Five of us are doing Greater Allegheny Passage in two weeks but with sag (2 folks are no way would they sleep in a tent). Labor Day week-end one of the other riders and myself will be doing self-contained of the C&O. Pittsburgh - DC with the two rides. Looking forward to this. Been a number of years since I've done a self-contained ride.

How awesome is THAT!? Still haven't managed to pull off a self supported tour, but our local bike club does this now & then. While I never thought I would consider camping out I love the idea of saving money. Our club's president said folks have more than enough equipment to loan some to me to "test the waters" so to speak...so who knows? I may yet give it a whirl! :-)
In the meantime, my plan B is to tour and rely on lodging through the good graces of hosts available here:
We are planning on biking the Pacific Coast and possibly the Southern Tier in the fall. This three-day ride was part a series of shake down rides we are doing to get ready for our ride in the fall. Last month, we did GOBA (Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure) a week long supported ride. Next we will most likely do a one or two week ride.
Other than the heat, which turned out to be quite a problem last week, we had a wonderful time and learned a lot from our first self-supported tour. I'm sure there will be more to come!
