beautiful cool weather..except the shadows of the trees made it hard to see the potholes on the road and I hit a couple. ow. Also, they should make cycling clothes that are white with a fabric pattern of black chains because that's what I keep getting on my clothes. Or, that's what I get for being fashionable and not wearing plain old black. Now I have to get the dish soap and scrub off all the greasy chain marks.

Cooler weather today, humidity gone, so morning ride was a good ride, and just could not resist, had to do my coffee ride again today, getting my coffee at the end of my ride, a really good ride today.

I work at a nearby school and since the start of the school year have been commuting to/from work. Something outstanding about my ride - leaving school on my bike knowing I have the week-end ahead to ride!

I got back inside the house just when a storm hit. I knew it was coming and I went out on the bike anyway, I did have sense enough to go in loops around the neighborhood so I could make a fast break to the house.

HA HA HA! Way to play it safe, ZORBS! I remember a day in the spring when I was riding to work, and some guy passed me. My first reaction was to speed up and try to catch up with him, until I watched him from behind...it appeared he was riding someone else's bicycle, because he was seriously moving his entire body to reach the down stroke in his pedal. I quickly realized that I should be feeling sympathy for the guy, because when he got to where he was going...hopefully, not far...his "top inner thighs" were going to be on fire. It's possible he was heading to his bike shop to be fitted for that bicycle. emoticon

got passed by an old fart on an ancient hybrid, I threw on another gear and was about to pass him when we got caught at a red light. Then he ran the red when there was no traffic but I don't do that sort of thing so the "race" was over before it really got started. :(

I got my first ride in for September today, heavy clouds looking like it could pour down rain anytime, stayed close to home but still got 10 miles in.
Got caught outside yesterday just walking from one building to another, in a heavy rain, bad lightning and heavy winds, was soaked, 1 inch of rain in 20 minute time.

Only 11 miles but rode to our cities food truckfest and then home. Pretty neat - 50 food trucks to choose from. Unfortunately needed to ride a few more miles to burn up that death by chocolate cupcake I had for dessert!

Actually no big changes at all...it's riding fine, hard as it is. I can't tell if it is "molding" itself to me as I've read. I think time will tell. No complaints thus far.

I love to see wildlife when I'm out riding. If I'm not in commute mode, I love to ride on our multi-use river trail. I love to see geese and quail. The trail is mostly in the city, but it's lined by trees, which provide lots of shade. I love the peaceful quiet of the trail. Not really outstanding in the broad sense of the word, but definitely a pleasant break from the hectic pace of life.

Being a fairweather rider, it isn't often I'm caught out in a thunderstorm, but I remember once having to take shelter in someone's old barn while the lightning strikes were all around me...whew! Scary stuff indeed!

I sing on the bike, too. I used to sing while kayaking. I think it's the rhythm that brings out the music.

Downhill skiing, when I'm turning fairly rapidly, gets accompanied by the Barenaked Ladies' "Never Enough." It times the pole-plants perfectly. And I'm usually going fast enough that no one can hear my horrible singing voice. emoticon

No threat of rain today, heavy fog but it was well above me, so I got a very good ride in today. Must have beat the birds out of bed as didn't hear them sing, so I sang for them, good thing I was out on country roads....lol (hmmm maybe I scared the birds away)....:0)

Never apologize for riding in the rain. And never fear it. Here is Velominati's Rule #9 for you viewing pleasure:

Rule #9: If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.

Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards. Those who ride in foul weather – be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot – are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face. This is a rider who loves the work.

You may say I'm a dreamer...but I'm not the only one...

Those itty bitty road bike tires are actually better in the rain than knobby mountain bike tires. They have a continuous grip on the asphalt. So long as you keep your center of gravity lined up and you stay off anything painted on the road surface - that stuff is slippery as snot when wet - you'll be fine.

Of course, if you're running commuter tires on your mountain bike, you've already got the advantage of continuous contact, and my post is meaningless.

Love God. Love your neighbor. Change the world. It really is that simple.

A squirrel ran right in front of me. I'm not sure how I missed it but it scared both me and the squirrel half to death.

Also today was the first time I've ridden my road bike in the rain. That was not the plan but that's what happened. I've ridden the mountain bike in all kinds of conditions but those itty bitty road bike tires and rain have always scared me. It turned out ok though.

OMG OMG OMG - I saw two white-tail deer - a six-point and an eight-point - on my ride into work this morning. This was in town, in a light industrial area next to the river. I'm still stunned and puzzled how they got here. (A few years ago, a moose fell into a large irrigation canal north of town.)

My commute takes me through a couple of local trails along the river and the vistas of waterways either filtered through the trees or sprawling out ahead of the city. So many forms of wildlife including birds, ducks, geese, woodchucks, squirrels and people smiling as they walk or jog along. Is there any better way to start one's day? :-)

Today my 6 a.m. ride was just a great ride, the birds were singing their beautiful songs, the sun was shining, Traffic was not bad, I ride country roads when I can. There was a strong odor evidence of skunks being out in abundance, but grateful I never seen them.
