Great story! Another fine example of how bikes bring out the "kid" in ourselves! :-)

We picked up his bike yesterday. He was out running so I just had him meet me at the bike shop. I rode my mountain bike over there because I wanted them to adjust my clips. I have those two-way pedals on that bike and my cleats were a bit loose. I should probably know how to adjust it myself but I don't so there's that.

He got there and we hopped on the bikes to head home. Just as we got out the door a neighbor of ours went zooming by on rollerblades. He and the husband went to high school together so when they're together they both turn into 15-year-olds.

meaning that we started chasing him

We rode through the parking lot, across the street, into the neighborhood, and all around the neighborhood racing like idiots the whole time. We got to his house and he flopped on his front lawn and accused US of trying to give him a heart attack.

ha

I'm surprised how fast he could move on those things, he was keeping right up with us.

So it was probably good that my husband's first ride in a long time ended up being a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to the ride this weekend.

Excellent! My husband enjoys cycling, but I don't think he took me seriously when I committed to bicycling EVERY day starting August 1st. Now, he accompanies me most rides. He's the one who has the bikes ready to go as soon as he gets home from work. It's been great "riding through the seasons" together.

I can only imagine the two of us on a tandem. We can't even kayak in a two man kayak without it turning into an open water swim.

Wonderful news to hear from both of you, re: spouses jumping into the mix!

We have many mightily happy couples in our bike club, several of whom have jumped into tandem recumbent riding with each other, one couple even did a cross country tour together.

Crossing my fingers for you! :-)

Woo hoo indeed!

I spent a few years trying to convince the Hubs to get a road bike. (He's been riding a mountain bike for about 15 years.) Then, a few months ago, we were hanging out in my local shop waiting for a repair to be done when he spotted a bike he liked. He test rode it. He asked, "Can we get this now, or do I have to wait until Christmas?" Are you kidding? You want a road bike? We're buying it today!

On the very first ride, he was hooked. He couldn't believe how much less effort it takes to move a road bike as compared to a mountain bike.

Love God. Love your neighbor. Change the world. It really is that simple.

I am sure the BUG will bite him!

All you have to do is LOOK at bikes for that to happen.

Maybe you can find out what model he really likes, and birthday-gift it to him; or Christmas is coming up!

Best of luck in getting an ideal riding partner!

He hasn't ridden it in years so it's just been taking up space in the shed. It's in the shop now getting a tune-up and some other adjustments to get him out and on the trail. He has an ultra marathon coming up so the plan this weekend is to take the bikes up there and ride the route so he can check it out. My not-so secret hope is that he gets a bit of the cycling bug. At the shop yesterday he was eyeing some road bikes and then said "what is wrong with me, I can't even look at this until after the ultra"

The implication being that he is at least pondering it. I may lose my triathlon photographer if he starts riding but I'm ok with that. I'd love to have him riding with me.
