LOL I think I need hobbies that require less 'toys'. But then what fun would that be? At least I'm not into custom cars or anything like that.

There is no end to spending for this hobby. I have been shopping for a new front 20 wheel for my recumbent. The front wheel bears most of my weight and I have already broken several spokes from riding on rough pavement and going over/into potholes. Looks like I HAVE to buy cool slick aero wheels! Darn! More shopping is needed.

Angel--I don't know--I still want to spend money on my hobby, and I am pretty established! There is just always more... Are you telling me there IS an end?!? lol...

So glad everyone is getting their riding in. I can't wait. My boyfriend and I put our bikes in the shop for a tune-up this week and should get them back in time to go riding this weekend! Now I need to watch the weather report in crazy New England.

DRC2205 - Stop giving me more reasons to spend money. LOL It's always this way when you take up a new hobby or activity, right?

I am on the East Coast, too. I thought my Jeep would blow over on my way to work this morning!

Also, When I first bought shoes, I DID NOT buy pedals. I got used to pedalling with the hard sole before I worried about clipping in. Without having a shoe that flexes, you can be a little more effiecient. So I say, if you find a great deal, go for it.

My local REI had some great deals on some closeout cycling shoes and in my size even but I thought it was too early in my 'riding' to justify buying some. I'll have to work myself up into earning such shoes.

Maybe closeouts are a better option. It'll just take more searching perhaps.

DRC2205 - Thanks for the well-wishes on the bike! Now if the weather would just get nice enough for me to actually use it. The wind over here on the East coast is just INSANE right now!

Angel, congrats on the new bike. Many happy miles...
Dave, I agree--there are many things I'd buy used, but not the cycling shorts! Or a helmet. I got my road shoes on a close out sale at a local shop. They were about half price, and I was the first to wear them.

I was actually looking there today! I will definitely buy my cycling shorts new and Performance is having a heck of a sale right now but I am seeing what I can find in a cycling shoe, gently used.

Dymond2k,
Have you ever tried getting your cycling apparel from e-bay? I refuse to pay full price and have gotten lots of bargains. Just a thought. emoticon

I finally got out, too, for the first time this season! I'm so proud of myself. I made it up all the hills (not that this was a very hilly trail) without having to walk them. I did about 8.3 miles for about an hour. I feel good! I've also realized I have to either put some money into my current bike or get a new one.

I haven't been a regular rider in a long time, but am planning to change that this year. I'm in southern WI, where we're in the midst of a very unwelcome cold snap. A few days ago, I got home a little early from work and although it was quite chilly - in the 30's - it was really sunny and I couldn't resist going for a quick ride. I went for almost half an hour and nearly froze my face off, but it sure was fun :)

Good on you!

Must feel good to get out for a ride after a long winter.

Hopefully the weather holds up for you.

We have good weather here and have been able to finally get some good miles in this week. However it is suppose to turn cold again this week. I hoped that spring was here but I think it is just teasing.

Trying to get going again after falling off the weight loss wagon!!

Yep, same thing happened here. Winter is back in town. Everything is sure to be ice slicked by tomorrow morning. So no biking in to work tomorrow. emoticon

Oh well, I just have to be patient.

Sounds like another commuter on the team! I took my bike out for its inaugural ride of the season on Tuesday, and was optimitic about keeping it up. Then we got the snow and ice storm here on Friday. I'm back to letting the roads melt!

Went almost an hour, through the mud and the stubborn remains of the snow. Geez that felt good.

I am going to bike into work tomorrow too. I am really fortunate, there is a brand new asphalt trail (on the old railroad grade) that starts about 6 blocks from my house, and literally goes right through the parking lot at my workplace. I just haven't taken advantage of it yet!

Good times!
