Barney's:
talkpsoriasis.org/showthread.php?t=22725

Here is what I am taking:
Barneys formula

one small multivitamin

and add to that
1000-1500 iu of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferal ) more in winter less in summer
(1000IU= 25mcg)

200mcg selenium
250 mcg B12.......
400 mcg folic acid

2x 1000 flax seed oil
2 x 1200 fish oil
400mg calcium if you don't eat a lot of dairy cheese etc... (**** I eat lots of dairy so I am not taking this***)
200 mg ibuprofen in the evening with water or fluid

My psoriasis is worsening with every year on my scalp and in the past few years has developed in my eyebrows, on my nose, and in my outer ear. I would love to find a natural treatment plan to help treat some of the issues that flare up my p.

Like I said, I will post on progress.

Here is my today observation...bleh, the selenium I bought begins to dissolve instantly on contact with my tonuge...icky feeling left over but no yucky taste.
