Oh man ... losing your wallet totally blows. It not really the $$ either ... more the other stuff in there that has to be replaced.

KCNEWF,

Yeah, I get paranoid about that too. So I tend to take just my DL and a $20 bill. The hassle and cost of losing those is bearable.

I learned a hard lesson from deviating from my pre-ride routine. . . .

I neglected the last critical step of zipping my frame bag before I took off on my ride.

Result? Lost wallet somewhere on a 20 mile route.

Hehe ... I can't remember if I got a lot of work done ... but I suspect I had interruptions ... stoopid emails and telephone...but then again, getting interrupted is sort of part of my job.

Ohhh ... I have done a version of what I_Can_Amy and KJEANNE have done ...

I have hauled a big ol U-Lock with me when going to the gym or something ... only to find after getting there that I forgot THE KEY!

I have also packed my gear for work ... only to find I forgot to pack a work shirt...and have had to wear my stinky ride clothes. (Good thing that day I was hiding out in a spare room on my own.)

KJEANNE: been there, done that...have headed out on a ride expecting DW to be home when I get back but OOPS forgetting that she has an errand, coming home to a locked house with no keys. Usually I find something to do around outside to kill time while waiting...lol.

Check of tire pressure, and a quick hand spin of the wheels to check that there is no rubbing and the brakes work.

Levers, repair kit and spare tube live permanently in a carrier under the seat, so I can't forget them. Pump lives on the bike too.

But when it comes to cycle computer, helmet, gloves, water bottle, sunscreen, well, I have normally gone down to the garage without one of them.

I usually lock my door and then realize I forgot my helmet. Just like this.

I ride my bike to work on Friday because I get out of work before it gets too dark. I HAVE to have a checklist before I leave the house becasue I'm afraid of showing up at work without my pants emoticon

I have a short mental checklist before a weekend ride. Water, iphone, road ID, ipod, keys, lock, and a few dollars. I have all my bike tools in my camelback, but again, I don't know how to use them. My mom is close by with an SUV, hence the cell phone.

OH! CHAPSTICK!

I agree with DDORN, I need something to wipe my nose, but mine runs no matter the weather, but I usually use my glove. I know, that's gross, but I wash them, promise.

I must of jinxed myself tonight before my ride!!! I grabbed the key for my lock but did not grab my house key. Boy was I happy to see that our daughter was home - I knew my hubby was out.

I love the cheapness and simplicity of skipping bike shoes...lol!

I'll keep trading off the extra riding power boost just to hold onto that.

Wow ... my checklist is super similar to Don's ... I normally also keep my helmet and bike shoes in my truck as well.

Nothing too complicated: check air, inflate as needed; water bottles; if chilly, a paper towel or tissue for runny eyes/nose; sunglasses w/ mirror; cell phone; Road ID wristband; if darkness is likely, be sure lights are charged; always have one, usually two tubes & tire irons; fruit and/or nuts if riding a distance.

Sometimes, I am so excited to get on my bike, I forget an important piece of equipment. I have two bikes I use so I have to switch equipment between bikes. That's part of the problem. There's nothing worst than grabbing the wrong size inner-tube and having a flat on an bike path, far from home.

So

I put together a check list, wrote it on my portable flip chart and hung it in the garage right above my cycling gear. I'm hoping that will help me slow down and make sure I have all I need for my ride.

Do you have a pre-ride routine you follow?
